I saw a post on here (CM9 discussion thread maybe ? Not 100% certain) bout 3-4 months ago saying someone was working on giving the SGS2 the ability to shoot pictures in RAW. Haven't seen anything further since, and I'm not sure it was in that CM9 thread.

That would be amazing. I was wondering if it was possible to get RAW images from the SGS2 camera. Can't afford a DSLR
That's the thing tho, is it even possible ? Yeah, it would be pretty good. Wonder if that would iron out the various 'artifacts' you sometimes see in images taken with the SGS2 ? (like the red/pink blotch, poor quality in low light, etc, etc). May not even be possible with the hardware no matter what's done with the firmware.

Yes, it is a lot less grainy.. You will see a big difference. Its a free app, try it, ur not gonna loose anything:laugh:
doesn't seem like you can zoom while recording a video something the Samsung camera does, and the Samsung camera does slow motion videos also.
No touch focus actually autofocus is kibda choppy....
Its mainly another real time photo app...

Hey guys,
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/themes/modcamera-aggressive-sharpening-noise-t3604458
Is it possible to make a mod like this for our device? Our low light performance is not good, so something like that would be nice and useful.
I think it's impossible, this mod is in Moto G5+ thread, and G5+ have different specs from us.. Maybe you can try PixiMod.
Yes, please

Why it's impossible? The mod merges 4 pixel into 1 and we also have a libmm file, for someone with knowledge it should be possible.

So it will be at 4mpx for us? Yeah, maybe if it makes Low Light Performance on our Kenzo better.
Maybe like this? https://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?depth=1&hl=en&prev=search&rurl=translate.google.co.id&sl=ru&sp=nmt4&u=http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php%3Fshowtopic%3D750102%26st%3D6700&usg=ALkJrhjg1HBiXvITRurbTubt5SXEYqwUWA#entry61399942

Yes, is someone using one of these mods and can share his experiences?
I'm not able to download these mods :|
I also think that these mods are not using something like pixel merging, only a few parameters. So they're most probably not as useful as the mod for moto g5 plus.

Just use snapcamera hdr for Zsl or other advanced noise reduction settings. But don't expect a miracle. Our camera sensor already do what it can.

Nope. Our sensor isn't that bad. Galaxy C5 has same sensor, it takes better pictures. Software optimisations matter A LOT.

Not for everyone
The scrubber gcam apk still feels faster in terms of the shutter speed. I'm probably sticking with that.

But does not work with wide-angle lens.
And actually after this update I can see that photos quality improved noticeably. Of course it's nowhere near to scruber, but still it's better than before.
It's a pity that 60fps video still sucks when it comes to focusing.

this is what i was most hoping to improve. right now the moto camera straight up does not keep up with my 18 month old.
I've done the update and am running version 7.2.8.7 but professional mode seems to be gone. Is it just me or are others not seeing professional mode?

In the upper right corner you can switch between the automatic mode and the manual mode
It bothers me that in manual mode the wide-angle icon with normal lens is by low of the icons of the parameters of manual mode, I hope they improve the position for another update

Please make it for mi A3

Yeah, that one works nicely. Thanks.
Greetings.
I would like to try some custom roms, especially because of the camera and battery life. Unfortunately I cannot find any comparison between stock & custom roms on these two issues.
Please, can anybody post some screenshots or experiences?

When I tried out aosp and resurrection remix I noticed a drop in camera quality, and loss of image stabilization. I tried different camera apps but none were as good as the stock one. The good thing is that the lineage beta now has the stock sony camera (thanks to modpunk).

Probably not. Sony disabled RAW image support which is needed for Google Camera HDR processing. I tried all GCam ports and all of them are crashing because of that.

AOSP
I made a post on r/sonyxperia about my experience on russel5's AOSP extended ROM. I can't post the links on xda yet but if you go on that subreddit and search AOSP xz1c you will find it. There is also a link to a photo album in a comment reply so you can see some sample shots.
In short the camera is far better thanks to the working gcam mod and the battery remains almost the same, perhaps slightly better on stock.

It is absolutely possible. Flash russel5's AOSP Extended ROM.
@rkf10
I struggle to get an unblurred shot in gcam on AEX. The rom is excellent, except for my photos using gcam.
I come from a dying stock z5c that just took unblurred photos on auto.
I bought this XZ1C new, backed up DRM, unlocked then flashed this ROM, without thinking to try camera first, doh.
Any suggestions on how to get best shots with gcam?

My experience with the XZ1 compact is that it's really slow to focus, the slowest of any Sony mobile I've ever owned. Forget the PR blurb about laser focus, you need to hold it still for at least three seconds before pressing the shutter. Also try pressing the screen to take the picture rather than the camera button, sometimes the action of pressing the button adds to the blur.
For best results put it in a tripod and use a bluetooth shutter release or put it on self timer, the difference in quality is noticeable.
I haven't tried the GCAM mod from Russle, but I think general consensus is that using manual settings on the stock camera outperforms any third party apps, so if pictures is your priority, then flash a stock rom and use janjan's modded kernel to fix the camera.

I found I get the best shots when I open the camera app and let it autofocus itself. For me it usually focuses well (only struggling sometimes in low light). However once I start tapping on the viewfinder, I find it almost locks itself in an unfocused state. Closing (not killing) and reopening the app usually refocuses the image straight away. It's not ideal but I get much better results than stock this way, especially in high dynamic range environments which I guess makes sense.
I went through the trouble of setting up AEX and have to agree that the GCam ports I tried, while fully working, do not produce good results. With default settings the shots are grainy and full of color noise. Focus hunts so slowly that the only shots I got in focus were mostly accidental. I went in and played with all the settings but nothing really helped. I'm comparing the results to my Galaxy S8 running a GCam port with phenomenal results using default settings. It's odd because the DNG files side-by-side look very similar so I have no idea why the computational secret sauce isn't working.
I considered using AEX as a daily driver just for the novelty of having an Xperia device with full RAW support but found it slow/unresponsive compared to LOS so I've switched back.
