Ham 2 vs Xperia c5 ultra? - Huawei Ascend Mate 2

Hey there,
I still love my ham 2, rocking CM12, butI am starting to get the itch to play with something new. Does anyone have an opinion on the Sony Xperia C5 Ultra? I know spec wise there isn't a huge difference but maybe someone can chime in.
Thanks for any input!

I have seen it in the store. It's a great looking device. However I went with the Oppo R7 Plusf that has a very similar form factor of the HAM2 and similar battery life but the AMOLED screen is much nicer on the Oppo.

That Oppo is a beauty! Unfortunately I am on T-Mobile is the US and it appears no LTE, so that's a big deal breaker
Thanks for the input

That C5 has a much, much smaller battery.

I have both.
C5 ultra looks better than my ham2 in my opinion. My sony is white. But once u pick it up, it's pretty slippery.. And heavy. I feel that ham2 has a better choice of material. Performance wise, c5 is a little sluggish to my liking.. I am not sure why, but sony somehow always screw up with their software.. There's almost no development for c5 ultra also. If I have to pick for day to day use, i would most likely choose ham2.

Exactly what I was looking for, thanks! I don't think the C5 is gonna be for me. If the new ZTE ZMax Pro from T mobile is priced well, I think it will be a worthy successor to my aging HAM2.

Is it worth buying a Z Ultra?

I currently rock an LG G3 and while I love the screen and phone model, I can't stand the software at all, it is laggy and horrible, I've compared it to a Z Ultra via youtube video and I'm loving the look of the phone already!
Z Ultra's are currently retailing for £250 brand new and I'm ready to purchase, but a genuine question, what are the massive cons of owning the phone and is it still worth it at this price?

First it is smoothest device i tried...
Cons:
As you said it is MASSIVE
Staying on stock Xperia ROM there is poor (none for 4.4.4) custom kernel choice
Did I said MASSIVE :silly:
Rest you can tell from specs

I'm surprised the G3 is laggy, but it may be to do with the high res screen.
The Z ultra is definitely not laggy, and is the best phone i've owned. I came from an LG phone (Optimus 4X HD) and hated LG's skinning of Android. Sony's efforts are far more impressive and although I've tried the GPE Rom (Stock Android) I came back to Sony's firmware within a day.

I find it mental that you can even get this phone for £245!
It's definitely the best value for money phone out there at the moment that you can buy without an invite.
Been there, saw all phones, and got the ultra!

very, very worth for me, as of now cant see any competitor to our XZU, 6.4" screen, thin, metal & glass :good::good:

I bought my original Z Ultra for £549 at the beginning of last year and I loved the phone back then paired with the Smartwatch 2. I sold it back then but have just bought another brand new black one for £250, I use this as a tablet rather than a phone, I don't have the Smartwatch 2 this time.
I must admit that having been through a few phones since I sold it I'm a little disappointed with the KitKat firmware on my new Z Ultra, the display feels a little dim at 100% brightness but overall I think it's amazing value for money and great for watching Sky Go. I just love the sheer size of the phone but it does require a huge pocket to carry it around in.

There are atleast 2 different LCD panels that have been used. One has better contrast.
I just got the phone from amazon and I got it cheap from warehouse deals. First impressions, amaizing....
It was the cheapest most powerful device I found. I bought it for 250€ Not bad, considering what it offers
Its size isnt bothering me, I fear for the possibility of it breaking,
I've truly been debating about buying this, Z Ultra GPE, since it came out. Now that it can be purchased on the cheap it's making it harder not to. My main concern is; Android L? Will Google and Sony make the update available for the Z Ultra? I have a Nexus 5 (nothing wrong with it) but I've always wanted a phablet. Then again the next Nexus could be either 5.2-.9 inches so that could ease my phablet want... IDK, what do yous peoples thinks?

[Q] Should i buy the alpha today

Hello, i have read a lot good things about this device mainly i like it because of the size and build. Im looking for a device under 5 inches.
So based on the fact that samsung has discontinued this device is it still worth to buy it today?
You can get it around 300 euro so its a good price tag, the next alternative i can go is sony z3 compact.
thanks for your advice
best phone ever ... the best ............................................. 54000 antutu score more than htc one m9 or lg gflex 2
It's worth it imo, I have the device for like a month and it's performing incredibly good, love the cameras quality!

I fully recomend you this phone. It's lightning fast, overall experience is great - outperforms other flagships and in my opinion looks amazing. Only drawback could be the battery, but if it will be a problem for you there is extended battery availible. Also there is not much development for it, but roms that exist are really good. Im sure it won't dissapoint you
Another user of the phone here that would suggest you buy it.

I say go for it. Battery is not much of an issue for me. I'm a medium/moderate user. I have the att model. Great size, portable, camera is good and specs is way sufficient. My only complaint, as well as many others with the att variant, there is no root available yet or ever.

Xperia Ultra Z Successor............from Lenovo!!

Lenovo, just launched a new smartphone Lenovo Phab Plus, for around $400. As of now, it's only available in china, but will its way to online retailers soon.
Display - - 6.8-inch full-HD display - 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. Pixel density of 326ppi,
Processor - 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor
RAM - 2GB RAM.
Storage - 32GB

Dimensions- 96.6 x 186.6 x 7.6 mm, weighs 220 grams

My view
I owned the lenovo vibe 2 and the lack of development really frustrated me, as the lenovo software was horrendous. Not sure, if times are changed. I guess if enough people buy this, we'll have some custom rom to work with

EDIT:
Huawei, earlier this year had also launched Huawei P8max.
Similar specs to the lenovo phablet above, but P8max comes with 3gb ram.

615 is a horrible, overheating piece of crap, and Huawei's Kirin lacks any sort of dev love. Moreover, they are not advertised as flagships. Believe it or not, these devices will never get the popularity and dev attention like the ZU, unless they one day announce a partnership with CM.
It takes more than a big screen and sleek design to be called a “ZU successor”.

Agreed. But it's widespread availability that made the ZU development so active. I don't see why the Lenovo can't get traction (with a $400) price tag if its made available in all major continents.

Sorry, but in my eyes, the Mediapad X2 is a real successor to the ZU. The Mediapad X2 now has also got its own forum ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/mediapad-x2 ).

Stock ZU has crap battery though.
I have held the mediapad x2, and though i love the display, and overall feel of the phone, it's really just a tad too big. I know the different on paper is small (ZY 6.4' vs 7') but the 7' tablet against one's face looks slightly retarded
I am thinking of buying the C5 ultra as my daily driver, with ZU has backup. C5U is 13mp+13mp camera with front/back flash!
It's 6' vs 6.4' on the ZU but small price to pay for flash, better front facing camera, and dual sim.

Its just as the ZU. The X2 does look bigger, because of the 1cm but visually while making a call, there is little to no difference between the two. Both look like your holding a house brick near your head *lol*.
But who still uses a phone to call? *lol* ... A phone for me is emergency's / special stuff only. If somebody has something to tell me: WeChat, Mail, ...
In my opinion, if you go for ZU + C5, your probably going to use your C5 all the time and forget your ZU all the time. It becomes a hassle with two medium/big devices, especially if both are smartphones / drain batteries in a few days.
If you want a phone that does not look silly, just get a small Nokia dedicated phone that fits anywhere and last forever

You do realize that the X2 also has 13mpix + flash
The Xperia C5 Ultra has a price tag almost idential to the X2.
But for the rest its behind in almost all aspects. In my opinion your better off just selling your ZU, pocket the cash and pay a bit more for a X2
Now: Keep ZU + 400 Euro for C5. Your ZU will probably not be used a lot anymore, as it becomes a hassle over time to deal with two medium/big devices that both need charging every few days.
Or: Sell the ZU for maybe 200 Euro. Buy a X2 for 350 a 400 Euro ( only 150 a 200 euro in reality ). Have one device with twice / triple the battery power of the ZU.
I know that you can argue that two devices ZU + C5 = double battery power but that argument does not hold water. If your ZU has 4/3/2G/Cell active, it will still drain a lot of battery, even when not used. Unless you want to constantly link your ZU to your C for data connection. Like that does not seem bothersome all the time
Anyway, my opinion. Join the Church of brotherly X2 love. Welcome my brother.
To sum up my opinions about the devices above:
Phab Plus: 615 is slow and overheats, and $400 is asking too much, even with a relatively big battery. History shows only flagship Lenovo devices get a little dev attention.
MediaPad X2: a feat to cram a 7 inch screen into a body like that, but 10% wider than the already unwieldy ZU, and the Kirin SoC instantly kills devs.
C5U: Sleek and more pocketable / hand-friendly than ZU, but while MT6752 offers performance similar to a SD800 device, paying another $400+ for marginal performance difference and (slightly) weaker dev attention isn't a good idea in my eyes. Unless you'll sell your ZU for it ;D
...which is why I said that the true ZU successor doesn't exist yet. Make compromises in aspects as you see fit.
And one last advice from a flashaholic: DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING OTHER THAN SNAPDRAGONS (and maybe Exynos's).

The ZU is at the verge of falling off my hand, but nonetheless with 1cm less it can still be carried (not used) in hand if I stretch my palm. That 1cm is a difference that crossed the threshold.
Also, yes I do prefer the size of the Note series to the 6-and-above category, but you know what, I enjoyed the Galaxy Mega 6.3 just as much as the Note 3. Nearly as much screen size as the ZU, and small bezels at all sides gives it high screen-to-body ratio and an even smaller footprint. In my mind this is how the 6-inchers should be designed.
Your mileage *will* vary though, because we Asians are known to have smaller hands

Portable tablets with small bezels are always welcome, that's why I still kinda missed my Nexus 7 2013.
That said, Android tablets still need some bezels to avoid misidentifying touch events and to provide a better grip in landscape mode.
But with an oversized UI like that and full phone capabilities, I don't class the MediaPad X2 as a tablet.

Just held the C5 Ultra today. Man, that's a well-built phone. Slightly smaller than the ZU (6 invs. 6.4in), and though i am very protective of my screen real-estate, I am actually considering the C5U. I can't imagine selling the ZU simply because of the amount of dev love it has received. I can use it as my 'guinea-pig' for the latest/greatest.
I can live with the absence of a flash (i have a really tiny external flash that plugs in the headphone jack), and the garbage camera (have an RX100 m2)
For me, 6.4-6.5 is really the most i can manage, as a primary phone. I am hoping to test out the P8 Max soon. My friend has it, and he says it's simply an amazing phone

Yeah it's really amazing if you're coming from Z Ultra. It's an upgrade to every area of the Ultra and the updates are frequent compared to Sony.
The softwares are useful too. They have per app permission, optimisation like Greenify, etc all builtin so I don't really need to root the phone but I did anyway lol

I just came across this thread on The Lenovo Phab Plus. I passed on the Ultra Z because of the lack of a camera flash which i really need for my tasks.
I'll post some info here for your reference. It may be OT
I just bought the Lenovo Phab Plus to test it out 7" phabs. Cost me around 330 usd in the Philippines and seems like a good deal. Build is good and feels like my Iphone 6 plus. This Phone is tall compared to my Huawei Mediapad X1
Antutu Benchmark v5.7.1 result
32123 Phab Plus
25731 Mediapad X1
35953 Galaxy Tab S 8.4 LTE
Camera quality is piss poor and video exposure is dark and contrasty. But i think software updates will fix that.
Hybrid Dual Sim slot I don't like. I sacrifice a sim slot for a microsd card. Huawei P8 Max is also Hybrid.
Huawei Mediapad X2 Is not hybrid.
Hi guys,
Looking to get a secondary phone. Question, is the Z Ultra still worth a buy, considering the lolipop update? Any performance numbers or whatever issues? Its between this and the C5 Ultra. I want a big display and sadly, the Zultra is the only decent 6.4inch display. Which is better? the MTK6752 or Qualcomms older SoC, in terms of gaming and overall user experience. THanks!

If you ask me, I'd get C5U instead of ZU, mainly because ZU's touchscreen responsiveness has been hit or miss for me, especially under multi-touch scenarios. The bold appearance and slightly smaller footprint of C5U also counts. You do have to wait quite a bit for custom ROMs, if any, but MT6752 can fight on equal footing with SD800/801, the former being somewhat stronger in CPU but beaten in GPU.
Question is, isn't a second-hand ZU *much* cheaper than the still-fresh C5U? I bought my ZU second-hand for ~$120, while C5U still retails for $350+ here.

Stick to your Z Ultra until the new version arrive

Hi,
I smash my ZU screen 2 months ago, I was in a hurry and there is no ZU on the stock here so I buy a LG G3. That device is rock solid specs, roms, community is really good but can not feel comfortable with it. You can see lots of people out there using the same device. I give to my dad and go for an nexus 6. I'm using it for 3 weeks. Most of you know the device no need to tell about it but it is thick and bulky. Ne feel of premium device. Early updates are good but buggy. I use it but I don't love it. LG G Line, Sammy S and Note Line are all good devices, all you can fine well cookeded roms for them like CM variants, AOSP variants. But it is same for the Z Ultra too.
Last night I see the broken ZU on the desk, take it on my hands. It feels sooooo slick, premium and special. As a fellow ZU buddy of you, my advice is just stick to your beast-giant-premium ZU. Other devices are bad but only the waste of time for a ZU user. Only alternative for me is rumored Z5 Ultra for know. I beleive we'll is in in next 4 months may be sooner.
Just want to share

I have to agree with you. My ZU touch screen was not working. I bought a C5 ultra. I thought they share the similar spec. But it can't replicate the premium feel on the hand.

Slow camera launch and shutter speed. Other than that I have no issue, I am not nit-picky about the colour accuracy and low light performance. However, I do notice that photo can be blurry if my hand shakes a little bit. I think it is because the camera module does not have optical image stabilization.
Heheee I feel you buddy. Don't give up on this 6.4' beautiful monster. 4 months of ZU use and I wouldn't trade off for no 2015 device yet, 2 years since release and this [email protected] still feels rock solid and commands respect among equals!

I have my ZU for almost 2 years now (January 2014) and I've started looking for alternatives. Besides screen size (anything smaller than 6" is too small), the thickness (or thinness) is very important to me. In that area, there is no quality competition.
The Xperia C5 is too thick, the X5 Premium is close, but a bit thicker and the screen is under 6".
There are phones from other makers, like the Huawei P8 max, but they don't have the beautiful Xperia design and feel. Somehow they feel like an augmented phone while the ZU really looks like something that is designed to be like this from the beginning, balanced and well proportionate in its size.
So, just like you guys, still no solution. I'll keep the ZU for now, just bought a new USB flap for it. And if something breaks, I think I'll buy the same model on eBay.

Two years I've had my Z ultra. I love this thing, best $600 I ever spent on a phone. At the time I was considering a note 3 or the Z ultra in the Z ultra with 100 bucks cheaper. So glad I didn't go with the note 3.
By the way, where do you buy a new USB flap?

This handset isn't getting Marshmallow, so no.
Bought mine a month after it was originally released, still going strong.
Love ZU
Loving it still after many years. Kept it on 4.4.4 stock with root only. Won't change until Sony makes another like it. :fingers-crossed:

How does this phone compare to say...

Say the http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/phones/xperia-z5-compact/?
I already ordered this the Xaomi 3 Pro and i'm super excited about the battery life now that i'm doing way more mobile games. Curious about the screen, the feel of the phone and just the price wow.
But i'm currently using the Z5 compact and i'm also somewhat satisfied with that. Espialli the pictures!
Is there anyone who knows both devices?
I mean i understand ill be trading in some high specs, but can anyone tell me by how much?

Totally different devices. Redmi 3 (any version) is budget device while Z5 (also compact) is premium model. Not comparable

I stand behind my answer. Redmi 3 is not bad device, but it is budget device in all aspects. Not comparable with Z line from Sony

Man, as others are saying R3 isn't comparable to Z5 Compact. R3 is budget friendly offering, while Z5 compact is high-end.
If you still wanna compare, let's see.
SoC - R3 Pro has SD616, while Z5 C has SD810. You know, 800 series of SD is high-end, while 600 is mid-end. Both are octa-cores, but Z5 has four A53 & four A57, while R3 Pro has all A53s. Also, clockspeed is low in R3 Pro.
RAM - R3 Pro has 3GB, but Z5 has 2GB. R3 won. Doesn't matter unless you do hard multi-tasking.
GPU - Adreno 430 in Z5, Adreno 405 in R3. Slightly better in case of Z5.
Camera - Z5 has a lot better camera. Although specs may seem same, but quality is better in Z5.

Thank you for taking the time to respond! I realize that the Sony is better in almost every way, but what i'm honestly looking for is someone who has experienced both? The sony, owning it myself is not in my eyes a flagship, its above average. Sure it has a 820, but the most current fw is not the fastest it could be, this compared to my girlfriends Wileyswift Fox, a uk based phone maker, also a great value/cost device in my mind.
Camera, sure it takes great photos, but its sluggish in starting up, or taking rapid photos. And i'm not a big photo maker anyhow, occasional photo of my nieces or my dog or my girlfriend. So I don't really need THE GREATEST photos. You know?
So in that sense i'm very curious about this phone. If its comparable to the Fox one i'm going to be damn excited coupled with the 4100 battery. I am playing more games lately and i have been needing a powerbank. So thats would be a big up for me. How is the heat when it charges does anyone know?
Also curious about ROM support. From what i have read there appears to be some good support seeing as this is out longer then the 3S Pro. Only really read up on that device AFTER ordering the 3 Pro. Anyhow, couple of roms that I noticed were looking good.
About the GPU, how much is the Sony better? I maily do 2d games and have yet to find a 3d one that will make me comftorbale with touch input. I did also order a gamepad for phones, but that will be maily used for emulators and the like.
Thanks for all the input.
All say redmi is budget.
I'd be happy with the redmi over any other phone to be honest not even taking price into consideration.
As far as hardware for money it is OP
As far as android it self, it may not be perfect but it's damn near close.
Almost bought a galaxy edge, but now I don't have a reason too.
It looks like redmi 3s is waterproof too http://youtu.be/s1i9R8qoD9U
Sent from my ehmm... well... phone with xdw... cda... err... well I sent it, okay?

About all the stuff you've written and asked, I would like to answer it in simple way -
You won't notice any much performance difference between the two phones. Forget SoC, forget RAM. If you need better camera go for Xperia Z5 P, if you need just a camera which takes grainy and noisy pictures indoors, go for Redmi 3 Pro. You can see, my only concern is camera. But wait, MIUI seems terrible to some users, some love it. While Xperia's UI is admired my many users, as it's closer to stock. Well, you're on XDA, so you might install a custom ROM. I hope, you got the idea. BTW, if I was you I would not spend 320$~ on Z5, as it really is overpriced. You can easily get Oneplus 3 or G4 Plus by adding more amount, if you don't care about big screen.
I've recently owned the z5c, z3c, lg g3, moto x play, z3 and now the redmi 3 pro. I prefer the redmi 3 pro. It's great value, performs well, has good mic and sound, amazing battery life, and runs very smooth. Not running marshmallow but it suits my needs. Runs everything perfectly. Provided it supports the band you need i don't think others are worth the excessive price. Z5c was not performing well, had poor battery life, and my call audio echoes. The only gripe with the r3p is the camera isn't the best.
