Block OTA - T-Mobile LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I just got the update last night, but want to hang on to my root a bit longer as I think the benefits outweigh marshmallow right now. However, everywhere I look says to block apps that I don't see in titanium backup. Anyone have a list for the Tmo V10 to block?

I wrote instructions to disable the OTA update mechanism here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66304926&postcount=1002

No. OTA is integrated very deeply into the core of the system.

Is there a way to just delete the update? 6.0 downloaded for me hasnt installed yet so cant i delete the update file

Yes, got an email.
No clue what it does.
I wish it was the ICS upgrade testing but its too soon. It must be some new version of Android 2.3.5.

Can anyone verify that torpedo root method works after the update? Or restoring root from Superuser or VooDoo?
I didn't get an email, but the update was waiting for me when I checked manually.
I'll check if photon torpedo works once the update is complete.
EDIT: Scratch that, update fails every time.

Not sure it applies to you, but I am sure the update will fail everytime if you have bootstrap recovery installed. As the update uses a bootstrap method itself, if it can't launch it's recovery properly it will fail.
The catch to that is that since the last two updates were OTA's there is no SBF for us to revert back to stock with.
So, you can take the downloaded OTA out of the /cache partition (Will be a zip file with todays timestamp), rename it to update.zip, place it on your sd card and flash through recovery. That's a work around

Looks like Photo-torpedo method worked!
Photon-torpedo.sh threw an error like it did in the last update but #Root Check says it's all good. Super User, Busy box, Titanium Backup are all happy with root.
Also no problem to go R/W with Root Explorer so maybe this update is not locked like the last one!

Jelly Bean 4.2.1 OTA

So I just received a 1MB OTA which took my version up to 4.2.1. At the very least, it fixes the missing December issue in the People app. Given the size, I doubt there's too much more in there.
Any performance improvement? Can you run an AnTuTu 3 test?
Keep root? Any problem with unlocked bootloader (but stock cmw and rom, only bootloader unlocked)?

It's not visibly faster, although I didn't have any performance issues before either. Disabling Currents pretty much fixed it for me. I can't find antutu 3 on the Play Store, is it just called "antutu"?

I dunno, maybe I'll just unroot, relock and grab the OTA...then try to re-root and unlock again.
Any chance you can still catch the filename of the downloaded file?
I have not yet received the ota update. I'm currently using unrooted 4.2nexus10. Buy I'm currently in the Philippines...

You should get the update eventually automatically. Otherwise (once someone provides an update URL) you can just take the package, and adb sideload it from Recovery (boot device to recovery; do update from adb or whatever it's called; on the PC, do adb sideload UPDATE-NAME.zip)

Then please tell us the exact filename of that zip file. It should look like this:
Code:
123abc456def.signed-manta-JOP40D-from-JOP40C.123abc45.zip
The numbers in front and at the end are especially important.
You can maybe clear data from the Google Services Framework and then try polling for the update.
I just want to know if I am unlocked and rooted will I keep those? I am still on stock recovery and rom, but I did add AOSP browser to system/apps manually so that may need to be removed I believe.

No more OTA

So I rooted my GS5 last week and today when I had the phone check for a software update it replied: "The operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way." And then it tells me to use Kies.
The only thing I have done so far is root it. Still running stock ROM.
I downloaded Kies and it says my firmware is up to date, so I'm guessing that T-Mobile doesn't like my rooting the phone.
Comments welcome.
This your first time rooting? I advise you do some reading.

Clearly, the initial user of this thread indicated that he tried using Kies. OTA updates after root are an inherit no-workaround issue. However, new firmware updates should be possible to install, even when root is present. The question is .... how?
Kies goes a step further by reporting "'SM-G900T' does not support initializing."
So.. where do we go? Do we unroot? If so, how? Is there a push workaround or something?

Lollipop 5.0 update dissapeared?

Hello XDA,
I got a notification earlier for the 5.0 update. Clicked to install it, my phone restarted and nothing happened. I'm still on 4.4.2 kit-kat.
What gives? When I click search for update, it says my system is up to date.
Any ideas as to whats going on?
Thanks!

This, I believe, is why you can't see any contents in /cache/fota. I think you have to grant root access to ES FE to see those files.

[new update] i545vrugof1

There is now a method to update while keeping root. See here
source: http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...xy-s4-with-stagefright-patch-and-other-fixes/
this is still 5.0.1 (hence the LRX22C build number) but it fixes the Stagefright vuln as well as other stuff
or it's supposed to fix stagefright... lol. good ol sammy.
anyway, if you want root, don't take this update. be patient.

eh. that didnt really matter.
i have a feeling the conflict with kingroot on oc1 was samsung's auto-updating SELinux stuff. no user intervention, it just runs in the background. although those updates make the samsung keyboard not exploitable. lol.
you have options: root, or have a secure phone. you can't have both.

LRX22C means nothing here (it just signifies 5.0.1, which is what most people are already running). It's what's at the tail end of the build number that counts - OF1. Reread the thread title, the OP and the linked article.

So being the n00b that I am, just to clarify, there is no functioning root for the Verizon Galaxy S4 with the specs i have (shown in my updated signature) short of using Odin and reloading 4.0?

i'll try and sum it up
it was a security vulnerability discovered by jduck (Josh Drake) and, basically, someone can send you a malformed video through the MMS protocol and basically, malware would leak into your phone through that video message if it automatically downloaded.
the exploit specifically targets a system lib called "libstagefright.so" (clever name, eh?) and that library handles everything related to video playback. i think.
if you're not going to install of1, the best way to patch it right now would be to disable automatic downloading of mms messages through your messaging client. chompSMS has its own dealio with stagefright tho, and i've been using chomp for forever, so, yea.

well
if you took oc1 via ota, you could try to root using kingroot desktop, that seems to have mixed results.
if you have the nk4 bootloader, you can downgrade to nc5 and root that using towelroot (easiest method ever)
you can't downgrade to kitkat if you took oc1 via ota
Bren caught the update, but is still uploading it. Hopefully kingroot or something else will get root for others.

honestly, you could "fix" stagefright yourself by disabling automatic downloading of mms in your app
or if you use chomp, they already have their own fix in place
