This has be happening to me the last couple days. I've done no changes to the software, I did a screen replacement a few weeks ago. Sometimes Wifi will turn on after a while or the SIM card will read and connect to LTE. Trying to decide if the phone is on its last legs or not. I'm on BareCee ROM, have always only used engine95's modified ROMs. Tried flashing the latest modem and the latest partitions if any changes. Also tried deleting the /data/misc/wifi/ folder as suggested in another thread stating a similar SIM issue with no luck.
Can you fix that?

Hi, please tell me if you fixed that problem, I have exactly the same problem right now with my D851 T-Mobile, at first the phone says no sim card, but the sim works with other phones, and I use the phone with wi-fi but since yesterday the wi-fi won't turn on, I did the most common steps, did a restore wiping all my personal data and apps, and installing the original firmware. And nothing happens.

After a normal reboot of my phone, it suddenly doesn't read my sim card anymore. When I turn it on, I'm not asked to enter the pin code and the phone doesn't connect to the network.
If I go into settings and change the pin code, or turn it off, I'm asked to enter the original pin code, so in that way there's still a connection to the sim card.
When I've done any of the above, the sim card seems to been "activated", and the phone connects to the network, and everything is as it should be until the next reboot. Then I manually have to "activate" the sim card again.
The phone has worked without any problems for a long time with the current CyanogenMod 9 custom rom and my current provider, and I haven't changed anything that suddenly can cause this.
Some suggestions to what can be wrong?
Does the sim work with other phones ? If so, it probably isn't a problem with the sim. In that case, try a factory reset in the first instance.
If that fails to work, try a fresh/clean install of CM9. If that doesn't work, reflash a Gingerbread stock rom & see if the problem persists. If the problem persists with a GB rom, then it's likely to be a sim/hardware issue.
The other thing that comes to mind is have you flashed a recent CM9 nightly ? This might explain it working OK previously with CM9 & not working now. Obviously CM9 is beta, and something funky might be going on with a more recent build/nightly.
I've now finally managed to find another phone and another sim-card.
My own sim-card works fine in the other phone - and when I put the other sim-card in my own phone it doesn't ask of the pin-code and it doesn't connect to the network.
So I believe my phone needs a complete reset - when I've got the time to do it...
One strange thing is, that at one reset earlier this week my own phone asked for the pin-code - but only once...??
I think I've found the problem. Either it's caused by Avast Anti-Theft alone or it's a combination of Avast Anti-Theft and CyanogenMod 9.
I believe it's the last one, because everything worked fine during the first time I switched from stock ROM to CM9, but then suddenly the error with the pin-code occured, and I could be caused by an update in the CM9 version.
But when I restored factory settings on my phone and started again from zero, everything was okay, and I was promted to enter my pin-code. It was the same when I restored my apps and data with Titanium Backup, but then when I installed Avast Anti-Theft the error occured again.
Actually I restored my phone once again just to make sure, and it was the same - when I installed Avast Anti-Theft, I was no more asked to enter the pin-code and the phone did not connect to the network.
So now I know what's wrong and maybe also why - but I don't know how to solve it...!?
I have a weird situation. My Mobile Data quit working after installing the KitKat update. My DNA is S-off and rooted and has been flashed to Straight Talk and uses Verizon towers in CDMA mode. I did this because Verizon has the best coverage in my area. I also work a lot in Mexico and I recently got this DNA so I could get a TelCel SIM card and use the phone in GSM mode when I'm at work. I was running 4.2.2 prior to the update. Since I was unable to take the OTA update, I flashed the stock firmware and ROM from Santod040 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2560010). After the updates my phone says Mobile Data is Disconnected. It is still showing CDMA mode and I am able to make and receive phone calls normally, just no internet. Anyone have any idea what I need to do to get Mobile Data working?
Do you have "turn off mobile data after long periods of inactivity" enabled? I tried that and lost data, disabled and data came back.

I did have that enabled prior to the update and never had any problems losing data. Since the update I have tried it on and off with no difference. I have also tried turning mobile data and airplane mode on and off with no change.
Another thing that is different since the update is that now when I turn my phone on, I get a message that pops up saying that there is no SIM card detected and that a SIM is required for the phone to operate.

Try putting a layer of clear tape on the backside of the sim card to see if it helps. If it does call HTC , they will send a new sim card tray. Known problem with this device. Also flash the latest radio.

I flashed the latest firmware that included the radio when I flashed the ROM. As far as the SIM tray goes, I don't use a SIM card, I am operating the phone in CDMA mode. I didn't start getting the SIM card message until I flashed the KitKat ROM.

As I said before, my phone has been flashed to Straight Talk's CDMA network so I don't require a SIM. I hadn't been able to find a fix to the Mobile Data problem so I tried calling the OTA number to reprogram the phone to hopefully fix any settings that might be messed up. I had been able to make calls without any issues, except strangely it kept telling me that the phone required a SIM card to operate only when I tried the OTA number. I decided to spend $7 on a Straight Talk SIM card thinking that it would see the SIM card and allow me to call the OTA number. I popped in the SIM card and Mobile Data immediately started working. I never called the OTA number or did anything to activate the SIM. Weird!!!
I have Verizon and I've always had my SIM card. I have no issues calling or getting calls/texts. Just mobile data. It Also seems really slow. I'm used to at minimum 10mb down 5mb up. I'm lucky if I get 10% of that now. That is if I can connect. I had to reload this page 3 times to get it to work.
Ok my phone is beyond f*cked up. I've tried going back to viper 1.3.5 I've flashed recovery and hboot and radio every which way but I can't get my data to work. When it does work I compared it to my wife's dl speed. Mine is 1.6 mb down. 1.2mb up. Wife's gs4 24mb down 22mb up. Tried multiple times same each time. Even on WiFi. Mines 3mb down 1.5mb up. Wife's 26mb down 16mb up. I'm back on viper 3.5.0 sense 5.5 because it seems to actually work occasionally. I've also went completely stock and still having same issue. Any help appreciated.
No one knows how to fix this? I've wiped everything and did a clean flash like I always do to sense 5 stock via ruu. Flashed twrp 6 beta. Then fastboot flashed hboot 4.09 and radio 4.09 and then sjdeloaded nusensesix. Still have horrible/nonexistent data and horrible WiFi speeds. Is there no way to fix this? Do I have to smash my phone and pay $100 to get it replaced? I'd rather not. I'm willing to donate to developers if you can he'll me fix this. I don't do dirty flashes ever. Always clean. Idk how to md5 check but dl and flashing multiple times I doubt that's the issue. I've tried fixing permissions. I've gone completely stock and still have same issue. Only sense 5 stock since I can't find sense 4stock. ive tried viper 1.3.5 3.5.0 4.1.0 and nusensesix. Same all around. Any help appreciated.
Could be your radio partitions are courpted. Read up in this link to reset the partitions. Just make sure you back up your important data as this requires a factory reset, with stock recovery, which wipes the device.

You may have to read back a few pages to get an understanding. Anyway just follow santod40 instructions and you should be fine.

the above link is the link i used for files to flash the RUU, is it the right one? i would like to try relocking the device if there is nothing else i can do.

Bringing this back to the Q/A thread so as not to flood the other thread with questions. When you say you swapped SIM cards, did you swap just the card or both the card and tray. Try swapping both card and tray from your wife's phone to yours and see what happens. If it's the same results then most likely your phone is the culprit, if you get good data it's the SIM tray and you can order another one.
ok ive tried RUU again using the exe program and running as administrator. it keeps stopping at 6%(checking header..............) it wont go anymore. i already relocked the device, the thread is closed so i cant post in it...

Been having this problem for a bit. Just removed SIM, blew out with compressed air, cleaned SIM and reinstalled. If it happens again I will try the clear packing tape on the back of the SIM.
Hey guys!
I'm currently getting the "not registered on network error". I have tried any; if not all threads on this issue to no prevail! It started when i flashed my phone to a deodexed version of the stock firmware for my phone.
What i have tried;
Used my simcard in other phone (Works fine)
*#06# brings up the same IMEI string as the one underneath battery
Using another simcard in my phone doesn't work
Used Kies Emergency Recovery to flash my phone back to complete factory reset
The strange thing is, i then thought after my efforts, i've had a hardware failure. But when i scan for my local networks, i see them just fine. Which would presume the antenna is operational. *see attatchment - Screenshot_2015-01-09-02-30-32.png*
Try patched modem and kernel, restore efs backup.

Thanks for the reply.
I think it's on it's way out. The phone is touching 3-4 years old now. One of the first to receive the phone. It seems to be a power issue. I did the above solution yesterday evening which didn't work. However, the phone IS currently working perfectly above 45% battery. Have you ever come accross this issue before?
Is the battery swollen? Try another battery.
Well as the title says.
Just rebooted my s2 and now when I try to do anything it says "insert sim card to access network" imei is fine serials fine and even shows signal bars but soon as try to make a call to drop signal and network completely....
have restored efs folder and even dne a repair.
changed base bands
reflashed new rom
tried different sims(and networks)
and still nothing
Odd that it happened after weeks of being fine and then just did a reboot and then this all happened
any ideas folks as to next move?
please someone must have an idea or two. to offer!
Well looks like I have fixed the issue after many hours of frustration..
Still have no idea what happened to cause issue in first place..
What I did was refresh my original backup
flash original STOCK rom via odin and this seemed to have fixed it. Are there any friggin better loctaion for these files as took 8 hrs to down load the damn thing!?
now re rooted, flash custom rom, flashed custom kernel of choice and than restored back up
everything seems ok(though my imei is incorrect now as says 004999010xxxxxx ,but am concerned it will happen again. Had flashed a modem several days before and updated a few apps . but at time of the issue occuring was just clearing caches then a reboot..
So,
I bought this phone on the day it was launched, its been more than 3 months and had no issue with the device. I rooted the phone , experimented with Xposed and other apps but for the past few days i was experiencing this strange problem. Cellular network was not running on my phone, i changed the sim, swithed the devices on/off several times , did everything i could do in the os, changing the mode to 3G from LTE and vica versa, etc etc .. but still no luck. The cellular network sometimes comes and goes. Then i opted for last resort which was to factory reset the phone, after resetting it the cellular network worked but i don't know if this is a permanent solution. If you have anything to add please share.
Regards,
Saransh
Sorry nothing much to share but i suspect you install some apps or did something to your rom so the network screwed. My suggestion is you nandroid backup every week (at least) so you can revert back when something happened.
Tried factory reset
I have tried factory reset but still having this issue. Maybe it's a hardware issue. I don't get it , everything was working fine few days ago then all of a sudden this **** happened.

Maybe exposed screwed something. Get a microsd card with whatever rom you want in it. reboot to recover and try full format. insert the microsd after then flash a rom. see if it works
Rooted my phone with sudamod rom, Everything is working fine.
