Whenever I receive a text, it FC's. Also, some of the messages arent even received. Not to mention, within the app It says messages are unread even though they have been. Ive updated everything. Device is not rooted, so I cant use Rom Manager to fix permissions. How can I resolve this?

Factory Reset is your best bet, then update your phone if you want and root that thing!
All is well. I deleted all of the text, and everything is fine now. Thanks.
I have a stock phone, 2.3.6 no root, no custom rom. All of a sudden, if I try to send an SMS message in anything but the stock Touchwiz SMS app, the send will fail. Have tried Handcent and GoSMS. Both fail. Resend in the Touchwiz app - no problem. They previously worked as designed. I don't 'think' I changed anything.
Can receive, read and everything in any of the apps...
Ideas? If not, I will probably reset the phone.
Thanks in advance.
Try and wipe data in the 3rd party app. It may not be communicating with your RILD properly
Thanks... Tried that... Removed Handcent and Go SMS. Deleted any named directories I found for those apps. Power cycled the phone... sent a message from the Touchwiz app -- fine... Reinstalled Go SMS - fail... Resend from TW app... goes right through...
last step would be to reflash modem... if not, wipe data.
Actually (my) last night. I did a few "factory resets" and SD format on my phone to no avail. Even installed GoSMS as the second program after the reset. Same problem. Touchwiz SMS app works fine. 3rd will not send.
I will probably try again today and be sure I am not doing something stupid to reintroduce the problem.
Solution (I Guess)
Not sure why sending SMS didn't fail altogether. Probably doesn't say much for the carriers in Thailand, but that is a continuing and different story.
Using a couple phones and multiple SIMs, I finally decided to look at the settings on another SIM, same carrier. The SMS Message Center property was not set on mine but had a number in the other SIM on another phone. Adding the number fixed the problem with GoSMS. Not sure why it works in the Touchwiz SMS app without the property, but oh well. Not even sure how I 'lost' it.
Thanks for the help anyway.

Hello, I have an odd issue, I have a friend who is on sprint, and every time i send them an SMS and they reply, it comes back as an email, thier [email protected], any ideas why?
im using Handcent, btw
I havent seen that since i used it to send mms on iphone 3g before it was oringally supported. o guess that either handcent or your phone is interperting the message in it's form used by that carries i would try and re install handcent and reboot your phone.
they show up wrong in the stock messaging app too.. i've rebooted my phone a few times but no help.. will try removing and reinstalling handcent
*edit*
No help.. even after removing and reinstalling
I have an unlocked Galaxy S2 running stock Gingerbread (2.3.4), unrooted. A problem has arisen whereby I can no longer send SMS's to one of my contacts (it has never been a problem before). I've tried deleting all previous message threads with that contact, but it didn't help. I then tried deleting the contact and sending an SMS to her number. The message was sent, but when I got a reply I was unable to reply to it. The reply also picked up the other person's name from somewhere, even though I'd deleted the contact from both the phone and my Gmail account.
I've tried both Handcent and the stock messaging app, and neither is able to send an SMS to this person. Other contacts are fine.
Can anyone suggest a fix?

it could be a problem in your network.. i had experienced that before, i tried flashing different firmwares and etc but it still didn't fix the problem.. so might as well call you network provider.
or you could also try to reset to factory settings/wipe data or better yet flash a new firmware
Hi
I too haven't had this problem but a similar one where I can't access contacts on sum card. I think if you have had your phone rooted.and installed ics or another rom it formats it slightly different i think because when I installed the aroma rom I had on when I saved the contacts I could see them but when I switched roms they disappeared. Not sure this answers all your question but might explain why her name popped up after you deleted it. Try installing a simcard viewer I tried this as my next solution and was able to see prior contacts there is one somewhere with no permissions I think.
Hope I helped
The same problem has occured on my Galaxy SII: After the SMS-thread from one contact got deleted I can't send SMS to her, I get status "failed" and under message details it says "Error code 1", I receicve messages from her but can't answer them, however an MMS with a picture got sent yesterday.
Has anyone with similar problems found an answer?
I eventually flashed new firmware: Stock ICS via Kies (4.0.4). Still can't send an SMS to the contact though. Has anyone else resolved this yet?

Have you tried a 3rd party text messaging app? Textra, Yaata, QKSMS, etc? Stock messaging apps usually suck anyway. Might be a nice upgrade. If you can't access your messages with another app, then something is seriously messed up if it's failing after a factory reset as well. If so, might want to see if there are any custom rom options or maybe a new update from the manufacturer (or an older one if you have the newest).
will definetly try the 3rd party text messaging apps because when i use apps like facebook & whatsap i can type and read messages .

If you prefer the stock messaging app, then try downloading the stock rom and the extract the apk from it. Copy the apk to your phone. Then go to system/app on your phone via root explorer. Overwrite the orignal apk with the copied apk and change it permissions to rw- r– r–.
Hit thanks if i helped you!
