Status bar icon change (no root) - Xperia Z5 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm trying to find a way of changing the status bar icons namely battery and signal without rooting. Is this possible?
If not, what are the consequences of rooting, and can I reverse it for warranty reasons if I need to.
Cheers
Mark

You have a lot of searching and reading to do. There are way more than a few options. Just the simplest "no root status bar mods" Google search pulls up everything you want.

I have had a pretty good search, I can't seem to find any ways without rooting. What are these mods and how do I get them?

without root you can't. And even with root there's no mod / xposed module specificly made for our phone (which uses own framework files).
To root you must unlock your bootloader, which means Sony (manufacturer) warranty void but laws in your Country should still protect you.
Now you can backup your DRM key which can be restored if you want to go back to locked bootloader (restoring DRM device key will relock the bootloader. search in the z5 forums for more info)
Gravitybox xposed module lets you add modded battery icon and color some icons and there might be other xposed modules similar. If you want, you can follow these guides to modify the required files yourself (needs a bit of learning if it's a new thing for you)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/xda-university/xml-101-xml-modding-easy-t2929816
(there's a guide regarding battery icon on xperia phones, it might be useful also for Marshmallow).
As far as i know, since Kitkat, status bar icon editing has become quite complicated because icons are drawed by the system and no more rendered from .png image files.

Wrong. There are at LEAST three different xposed modules I've used off the top of my head. And there are oodles of no root options, all are from custom home launchers.

I suppose that a status bar overlay over original status bar is quite different from "changing status bar icons". Not even thinking about battery drain that such an overlay would require, it might be relevant.
You can't change status bar icons without root. It would be possible if Sony added this possibility in its Theming Engine.
But as far as i know, this isn't available.
Could you name the other Xposed modules that can theme status bar and work on stock xperia MM?
Does Xstana work for you?
Thanks

Super status bar for example, but it hasn't been updated since more than a year and does not have really high reviews

I've really been trying to force you to search for yourself to help yourselfs but you're both making it hard lol
Android theme engine, flat style indicators and xstana are three that I have paid for. Xstana being my favorite, flat style is limitless in style but doesn't show traffic. As far as non root idk for lollipop or marshmallow but kitkat there are mods that aren't overlays, you can even theme notification panels. Transparent status/notification bars were a big deal with a few of the themes I used to run.
Edit: I see you've said since KitKat status bars have changed. All the more reason to root.

Flat style indicators doesn't work, it needs root I think.
I don't know why you assumed I didn't already search and come up with nothing.

Hide battery icon in kitkat

Hello, as others have already pointed out, in android 4.4 there are no stat_sys_battery pngs in systemui.
I would like to completely hide the battery icon but without being able to find the stat_sys_battery pngs i can't find a solution to do it.
If anyone know the way to hide the icon i would really appreciate it.
Thanks

Don't think its very possible to completely in 4.2+ roms, as the battery functions consist of the framework-res.apk and systemui.apk.
Have you tried using an Xposed module, such as GravityBox?

Yes... But when disabling it via gravitybox it disappears at first, but after a few seconds it reappears. Moreover, if i also choose a different icon from gravitybox, then i end up with two battery icons. The rom's stock one and the gravity one

I've tried wanam kit but it doesn't work... I've also edited the statusbar.xml in systemui.apk but they've changed everything in 4.4 and i can't find a solution. I've managed to hide both signal and battery icons, but i cant hide only the battery icon :silly:

[Q] [MOD] [TOOL] [JellyBean 4.2.2]

hi everyone.
i was looking for a MOD or TOOL to move signal bar and wifi icon to the left side of status bar.

Don't believe there are any tools to do so due to the icons being there mess with the notifications so is not a highly sought after mod. It's technically possible to do it manually but is a huge pain to edit the Touchwiz framework to do something along those lines.

Ok. So if you want the iPhone look:
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=espier&c=apps
The launcher has it's own notification bar that makes it look like that.

What can you change visuall with xposed?

Can someone post pictures of what you can change with xposed? I 'm thinking about rooting just to get rid of the ugly colors in the notification center. So if you have done that, can you please post pictures and of whatever else you can change!:fingers-crossed:

Kind of a hard request you got there. There are literally hundreds of xposed modules so posting pics is
You can change the notification icons (i think), but don't know with which module. You can also add extra visual things like battery bar on the statusbar/navbar, you can add new functions to your stock (or custom) ROM. You should definitely try out the following modules :
GravityBox [KK]
Notification Mod
ScreenOffAnimation
StatusbarVolume
Unlock effect before Security code
XBlast Tools
Xposed G-Touchwiz
XuiMod
While I agree this is a vague request, here is what you can do with the Blurred System UI xposed hack. It has variables for blur and opaqueness as well.

Isn't it transparent by default? Well, within apps I dont think you can make it transparent, unless you use an xposed module or something in the lines of it.

http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.woalk.apps.xposed.translucentstyle or you can simply download gravitybox and navigate to the statusbar/navbar tweaks and then adjust transparency from there
^you can try that or try going on stackexchange and finding ways to edit the build.prop for transparent navbars.
I still dont get why you want it to be transparent though, like the buttons wouldn't be visible if you were on an app with a white background like google now.

Even though it is not visible, I know the position of the soft keys. Hence, I can still touch the correct button.
Also, the module you posted is only for KitKat.
I don't know how to do "stackchange"
Download gravitybox then

flashed: xposed-v90-sdk26-arm64-beta3.zip and XposedInstaller_3.1.5.apk.
It's working fine. Thus far I've tried Gravity Box (being careful) and "Flat Style Bar Indicators" to tweak the status bar icons. So far so good.
Be forewarned that installing XPosed will fail SafetyNet, which basically eliminates Magisk's ability to hide the systemless root... meaning Android/Google Pay and other root-sniffing programs will refuse to run.
do you know if TweakBox for Xposed it was ever updated for V30 and Oreo ?

Yeah, but you can get decent status bar icons with xposed as opposed to LG's nonsense. I don't want two battery icons on the status bard, and I don't want my HSPA to say "4G" (its NOT) while my actual LTE says "4G LTE" (and the miniscule LTE is sideways). I want clear designations for HSPA and LTE -- period. And only one battery icon with percentage inside. Gravity Box gives me that. I don't need all the OTHER options of Gravity Box, except the audio steps.
I don't really use Android Pay. Just as easy to take out my wallet as my phone...

@markbencze, see I'm not the only one! Any development on this mess yet with the LG status bar icons in your themes? I checked a while back when you finally got Oreo and didn't see anything. I apologize if I didn't look carefully enough.
Just got root! Has anyone tried SystemUI Tuner? Seems like it does a lot without needing xposed, just throwing it out there. That being said, I plan on trying xposed later today.

Alpha has a few status bar icon options. I didn't mess with the 4g or LTE icons but I did make custom signal icons to compliment the center or left clock options. I'm adding more as time goes by

I used to use SystemUI Tuner but there were less options to tinker around with so I took a plunge and installled the systemless xposed module (and gravity box) and it works fine both on the "Thoery of Everything" rom (debloated stock oreo rom, 8.0) and now the unofficial LOS 15 rom (8.1) on my H930.

I was talking about Gravity Box xposed module, which I had installed back when the LG V30 was on Nougat. I have not re-installed Gravity Box with Oreo.
Gravity Box is like a custom ROM packed into one module. It can give you features and options custom ROMs normally give (like audio controls, etc) but you have to be careful when using with stock firmware like LG or Samsung which already have customizations which can cause conflict.
Gravity Box is best for pure Android. However, if you only activate a very few features -- like status bar icons, you can still use it.
