I'm late to the party with this conclusion, I'm guessing but Google fit sucks. Today checked it and moto body before I started my walk, at the end of a 10k step walk, I actually had less steps according to fit. I use it in conjunction with my fitness pal to count calories and track burned calories.
My question is, is there any good calorie counting and step tracking app out there?
Wish moto body tracked eaten calories.

Has there been a way to make the gear fit algorithm more accurate? I am find that is counts steps when I am turning the steering wheel, making dinner etc. My gear fit is up-to-date in software, but I am not sure about the firmware.
Has this been addressed before?
For what it is worth... the fit is not far off from other pedometers I have used. I just got rid of my fitbit force. Just get a base line count for your normal day and then improve on that.
I was surprised at the lack of apps for the device. I would have thought Samsung wouldn't have relied solely on the community but instead put out some apps itself. In a lot of way, this lack of support makes it seem like it doesn't care if the device exists or not.
As for the accuracy, thanks for the update. I like the watch but as for its functions I find it a little underwhelming. The website doesn't seem to do much in the way of comprehensive results and it almost seems (like above) they have abandoned it before it began.
Are they still producing updates?
Should I update the firmware?
I wore my fitbit and my gear fit at the same time and they were oretty close at the end of the day.. maybe 2%.. good enough fir me
Does anyone know if there is a feature eith in S-Health or on the fit to delete steps whilst driving? I know I can do this on fit bit and I use Drive bit to monitor my driving since my Fit bit one is so sensitive I can add 18K of steps on 600ks of truck driving?
I'm not sure what's going on with my device, my Samsung gear fit has registered almost 2,000 extra steps compared to my Fitbit Charge. This is my very first day actually trying to get 10k steps in, not even at 5k yet with my Fitbit Charge. Any suggestions?
Hello!
My wife wants to get a fitness band like this to track steps, maybe bike, etc. Since she has a Note 4 I thought this one could be nice but reviews are not all that great.
What is the status these day?
Thanks!
Ideally it should be used with a stand alone sports tracking app and heart rate monitor. Samsung S-health is frustrating. The built in HRM will only work continuously with S-health.
It needs to be treated as an extension to your device. It fits my purpose perfectly, remote control (music) , exercise tracker (endomondo), mail/sms/viber notifications and whether or not to take that call.
I think it's the best value device at the moment.

I have had mine since Nov 14,and am very happy with it.I use it with my note 3.I got to track steps but have come to rely on it for notifications like a quick check of message received and see who is calling without taking phone out of pocket.(easy to see with hands on steering wheel)Also very nice to control music player and seeing notifications without people knowing you are checking your phone.I would highly recommend the gear fit, especially at todays prices ,only cost me 10.50 to get liquid shield put on.
I just got a Stratos with latest international stock firmware 2.3.2.8. Unfortunately the floors counted is just 1-4 a day which should be at least 12-15. My floor height is exactly 10 feet or 3 meters as mentioned in the manual. My former Garmin Vivoactive 3 did count it correct. Is it a firmware issue of release 2.3.2.8 or is the barometer on my Stratos broken or is the watch in general not able to count the floors correctly? How is your experience?
The altitude during bicycle trips looks OK. But it looks more as derived from GPS instead of a smooth curve as I would expect from a barometer/altimeter.
I can confirm, counting climbed floors is very poor. Highest count was 6.
Normaly (with garmin devices) I get around 15-24 floors.
Thanks for the answer. However I want to make sure if it is a general problem or just some devices have a faulty barometer. Is there an app displaying the barometric pressure?
Same here, floors climbed not showing correctly. I read at reddit a plausible reason for it: It seems like the readings have some lag. That means, if you climb a floor and stay there for awhile it will be counted. Climbing up and down quickly won't be counted. That's what it seems the reason and what I experienced, too.
You can read the barometric pressure by opening the compass app and click on it once to get to the GPS data. There you will see the pressure on the right bottom corner. My barometric pressure freeze once. I had to factory reset to get it working again. But if your cycling readings seem OK and not stuck at a certain height you likely have a working barometer.
Edit: I'm on PACEficator with WOS 2.6.1.0.
Thanks you! I checked the compass widget and the barometer seems to work correctly, it shows the correct pressure for my area. Also when I walk up a floor the pressure changes by 0.3 hPa. This is correct as well. So it seems to be a calculation problem. I think the used floor height is more than 10 feet / 3 meters. In China buildings usually have higher ceilings because of the heat. I also have that my altitude diagrams look more like block diagrams. The altitude in GPX tracks is only updated quite rarely. Hence the altitude jumps up and down but overall is correct. Just not a smooth curve like it should be and is at Garmin.
Today we had falling barometric pressure because of bad weather coming. Floors counted were almost correct. This proves that the floor height is not as mentioned the 10 feet/ 3 meters but higher. Hopefully it will fixed soon.
I ordered the amazfit gtr from aliexpress but before it arrived I found the Huawei Gt 2 sold at a local store with local 2 year warranty and I decided to go for it.
Meanwhile the gtr arrived and it's waiting for me to go pick it up and I'm not sure which watch to keep. The Huawei works well and compared to the gtr it has an internal storage where I can store music (which I will never do because all my music is on Spotify) and I can talk on the phone with it cause it has a mic and a speaker (which works well when I'm inside). The biggest con is that it costs 150 Euro more then the gtr and I'm not sure it's worth it but I do have a valid warranty which I can actually use (the gtr has an aliexpress warranty which is probably unusable).
Honestly for the price difference I'd go with the gtr but I heard it has some issues with the GPS. Is that a major problem? Can it still track running without showing location?
If you want to use it for running and using the GPS, it's a no go. For the rest it's a perfect watch for reading time, notifications, step counting and heart rate.
I'd return the GTR if you are intending on using the watch for tracking any activities such as running walking or cycling. The GPS function of the GTR just isn't up to scratch.
That aside if you only want a smart watch for notifications, step counting, heart rate monitoring and basic watch then the GTR is worth keeping. Its a lovely looking watch, the battery life is amazing and the watch is very smooth and responsive to use
I was in a similar boat. But in my case I went for GTR mainly because it looks much better and I wanted a watch mainly for notifications and music controls. GT2 biggest con is that it has a ugly black border around outer edge of screen which was for me a deal breaker. I had the opportunity to try both in a store and GTR was a much better looking and for only £90 was a no brainer.

Can it track indoors running in the gym? How about walking outdoors? It doesn't work at all?
And overall guys, is the gtr a good watch? Are you satisfied with everything except GPS? Can you take showers with it?

Can't comment on running in the gym as I don't do this but for outdoor tracking of walking running or cycling the GPS tracking is not very accurate and it can take up to 15 minutes to get a GPS lock before you can start your activity.
You should also be able to shower with it but I don't so can't comment on how effective the water proofing is.
I wear it occasionally in showers, no problem until now.
I also swam in the pool(many times) with it back in August and no problems so far. Just be sure to wear it in the shower afterwards, to clean off the chlorine.
I am looking for a smartwatch to track my open water swimming activities, so I would love to have physical buttons to start and stop, but I don't trust built-in GPS tracking in water. I would use the smartwatch to control tracking on my smartphone (which will follow me in my buoy) with its own GPS.
Does anybody know if this would be possible to start and stop Zepp Life app tracking on the smartphone with a GTS/R 2/3/4? Maybe even with custom ROMs and/or APKs?
I guess I can use an Amazfit BIT 3 for this purpose, but I would really like a slightly higher end round device like the GTR (not necessarily by Amazfit).
Unfortunately higher end devices all have built-in GPS so I'm not sure if I can still resort to my smartphone's sensor.
you can't do that with ANY of Amazfit devices, check with Garmin and Wear OS based ones.
Thank you so much for confirming the info I couldn't find elsewhere, you persuaded me there's basically no smartwatch that would do what I was thinking about.
My only options would involve spending € 200 either on something great for swimming but with very limited smart features (Garmin Swim 2) or on something with great smart features (Galaxy Watch 4 Classic or Fossil Gen 6) but officially non suitable for salt water.
I guess I will buy a cheap smart band for notifications and keep using my smartphone for tracking, while waiting for better alternatives to show up one day.
