This may be more of an Android question, but on my V10 on the official MM update, I got a message asking whether to allow contact suggestions when composing an email in the Gmail app, but i had a screen filter or such, so i got sidetracked and wasn't able to allow contact suggestions. Now when i go to make an email, i have to type the entire email address(i know i can select it from my contacts list, but i want the contact suggestions back). I can't find where to re-enable that!
Side note: all the extra permission granting in Marshmallow seems like kind of a pain to me!
They are a pain..
Go to Settings>General>Apps
Find Gmail and clear the permissions
or turn on the the Contacts permission.

Hi All,
Before you say it, I know what I'm doing and understand how Google contacts work, I had a HTC HD2 (thanks Pongster and XDA!) and I am used to Android.
I know how Google contacts work, infact I submitted a bug fix to AweSync to fix up their syncing of Google Contacts with Lotus Notes.
Why does the Samsung Galaxy 1 (and 2!) show me _ALL CONTACTS_ when trying to SMS people? or when I try to save a newly dialled number into contacts, it shows all contacts?
I don't want to SMS an email address! I don't want to sift through 1,300 contacts yet this idiot phone is showing me them.

It's listing email Address's in the SMS TO: field - yet I've CLEARLY unticked "All contacts" and I've made it only show contacts with a phone number.
What is wrong with this thing?
EDIT: also, forgetting my ring tone every time I reboot isn't impressing me either.
Okay, I can't answer all your problems, and I do agree that the management of contacts on this phone is pretty poor, but there's obviously ways round certain issues.
One thing that will immediately help you is to use the contacts app to send SMS, rather than the SMS app. Select your contact (filtered as shown in your post) and you can swipe them left to SMS or right to call. That's a pretty handy feature.
However, if you're sending a message to more than 1 person you're back to square 1. I'd strongly recommend getting GO SMS Pro and GO Contacts (both free) from the Market. They're excellent replacements and I'm sure you'll be a LOT happier with them.

It does what you describe above. I don't know what you expect it to do though. You dial a number, click "Add to contacts" or "New contact" to either list all your contacts or create a new one.
is there any solution to this, i quite like the messaging app, but find it quite annoying when i have to search through hundreds of contacts, or else exit out to the contact application to text some1 who's actually in my contacts list ....
Its not a deal breaker for me, i prefer the stock than go sms or handcent, or any alternative i've tried, so if there is no fix i'll grin and bear it but if there is please help out
.... its not that i prefer the stock to any other, its just that no other provides anything that makes me want to move from stock, and since both will be running anyways it seems pointless to be wasting battery .... also i found double contacts problems with other apps aswell

It's just poor design by Samsung.

Why? I think it is a good idea, since I very often MMS to email addresses! It is very handy to automatically downsize an image to MMS size when you are sending it to a person who you know will be looking at the email on their phone (e.g. my friend in Japan doesn't have MMS at all, over there nearly everything is email).
Been wondering about this too, i know the contact app you can customize what to show, which is fine, but the sms app show everyone you have been in contact with on google. Only "fix" i've found so far is to use another SMS app that can filter the contact list.
The solution is very simple. Just open display options in contacts and select only display contacts with numbers. Also untick everything that you don't want it to display. I don't save any numbers in phone or sim card so I save it to gmail account.
Even if I select only gmail it shows lots unnecessary contacts. So I went to gmail on my laptop and opened the contacts (phone book or something like that. Its been over a year so I don't remember)
I created a new category (u can choose an existing one) and transferred every single contact that I needed under it.
And thats it. Everytime I format my phone I just go to contact display settings on my phone and only choose the category that I made. And it only shows the contacts that I need.
It works also if u want to save a contact. I chose to save contacts to my gmail account when it asks. And everytime u save it saves it to the category that u choose.
I have been using this over a year and work flawlessly. I remember beig sick of choosing amongst 1000s of contacts.
I tried to explain as I could. If there is a problem ask me I will try to help.
Edit:
I realized this doesn't answer ur question about sms. This doesn't fix that SMS list behaviour.
Hi all,
Does anyone know how to forward a message using the native gmail app on android to a group of contacts already established on gmail? I often need to forward an email to a group of employees but have found no way to do it other than logging on to gmail on the computer which isn't very efficient. I've searched quite extensively but have found no solution. It seems hard to believe - anyone know how to do it, or know of a third party app that works with gmail to do so? I'd really appreciate any response!
ABQslim
Well I don't know about a group. But you can add as many as you like. Just tested a mass Email to 35 people. Just open up the message. On the right hand side towards the top you'll see a star, an arrow facing left, and a triangle facing left. Press the triangle and a menu will pop up Reply, Reply All, and Foward. Then when box pops up for send to just add as many Contacts as you'd like.
Yes, that works, thanks, but then I'd have to memorize the names or emails of everyone in my group which isn't my strong point (especially for groups with lots of members)....
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
A backwards way of doing this, I figured out, is to copy the message text you want to forward to a group and then go into a program like Go Contacts, select the group you want, click email all, then paste the text into the email body. A bit cumbersome bit the only solution I can find. Anyone else have any other more straightforward solution? I can't believe the gmail app wont allow for this.

Has anyone tried Contact Lookup Pro for contact searching (particularly for groups) and then bulk emailing?

I use Group Contact Manager Pro application. It has option "Copy all email addresses to clipboard." which make possible to paste all group addresses into forwarded email. Maybe it is not perfect solution but at least it is a real forward displaying as such in gmail.
So my question is when I go into the Hangouts app theres a contact in the "Frequently Contacted" but I have no idea who it is. I just want to remove it from my list but cant figure out how. I already cleared the data but its still there.
This is driving me nuts as well. I miss good old Google talk. Google seems to be getting way too "iphoney" lately.
+1, it seems that the only way to remove from the list is by blocking the person and then refreshing (sign out, sign in ) other than that I cannot find a way to remove
absolutely terrible
they need to fix this asap

Open gmail on your computer, then click on the person you like to block, then once the chat window opens click on settings (right top corner), then select block person and save.
No, blocking is not acceptable. I want to remove the "frequently contacted" list all together on my hangouts app in my phone.
I'm in total agreement, I want to be rid of the "Frequently Contacted" in my gmail, or at least be able deselect or hide it. Anyone have an idea?
I want this feature REMOVED
I'm wondering if anyone knows of any apps/utils that notify you of new emails (without actually checking email directly on the phone). What I mean is, an app that I guess checks it in the background or whatever, then pops up letting you know you have mail "to check". When I had my "other phone" there was an app called Ultimate Notifier that did this - I didn't have to check my email constantly, and I'd only get notifications that I had email "to check" when I did.
I've found a few apps in the market, but none seem to either work at all, or even do what I'm wanting to do. I know it's not an issue to check email every hour or whatever, but sometimes I prefer to just be notified that I have an email, and if I decide to check it, I check it, if not I don't, at least I was notified anyhow.
Hopefully there's "an app" for that, lol. It's the only thing I miss coming from my "old phone" If it matters, I'm using AquaMail, and the few that I have found are for K9 mail (and haven't been updated in years).
Thanks.

I'm confused. All email I thought had this built in. I use Gmail, Yahoo (through built in email app) and Outlook through touchdown. Gmail and outlook are push so every time I get an email I can have it notify me. Yahoo checks every 1/2 hour and notifies me if I have a new email.
why would you need an external app unless you don't have nay kind of setting to auto update mail or push?

Because I don't have it set to update. I generally do, but wanted to have it the way I had it with my other device. It'd just notify that I *had* an email (it wouldn't pull it or anything), and I could choose to check it or not check it. I know it seems silly, but it's just the way I preferred it I suppose.

OK not sure if you do this to save battery life or whatever but if so it would not make sense since the other app would be reaching out (push) to see if there was any email. So it would be a wash one vs the other.

A bit of battery saving. I'm not sure how the app I was using with my other device worked (It was called Ultimate Notifier), but their system checked my email server(s) to see if I had messages, if I did, it'd just send me a push notification - I wasn't "polling" any email servers on my end.

Umm...Ultimate Notifier was made at a time when Push email didn't exist outside of using MobileMe. It was made useless when Apple allowed Push mail with Gmail and POP3 boxes. What you were, in essence, doing is polling the Ultimate Notifier server in the same way that phones today poll Gmail (or other boxes). It used no less battery. In fact, if you know how Push notifications work it doesn't matter if you have 1 service (in your case Ultimate Notifier) or 10 services, you're not using any more battery. The only thing using the battery is downloading the emails, which probably accounts for about 10 minutes of battery a day.
In essence, there's no need for an app like that when every email app can do it natively. It uses the same amount of battery. If you liked how it looked and such...that can probably be done with a few other apps (different email apps or notification apps).

Hello,
Hope someone can help with a fix.
I googled this so many times but still didn't find a solution.
When I use the T9 to search for a contact in the dialer, the contact shows up but the number under the contact is duplicated .
However when I open the same contact in the contacts all there is only 1 number and no sign of any duplicates.
I have checked and I have no duplicate contacts at all in my contacts.
I have also used the filter to only show contacts from my Gmail account.
But still same issue persists.
Second, can anyone confirm whether I can get the notifications on my lockscreen to be kept hidden until I use face unlock and then their content becomes visible without exiting the lockscreen?
Lastly, does anyone have any idea if it's possible with any app or mod to have horizon lights keep on blinking rather than just blink once when notification is received?
Appreciate any input, thanks

1st. Same here with me.
I tested & founded that the duplicate number is WhatsApp contact & not going away even if we choose only to show contact from Gmail account.
2nd. I don't think it's possible right now
3rd. Users submitted feedbacks on OnePlus forums & they said they are working on it.
Thanks for the feedback.
Yeah I read somewhere it's got to do with WhatsApp.
They suggested to remove all spaces from phone numbers in contacts, I tried with one and it worked !
But I have way too many contacts to do it manually for each one.
Looking for an app or some fast way to do it in bulk.

Export it from Gmail and then you can work on the .xml file in a file editor. Find & Replace [space] with nada
Then import it back on.
