Good Morning Everybody! i own a SONY Xperia Z2 (D6503) running on Android Marshmallow with build number 23.5.A.0.570 and the bootloader is unlocked.
I tried everything to install TWRP and root it but nothing worked for me. I really would like to be able to install TWRP, root it and install custom rom on it. I need for help for that.
Thanks In Advance!
This worked great for me on lollipop. Try flashing this: https://kernel.andro.plus/shinano.html HOWEVER it doesn't show marshmallow as supported so you may go back to lollipop before flashing or go for it and if it bricks use flashtool and fix er up.
Degrade to android 4.4.2
2 root using flashtool
3 install recovery http://nut.xperia-files.com/path/XZDualRecovery/XZDualRecovery_2.8.26
4 flash pre rooted stock firmware
5 Reboot
Sent from my D6502 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Flash this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/development/kernel-advanced-stock-kernel-t3347413 . It's based on stock .570 kernel with twrp 3.0.2. Don't wory, if you don't like the kernel, you can still flash other kernel after you flash this. Twrp will remain the same unless the other kernel also come with it's own custom recovery.
You can try to root with KingRoot
Download apk and click the root button. Thats all for rooting.
Once you are rooted you can install twrp with the TWRP Manager App which you can get from the Google Play Store
this works 100%
twrp recovery
root
optional xposed

I can confirm that rooting Marshmallow in KingRoot app works. At least It worked for me. I was able to install TWRP Recovery after that. And then you have to Flash SuperSU package BUT it has to be System mode version, normal version will fail flashing every time on 6.0.1. I have locked bootloader.

How did you flash twrp?
My Z2 is Marshmallow 6.0.1 with Build No. 23.5.a.1.291 and still locked bootloader.
Kingroot doesn't work (nor do any of the popular 'one click' solutions) and when it fails it reveals that are already 3000 requests submitted for a compatible version.

I rooted my old xperia z2 a few weeks back (from Marshmallow to Nougat)(No need to go back to lollipop). Kingroot didn't work for me either. So here's what i did.
1. Download Flashtool. http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php
2. First flash a custom kernel. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bx1QvE4qnmn6dlFrdVA0d0lYZ0k/view
3. Unlock bootloader (official sony method). https://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/
(You may need to download some files and drivers like adb driver. Follow the instructions carefully)
4. Install TWRP app from google play or download and flash using Flashtool).
5. Download any custom rom and copy to sdcard.
6. Enter recovery mode (hold power button, release it when mobile vibrates. As soon as sony logo appears press volume up button about 10-15 times, TWRP recovery should show up).
7. Perform steps like wiping cache etc. and install the rom (Make sure the rom is compatible with xperia z2, coz we have to delete the stock rom before installing the custom rom, and if then the custom rom doesn't
work, then you will have to flash the stock rom and start all over again.)
That's it.
I succeeded with my D6503 yesterday and posted about it here.
I tried your method of launching into recovery but it doesn't work for me and when you think about it having to press the vol button some indeterminate number of times doesn't sound like much of an official procedure either.
After much trial and error I finally came up with this which works every time.
Press and hold the power button until you get the green light (be patient). You'll get a vibrate and the Sony logo on the screen but keep holding.
When you get the green light, and without letting go of power, immediately press and hold the down vol button until the light turns purple, then release both.
The phone will boot into TWRP.
Perfect!
Finally! I tried many methods, many times, and finally I come up on this and it worked PERFECT! Thanks so much!

Ok so im by no means new to rooting and roms and the like since ive rooted every phone ive had over the last 5 years but for the life of me i can not seems to figure out these sony devices. So i downloaded and flashed the new 5.1.1 ftf thru flashtool last night and everything is working fine. I have google and searched thru xda about ways to root and i thought the first step would be to install XZdual recovery but i downloaded nuts installer and ran it which seems to have worked but it still does nothing whether trying to manually enter recovery or doing it thru adb. Ok guys what am i doing wrong? Any help would be great!
Must downgrade to 4.4.2, the XZDR will root and install a recovery, then you install a pre rooted package or modified but stock-based 5.1.1 ROM, you won't loose root or recovery; but you wont be able to update via "official" methods like OTA or PC Companion because you have modified the phone's software.
Step # 1 is downgrade to 4.4.2 (314 build number works like a charm)
Damn what a pain but thank you for the reply at least thats a start since there are lots of guides for rooting 4.4.2 lol. Thanks
You don't have to downgrade to kitkat, You can downgrade to lollipop 5.0.2 (by flashing a new ftf via flashtool) and root via king root and install recovery via xzrecovery app (after getting root access) and then follow these steps:
1.Download a pre-rooted firmware 5.1.1 (flashable zip)
2.Boot into Recovery (TWRP Recommend)
3.Install - Choose ROM direction - flash the ROM zip and wipe cache\dalvik cache
(don't worry this won't wipe your data)
# I highly recommend you to do a factory reset after flashing because if you didn't the phone will be laggy and battery will drain extremely fast
*And If you have xposed installed don't forget to remove it because it may causes problems
If I Helped, Leave A Thanks ?

If your going to downgrade to an older version of Android, why not go to a version of Android that can be rooted by an app that that doesn't require internet access or all the permissions of kingroot?
Kingroot requires a lot of permissions on your phone to complete something fairly basic.

I have searched all over the forum to find a custom recovery for my phone but every recovery is to be 'flashed', I am having a stock recovery. I have my bootloader unlocked. But due to some reason I can't enter it. I don't want to downgrade my phone I am looking weather I can install recovery from computer or I can flash it from some application that provide flashing of zip and recovery files.
I rooted my phone from kingroot(not sure what's the name of that app) and then later shifted to supersu and I installed kingroot.
My phone specifications:
Rooted : yes.
Kernal version: perf-gd26777b-00851- ga8b7b55
Phone model: C6802
Flashed anything before: no
Android: 5.1.1
Let me know if any other details are required.
cheack here the last twrp

Hello,
I have a sony z2 D6503 android 6.0.1 (flash the 6.0.1 so i can force it to update) bootloader unlocked and previusly install xzdualrecovery (for the 6.0.1 force update),
now the after i year from when i install the 6.0.1 i didn't need to access recovery mode, until 1 week ago when i wanted to flash with resurrection remix 7.1.2 nougat, so i try first to access to twrp by hardware button, nothing happen (neither the led notification light turn pink so i can't access to recovery).
Then i try to flash again twrp or any different recovery from adb, and i try again either from adb and manually to access to recovery, and nothing again.
So i install kingroot, root the phone and use quick boot or other app so i can access to recovery from them, and nothing again.
So after that i factory reset the phone (to 6.0.1 because is the only available on my phone since the time that i flash it) and did again evey single step that i mention before.
I read every thread, post forum for everything, adb problem , bootloader, twrp, recovery and other but neither of them help.
In the end i was force to open a thread here so maybe you can help me.

Thanks for your help i can enter recovery mode ,now finally i get flash the RR
Anyone have any solution for the flash to work with magisk?
If i uninstall and install SU my flash will work?
Replace the kernel with the MK2000, flashing it with TWRP after Magisk, and the flash will be back.

There is an Oreo mk2000 kernel? I used it for nougat, I'll give it a look.

It's still a beta version, but on my phone is working perfectly.
You can find it here, in the same thread of the Nougat version: h850 mk2000 kernel
I installed the kernel and after magisk again but the flash light is not working again.
I get the same error.
I have to wipe everything again?
Never mind i just flashed mk again without flashing magisk again and its working.

I get the same problem.
After flashing TWRP I do this:
don't wipe Data, but "format" data (you have to type "yes" to delete encryption)
intall Magisk-v17.1.zip
install xposed-v90-sdk26-arm64-beta3 (optional)
install driver Adreno 530 rev21 non treble (optional)
install as last zip: KERNEL MK2000 v1.0 Beta5 (for OREO)
reboot system
now flashlight works fine.
So installing "no-verity-opt-encrypt" (DM-verify) is not necessary.
P.S.
I was on Fulmics 5.5 (stock 7.x) with unlocked bootloader, the correct twrp flashing for me was this:
with LGUP
flash kdz android 7.x (flag on refurbish) (I tried upgrading directly to 8.x, but the G5 was gone in bootloop)
flash kdz android 8.x (flag on upgrade)
(the bootloader still remain unlocked, so you have not flash unlock partition with unlock.bin file)
Phase 2
Boot, skip all settings, Enable Developer, enable Debug USB and accept request permissions etc...
open ADB and type
reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
don't reboot!
remove cable, remove battery, reinsert battery
power on in recovery mode (correctly, or you have to return at Phase 2)
double yes for reset factory (to enter in recovery)
you should enter in TWRP recovery
Is there any way to fix the "flashlight" bug with the stock kernel, still with the stock recovery
and rooting with Magisk by patching the boot image beforehand and flashing it in fastboot ?
I tried using the mk2000 kernel, but no img image is provided for this, only a zip,
but I don't want to root by using TWRP and flashing zips.
Why, I want systemless root, in case OTA updates will appear.
Thank you.
Even though I'd really suggest you to install TWRP permanently (if you accidentally enter in the stock recovery, the whole internal memory gets erased permanently), you may try to install Magisk from TWRP and then flash again the stock recovery.img using fastboot.
By the way, the Magisk zip is systemless: it doesn't flash executables on the system partition; it's just packed as a zip file for convenience to be easily read by TWRP.
On the other hand, if you want both original kernel and Magisk with a working flashlight, you can't. Flashlight with Magisk only works with MK2000 kernel at the moment.
It's new version mk2000 kernel v2.0 stable version from 04 January 2019, for Oreo try it. I want to unlock BL and make root, pls tell us it is flash work ? Sorry for my English.

I din't try the latest version, but I'm currently using mk2000 with unlocked bootloader and Magisk, and everything (both root and flash) is ok.
Edit: I now have the latest version of mk2000, and I can confirm everything is ok.
My flashlight and camera flashlight are not working too. I have to back read just in case I am not the only one with the same problem. I see there is a lo of suggestion and I tried it and it worked like a charm. I used H850_v1.0-mk2000 to make it work.

Hello,
I am a newbie into this.
I want to root the Pad to run some apps that require root access. The bootloader is already unlocked via the miflash unlock tool.
Next I tried to install TWRP 3.4.0.0 via using the guide from twrp.me
https://twrp.me/xiaomi/xiaomimipad4.html
I am able to load the image into recovery section and I am also able to boot into recovery straight after that in order to enter TWRP (using Vol up plus power button as the guide mentioned). But once the Android system is booted up the TWRP bootloader in the recovery section is gone/wiped whatever because the Mi boot menu appears again.
What do I miss out?
It is also recommend to perform a backup in TWRP before rooting (magisk) or flashing a custom rom. The backup fails with a couple of red line "unable to mount...".
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
You are using the stock MIUI right? MIUI will automatically revert recovery back to the stock one. You have to install a custom rom to retain TWRP.

Correct still using stock MIUI. Sadly, that means root and stock MIUI won't work at the same time.

Although I never use stock MIUI, I think you can root normally. You don't need TWRP to maintain root.
