Hi, just got my S3 a week ago and so far I've been really happy and impressed with it.
Have just noticed a problem though, my phone's s-beam does not work when I tried to send media files like images or videos from gallery to my friend's S3. On the other hand, my friend was able to send media files to me and had no problems receiving them. I can share webpages with him though.
Settings on both phones are the same, (e.g. with NFC on, Android Beam on, S-Beam on, Wifi Direct on) Any thoughts? Thanks so much. Really appreciate it.
*Just an update on 25/6/2012, I think I've just solved this problem by freezing ShareShotService in Titanium Backup. Will update again if it doesn't work, thanks everyone!
Yes! I have this issue too.. Are you rooted? Is your friend?

Hi! Both of our phones are stock and not rooted. What a relief to know that I'm not the only one having this problem. Haha. Was told by someone from another forum that apparently the files are too large to be sent. But I highly doubt that's the reason behind it though, because my friends and I tried sending a picture that we took using the phone's camera. He could send the exact picture that we took while my S3 couldn't. My friend could send me a minute long video (huge file size) that was recorded using his S3 camera as well. Hmm...
Can you send apps okay? I can always seem to send apps without issue. I'm upgrading to the newer firmware to see if that fixes it.

Have not tried sending applications actually. But it is rather apparent that the both of us are having the same problem. Yeah meanwhile let's see if there are more users having the same problem and if they have the solution for this!

Hi, yes I do. I've thought about it being a possible reason why S-Beam wouldn't work too. But I've tried doing the same after removing it and still to no avail.

I am having the same problem. For the first few days, I was able to use s beam and it was absolutely great. But few days later, I cant send files to my .gf who is using s 3, however she is able to send me files although both of us have the same setting. Any solution for this?

Hi, yeah so far I've came across with quite a number of people facing this exact problem as well. Up this thread for awareness!
I am able to send images and videos using S-Beam but can't send APKs or ZIP files from ES File Explorer over Wifi Direct.
You need to make sure you are in the gallery looking at the image you want to send before you 'tap' the devices.
I'd suggest turning android beam off as well, see if that fixes anything.

Many users are having this same problem.
Cannot transfer files(pictures, files, videos) between Galaxy S3 devices, using S-Beam.
Android Beam works just fine. Note that Android Beam is used to transfer data such as Contacts, Browser URLs, etc. that feature works just fine.
S-Beam is used to transfer other file types, videos, images, etc.
This is not whether you use a case or not, or turning on WIFI direct first, it just doesn't work.
When you put the two devices together that's NFC working, however the files are actually being transfered through WIFI Direct.
The problem is when you S-Beam and touch the screen to send the file, the receiver device hangs on "Connecting" and ends up with "Connection failed."
I've tested this on stock devices, bought in US, Germany and SouthAmerica, White and Blue ones.
does anybody have any other insight on this?
Update 7/10/2012: I've found out that it may be a available in some roms shipped to certain countries only. However I went to my local store and asked for a replacement of the device, I tried in the same store with the demo device and worked. I will report back when i test with the other devices.
Update 7/12/2012: After messing around with it, we've found that when s-beam is not working, then you put your phone in Airplane mode, then switch on NFC and S-Beam and it works. It is a very weird behavior sometimes, works some other not. It seems until now It could be a bug in the ICS 4.0.4 stock rom.
might be stupid but are you sure both phones have s beam turned on?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
yup nfc, s beam doesn't work here.
Oh hey guys, I've been having the same problem as well with my rooted phone (I didn't really think being rooted was the problem anyway) and the people at O2 were to incompetent to help anyway... but I read the post by LordKuroda about how freezing ShareShotService made S-Beam work again, but since I didn't have Titanium Backup I tried clearing the data for Nfc Service, Nfc Test, ShareShotService, and Wi-Fi Direct share, and it works now!
My problem was that I could send files fine but couldn't receive files.. And I've been able to receive a photo and a video fine. Funny thing though, I went to check my NFC settings, and Wi-Fi Direct was enabled, but S-Beam wasn't :silly:
Now I hope it wasn't just a fluke I could receive those files... :fingers-crossed:
Hope this helps!
So, my gallery app is so slow that it is almost unusable. If I open it, I get a bunch of blank boxes that take forever to populate. I think it has something to do with me checking 'sync picasa', 'sync facebook', etc. options when I setup the phone. Can somebody tell me how to unsync these galleries? I went to the Facebook account settings and unchecked sync pictures, but I still have a bunch of albums and it's crazy slow.
Any ideas?
the picasa sync option is in your google account section of the menu.

Yeah, I already ended up unchecking the sync pictures boxes for Facebook and for Picasa. But the albums are still there in gallery. Maybe I should clear data for gallery or something?

After waiting a while, and they have the picasa and facebook icons. So it's still pulling my galleries off the web, even though it is no longer synced. I also wiped the gallery app data, and they are still there. I think that is why the app is so freaking slow for me.
you could try uninstalling facebook and try running a 3rd party facebook app. I personally can't stand the stock facebook app for crap like this and the way its always running.
as far as picasa, if you use it, i'm not sure what else could be done. if you dont't use it, you can remove a lot of its functions via the pc. and that would clear that up.
I have a tip for you OP.
Turn off Wifi then try using your Gallery.
Not really a solution for the stock gallery but I've used Quickpic for as long as I can remember and it's always fast, reliable, and no sync issues to deal with. Currently I use that for normal picture management and use the stock gallery in the rare instance I need Picasa or Facebook photos synced.
Yeah I have found I have this issue if I am connected to wifi at my house.. I know the reason too. Looks like the phone is trying to connect to my networks dlna server (plex) which for whatever reason it is unable to do.. I just removed allshare and the problem is gone.. you can either rename the three or so files in your app dir (if you have root) or you can install a ROM as most of them give you an option to not install allshare.

Yep I was just under the assumption that the OP is on stock firmware.
Hello,
My wife's Galaxy S3 just got updated to Jelly Bean and an very annoying issue has started to occur: download finished notifications of all files that have ever been downloaded on the device (I assume, there's a ton of them) have appeared in the drop down bar. If I press clear all they disappear, but reappear after a short while.
Any idea what's wrong and how can it be fixed?
Thanks a lot in advance!

Hiya mate, I've updated my S3 only moments ago and the same problem occurred on my phone. So I did as what you did and searched Google but nothing came up so I tried a few differebt things, including delete a few pictures I didn't need and taking out my SD card and evening stopping a few applications through the app manager but none of them worked. I then proceeded to go on Facebook on my phone and I saw a pic I found funny so I downloaded and the bright idea came from that. Would deleting my download history work and thankfully it did. To do this, click on your app button and the download app should be on the first screen, click on it and delete everything that is in the two tabs. If this doesn't work then I'm sorry but I don't know what else to try. I would provide pics of where the download app is what to delete but I'm on my phone at the moment and navigating on this page is so hard due to it not being mobile friendly.
IT WORKS!

What is this crazy thing that YOU CAN'T TURN OFF?????
For the last few days I have been downloading hundreds of pictures from my Google Drive and meticulously sorting them in my gallery, only to find them all missing when I wake up in the morning. Is Smart Cleaning to blame?
I should mention the photos aren't just missing from the gallery, as I checked the file explorer before and after. They're gone from the phone.
Sounds like that might be the culprit.
What categories did you choose to let Smart Cleaning attack?
In the stuff I read, there's a way to turn it on and off as well as select various categories (like RAW photo files).
I haven't opened the smart cleaning app yet.
Wow! They watered that thing down from the V20. So far, I've not noticed any photos disappearing and I've been taking A LOT of them.

I never actively used it. I just wake up every morning and the pictures are gone. Only the ones downloaded from Google Drive, not ones I've taken with the camera or downloaded from the internet.
I can't uncheck anything or turn it off, look.

Photos I take aren't disappearing. Only ones I download from my Google Drive.
Please someone try downloading pics from Google Drive and see if it happens to them, I'd appreciate it.
It will take a full day to see tho

I yanked one down out of my Drive. We'll see what happens/where it goes. I suspect Smart Cleaning is an overnight thing.

I tried downloading the pictures off Drive on a computer and loading them onto my phone via USB, and it worked. Still have the pics this morning. That's a relief, but I'm still curious about the issue though.

Thanks for the reminder. I looked and the photo I downloaded from Drive is still there but I want to check again this afternoon to make sure it isn't a 24 hour thing. I should probably also check tomorrow too I suppose.

Ah, ok. It doesn't seem to be happening to me. I'll check again tomorrow morning but it sounds like that's not what's happening for me. One thing to check is your clean up settings in Google Photos and Drive. I accidentally blundered across that when I was seeing what options are available when long pressing app icons on my home screen. If some sort of clean up is active in those apps, it might delete on device photos if they are already in the cloud.
I use Google Photos as my default photo app. Whenever I tap something -
1. image is loaded
2. half second
3. boosted/corrected image is loaded
It's rather annoying, especially when I'm on Display > Image Quality Settings > Standard mode.
I also have Auto Creator Mode off.
Does this happen to anyone else?
Yes is happening to me, just tried. Didn't notice before because I use album app. It's really weird and annoying
Right, thanks for letting me know. It's apparently a bug in Google Photos itself. Not a phone issue.
I sent a mail to the google support, but well, it's really weird since after reinstalling the app, it does well for some times and then the bug appears out of nowhere.
Can confirm it's definitely the app. Revert back to the previous version, and the issue no longer exists.
Thanks guys, it's definitely a pain but very obvious

I just stopped the auto update and after de-activating reactivating the photo app, I didn't updated it. Bim, fixed. I don't even know what are the changes with all those updates without a proper patch note.
Update google photos has fix the bug
Sori still have that symptom
