Hey all, been on this site for awhile now and did a lot of work with my HTC M8 which had a lot of options. Now.. i know this device is fairly new so there probably isnt much development yet, but i was wondering if anyone knows of a root method that actually works? The closest i have gotten is with iRoot which just makes my phone freeze at the boot screen. Thanks in advance!
btw my phone is an at&t model
I suddenly find myself in need of a new phone. I was looking at the same model, but wanted to try and make sure whatever I buy can be rooted. I found...
http://www.sadroid.com/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-express-prime-in-5-minutes/
Have you tried that one? No idea if it works. Like I said just trying to find a sure fire method before I spend the money.
Yes I have unfortunately with undesirable results. Great phone and very speedy for the price. (Touch wiz) but hey it's cheap. I've currently tried kingroot, iRoot, poot, towelroot, and framaroot? But got the closest with iRoot it just freezes after the last reboot... I do believe there might be a way with Odin? But I'm not sure fire with Samsung touchwiz products mostly HTC sense. I'm gonna do more research today and ill get back with some results.
Update:
It seems there is on oem unlock feature in the developer options. Problem is I can't boot into the boot loader from the stock recovery. It starts to then just reboots as normal. If i can get into the boot loader I'm sure I can use fastboot to unlock and maybe make an iroot application work?

Please, someone find a way. I have this phone, and I really need to root it...

to get to stock recovery
Recovery Mode Samsung Galaxy Express Prime
Turn off the device
Press and hold Volume UP key + Home Key, while pressing these keys then press and hold Power key for a while
Release all key when Android or Samsung logo appear then you will see Android System Recovery
Use Volume keys to select Menu
Use Power key to Confirm
i think i have found a cwm for galaxy express prime will let oyu know if it works or if i brick my phone
Recently had to replace my HTC with a cracked screen that I had rooted for a long time. I got this Express Prime as a replacement. It's frustrating not having root powers on my cell. I'm voting for a root as well..have tried many different methods before searching. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
The closest I got was 70% on King Root PC
The closest I got was 70% on King Root PC. The mobile version didn't even let me try.
King Root (mobile version) now has the "Try to root" button at the "root strategy unavailable" screen. I tried it, but at 20% the app says "Network Error - Unable to get root strategy from cloud". The thing is, is I was on 4G LTE. I tried WiFi to see if that was what it wanted. Same outcome. This was on 7/20/16.
Today (7/22/16), I received an app notification from King Root saying "The app 'Knox Security' will effect root strategy. Disable it?". The issue with that is you can't disable it. I tried looking up how to without root, and the official Samsung Knox site first said to tap Knox in the app drawer. But there is not a shortcut to launch Knox in the app drawer. So I'm guessing with Knox there can't be root. If someone can figure out how to disable it then we'll be good. I'm going to try to root with the PC version again and see what happens since the mobile version got the "Try to Root" button. I will post the outcome after I try.
Update: Rebooted my Samsung Galaxy Express Prime and then launched King Root (mobile version). It got to "Root unavailable" screen and "Try to Root" button was gone. The app said "request sent" and "not enough requests" as usual.
Sorry about your lack of luck. I'm surprised there is no root for this device yet. Galaxy Express Prime should be fairly common now. I solved a problem with running out of storage by using adaptable storage to make the system see my SD card as Internal Memory, but still. .it's so limited without root control.
SRS root?
I found a tweet. One in June and one from today. I can't post the link bc I'm new but if you go to @srsroot on twitter then ctrl-f on the page using j320a it will come up. and there are a few diff builds posted but mine matches.
The link comes up by google as maybe containing harmful programs. But I suspect that is because it roots google OS? I'm not sure if this works. I'm new to rooting. But I may give it a shot. Has anybody else tried this? Is this legit?

I wouldn't unless it's an official root. Roots the GoogleOS? Rooting is for your cell phone's particular OS for your particular cell phone.

Hello. Maybe some of you have heard of a certain phone known as the Casio G'zone Commando. It is rugged phone from Verizon, and I think it is time that someone develops a custom rom. Even with all of the bloat uninstalled, it still freezes up every once and awhile. This phone isn't very popular, so not many people have tried a get a custom rom on it. Through my research, this is what I found out: The Commando doesn't have a way to get into a recovery menu (there is no key combanation) However, I know that Getitnowmarketing has posted a working recovery on androidforums.com, but you still need to hook it up to a computer to use it. So what does this have to do with custom roms? Also, what is a bootloader, and how would I unlock it on the Commando?? I really need some help. If no one will volunteer, I may just try to pull this off, but first, I am gonna need some education on custom roms and technical android stuff. Thank you!
I have been fooling around with the commando as well, and have found that if you have it connected to your laptop and while booting up you press the power+camera+vol down buttons it will pull up a hard reset screen. During this time I also had Odin3 v1.70 and it shows under the ID:COM - 0:[COM51] highlighted in yellow. Could we at this point download custom firmware, or possibly root?
Any help would be appreciated!

That's very interesting! I think this means that there is a way to recover your phone if something goes wrong!
Unfortunately, I still don't know if this is enough. Somehow we need to get an expert to help answer our questions...
Hopefully one of our devs will be a real sweetheart and get ICS rolling on this device.
There are there no known ICS ROMs for this device???
No, there is not an ICS or JB rom for this device. I don't know if it would be able to run stock JB and ICS well considering it is 800 mhz (I've heard somewhere the recommended ICS speed is 1 ghz), but overclocking is always an option (I think overclocking is easier on custom roms). Also, JB or ICS may run better on it with some customization.
But either way, a custom rom, whether it be based on Android 4.x or 2.x would be great! I would learn how to do things like unlocking the bootloader and making custom roms, but time is an issue for me. I just wish there was a dev out there willing to do this. I would even consider donating!

Yeah I actually realized his is the 4g one neither version seems to have very much support of any kind I wonder if it would be possible to take the ics rom off the new one and make it work on the old one but that is far beyond my scope most I can get is a file dump from the 4g the rest would have to be left to much more capable hands lol all I can even find on the 4g version is rooting it

I've found a few methods to root it. You just need adb and google lol
My dad has the original commando, and his upgrade is in April. It's a ways off, but I may be able to make a port of CM for it from my OG droid CM7 rom since they are similar. I'm not sure yet, since I've never tried making a CM port before, but I'll give it a shot after I get my new phone and customize it around the same time. Who knows, maybe I'll be able to release a stable port for it.

LG Intuition root information
Hello to all, I receive my phone on monday, and im coming from a rooted/rom/oc'ed Samsung Infuse 4g, Xoom, SII, and countless cheap tablets all tweaked so I cant wait to get into the guts of this phone but first I need root. Im no dev or coder but definetly not a noob so hopefully somebody takes the file im gonna upload and see if it actually works. Searching by the Japanese name of Optimus Vu p895 I found a "one click'' root for the phone that im gonna post. They also claim to have the bootloader unlocked also to have a custom recovery like CWM but I havent found anything yet about that. I hope the dev's and rom guys get to this phone because to me it looks like the perfect pocket powerhouse imo.
THIS IS MEANT FOR DEV'S OR THE CURIOUS TO SEE IF IT WORKS. ANYTHING HAPPENS TO YOUR PHONE IS NOT MY FAULT.
This site was found by a simple google search, and the "super one-click" is meant for Android 2.3.5, hopefully one of you guys can make it work for 4.0.4 I dont get my phone til monday after thanksgiving so ill try it myself then.
the file is not uploading so the site is ninjaromeo . com /root-lg-optimus-vu-p895/

Yeah, no worries. How much do you know about development? I am not new to rooting, but I was so excited about removing bloatware that I removed a little too much and now I'm probably going to have send mine in for warranty. Any chance you know how to pull a system .img so I could reflash mine??? lol
I'll PM you just in case you dont see this.
Yeah I heard that if you remove a certain "bloatware " app it activates another verizon lock app, and once the phone is turned off it locks the phone up. I completly removed all verizon apps and the "lockout" so hopefully i wont have the that problem.
But ive flashed many other devices but i dont know how to put up the system image. It cant be that difficult, im gonna google and youtube it to find out how. I believe there is another thread on xda with the lg intuition system image also. But ill try to get that to you tonight if possible. One quick question....once you have the image how are you gonna flash it?, i thought the bootloader was locked, or is there a program like odin for LG?

Yeah, I'm luckily not locked out of the phone, but it would be nice to have a clean install. The boot loader is locked, and to my knowledge there is no Odin like program, but I was able to pull my .IMG a while ago. I'm hoping I can just push a clean .IMG, hard reset and call it good. I'll check when I get home to see if I can find how I did it.
Update: phone died...charged it up....turned on... received a security error. I deleted Verizon apps or something that triggered this. I returned the phone and within an hour rooted the new one without touching the Verizon apps.
This is not something new with LG phones I'm hearing. But if you go to developer options and turn on CPU stats it annoying to me that the phone is constantly sending messages to LG and Verizon servers and basically going ape**** in the background. So until the bootloader gets unlocked and a Rom is available I'm going with droidwall as a firewall and stock root. I wouldn't touch the Verizon apps or even quarantine IMO.

I finally got mine done. Went with a one click option that I found on youtube. It truly was a one click (well actually two) and it immediately gave me root priv. At any rate, download Titanium and then "freeze" the bloatware that you don't want. This way also prevents them from hogging cache and RAM. But, it doesn't trigger the commie Verizon bootloader locks. As of yet, ODIN does not support this device, but gooManager does. Haven't tried to flash yet, but it's downloaded and just sitting there....I'm afraid to pull the trigger. I wish I could remember the link...I typed "how to root android 4.0.4" and it was like the third or fourth option. I tried and tried and tried JCase's method, but got caught in the shell because it wouldn't verify lgroot.sh file was in place. It was. Looking forward to developing. Im in IT in college as a non-trad so expect a lot of questions you guys.

LG intuition Root 4.04 Help!
Can someone help me root my LG VS950 its been updated to 4.04 and I can't get it rooted using Bin4ry or Jcase suggestions so for... Others said it works with the 4.04 update, I just can't figure out what I may be doing wrong... when it gets to the reboot part and ask me to hit restore it starts and stops I about 5 seconds and nothing happens.. I added a pic of what it said when I tried to root using bin4ry method.. hopefully one of you can decipher this for me and help me find a solution...
P.S. and to be clear what USB connection type do I select (MTP, PTP, Internet Connection, or Charging) after I turn debugging mode on. and do I need to factory reset before I root?
Any other minor tid-bits would also be helpfull thanks..
Thanks in advance!
Here is how you fix it.
Power up the phone holding Power, Volume Up and Volume Down until Download Mode appears on the phone.
Connect the phone with the usb cable to the computer.
Use the LGMobile Support Tool and go to Customer Support -> Recovery Phone.
Follow the onscreen instructions from there.
This will download and reload your phone. Takes about 30 minutes total. All data will be lost.
Hopes this helps people.

Does this have anything to do with rooting the phone? Your response was @ no one in particular so i wanted to be sure before followed your directions
This is when you root it and you delete bloatware that it doesnt like. When the phone restarts and it shows that there is a Security Error, Can not find morningcall meaning a soft brick. The method that I gave gets your phone back up and running. It does wipe the phone so be prepared.
It shows the device connected and then I get an error when it is checking the information. It validates the esn, cell phone number, then right before it errors out it says its looking for LG PC-sync software. All drivers are installed. Any ideas?
I successfully got mine rooted but Bricked on restart due to Vz security software. I posted Step by Step restore in case of brick.

I will try to post a screen shot when I get home but it is very similar to Peter Bishop but I am not even getting the prompt to add busy box, it says "confirm backup", "confirm restore", and then reboots and says it is done....but Root Checker says the device is not rooted. I am trying this on V31 of the root program.
Here is what is hangs on:
Device type:
1) New Standard-Root <thx Ariel Berkman>
2) New Xperia Root by Goroh_jun <Xperia Z, XperiaV [JellyBean] ...>
3) Old
4) Old-Special <for example: Sony Tablet S, Medion Lifetab>
G) Google Glass Mode <thx Saurik for the ab file>
x) Unroot

After installing this (don't install (download is fine) this unless you know what you're doing).
It then proceeded to reboot and now when i try switch it on the "Galaxy Note 3" stuff pops up, then it blinks and i can't turn it on without taking off the battery (then i get the white "galaxy note 3" screen as usual again".
I can only get into recovery mode and i really don't want to factory reset as i just went on holiday and didn't back-up my pics yet.

Well, if we had any clue what you were trying to do on which phone, providing help would probably be a bit easier.

Oops looks like the hyperlink didn't work.
I am too new to post links. Type www . datafilehost . com / d / 58831a1e without the spaces.
I granted it root access then my phone restarted, then the normal galaxy note 3 white text appeared but then the phone crashed.
I went into recovery mode, however now if i try go to recovery mode it simply restarts the phone one again then crashes.
I can't even reset it now since i can't get into recovery mode (this may be due to me (noob) accidentally pressing restart with ADP or something like that).
My phone is a galaxy note 3 (rooted with kingo root) SM-N9005 (got this mobile phone from a1 . net on a contract).

If you pirate, crap happens. Do not pirate.
Anyway, you should contact Chainfire because he is the creator of Chainfire3D. Don't know if he will help you because you pirated his application... :screwy:
Anyway, I will update this after I get his email. UPDATE: [email protected], send an email to that with the title "[root] Chainfire3D"

It's ok to not be knowledgeable, but less ok to not even try to research the topic. It's not exactly a secret...

Make sure to grab the update for your region for best results.
*You don't need recovery for this and this will bring back the stock recovery as well.

I would recommend instead getting the OEM rom and following recovery procedure.

Wrong.
Your link provides untrusted downloads from filesharing sites.
Mine is a trusted download directly from the manufacturer.

Ah, if you only knew what you were talking about...
Sammobile is not directly from Samsung / the manufacturer and they have used rapidgator as one of their upload sites along with terafile as their official uploads and most of the guides you find just link to those sites. Plus if you understand how Odin works, you know that it checks the md5 first to assure the file is not corrupted. That and the OP wanted instructions, which you didn't bother helping with either. We obviously have a different idea what "wrong" is, it would appear.
Please Help LG Tribute 2 ( LG LS665 )
Well Recently I tried to root my phone using my computer using a youtube video using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979 but, when I tied using the latest 1click root or something it didn't work it said could not find sideral number, so then I tried the newest old version if you know what mean and it seemed to work but then phone restarted and I noticed it was taking a long time so I just waited but it didn't seem to be going anywhere I tried to reboot it but that didn't help so I decided it was bricked. I tried to go into factory reset it by holding the power button and volume button I also tried clicking the volume button. Sorry about how long it is I was just trying to give as much details as I can

I see NewYork was a poster in here with LG one-click-root problems, he found the thread I did on one-click-root method bricking LG devices on all variants Tmobile, Metro, Boost, etc.... I see no one has posted a hard to find link to 6th_Hokage's thread on not only unbricking these devices, but achieving root as well. If this post is too old or someone else has posted in here somewhere this same link, my apologies:

Running 5.1 lollipop and model 5017b.
A simple yes(with link) or no will be appreciated.

And kingo, towelroot, framaroot didn't work for me
Thanks in advance.
i have one and was able to root it with "Kingroot" checked root with some know root apps and it is rooted with SU and DEV Access. How Ever i can not get a recovery.img to work. cannot boot into recovery mode.
Try going to developer options and turn on OEM unlock.
Is there a way to get OTG functionality?

Try to get to system recovery by holding volume down and power.
Then wipe cache, then wipe data/factory reset.

I'm in the exact same boat... Going to recovery and wiping data doesn't fix the issue.
I'm trying to flash stock rom but it doesn't seem to be detected as a MTK Preloader device. Have you gotten anywhere with this?

I'm taking a total shot in the dark but I read somewhere that vol up & vol down plus power will get you into download mode - just a thought. I was thinking about buying one of these things, if it can be rooted. $20 at Best Buy this week!

ive just completed my root with kingroot 4.8.5 version, so far so good 3 days n running.just go to kingroot.net press da green android button n good luck.you do no about usg debugging and allow unauthorised apps .cheers bb225?
Anyone figure out how to fix this thing yet? I ended up with a black screen except for restart menu, and safe mode text when booting into safe mode. As well as vibrations from keypress, hard/soft keys, and factory wipe is in the same state as the earlier poster, useless, but accessible.. I also was rooted with kingroot, used super-sume, and that after I updated su binaries followed with a reboot to what seems almost like a broken systemui.apk but I wouldn't know. ****ing lame though.

Hey man can you do me a favor and share your NetworkSystemProvider UID apk with me? You can do this via Link2SD.
I accidentally uninstalled this app and now all network connectivity doesn't work.

I just picked up one these phones a couple of days ago. I thought I had soft bricked it. It got stuck on the boost splash screen and recovered itself after about 10 minutes. The thing just seems like an LG copy with physical keys. I was able to bring it into the android L recovery. Power, home key, volume down. When it flashes Alcatel. Volume up and press the power button a few times. Similar to the HTC phones. My question is when I first activated it. There was blue android splash screen. Is that when the boost stuff flashed itself? Almost seems like it locked the boot loader then. Read a little more and seen to just do the OEM unlock. Makes sense and seemed to have worked. Anybody has advice on what to do next? I'm about to go ahead and try some things I have success in the past with different phones.

im interested in knowing if you got your bootloader unlocked i attempted and got "waiting on any device" i figured it was an issue with the abd fastboot drivers from what i read online,so i tried using universal drivers and despite getting the serial when i type adb devices i still got "waiting on any device" when i tried "fastboot get-oem-unlock.
I'm new on here so bare with me I'm not certain of etiquette and such. I received an email saying to make sure I'm posting about the right device. I think the elevate from Boost and Virgin are probably the same phones. I just switched on OEM unlock in developer options through settings. It asked me if was sure. I have not gotten to hookup to a PC yet but I assume you are talking about something that I would call a fastboot adb. I have downloaded a terminal emulator and when I punch in "su" it says. "[email protected]:/ #"
Whether I have that switch on or not. Is there a command you can punch in to tell you if it's unlocked without rebooting into boot loader?
Unlock elevate
Where I'm going with this is that it says it is rooted as a one touch pixi. There is much more stuff about the pixi than the elevate on the pixi forum. Post 1192 on page 120 of the pixi 3 forum states that the elevate has a different chipset than the pixi. I seen some earlier posts on this thread that are saying the same thing and that this device is a Qualcomm device.
Knox has been tripped/ flagged, think that you're done for...
