I have a T-Mobile LG v10 (LG-H901) that is rooted and has twrp installed. I would like to update to marshmallow. I have already made a titanium backup of my apps, backed up my photos, and have copies on a computer and on my SD card. Can anyone give me a step by step process?
Unfortunately, since Marshmallow is not rooted yet, Titanium Backup won't work. So you will lose anything that requires root permissions.
If you want to upgrade anyway. Use LG Bridge and click on the Software Upgrade tab and then click on the Software Upgrade button.
You'll need LG Bridge, LG Mobile Driver software.
The fact that you have root and used Titanium Backup and backed up everything, tells me the instructions I gave should be good enough. If not, I'll check this thread tomorrow.

There's already a MM Rom built from the Official 20E Update.
There are a few that lost root by using the wrong file. So when you go to the link (that I'll post) follow the instructions..
1. Upgrade your TWRP to a 3.0.2 build http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3350825
(You can use FlashFire to flash it if you dont want to use ADB)
2. Download SuperSU http://m.supersuroot.com/download.html (keep a copy of this on your SDCard)
3. Download "Part 1" of the Rom
4. Download A "Part 2" of the Rom
DO NOT USE PART 2 100% STOCK YOU WILL LOSE ROOT!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3360240
Now follow the Steps in that link.
The Part 2 I would use is the one that has 005. You can also try the other 005-xxx builds.
You'll understand when you read the links OP.
Just dont use the 100% Stock Part2 or you'll be SOL.
If you a have any questions then post them here or in the link.
Good Luck.

Hi!
I want to get rid off some apks (see title) with titanium backup.
The problem is, that those apks are listed as service, so titanium backup only backups data and not the app itself. So there is no way to restore?
Is there a way to restore these pre- installed apps after deletion (maybe I change my mind ).
TIA,
Caveman
I'm sure Layar is avalible on the market, so is the CarHome. LG App advisor is crap so you can forget about it.
Copy the apk from /system/app. You can do this by mounting the system partition as read and write, then cp the apks to your sd card
So there is nothing other than the apk?
Why does titanium backup delete these apks without backing them up?
Thank you,
Caveman
By the way, I haven't tried this yet with a ROM that hasn't been deodexed. Backup both (.apk & .odex) just to be sure if you're in a stock rom.
Regarding titanium backup, I have no idea. I backed something up and uninstalled. When I tried to restore, it won't. The option is grayed out
EDIT: Just in case --> http://theandroidsite.com/2009/11/2...and-paid-android-applications-for-root-users/
Ok, thanks.
BTW: First attempt to restore stock rom (if I saw that titanium backup did not backup LG's "services" it was too late ) went bad (the phone stayed in "emergency mode")- that just increased my heart rate . The second attempt (without LG's modem drivers) went well
Thank you all!
Good luck with the stock ROM restoration Btw, I just want to suggest that you don't use KDZ flasher to restore to stock firmware. If you already have a custom recovery installed, just flash another ROM over the one you want to replace.

How to prepare the original LG kdz to be flashed with custom recovery (I just installed it)?

What do you mean? If you mean flashing the KDZ from the custom recovery, I don't think you can.
Here's a handy list of custom ROMs we have in the site (at least for the O1):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932158
It sounded like you could flash stock rom with custom recovery...
I noticed that there are a lot of custom roms available
So, thank you again,
Caveman
Sorry about that. How I talk/write can be confusing at times xD But yes, you can install the stock ROM with custom recovery, just not the .kdz file. From that KDZ file you can create a zip to flash using custom recovery.
I think the main reason why people revert to stock firmware (ROM + stock recovery) is because they have to take it to a service center and they still have their warranty. Or if they badly need the factory stuff xD

Yeah, that's it
First of all, love the forum. It's been a huge help in educating me about the rooting process and different uses for roms and such. I'm here pretty much seeking confirmation on what I'm about to do. Please bear with me.
I'm using LG P500 Optimus One, running Froyo 2.2.2, firmware v10g. Since the new Official Gingerbread update is coming in a few days/weeks, I don't plan on installing a rom. However, I wish to backup my phonebook and game data so the update won't remove it. Having said so, I will need Titanium Backup which needs rooting.
Here's how I plan on doing it:
1. Enable USB debugging mode.
2. Use an old but recently formatted SD card and copy-paste GingerBreak v1.2.apk on it.
3. Insert SD card and install Gingerbreak (but not use app2sd after installation)
4. Open Gingerbreak after installation has completed and press the "root" button. (Should I expect any problems here?)
5. After rooting process finishes, the phone should reboot itself. (Again, should I be worrying here?)
6. Check to see if SuperUser is installed to signal a successful rooting process. (Is there anything else that I need to install?)
7. Download Titanium Backup from the Android Market.
8. Batch backup phonebook and apps with game data
9. Transfer backup files to my laptop for safekeeping.
10. Uninstall Titanium Backup.
11. Open Gingerbreak and click "unroot" (I don't know what happens here. Does the phone reboot itself?)
12. Once Official 2.3.X update is available, update as I would with firmware. (This should work since I unrooted, right?)
13. Repeat process 1-7. Restore phonebook and apps with game data.
14. Repeat process 10-11.
Is all of this correct? Should I expect any problems with this process? Should I install anything else after rooting to make this work?
No...your procedure is correct ...and you can backup contacts by exporting them to SD...and apps by using some app which work without a root alternatively....not sure whether you can't install official 2.3.3 if you rooted or not..but mostly you can

well truly speaking i am also a tb fan...and i am 90% sure you can have official 2.3.3 even if you have root ....just get it confirmed and proceed
My goodness. Someone ever told you, you talk too much. Just do whatever you want to do with following instruction carefully. Then come back if you are facing any problem. Here people will surely help you.
Okay so last night I went ahead and downgraded the phone back 4.4.4 and waited for the update. I got on 5.1.1 stock file. I then went ahead and rooted the phone with KingRoot. But I have come to find that I like supersu better and was wondering if there is anyway that I can switch the two. Thanks all for any help.

Because you're on Kingroot, go ahead and install XZDualRecovery, and flash my prerooted zip file. It has SuperSU and some nice enhancements so you won't have to worry about a thing.
for avoiding losing of your data, you can backup your data using twrp and download tigerhoods twrp backup 5.1.1 in thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/.../twrpbackup5-1-1-23-4-b-0-319-rooted-t3331193 and add your data files in that backup and flash. Enjoy.... hit thanks

I believe that's redundant since you will just be overwriting your data once you use Tigerhoods' backup. Not to diss him by any chance, but his ROM is missing some important parts of the framework which makes some functions buggy.
It is a lot more safer and easier to flash my zip for a cleaner start.

If you want stabilization and SuperSU installed, just follow my guide to install the prerooted flashable zip I prepared that is the best solution to your dilemma. It's really simple without needing to do any unroot and such.
I have to back everything up and then try and flash that rom. Or I guess I could try and root the phone again and see if that works. I'll let you all know. Thanks.
I want to root my Xperia Z Ultra C6833 but from the instructions I've found on the web, it seems I have to downgrade it first to Kitkat by flashing the Kitkat firmware so essentially wiping the device, and then upgrading afterwards. However, I want to keep my apps and settings as is, I just want to root it so I can remove some of the pre-installed apps and also so I can install Xposed modules and a proper AdBloker that isn't reliant on a VPN workaround. It's currently running on the latest stock firmware update from Sony which is Lollipop 14.6.A.1.236.
If possible, I also want to install recovery on it so if I decide to flash a different ROM later, I can.

i have a C6806 but to simply root you do not have to downgrade..some may not prefer this but Kingroot works to give root functionality. From what I have seen for the C6806 to put the twrp 3.0 (2.8 does not work on 5.1.1) I had to downgrade i.e flash the KK stock rom then upgrade then unlock bootloader then flash Twrp 3.0. But at first I was able to root using kingroot (pc version) without doing any of the above
and I first used kingroot because I wanted to backup the TA (note restoring TA later on locks the bootloader back so if you want to have the relocking done, restoring TA is a good way to do it)
btw the various things you would like to have done is a lot bigger deal than the apps you have (why not just back them up?..would think restoring those apps and data is far less of a headache than the other functionalities you want introduced)
of course for backing up apps with data you may need root..so use kingroot

Thank you for the detailed reply! You hit the exact points I wanted to talk about. I forgot to mention my intention of backing up the TA partition too so thanks for that! Which tool did you use to backup your TA partition and if I decide to just just use Kingroot (aka just root it without anything else), can I remap the internal emulated "SD card" to my external one? That's one of my major motivations for rooting because I'm starting to run out of space due to some apps not being able to write to my external so they all dump their data onto the internal emulated one.

Since there isn't any Custom ROM for the SM-T380 I made this TWRP back from my tablet, running on stock Oreo took all the bloatware, Knox out to add some root mods, and latest updates with Magisk root. No other personal app added
This is a compressed TWRP backup, not a flashable ZIP!

how to install TWRP

DOWNLOAD/EXTRACT zip file from above Google Drive's link to your PC
Now REBOOT your tablet into TWRP recovery
connect tablet using USB cable to your PC make sure you have Samsung drivers installed, so you can see your tablet on your PC
ON your Tablet create a backup within TWRP's backup tab on your SD Card storage (choose storage SD card)
browse to that folder and open that SD card's TWRP backup folder, using your PC
go to last folder where you should see some files, delete them then
Copy EXTRACTED files from (Google Drives) into TWRP backups folder on your SD card TWRP/BACKUPS/xxxxxxxx/ from your PC to that SD card.
Where xxxxxxxx is your device serial number;
Once done copying the file
go to, restore's tab within your TWRP
RESTORE everything showing there (all those three partitions)
REBOOT to system
IF you can't see those copied files on your tablet then you have missed something. Restart back into TWRP
Thanks

I had the same issue, so when the proper backup files are in place on the ext sdcard and reinserted into the device, but the device won't read it -- for me, I had to reboot the device into recovery and THEN it would read it.
