Installing Marshmallow/CM13 ROM from a newbie - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there.
Have an Asus ZenPad S 8.0 for 6 months now and it has been stuck to Android 5.0 ever since. Asus UK have been dodging my tweets and emails inquiring about Lollipop or a Marshmallow update and i'm basically fed up now.
I happen to have a Mac and limited to no experience when it comes to ROM's and zero experience to rooting a device.
I'd like to ask for help on how to easily install Marshmallow or CM13 on my tablet so i can benefit from the newest OS Android has to offer and not waiting for Asus for forever.
Many thanks.

Which ROM for hdx7

Hi there!
i am new to the kindle tablets and on looking into this branch of xda
i am confused as i dont know which ROM i can use.
to make it short: i want a stock Android on my hdx7.
thanks und cheers

As far as i know there os only one Rom available here, called hdx nexus. Should be stock Android. I actually cant flash it for testing, because i have a wrong software version installed. If someone knows how to downgrade from 13.3.2.5 to 13.3.2.4 please post a link/tutorial or something like that.
I'm in the same situation as Arthuro88. My HDX 7 is running Fire OS 4.5.1 and I can't use the root technique I found (or towelroot). Has anyone found a way to root this version yet?
I got one of the last, apparently old, HDX's in the store. Luckily for me it had the older firmware on it and I knew better than to register it with Amazon right out of the box. I rooted the device, installed Safestrap, and then realized that Nexus 2.0.1 required a new rev of the firmware. So I upgraded *manually* to the mid-release firmware (the newest older version that was still rootable), hit it with Towel to root it, and flashed it to Nexus 2.0.1. All in all it is a VERY nice ROM. It works extremely well, and has only crashed on me once. My problem with it is that it doesn't support the 4G/LTE radio in my version of the HDX. To be clear: the WiFi works fine, but not the cellular carrier signal I'm getting charged for monthly.
So again- go with Nexus 2.0.1.
As for me, my original plan was to get Kali Linux running on my HDX. I'm shelving that for now and trying to port Firefox OS (Mozilla's Linux-based OS for phones and tablets) to the HDX. None of the "Big Brother" crap from Amazon (FireOS) or Google (Android). Plus it's completely open for development and all apps are basically Javascript_HTML5/CSS since it's web-oriented in its philosophy. I'd post a link but I'm still under my 10 post count. If anyone is interested in helping with the porting project I have a thread already started on this forum.

Update Android on Asus MemoPad 8 K011 tablet device

Hello,
I own an Asus MemoPad 8 K011 (intel) tablet. The device runs Android 4.4.2 and won't be updated further.
I'd like to root the device and update at least to Android 5, if feasible, at the very least to fix the Bluetooth issues plaguing v. 4.
I've never managed to find a working root utility for this device, neither have I found appropriate custom roms. Although relatively savvy in the PC world, I'm not that knowledgeable with Android - hence asking for your help.
Thank you!
Respectful bump as Asus have now published the kernel for this device.

NOPE, DON'T EXPECT ANDROID 8 OR HIGHER ROMS FOR THIS TABLET.
No one wants to develop software for old ****ing things that aren't iconic or popular enough nowadays, everyone's either focusing on modern phones from Google, Xiaomi, etc.... or phones that were literally hot **** back then (like the Samsung Galaxy S2, S3, S4, etc...)
Highest you can go is Lollipop (and maybe, Marshmallow?)

If your model is a 7D-50xx/S7-30xx variant, you can get custom ROMs for them.
For 7D-50xx (Mediapad X1) models, there's only a beta version of Lollipop from Huawei (and since it's a beta from Huawei, that means there must have been an official update already - go check your updates in the settings if your model is the 7D-50xx model.)
For S7-30xx (Mediapad T1, 7 inches) models, you can get CyanogenMod 10.1 running on it, but that is on 4.2.1. But since you don't give me the specifics of your model name, I don't think I'll be able to help you much.
hey may i ask how u managed to unlock the bootloader, i went through hell i have the 701W version but i can't find any proper solution.
