Xperia M series is No more!! - Sony Xperia M4 Aqua

A few days ago we have been informed that Xperia Z series replaced with New Xperia "X" series. Now Sony confirmed Xperia M series and Xperia C series is No more. Xperia X will be the mainstay for Sony.
From Xperiablog:
Word coming out from the Asian tech media is that not only has Sony ended the Xperia Z series, apparently the Xperia C and Xperia M series have also been cancelled. This means that Sony may exclusively use the Xperia X as a single brand to push all future handsets. This would tie in with our recent report that the rumoured ‘Xperia C6 Ultra’ may in fact arrive as the ‘Xperia X Ultra’.
Sony Mobile presentations appear to show that the Xperia X series marks Sony’s ‘Chapter 3’. Chapter 1 was between 2010-12 and was about the “open OS for web communication”, with the key highlight being the Sony Android phone that started it all – the Xperia X10. Chapter 2 took place between 2013-15 and was about the “best of Sony” highlighted by the Xperia Z series.
Now chapter 3 will take place between 2016-18 and marks “Xperia for new communication”. This is marked by ‘Xperia X’ as a new visual identity for Sony’s brand communication. The new ‘X’ logo will be used in all promotional print and TV advertising.
To be clear to readers, there will be no compromise in Sony creating a flagship phone. So just because there is no Xperia Z series, future flagship phones will carry on via the Xperia X range, with no compromise in specifications. Obviously what remains to be seen is how Sony will cleanly name all of the various handsets under just one brand, especially if Sony plans to use this over three years. But we’re sure Sony has thought of that…

Yes they should focus on few devices rather then releasing lots of them...

Yes, I feel this is a great decision by Sony, focusing on a few products is much better than focusing more. They are keeping also mid-range as well as flagship products within the X series. So it won't be a problem for the buyers. Policy looks similar with iPhone.

Sony is no more for me if my M4 has had his time or if i can trade it in. For Sony's sake and all future costumers i hope the get there software updates sorted with this new approach.

Sony does the right thing
Unfortunately, SONY will not take too much of the M series, and that all users know. So it is better to have few terminals in a single series, but has better support.

The problem with is this is that Sony NEVER claimed the U to be a successor to Xperia mini.
Probably it will have the new Sony-style design, but not as big as the U, if there will be a 2nd gen Xperia mini.
I hope it could b likr that coz i dnt liked this news thht xperia U will be new xperia mini in a youtube video.i love sonyericsson,s idea of small android phones having power like big guns.i used xperia x10 mini,x8 and now i m using xperia mini ST15i.i love these masterpieces by sonyericsson.Hope SONY will make us happy by making a 3.2 inch 1.5 dual core processor mini with 4 home corners....

Unfortunately, while surfing for the next mini, I stumbled uppon the same information saying that sony will treat the "U" as the new member of the mini family.
IMO, it's a huge let down. Xperia mini pro is at the limit of being "mini". So trying to sell the U as "pocket friendly" just because it's half inch smaller than the S, is the same as shouting "morons!" in customers face.

Still a good choice ? or a successor is on the way ?

I just recently sold my Xperia Tablet z
I am looking forward to buy this
but I am not sure if the time is right to buy it
is there any Xperia Z ultra successor on the way? is Xperia Z ultra 2nd generation coming out soon?
I am not sure .....

I've not seen one even rummered yet, but thereis bound to be a successor sooner or latter unless the volumes haven't meet expectations of the sales.

[Q] Sony Xperia Z1 Compact vs Moto X..

..which is the most popular/best supported by Cyanogenmod devs?
The Moto X has way more custom ROMs than the Z1 Compact but the Z1 Compact became available this January and the Moto X, August 2013. Anyways I'm pretty sure more Z1 Compact ROMs will pop up soon since Sony is a very popular manufacturer. If you're deciding which phone to get, I would suggest you the Z1 Compact.

I think the Sony is a better phone anyway, so that's good news.
Are there any good ways to judge how well supported a phone is/isl likely to be supported on CM, apart from asking around on forums? It would be useful if there was some kind of index based on numbers of recent updates, forums posts etc.

Android Lollipop (14.5.A.0.242) certified for Xperia Z1, Z Ultra and Z1 Compact

Looks like owners of the Sony Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact and Z Ultra will be joining the Android Lollipop family shortly. New firmware with build number 14.5.A.0.242 has just been certified for all variants of the above handsets with the strong likelihood of this being Lollipop.
Sony said that other variants of the Xperia Z series would start to see the update in around two weeks. This was last week, so potentially we could see Lollipop rolling for the Xperia Z1 series and Z Ultra by the end of this month. We’ll keep you posted on further developments.*

as pointed out above we don't need two threads on the exact same thing. Closing this one up.

Sony kills the entire Z series. I think it's a stupid move

While we were waiting endlessly for the second iteration of Z Ultra which never happened, Sony has apparently decided to shut the whole Z series down:

http://www.xperiblog.com/2016/02/xperia-z-series-is-dead-officially.html
This is the official statement from a Sony rep:
“The Xperia Z line has reached its culmination – Xperia X series represents a new chapter and evolution of our product strategy. Whilst the Xperia Z series was all about bringing the best of Sony’s advanced technologies to smartphones, Xperia X series is based on bringing smart, adaptive Sony user experiences across camera, battery performance and hardware / software design.”
To me, this is a grudging acceptance by Sony that they could not compete in the flagship segment of the competitive smartphone market. While Sony's Xperia Z series were fine devices, they could never reach the sales levels of Samsung's Galaxy S series or LG's G series. The Xperia X series will probably be cheaper devices but then, Samsung on the one hand and the plethora of Chinese makers on the other have already flooded those segments with all kinds of phones at all price points.
Sorry Sony, this is all but your fault. In today's environment, a fine phone with a few defects here and there will not simply cut it.
Life goes on.
I hope they will be smarter with X series and won't go with 6 month update cycle. Also, X Ultra, I'd want that.
Is there any info about support or is it open season for custom programing ?
the X Performance is the only one in the new line-up which I would vaguely consider, if there was an Ultra version of it.
I have resigned myself that a Huawei Mate 8 might be the successor to my XZU.

it s look like all xperia x phones has same screen size .. and there s no phab versions and compact.. if this is true it is really stupid move
