Unfortunately, my cat chewed off my 40-pin usb charging cable and I'm going nuts atm... so has anyone found anywhere that might sell a cable like this? I looked pretty much all the online places and they're none existence, perhaps if i take it to local phone shops, will they be able to solder it up?

To be honest i do not think they sell those separately yet
My first guess is to call Asus directly, and tell them what happened and they might send you a new one or let you buy one over the phone if you feel comfortable doing that
Or even contact them on Facebook they actually monitor that very well
As for the cable splice, i am not sure of any phone shops that would do that, at least in my area, maybe a electronics repair shop would be better, probably charge you an arm and a leg though
If i had bought a dock with my transformer, i would send you my extra cable

No extra cable with the dock...unless I got shorted one.
So I spent over an hour talking on the phone with them this morning, apparently, they don't even have a part number for the cable, I even had to convince them that this doesn't sell in the local shops first. Now they're saying there'll be a "special" team which will contact me within 24 hours to solve the problem. Sigh...I knew asus support sucks and was hoping the product to last long without needing support but...

Asus were brilliant for us when my Mum had a problem with her Eee PC a couple of years back - screen failed, got a brand new one within a week. Couldn't argue at all!
It does seem vary by product, hopefully they'll contact me soon.

Don't tell them your cat chewed it. You're better off saying it's defective and the store won't take it back and demand a replacement. When they get yours back they'll charge you for the cat-chewed cable and everyones happy.
Telling them it was your fault will not get anything done quickly, because they don't have to give you a new one. Try it the other way around and at least you can get a working cable and they'll charge the money it would have cost to sell it to you.
Hope it all works out.

My bad, i thought the dock came with a cable because that would be the most obvious thing to include , guess i was wrong lol
I called again later and on the third time was able to get a RMA for it, sent it to the service center right afterwards so hopefully I can get a phone call sometimes next week about the payment. But from what they said, it seems like they don't have these things on stock for replacement, kinda sucks since I'll be out of country in a week and half.
I've never repaired a cable before, so I haven't a clue what I'm talking about, but if the wires inside of the cable are color coded, I bet with a pair of wire strippers and a little solder and electrical tape, you might be able to do the job yourself.

I peaked through the opening of the cable, the wires were extremely small where I could not see the inner metal wires within the cables and they seem like un-strippable (so thin that I'm afraid to break it with typical wire stripper), also there're metal wires on the outside wrapping the inner cables which are also damaged. Just gonna give up and let them send me a new one.
ASUS suggested website
BTW, one of the reps were telling me to go to this website and check if they have the cables in stock http://www.asusparts.eu/index.php
I think this will be the first place to have them if any charging/replacement kits would be available. However, currently there're nothing related to the TF.

Now bad is it? If the 40 pin end is intact I could fix it.

I wish you replied earlier, I sent it through RMA back to ASUS last friday :S
Unfortunately they are not available yet. But here is a link for the power cord.

I found out that they listed them over last weekend, also sent them an email asking when the cables will be available.
They replied:
transformer is now delayed to mid-June.
Sorry to have to give you the bad news...
But im not sure if they're talking about the tablet or cables, gonna ask them again and see what they reply.
Sorry you are having to cope with the problem. It's got to be very frustrating. I'm waiting for my TF to arrive from Amazon. It will be at least a month from order to delivery, but that's got to be less frustrating than having it in your hands, and not being able to use it.
I'm sure the USB connection for charging uses only 3 or 4 wires, so it might be relatively easy to temporarily wire it, but at best, it would be highly vulnerable to breakage. I think you made the right choice to RMA it back and get a new one.
I have a quick question for anyone that already has a charging cable. Approximately how long is it? I looked at the picture in the link, with it wrapped up, but it doesn't look very long. Anything less than 6' will be less than perfect for me, although I could use a USB extension cable if necessary.
My power adapter died on me today!! I can charge with usb from my PC and now im using an old iphoneac adapter to charge with. It is really slow though, gained 1% in about 10 minutes....

Find a universal USB charger for an iPad. It should charge the TF while powered off, or at least with the screen off. It will take longer to charge, of course, but it should do the job.
Hello All,
All of a sudden, the plug wasnt connecting into the port like it always did and after i looked online, I seen that it happened quite a few times to others. It simply will not charge now. its been dead for a week and iv been contemplating what to do so i figured is take it here before i make the final decision. If anyone could give me some advice I greatly appreciate it.
It seems there are a few options, call viewsonic and try to get them to semd me a new one since I got it in Feb but im rooted so thats out, plus I dont want the hassle. Take it apart and try to re-soder(sp) it back on to the mother board- although I hear it is somewhat easy, but I could never do it.
SO my last possible option from what iv read online, is to buy the Malata Zpad/Gtab dock. From how I understand it, I will set my gtab in the dock and it will charge, but I have a few questions/issues with that.
1) I heard it doesnt come with a power cord. Is this true? Do i need to use the cord that my gtab came with and will it work to power this dock?
2) If this dock will indeed charge my gtab, and fully fix my issue, where is the best place to buy it/fastest shipping? The only ones Ive found are around $50 with free shipping(which im good with), are shipping from China and take up to a month to finally receive.
Again I have not been able to charge my gtab for a week, and need to find an alternative way, due to a faulty Ac port, which iv found many others online have the same issues.
please community, any would be a huge help. thank you all for taking the time.
bump
Any replies would be very helpful, thanks
The charger that comes with your gTablet works with the dock. The dock doesn't come with a charging cable. Just switch the cable to the dock and you're good to go. It'll start charging as soon as you dock it.
About two weeks ago, electroniccrap.com had them in stock. Yes, it's around $50. I actually got mine through them (ordered via Amazon). It was sent priority mail, so it arrived in less than a week.
I had the same problem and I open the tablet and soldered the AC port again back to the board. And it has been working fine for the last couple of months.
Re-soldering the connector shouldn't be a problem for an experienced person with decent tools. Ask around among your friends, neighbors, acquaintances -- surely someone can do it.
You might stop in at some local computer stores that do in-store repairs -- look for a technician with gray (or very little) hair, he'll probably be excited about the prospect of actually using his old soldering iron again, just like 'back in the day'!
Right after I got my G Tab, it fell off the desk and broke the charge socket in the unit. I figured out how to open the unit up and found the metal strap had been pulled lose and also the solder connections [I think there were four (4) had been pulled lose. The metal strap wouldn't hold the socket down on the board so I bought a tube of the new Locktie GEL Super Glue. I carefully added some drops of that to hold it to the board while I did the solder job. It has worked fine now for over a year thanks to the super gel glue.
We have tile floors in our home and shortly after fixing the socket, I again dropped it from about waist high, the thing bounced back up and I caught it in mid air. Other than a little scratch where it hit the tile the tablet has worked just fine. TRY THAT WITH AN IPAD AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. These G Tabs are really rugged as the above demonstrates. It was also interesting to see the inside of the unit. Looks pretty simple. Hope this helps you repair yours.
Oh! another imprtant thing to remember. Before you start to pop the back off, on each corner there are little plug covers, when you pop those out there are Four (4) screws at each corner. Make that your first step to remove them first.
all a freaking sudden it stops. I have a case where the prime is on a stand like watching tv and I had it charging I'm sure it wasnt that much wait on the charging port but you know.
I read a lot of charging issue here from putting it in a freezer(i don't have one out here) and somethinga bout spreading the pins out, that one I didn't understand was it the part your plug into your prime or was it the usb part that goes into your computer port. I'm just needing needy details on exact how to fix the problem

buy another cord. at some point you will need it again. that said when my prime didnt charge, i unplugged it and tried again the next day and it worked
yeah i'm in afghanistan and they don't have any here. Moving next week so ordering is out the question......That other method for spacing the pins out if anyone know details on which part of the adapter you're spacing out let me know
Do you have a dock?
nevermindssssssss woooooo I got it to work. For anyone in da futa that haz this problem. Here's one fix.
the adapter that goes into the wall. look at the front that plugs in and it will say "push" push it off and spread the 2 pins outward just a small bit. then snap the adapter back on then plug into the wall. it works. it works!!!!!
Thank you for this! Just pushed the metal tabs out, and I'm charging again!
I've ordered the Z2 and it should be coming to my door any day now. When I realized that a magnetic charger might be a good idea to prevent wear of the microUSB port I started to look at the options available. Unfortunately the charging dock sold by Sony is too expensive in my opinion and I would like to find an off-brand alternative. I've looked through the posts on this forum and have come to understand that putting the charger in the wrong direction could be a big mistake. I'm still willing to buy just a cable but would prefer a dock to help prevent this.
My questions is does anyone have a suggestion for a dock(preferable) / cable?
I found this cable on amazon:
http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00...pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1947489602&pf_rd_i=915398
PS: A lot of docks on amazon have some bad reviews and I'm wary of buying them
I was in the same boat. The Sony dock looks nice like but it was fairly expensive.
I just ordered this last week:
http://www.amazon.ca/Magnector-Perf..._1_2?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1421124799&sr=1-2
I've got genuine Sony and this one as well. Sony charger is cut more precisely, phone is held exactly as it should with no wiggle etc. But this alone doesn't justify 10 times higher price. The cheapo one does the job in the same way, I see no difference in charging speed. For example this cable is OK as well. If you don't mind waiting for delivery (it takes about 4 weeks to Europe), I can only recommend these products and Aliexpress site.
Regarding the cables with LED indicator - I've got one and even if it's interesting I don't find it useful. LED light is always on and when it reaches ~95% battery threshold it starts to flicker until fully charged, then the color changes to solid again.
Is it hard to screw up the direction of the charger? I've heard it will completely discharge the battery (It shorts the terminals?)
Also, is there a thin case that has a slot for the magnetic charging / what cases do you use if any?
Thanks for the info guys!
Theoretically the plastic around the terminals should prevent the connector from actually connecting "the wrong way" but in practice it can still happen, especially if you insist in moving and pushing the cable.
If the cable is coming out from "the middle" of the connector is easier to put it wrong (otherwise is easy to remember the cable has to go from the middle of the phone to the bottom so is much harder to make the mistake). However because the phone is so symetric you might confuse the front with the back and put it in reverse even in the docking station.
And last but not least make sure you have good warranty - it is possible that the magnet will "suck out" the connector from the phone, mine is barely hanging and is supposed to be from the batch that fixed this issue.
I have the original Sony dock as well as a third party dock. I also have a magnetic adapter for micro USB. All are working fine. Here are the links:
Third party dock - this works fine with my Z2 even though the title says Z3.
Micro USB adapter
Thanks for the reply unni_kmr, unfortunately I'm in Canada and I can't order through amazon.com easily. (Also that isn't on amazon.ca)
Anyone have input on whether I should get this dock for $15?
http://www.amazon.ca/PatecĀ®-Magneti...=UTF8&qid=1421438530&sr=1-15&keywords=z2+case
Also, I'm looking for a case that's slim but doesn't impede the magnetic charging port. Any suggestions?
EDIT: Found this case, might try to cut a charging hole myself

I don't have a case. I am using the Mocolo tempered glass on front and back. I bought it from here. Its very thin glass. Even with it on the front and back, the phone slides into the docks easily.
slow charging speed
hi there, i recently updated my Z2 , to 4.4.4 and everything is absolutely as expected but magnetic charging speed has taken a serious blow. with 4.4.2 it was as fast as normal cable charging but now with 4.4.4 it has become extremely slow , almost takes 8 minutes to charge 1%, and more than 8-9 hrs to fully charge ..
anyone else facing a similar issue .....kindly suggest solutions.:crying:
thanks

What do you mean by putting the charger in the wrong direction could be bad. Do you mean the magnetic charger can only work in one specific direction?

Not only it can work in only one direction but even worse if you manage to make it connect in reverse it might break the phone or the battery. Yay Sony!

I use a "magnetron" cable for several moths now and never had any issues with it.
It is not possible to connect it in the wrong orientation.
I'm really happy with it and would absolutely buy it again.

Very expensive cable though...
And if you wiggle it a bit I'm sure you can make contact with it even in reverse. I assume it is using like any other cable the normal "mechanical protection" which consists in a tiny (fraction of a mm) extra plastic on the "lower" pin from magnetic connector.
Hi all,
sorry if this is the wrong place but..
What happened to QI 1.2. About a year about I started seeing the "out at the end of the year" posts so was expecting them about 6 months ago but so far I've not seen any for sale. Is there some problem with them that we have not heard about?
I have a note 3 in a nice waterproof case and can just about manage to charge it of a normal 1.1 pad. The extra distance a 1.2 would give will be really convenient for in car charging etc. Any ideas when can expect them to be come commonly available?
Keverso.
Also wonder about this. No info when scanning the web. The IKEA release of QI-products would been a good place to start shipping QI 1.2.

Yeha, I noticed the IKEA stuff but just wanted a couple of chargers - not new furniture. I was expecting them all over ebay by now.
Yeah, I like the idea with integrated furnitures but also only intrested in stand alone chargers. Aliexpress is over flooded with the older version but not a 1.2 device in sight.
