hi everyone! after using remix os on my yoga 500 notebook for over a week, i'm having some issues i hope someone can help me solve.
1) how do i force an app to open in phone mode? some apps have fullscreen disabled from the beginning, some can be disabled, but for example hangouts just refuses to open as a window... i have toogled the "allow all apps to switch to phone mode" in experimental settings, but i still cannot run hangouts in a window (see screenshots)
2) can the os tell me my battery is runnin out somehow? all you see is a small icon, and today i forgot to plug in my cable and the notebook just powered down without ANY warning or notification before. it simply suddenly turned itself off, like when you pull a pc out of the socket
3) is there a way to set screen brightness without having to use the dedicated physical keyboard buttons? my lenovo yoga can be put in tablet mode and then the keyboard is disabled, so there is no way of changing screen brightness (except 3rd party apps but there are only really outdated ones and they just look awful), i also have no such option in settings.
4) is it possible to have 2 different chrome tabs next to each other? in cm13's multiwindow with "merge tabs with apps" enabled in chrome, you could do just that. but there is no such option in chrome here.. and before you suggest using 2 different browsers - it sucks, i have all my account data synced with chrome.
if you have a suggestion to any of my problems, please tell me
bump
Settings/Applications
For each application, click on it and turn off "Open in fullscreen mode".
Then when you open the app, you will have access to a pull-down at top of screen. Simply select the middle symbol on the upper right and it should go into phone display. You can resize the display to suit yourself. The system remembers your settings.

FWIW the. 205 release has brightness adjustment on the taskbar if you use alt/F1 to go into terminal mode and type vi

Not quite the case, brightness slider was there from first alpha - it's the build.prop edit that 'enables' it.
On systemless-root I added that prop by default (via ramdisk.img) as I figured it best to enable it.
Alt/F1 would work without system root; but needs a initrd.img to mount /system rw and need to use sed or similar instead of vi

Is there any way for me to remove this from the notification bar? It seems to me unnecessary
I use the stock rom if that makes any difference
Yeah I find that to be a little annoying as well...
I get around this by making sure I use the back button and exit out of the keyboard completely after using the messaging app, this takes the notification away until I re-use the keyboard for txting, etc.
That I know, I want to remove ir completely... That's what I need help with
I don't think it's possible to get rid of through a settings option as such, but if you really wanted to you could try your hand at decompiling and removing the notification at the coding level (smali & xml, etc)...
Or politely ask a dev to look into it
Ask a dev it is, cause I don't have the slightest notion of android coding... Now, can someone kindly point me in the direction of a dev?
You could edit the status bar image and make it transparent as a temp fix?

If you have root, you can more the stock keyboard from /system/app to /data/app , and move the keyboard you wish to use the other way (/data/app to /system/app).
This changed the default keyboard for me, enabling me to deselect the stock one, thus removing the notification (It doesn't come up if you only have one input method enabled.)
AOKP roms have the option to disable that entirely btw.

Solved!
Try this:
Browse to /data/system/inputmethod
Delete subtypes.xml
Reboot
Now, if you've another input method you want you'll have to open the xml doc and remove entries to the one which keeps popping up (for me it was Google voice input - but luckily I'm still able to use the voice search in Google Now despite deleting subtypes.xml )
Otherwise, this should work. I tried unticking all but one input methods in the settings menu but it never worked. This does.

Remove Select Input Notification HTC
I know this is a old thread put you can remove the notification even if you don't have root. I have HTC to go Settings - Apps- All - Go To Touch Input Click Disable - Then Go to Settings - Language and Keyboard Remove Checkmark Next to Google Voice Typing - Restart Phone No more Select Input Notification. This method should work for any device although the name of the stock keyboard in the first step may be different.
It has been brought to my attention this fix does not stick through reboot or wifi cycle. I will mess around with the editor some more however I fear without modifying the framework it may not be possible to completely be rid of it. Moderator can lock the thread please.
have discovered how to remove the constant notification that wifi is off. You must be rooted (thanks to the devs who made that happen) and have SQLite Editor installed.
It is available from the Google Play Store for 2.99. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.sqleditor&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5zcGVlZHNvZnR3YXJlLnNxbGVkaXRvciJd
Open SQLite, allow root access and navigate down to "Settings storage". Click it then click "settings.db" then "secure". The last line (351 on my device) is entitled wifi_watchdog_on and the value is listed as 1. Click on this then click the pen in the upper center corner to edit the value. Change it to a 0 (zero) and click save. Back out of the app then pull down your notification shade. Long press on the *&#%$* wifi nag until "app info" is shown. Click it then select force close. It will give you the standard warning but don't worry about it.
After these steps are taken the nag will be gone! Hope it helps someone who is irritated like I was.
Thank you for this! Worked perfectly

Thank you very much!!
This worked, but once I turned wifi back on it came back once I disconnected. Anyway to make it permanent?
Doesn't stick for me, the nag comes back and the setting goes back to 1 after a reboot...
is there a way to do this for the blocking mode nag as well?

Can this be done with the FREE SQLite Manager app?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS54dWVjcy5zcWxpdGVtYW5hZ2VyIl0.
If you forcefully uninstall the WiFi nag app, will this prevent it from relaunching everytime you reboot or turn WiFi on?
The app info of the wifi nag said it was Android System

Well... When you long press on the wifi nag on your shade, then choose app info... it's a part of android system that you're stopping... don't know if uninstalling it is possible.
Hmm...I wonder if it's a part of the TouchWiz framework. Hopefully someone can make a hack for it which removes the Ongoing Notification, and also puts the WiFi toggle back in the Notifications Control Panel where it belongs.
You can put the WiFi icon and whatever else you want (I add a flashlight also) to the taskbar with the app "notification toggle" from the playstore.
I have used this temporarily on a few different phones while I was waiting on Custom ROMs to make their appearance.
It works perfectly.

You might try this:
First, you need to identify the name of the input device used by the system:
• Start root terminal by typing (Alt/F1), You will get a prompt with a #
• Type getevent and press <ENTER>
• You will see a long list of devices scroll by
• Press the device you wish to deactivate (for example, I touched the touch pad) and note the event number (in my example it is 13)
• Type Ctrl/c to stop and you will get a prompt with a #
• Type getevent again and look at the list displayed; Look for the event number that matches your device (NOT THE DEVICE NUMBER!)
• You will see under it the device name in quotes (for example "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad")
• Use the input device again to check you've found the right event number (my touchpad, for example, was 13)
• Press Ctrl/c again to stop
• At the prompt #, press Alt/F7 to exit the terminal Next, you need to modify the excluded-input-devices.xml file:
? In your root browser (I use SE File Explorer), navigate to root/system/etc/excluded-inputdevices.xml
• Open it with the native SE Text Editor; the file should end with something like this: <devices>
<device name="Power Button" />
</devices>
• Add your device between the top and bottom "</devices> as in my example for the touch pad
• Your modified file should end like this (again with my example): <devices>
<device name="Power Button" />
<device name="SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"/>
</devices>
• Save the file and reboot.
• Test after boot.

Thanks for your tip...I had thought it otherwise....Another help I want from you regarding disabling input devices....
I just installed RemixOS (April release) on my touch supported 11" Dell 3147. I had read it somewhere (tried to search for it but couldn't find it) that removing Power Button string will enable Power Button wake and lock just like in our Android Phones but removing it did not work on RemixOS...Also doesn't the device go in sleep (deep sleep as well) mode when not in use? I thought the Power Button tweak would achieve that functionality in our laptop..
thank you..

Some time has passed... Did anyone come up with a solution reg. the original post, i.e. disabling tap to click? The latter makes using Remix OS on my Laptop a real pain. Which is a shame, because otherwise it works really great.
Moved over from Samsung S8 and I'm mightily impressed. Just a few tweaks I'd like... The screen density seemed better on my S8, I could make text smaller.
Is there a way to hide the Bluetooth and NFC icons without turning them actually off? Without root.
Thanks
I'm testing system UI tuner right now which lets you turn on and off system icons but I need the Mate 20 Pro USB drivers to test.
Edit: The only system icon it seems to allow you to disable is the wifi one. Everything else stays. Probably need someone with a bit more understanding to see why they won't disable.
Edit 2: Even the built in demo mode tuner doesn't work so I've no idea whats going on lol.

I found a way to get Dex to open apps it would otherwise block, due to them not being supported. This method also makes all apps resizable, useful for those apps with fixed portrait layout like Instagram (where the menu items only show when canvas is expanded).
Some apps, like games, won't render correct if you change the window size. You have to change to the size you want, and then restart the app. 8 Ball Pool for instance appears too oversized, but playing resized it's now playable.
Instructions:
Install Desktop Hub for Dex (optional)
Select the 'True window' option (if using Desktop Hub)
Go to Dex Settings > About Dex
Tap Dex logo multiple times to activate developer mode
Scroll to the bottom of Developer options (in settings) and enable 'Force activities to be re-sizable'
Edit: It seems you don't need the Desktop Hub app. Follow the instructions to enable Dex developer mode and you're done.
Now you can do things like open a custom launcher from Dex to access functionality like gestures, activities shortcuts. For instance, I use Muzei a live wallpaper in Dex and set a double tap gesture in Nova Launcher to change wallpaper. I can now also access my widgets.
Have RAM issues in Dex/LoD?
You can now open 3C Toolbox, and clean memory. (Note: make sure you exclude Dex and/or LoD from the auto-kill list, otherwise your session will end/restart. If using 3CToolbox - Settings > Active Tweaks > Auto-kill > Configuration.
Why not just use Device Care to clear RAM? 3C Toolbox let's you kill system apps using root.
How it works:
Dex is a multi-window environment, so apps have to support multi-window within their manifest. By enabling the developer option, we're telling Dex that all apps should be multi-window.

Sorry I didn't realize, you have to first be in Dex mode before the option appears.
I have found out though that the app isn't required. It just provides a guide on how to do it. You can enable the feature by enabling Dex developer mode.
I don't this works for every app. For example, Slashtop Streamer still gives the orange outline over the app and refuses to let me stretch it to full screen. Unless I'm doing something wrong. I would love some advice.

You can't resize the window because you're using a remote desktop app. It requires an add-on for Knox in order to control your device using KLMS and device admin permissions. So this has to do with how Splashtop Streamer is setup and configured. You either need to make a change in the main app, or the On-demand Support from another device. The app is controlling what screen size to set it to.
I can't test this on my tablet to help you, because I'm already giving another app device admin rights.

Actually, I was able to make the Splashtop app full sized by tapping the DeX on the bottom left hand corner and selecting Dex Labs and there is an option there to "Force apps to resize". This did the trick, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I'm not sure if they work in conjunction or if the Force apps to resize did it. I'm just glad it works.
