I'm trying to unlock my HTC One from the AT&T network. I'm currently waiting for them to get back to me with my unlock request. Shouldn't be a problem, I hope.
I'm S-On, and running Dirty Unicorns on my phone. From reading around, I've seen that the unlock code will only work if I'm "stock." However, I have no idea how "stock" I have to be. I've been reading around to find a stock ROM I can flash but everything I see is in the context of going 100% back to stock, flashing RUUs, etc. I currently don't have a USB cable to connect it to my computer so this might prove difficult.
Question: What do I NEED to do to my phone to ensure that I can network unlock it when I have the code from AT&T? (stock rom, stock bootloader, etc)
Bonus questions:
Can I unlock the phone without physically inserting a new SIM? (my friend isn't going to buy one until she gets to China and I don't want to buy one just for this purpose)
AT&T is acting sort of sketchy. If they fail to get me an unlock code in time, can I hack one together or are the services noted in this thread my best bet? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2242473

Currently my wife's phone is unlocked. I am a noob and I am just getting into the flash/root android community so I upgraded her stock phone to JI6 on Eclair. As a result, her unlocking codes are not easily accessible anymore but the phone is unlocked. I'm wondering if I need to risk going through the steps in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822008&page=11 (under Helroz) to find the unlock codes for the phone or I can just continue flash in Roms and kernels on her phone.
I guess the real question is: how important is it to have the unlocking codes if your phone is already unlocked and under what circumstances would the phone relock itself?
Thank you in advance for all replies.
Unlocked as in.... you can change out the sd card? Otherwise, if you have already flashed a differnet ROM, kernel, or modem or whatever, I don't think it would be different if you did it again.
But I would assume once you're unlocked...well you're unlocked, right?
Lol I am unlocked...I'm using the t mobile phone on the wind network I
n toronto so I can say with certainty that I'm unlocked. The reason why I'm asking is because we have two viberants (one that I have the unlock code and one that I don't ). being the noob that I am, I retired to manualy root my phone (the one I have the unlock code) using the update.zip file found in the sticky noob guideline.that one somehow re-locked my phone but I had the unlock codes so out was no problem. That's why I'm paranoid now about the phone relocking itself and I won't have the unlock codes.
Your right about it not asking for the unlock codes after rom and kernel updates.I'm hoping the situation where I re-locked the phone is a special, rare, and unique case. I'm going for some confirmation on this.
So I discovered a slight gap on certain edges of my One, which I got a week ago, and want to return it to AT&T for one that hopefully has no issues, but I've rooted, unlocked the bootloader, and flashed CM 10.1 on there. I searched through google and the forums here on XDA to find a method to relock the bootloader and go back to stock, but my search was fruitless. Apparently something called an RUU was needed? And according to the last post in this thread, that isn't available.
Is the RUU available now? Or is it currently impossible to relock the bootloader?
If so, would I be able to pull off just flashing the stock ROM back onto the phone and bringing it into AT&T? I feel like the only way they would realize something was different with the phone would be if they rebooted it, as I highly doubt most of the people in that store could even get into the bootloader screen. They had trouble syncing my google account.
Unless, of course, they send it back to the manufacturer and then THEY say that the warranty is voided because of the unlocked bootloader... but I don't know if they go through all that trouble in this situation?
Thanks for the help.

For a quick and easy way, just boot into fast boot and cmd "fastboot oem lock"
The only problem with that is that if they DO boot into the bootlaoder, it will say "RELOCKED" instead of "LOCKED"
The longer way, is to S-OFF (find it in the international forum) and then follow instructions there to put the "LOCKED" text back.

Get S-OFF, I was able to remove TAMPERED and change my UNLOCKED to LOCKED. You can also flash a modded HBoot that will take the red letters away and change the text from S-OFF to S-ON this will allow it to look like you never touched a thing
To get S-OFF I recommend http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314582
To mod your HBoot go through the post from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2316726 (to download the HBOOT and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1786498 to download the tool to create the modified HBOOT
But to let you know, I have returned 2 HTC Ones with unlocked bootloaders and AT&T did not say anything. Just flash the stock rom, make sure fastboot in enabled and leave it booted to the set up screen. Above is for if you want to be thorough and make sure you cover all your bases.
TL, DR:
HTC HBoot 1.55, Bootloader Unlocked, Rumrunner S-OFFed, SIM LOCKED Unlock sites such as 247unlock can't find an unlock code. Any solutions?
Long Version:
I purchased my T-mobile HTC One 32gb for use on a Canadian Wind Carrier in August, paid for an unlock code via 247unlock, worked great, used it trouble free for 4 months; everything was stock. Until November 1, when the phone received the OTA 4.3 update; worked great for one week than it bricked itself when the battery dropped under 10%, would not boot up not matter what I tried...literally tried everything.
Ended up sending it back to HTC, they repaired it free of charge, sent it back, and now it's locked again. The problem is that I can't seem to find an unlocking service that can unlock it. I am 100% that it is the same device as the Serial No. is the same but the IMEI seems to have changed, as it is different from my records. Is that unheard of?
Out of desperation; I scoured the internet, a couple websites make mention of using S-OFF to sim unlock the phone; so I unlocked the bootloader via htcdevs, and S-OFFed the phone via Rumrunner (1.55 Hboot, which only worked after I flashed it to Viper, stock wouldn't S-Off). So, where do I go now? What can I possibly do to unlock this phone?

OK youre talking about two different things here. the s-off business is for the bootloader. Has nothing to do with the SIM. A SIM unlocked normally has to be done by the carrier (they give you a code) but there are 3rd party companies online who can supposedly do it, for a fee.

Yeah, I am aware that SIM unlocking and S-OFF are completely different things; I was referring to online articles that state S-OFF could facilitate SIM unlocking. I have read through the whole thread about SIM unlocking the HTC One, seems as if little progress has been made.
UPDATE: I eventually took the phone to a Brick and Mortar unlocking store, and they were able to unlock it in 30 minutes...I'm puzzled to how they did this. Special hardware?
I will try and be a thourough as possible. I could really use soem help.
I bought an HTC One from AT&T in July, in October I dropped AT&T and moved to Walmart Family Mobile T-Mobile. I was told that I needed to unlock the phone so that I could use it on the new network. I did unlock the phone and it worked great! I started to play around with the phone since it was unlocked and rooted and ended up chaning from stock to Google Play Edition. I never made a back up of the Stock (Mistake 1) and so I have just used the Google Play Edition but yesterday, I decided that I wanted to go back to stock for awhile and I followed a bunch of videos on how to unroot and relock your HTC One and thought I was doing a great job.
I relocked it and the device shows it as "Relocked", I then tried to open the RUU for it, but since I use Ubuntu, I could not open it. I looked for a way to open a ".exe" in Linux and found that I could load 'Wine' and it should work.....it did not! I am not sure how I can add the stock RUU now, nor do I know how to unlock it again and start over and I am fearful that it is now a large paperweight! All it does is load into Bootloader! No matter what I do.
So to recap:
HTC One (Bought via AT&T)
Now used on the Walmart Family via T-Mobile
I downloaded the RUU for Cingular (based on what I have read and watched, that is the only file for At&T) "RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_Cingular_US_1.26.502.12_Radio_4A.14.3250.13_10.33.1150.01_release_318450_signed_2.exe"
My phone is relocked and it won't get out of the "bootloader" menu and I am pretty sure that once I relocked it, the old OS went away and since I have no other OP, I might have lost a great phone.
Oh and I am using Ubuntu on my laptop
Any help would rock!

Use RUU.zip

I just bought a new at&t HTC One (M8) and I'd like to have a fresh stock backup in case of return/warranty problems. I'd like to make this myself so I can ensure that I'll be able to put the exact software that came with my phone back if need be. Also I'd just like to know how to do this in general. What I've found via search has been for rooted phones or different brands. Is it possible to use ADB or any other tool to do this? I guess I'm confused because I see posts for flashing back to stock. How do devs get these stock roms? If someone could point me to a good guide/tutorial it would be much appreciated.
Not without a rooted device or an unsecure [email protected] backup...there is an ruu posted for the 1.58.502.1, thats as close to being a backup without altering the phone in anyway
As long as you are a current account holder, AT&T does not give a crap what software is on your phone, bootloader unlocked, even a custom ROM installed in regards to warranty service based on many reports on XDA.
If you are still wondering about returning to stock, as mentioned in the above, your version (AT&T) if fortunate enough to have a 1.58 RUU. The ROM Update Utility is a useful means of installing a full stock image (ROM, radio, recovery, etc.) via connection to a PC.
But it can still be determined the bootloader is unlocked, no matter what you do to the phone to return it to stock. Your IMEI is tracked by HTCDev.com when you unlock the bootloader. But again, as long as you go through AT&T for warranty service (highly recommended for this reason) they don't care if the phone is modded.
I believe the stock ROMs you mention are system dumps done after bootloader unlock.
