[Help]Galaxy S3 wifi problem !!! - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi !
I don't know why but my S3's wifi gets wierd problem. Yesterday I flash back from CM13 to CM12.1 with Boeffla kernel and then I flash ArchiDroid V3.15. When I connect to wifi it says "saved" and "connecting" all the times (still get the high signal). After trying many time it connects successfullly and I download a soft and troubleshoot it. It says:
- Link speed: 5Mbps
- 802.11b
- CCK
I can make sure my router provide 802.11n (2.4 and 5GHz). I tried to connect to other SSIDs and get same problem. I tried to stand next to AP and , whoa, it connects fast and downloads at full speed. But when I stand 5 meters away problem occurs again (still get high signal). I think maybe the antenna is the problem so i check the pin and use isopropyl to clean it and the wifi module but still get the problem. I don't know whether software or hardware problem. Please help ! (That is the gift my mother gave me in 2012 and i love it so much. And sorry for my bad english, i'm vietnamese).

Have you tried a static network setup?.
Have you rebooted your router and phone?.
Are you connecting to a gateway router?
When standing "5 metres" away is there any obstacles between your device and the router?.
It is possible to have full signal yet be on the very edge of the coverage area. The wifi signal reception will be stronger than the transmission as the router has more power available to it than the phone so the phone will see the router but the router can't pickup the weak signal of the device..
Another possibility is a broken aerial or faulty wifi module.

I've tried all even turn off and remove battery for 2 hours. When I standing 5 metres away there are no obstacles between me and the router (My router is TL-WR4300 with OpenWRT). My S6 and A7 can download at full speed when i'm standing very far so i think it's the phone problem.
I use logcat to see what's problem and it said "cannot lock location". I tested the bluetooth and it works well.

Have you tried the WPS Push Button?
I also flash install a modem Firmware Update via my TWRP.
I'm having trouble uploading but it is easy to find.
It's called "d2vzw_MF1_firmware_NE1_modem.zip".
Just a thought...

Wifi reception issue?

Does anyone experience wifi reception issue on Samsung galaxy s II? I am in my friend's house and the reception is very poor. Yet both my laptop & iphone 4 has no problem. Is there some setting that I can fine tune the phone?
Sent from my GT-I9100
I do get that after having the display off for a while with no network activity, it's usually solved by disabling and enabling the WiFi. I think a more permanent way of doing it is via the advanced WiFi settings and setting the WiFi to never shut down.
Just purely basing on the signal bars, on my S2 it only gives 1 bar compared to a laptop/iphone4/ipad/itouch where they get even max, but at as I increase the distance the other devices start to drop on signal bars while the S2 keeps the 1 bar, out of all the devices the S2 has the shortest range dropping off the connection while followed by the apple devices about a mere 1-2 feet more, the laptop has about a meter more of range.

Check your WiFi sleep policy under Advanced Settings.
Yes, the WiFi signal bars strength of GSII is low compared to other phones I've used, but don't know if that affects the speed or not.
Regards.
plus low bar wifi signal , my download speed with wifi os very slow !! what should i do ?

do u have slow download speed tooo ??
The issue is: All the antennas are on the back bottom side of the phone (where the embossment is). When you hold it in your hand you screen all the antennas and as consequence GSM, WiFi and Bluetooth reception and transmission become poorer. Just try to hold your phone by the top side and you will be surprised with all signals quality improvement. Good luck! That's an antenna's design fault, IMHO. You may check WiFi networks strength with WiFi Analyser app.
Try also to check TX power with WiFi TX Power utility (requires iwconfig to be installed). By default samsung uses 32dBm (max). For home use 4-11dBm is enough. Probably you have 4 dBm set up and it's not enough for your conditions.

I don't even know I can adjust the transmission power. I have installed Wifi TX power utility but like what you said, it requires iwconfig. How can I install iwconfig? I am using Litening Rom with Ninphetamine-2.0.5 kernel.
Thanks.
Hi there,
Here is the zip file. Install it as zip update through CWM or CWM recovery. If first attempt is failed, just try again.

[Q] Wifi Roaming

Is there any mod or fix or even any news at all on how to get wifi roaming working on the s3?
For anyone who doesn't know - if you have multiple routers/access points then when they overlap they do not transition correctly. You have to disconnect and reconnect to get onto the most appropriate router.
I have a router upstairs in the back of the house and downstairs at the front so I can get coverage in the garden etc... if I'm downstairs and move upstairs it'll hang onto the signal from downstairs even if low when the signal from the other router is much better. you have to disconnect and reconnect to get a better signal.
It's the only really annoying thing about this phone!
Edit spoke to samsung uk technical and they said they are aware and it should be fixed in the next firmware but tbh I think they were just bull****ing me.

I got the same problem. I got my S3 some weeks ago. All worked fine (or I did not realized the problem). But since the official Jelly Bean update I am also stuck in this problem at work. In our office there are several access points and as along as I stay connected to one of them all is fine. When I leave my desk and fetch a coffee at the meeting point, the S3 should switch to another AP.....So, staying at the meeting point with the coffee but no WiFi... After switching the WiFi off and on, it works again. Coming back to my desktop, I have to switch WiFi off and on again....really anoying bug....
Any solutions? Or maybe Custom ROMS?
Thanks

Getting VERY poor Wi-Fi signal and/or intermediate connection

Sigh...thinking my phone may be broken or something.
When I'm in my room I get full signal (Linksys EA4500 Wireless-N router) but if I step into the kitchen which is like 10 feet away (and it's open air/no doors between my room and kitchen) I will either completely lose signal or it will switch between cell signal and Wi-Fi.
There is NO way it's my router as many other devices in my home work perfectly fine and my router is bad ass. So what's going on with my DNA? Something doesn't seem right at all. Plus I've noticed even my cell signal will sometimes just shut down (an "X" next to the bars) for like 5 minutes at a time. I'm using it with Straight Talk through AT&T so I don't know if that's the issue but it's dropping signal in places that my last phone worked perfectly.
Just odd connectivity. Anyone else having issues with their Wi-Fi at all? Thanks!

[Q] Wifi connection problems

I'm able to connect to any wifi network but only if I'm three or four meters away from the router, if I'm in another room or whatever I can't. With my old smartphone I could acces to my wifi network from my bedroom and now I can't with the razr. Do you know if its a hardware problem with the wifi receptor or if its something that has to do with the software? Please help
Wifi could definitely work better on the razr. The signal was decent on FTS rom (ICS) and now on liquidsmooth 2.9 and 4.2.2 it's even worse...
^ This, it seems wifi has been getting worse as the updates come, its not as drastic as a few meters away from the router but i now lose signal in places that were pretty solid before. If you really have to be a few meters away i'd take that baby apart and check out whats going on in there :silly:
If the wifi signal is weak, maybe the antenna has moved.
Can you unmount the phone or did it already??
You need to check all the border metal conections.
The wifi antenna, is marked in the attached picture.
I hope you can fix it.

[Q] Very poor Wi-Fi signal

Does anyone else have any Wi-Fi signal issues?
I get great Wi-Fi signal when I am within a few feet of the router. It connects at 325 Mbps and is really fast and fluent (I use my phone mainly for RDPing to my PC). However, even just moving a few feet away drops the signal one bar, and moving 10 feet away I lose the signal 100%. My home router is the Linksys EA6500, an AC1750 router. The issue with losing the signal happens on both the 2.4 GHz band and the 5GHz. I thought it was just the router so I tried it using an old Samsung ATIV S I had lying around... I was still connected to the Wi-Fi signal halfway down my street.
I never used to get this problem, until I sent my phone in to Sony to get the display repaired. On the repair center ticket, they said they replaced the front display and the backplate as well as ran a software update. (from 4.3 to 4.4). I have tried a repair via Sony PC Companion as well as a full reset via the Settings on the phone. Neither of these options have worked and NO, I do not have any power saving applications running.
Please, please help. The phone (phablet) is almost unusable like this :crying:

it might be problem with Firmware
u cannot downgrade to 4.3 But u should search for another 4.4 (stock firmware from another regions)
u can read some guides like this;
