This is the second time I've run into this on two separate LG V10 phones. The last time i got around it by upgrading to Marshmallow which was a mistake. I've tried clearing cache, force stop of settings app, numerous restores attemps to various roms, hard reset, everything i can think of. Still the problem persists and won't let me enter the "Fingerprints & Security" section of settings. This is on 5.1.1. I'm download the 4.2G system.img which i guess is my next choice.
Any other suggestions?
Did you ever factory reset?

I have a problem that I cannot seem to figure out.
I recently rooted my Samsung GS2 I7777: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36191155#post36191155 Whether or not that is relevant, I am not sure.
When I click "Settings>More..." the screen goes black and after a minute I receive the following error:
"Unfortunately, Settings has stopped."
This only happens clicking "more..." The rest of Settings is fine. I believe this part of Settings has to do with USB, correct?
I Googled around and found no solutions. I figured something had been corrupted recently and the easiest solution would be a factory reset since I have not done much with the phone. I unrooted and I made backups and went ahead.
After the reset was complete, the problem persisted. I did not reinstall my backups or sync with my Google account. I tried a factory reset + cache wipe via Android System Recovery E3, but the result was the same. I have tried resetting four times now, but still Settings does not work despite the seemingly fresh state of the phone. I did not install any roms, if that matters.
How can this be? And how can I completely revert back to stock or get my Settings working again?
Edit: Seems to be the same problem here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1862040
ideas?
Edit: went ahead and installed a rom. all is good.
I'll get a new text message & go to read it but then all the conversations have disappeared & I can't send or receive any new ones. Once I reboot the phone they all reappear. It happens 3 4 times a day. KIndly Help. I am using 4.1.2 XXEMA2 Official.

Sounds like your DB files are getting corrupted and are rebuilt on reboot. Might need a full wipe and reflash of the roms your on

Any fix for this?
I think it has something to do with Play Store.
Every time I restart my phone after they disappear, play store has new updates available.
Had the same problem. Hard reset solved the problem. Vol up + home button + power button. Select factory reset. And voila.

I had the same issue and described solution that worked for me here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72283217&postcount=21 (root and adb required).
Hi everybody, I have a problem and I don't know what to do, so I'm hoping I can get some help with this.
I bought a used cheap tablet off ebay a few months ago. It looked new and came with everything, but its always had software issues. It would be working fine then it would get infinite errors saying various android processes have stopped, it would automatically close apps when I tried to run them, and would prevent me from even changing the settings. This was a frequent problem which I solved by doing a factory reset. This was practically an everyday occurrence until I learned to clear the cache several times a day, which gave me probably around 5 to 7 days before I would have to reset it.
Well, the other day my tablet froze up and wasn't responding. I left it for a long time with no change. I turned it off and rebooted and was greeted by the infinite error problem. I turned it off and cleared the cache from the recovery menu. I tried to boot the tablet and it got stuck at the shiny android logo and won't go past that point. It won't boot into safe mode either.
I tried to do a factory reset like I've done countless times. As soon as I tell it to do the factory reset it says...
-- Wiping data...
Formatting /data...
and.. it does nothing. It never finishes or gets past this point. Not knowing what to do I've turned it off and tried again, I've tried rebooting it but it still won't go past the android logo. I've tried just letting it sit while supposedly "formatting" but that didn't do any good either. Has anyone else encountered this problem before?
I've been trying to figure out how to fix it as I'm broke and can't just go buy another tablet. I'm assuming my only option at this point is to flash a rom, but does it need to be rooted in order to do that? Can I even flash a rom when the tablet won't even do a factory reset and format the data?
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
i have LG G4 h810 5.1 official then after i update it to marshmallow using auto updates and when i clicked on security option in settings then i get error "Unfortunately com.android.settings stopped working" i try factory reset many times but nothing happens i think that the latest update which i applied to my phone has an error inside it.
can someone help me ?
same issue here man, i had been browsing all over internet trying a lot of solutions, none of them worked i tried to root the phone, install a new firmware, i cant find the right firmware for it. is there somebody who can help us?
I'm stuck with the same issue... How to fix it...
Have you guys tried other firmware such as Lineage os or cyanogenmod?
I'm stuck with same issue... Can't install apps from unveriffied source.
I also have been on this issue of setting app crashing when I try enter "Apps" in settings and click on any app, for weeks trying to fix it, including factory reset 10 times, clearing cash and starting new account on my phone, after I noticed it on my seldom used LG G4. But now it looks like I finally fixed it a minute ago (my com.android.settings stopped crashing, at least for now.) I used free App Manager by AndroidDeveloperLB from Google Play Store. It has option... something like uninstalling updates (or rolling a selected app back to the original installation). I uninstalled the update, and app "Settings" stopped crashing. Now I am waiting to see if system will install this update again, and if it causes crashing again... then I will think what to do... If crashes again, then I guess I will have to do a research and block updates for this app somehow)
Am stuck with same problem too. Cant install apps or set a lock code for my LG G4 H810 from ATT running on Marshmallow

I just fixed this issue on mine, only thing I did was restore my system through twrp. I made backups of prettymuch everything while the phone was experiencing bootloop because I guess I stopped google play services with airfrozen. Seems to have that effect anyway... So before factory resetting, decided to do a backup of system and data and prettymuch all the essential things, then reset and got the problem popping up in a fresh reset phone. Strange that my original more hacked and unlocked rom seemed not to have it... I couldn't enable debugging so I had to resort to twrp to figure out what to do and took a gamble and restored the system. Wow, so shocked when it showed up normal again.
So only take away is that the problem is isolated in the system part not data. If it is something to do with google play store and maybe I rolled things back to a previous version, I have no clue. Wish I could say for sure. If you don't have twrp, get it and you'll be back up in no time in some form I'm sure..
Have a stock T-Mobile Note 8 I purchased in November. I've held off updating for quite some time - I was hoping a "great" root would come along so I was waiting.
Recently my Google app seemed to break - it would load and show the Google logo/whatever at the top but no information below. I tried deleting the cache, and then the app data - still no go. So I decided to finally apply the update that the phone keeps nudging me about. I think this was to go to BQLA.
And after the update...phone boots, compiles, and gets to an initial screen with "System UI has stopped". And that's it. Since I had bluetooth enabled I'm actually still able to answer calls via the headset - but nothing else.
I've tried a cache wipe via recovery - nothing. I tried running an update via Smart Switch (not sure to what version) - and after fiddling with the phone to get it into a mode Smart Switch would recognize it applied whatever that update was. Still get "System UI has stopped" after boot.
The only thing I haven't tried is a factory wipe & reset - because I'm still vaguely hopeful I won't have to and I don't know that it will fix anything anyway.
Any suggestions? Do I try using ODIN and an image from SamMobile? Take it to a Samsung Experience store at Best Buy?
You have done all the right things. your only option is to do a factory reset. hopefully you had things backed up to samsung cloud.
Do you have any overlays or substratum themes installed? I had the same issue awhile ago and I couldn't figure out what to remove via adb. I ended up factory resetting. I think there was something in one of the theming threads.
Edit: all the threads say either try to enter emergency mode or perform a factory reset through the stock recovery.
[hangs head in shame] - yes, I do. Can't stand the default white (why is Samsung so stupid as to use light-colored backgrounds with their AMOLED screens?!)! I guessed that was the case...
I took it to a local service center - and they wiped it (as well as updating to the latest and grittiest) - and it worked. Then I logged into my Samsung account and restored app data - and it locked up again. So now I've wiped twice more while fiddling with it - definitely substratum related.
Thanks for trying!

Your supposed to uninstall all and any substratum apps, mods or tweaks prior to updating or flashing anything
