Hey guys, thought id create a thread for people to discuss any issues of tips for android pay UK as it was released on 18/05/2016.
I've managed to get it working - Rooted with latest chroma & systemless root!
Tested in a shop - works perfectly!
Method if ROOTED
1. Make sure you are on latest systemless root beta.
2. Uninstall any ad blocking software (adaway edits system)
3. Enter the following permission changes in ADB or using a root explorer.
-Run "adb shell"
-From the shell run "su"
-On the # prompt run "chmod 751 /su/bin/"
4. Restart phone
5. You should now be able to add a card and then try it out in a shop. If not, try a clean install of your ROM and systemless root.
OPTIONAL - if you use adaway, there is a systemless version you can use so that it doesn't modify the system! Flash the "Systemless Hosts file" Zip in the link below PRIOR to adaway installation!

May i Ask how?
I can second that - works like a charm!
I have Pure Nexus ROM installed.
Can download the app but get the message "Google is unable to verify that your device or the software running on it is Android compatible" when I try and add a card.
Android n v3 rooted and working good I think it's setup but not tested lol

Ive added the method to the 1st post so people can see how to do it!
Let me know if it works!
I flashed the latest N Dev preview then activated Pay but had a "can't verify your version of android" error message. Turns out I had changed the DPI on the last dev preview and after setting it to default Pay started working (at least I could now add a card). I'll test it actually works at a terminal today. Systemless root, adaway etc. As a matter of interest, I left a review on the Playstore (before changing the DPI) and Google answered within minutes asking me if I was rooted and/or on the preview. They also informed me they're actively working on allowing Pay to work on rooted devices.
*Edit* Yep, successful payment made today.
Nexus 6P
I'm on stock rooted systemless and latest AdAway installed no problem with Android pay.

I suggest you wipe /system and install Pure Nexus again; this time don't use the newest provided GApps for that Rom, use the 2-3-16 GApps, or you can try Open GApps. Now flash the UnSu Update file, or whatever it's called to unroot Pure Nexus (Pure Nexus has /system root by default and will never work with Android Pay). After you've done that you can root with systemless root and AP should work. Check with the SafetyNet app from the Play Store to make sure it passes all the checks.

Yes. I did this and it works (not tried posting yet though!).
I wiped, reflashed, used April's gapps, followed all the other steps and hey presto! Thanks
Installed it the other day and used it for the first time today; feels pretty magical!
I'm not able to add any more cards at this point though even though my bank supports Android Pay. I keep getting a super vague and unhelpful "Request Failed" error message. My bank tells me it's Google's fault, and Google seems to be clueless about it. Anyone have any more information on this error?

Works perfectly. Paid for my Friday night beers. Woohoo!
Where can I find systemless root for Preview 3 ?
Android Pay has been pretty ropey in my experience, been very slow to make payment, can take a good 4-5secs to get locked-on when it works, which it doesn't always. For the last couple of days I've only used it on the Underground when I know both entry and exit wouldn't be busy, basically not at rush hour.
I've tried all different approaches... top of phone, middle and bottom. Nothing seems to improve the speed of payment. Any tips on how I could improve performance?

The NFC chip on the 6P is inside the glass visor. Make sure you touch any payment platform with that.
By the way, if the SafetyNet app says it passed the checks, can I use Android Pay without problem? I'm rooted with systemless root and have Adaway without any zips. However, in the Adaway settings I use the data/data/hosts target. Safety Net passes. I don't have a card that can be used with Android Pay right now, but it should be coming next week.

Just an FYI
There is a zip you can flash prior to installing Adaway that makes AP and Adaway play nice together
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24438995911977059
From the OP in the Adaway thread
Yesterday I tried n preview 3 for the first time and I must say that I'm impressed. Installed android pay with no problems at all. The only thing that seems a little annoying is that I was endeavouring to make twrp work, which I couldn't, and when it hung and I had to reinstall n3, I found I was required to phone the bank again to reactivate the card.

Features
Bypasses Exchange Security requirements such as the PIN lock requirement in AOSPish ROMs.
Verified working in
Nexus 5/4.4 stock
Working on latest CM11 nightlies
Requirements
Latest Xposed installed
Android 4.4
Root
Install Instructions
Ensure you have deleted your corporate accounts before continuing. This will not fix an already installed device admin.
Download and Install "Xposed Installer"
Open the Xposed Installer, tap Framework, tap Install/Update - a lot of people are missing this step.
Reboot device
Install ExchangeBypass-x.x.apk
Enable module in Xposed
Reboot again
Add account in mail
May say security is required but should not come up and ask to create device administrator.
Success!

2013-09-13 - 1.0 - Initial Version
Notes
I have no clue if this will work in your ROM, I wrote it just for me since at the time there was no Xposed mod for Exchange security bypass. If it doesn't work, let me know and I can see if I can update the module for your situation. It might be a simple update. If it works, let me know so I can update the OP with what it is confirmed working with.
May not work with anything below KitKat because of application naming. I don't have access to anything less than 4.4 anymore.
Other ROM requests - It's hard for me to get to these. If you have something you really want, I need to get access to the ROM image so I can pull out the email application and any libraries associated with it. Send me a message here or email me.

I would try removing the account and recreating. Based on how this works it disables the checks when the account is used and added to prevent the device administrator profile. If you disable the device administrator if might delete the account so you could try that first.
Try that and let me know. If that doesn't work see if you can get the application name like com.android.email.
Removing device admin usually removes the exchange account... I'll try your method (and a variation of it) tomorrow, but meanwhile, perhaps the file name is different in my phone - maybe that's why?
See screenshot.

Yep usually it does that's why I suggested deleting and recreating it.
It have a different identifier. Check under apps and look for the app identifier. It might say com.android.email. I key off of that so that could cause it not to work.
OK. For the love of life, I can't seem to find the identifier for the email app. For the exchange add on, its com.Google.android.exchange
Removing email from device admin got rid of the account. Refuses to work otherwise :/
Maybe the target shouldn't be the email app, but the exchange app? Or maybe I'm using bone stock 4.3 and that could be the reason? (I'm not a dev, nor anywhere near it - but I do consider myself a computer freak and a whiz!) I don't want to flash so I'm hoping I could get your mod to work.

What version of Xposed are you using? Can you verify that Xposed is loaded? Every time you update your ROM you will need to reinstall Xposed or add in the file into the /etc/addon.d/ directory to backup the Xposed modified version of /system/bin/app_process.

I would verify that Xposed is installed and then go into the Xposed Installer and make sure it's installed as well. There are two parts to the Xposed installer.
After you've verified, then make sure the mod is installed and checked, then reboot, then add the account.
Here's what I tried: installed xposed. Reboot. Verified xposed is working (cause the other modules - gravitybox - is working). Enabled your mod. Reboot. Added exchange account. And nope!
Could it be something with deodex/odexed ROMs?

Ok, So i got the new updates from Google Wallet to the new Google Wallet and Android Pay.
When I attempted to setup Android Pay, I received the error that my device couldn't be "verified as being compatible."
A little browsing turned up some information that Android Pay doesn't like rooted devices, and even gave a couple of solutions.
1. Disable Superuser access if your Superuser app has the capability.
2. If option one isn't possible, then go back to stock, activate, and re-root.
This fix will NOT work for everyone, but since it is a simple setting change, it can't hurt to try this before looking into more 'drastic' measures. This will most likely only work on rooted stock ROMS.
I know that I use Chainfire's SuperSU app, and it has the ability to be disabled so the operator does not has superuser access until it is re-enabled. Simply go to your SuperSU app, go into the "Settings," and uncheck the "Enable Superuser." Different versions and other apps may be a little different, but principle should remain the same if it is an option.
After disabling SuperSU, open Android Pay and complete your initial setup. Once completed, return to the SuperSU app and re-enable Superuser access. The Android Pay app has continued working since then for me.

it appears rooted stock ROMs will probably work if you disable superuser (no guarantee though). Custom and ported ROMs most likely will never work unless the devs figure out a workaround. I would also imagine a otherwise stock ROM running a custom kernel wouldn't work either based on rbeavers' link.
Another note, I've integrated updated system apps and certain other apps into the system partition, so that probably won't matter if anyone is curious about that. (Could be different for other people though.)

Just got the new Android Pay. I received an error that my device couldn't be verified as being compatible. Found some where else that it doesn't like rooted devices . Fix with SuperSU is easy. Tried it didn't work for me "turned off " SU. My bank isn't on the "list". So that might be it?
Maybe? I didn't think Android Pay used the bank account, only Wallet does. Pay requires you to link your debit or credit card. Both apps automatically pulled my information, so I didn't have to dig into that very much.
Another thing my ROM is otherwise stock.
I've also read that Android Pay just doesn't like some ROMs, so users on custom or ported ROMs and a few devices in general are probably going to be left out in the cold... unfortunately.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge of the Android system can help us out here soon.

For those who use Xposed framework and would like to use it on the Fire stick ive managed to find a way how to install xposed v85 on Fire stick without a recovery.
Ive successfully installed it onto my own Fire Stick and a friends Fire stick.
Before you go on im not responsible for any bricking you might encounter.
Your more than welcome to wait for Rbox to release a custom recovery for the stick.
Please note, im only passing on what i found and tried, i did not make the tool.
Be very careful on what modules you install, again im not responsible for any bricks that might arise.
This obviously requires root. Im rooted with kingoroot.
The Fire sticks i tested where on 5.0.5 and 5.2.1.0
If your on a higher firmware version and are rooted use this guide and come back:

First download this:
http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=13649473132596741692
Next extract the folder to your desktop.
Open up ADBlink and connect to your Fire stick.
Upload the entire contents to your Fire sticks internal sd card, (make sure the files are going to /sdcard).
Head over to your Fire stick and install busybox, open busybox up and click install and wait till its finished.
Very important to click install inside of the Busybox app, if it wont let you exit the app and try again. You will have problems trying to run the script further in the guide
Install Terminal (not sure if this step is necessary as you will be using ADBlink's ADB Shell, but it was used when i found this info). Finally install Xposed installer, make sure you DO NOT open the Xposed apk yet, just click done.
Now if you used a different way to do this and the files are not in the /sdcard directory now is the time to move them to the /sdcard directory.
Back over to windows pc.
Click ADB Shell in ADBlink (you should have it still open and connected to your Fire stick).
Type the following commands:
su then hit enter.
sh /sdcard/installer.bin then hit enter.
Choose option 1 hit enter.
You will see alot of errors, ignore these and restart your Fire Stick.
It will take a while to boot and go to the optimizing apps screen and take about 10 minutes to boot up.
After its booted go ahead and check Xposed is installed !
Again im not responsible for anyone's Fire Stick and/or any modules you may try.

I should of included this information when I made the guide but in order to be able to select and activate any xposed mod in xposed menu after you have installed it using the fire stick remote alone will not allow you to navigate to the checkbox and put a tick into it.
In order to do this you must have an app to turn the remote into a mouse or some other way to manoeuvre the pointer.
The 3 ways I know of doing this are:
1/ Mouse toggle for fire tv. This is the easiest way but its a paid app. Download it from Google play and send it to your Fire TV.
2/ Droidmote server, agaim another paid app from Google play store but this must have Google play store/services installed as to allow for license check. There is a guide to follow to have this installed on here somewhere.
3/ Use Bluetooth mouse if you have one.
4/ Use an USB mouse with an OTG connector, the commands to start OTG are on AFTVnews.com, I have this command autorun at boot to enable otg after a restart (very handy).
There may be other ways but these are the omes ive had experience with and use myself.
As per usual I recommend that you wait for a working recovery system, if you install something from an Xposed Module & it bricks your Stick you will have no way back! Rbox is working on the recovery & a prerooted rom for the stick. Use at your own risk I would say.... this is just a helping hand & I'm not trolling your thread, just some newer users may not know the risks.

I think I have made my point already about the risks involved and im almost certain that anyone wanting xposed on the fire stick will already know the risks, as with anything involving root/xposed etc.
I have tested this myself and know it works and have listed some modules I have installed that work fine. As long as people stay away from modules that are definitely no use to fire stick and heavily moddify /system (im sure when reading the description of modules it will say in the write up about them) I cant see there being any problems.
I will continue to list any modules that I find are of any use to fire stick and list them here. If people want to wait for a custom recovery that is there choice, as ive pointed out in the guide. In my eyes everything you have said is already pointed out in the first post.
Also I will add as long as your Rooted and have a working adb connection either through WiFi or USB there is a chance you can come back from a bricked state with my other guide I put together.

I have/still have xposed installed from when it was running OS3. Do I need to flash the uninstaller?
Also what version youtube are you using to get Youtube adaway to work? Thanks

Ive no idea if this works with gen 1 FTV. With the gen 1 FTV now having custom recovery you could flash the zip the normal way to have xposed on (Im sure you would flash the same version, arm 22?) please double check that first.
I put this guide together for use with the fire stick, as it has not got a custom recovery and we cant use the tool flashify.
I use the latest version of youtube downloaded directly from within the fire sticks interface.

Well it's gen 1 but running OS5 so I'm pretty confident it'll work but was just hoping for confirmation (if not from you then anyone who may've tried it).
That's interesting that the adaway is working with amazon stock youtube. I used to sideload one from playstore and it had it's glitches because it was designed for tablets. Even the android tv version wasn't perfect but the ads got blocked at least.

Since theres a custom recovery in place for fire tv 1 if I was you too minimise any risk id follow the guides on AFTVnews on installing TWRP recovery. Then at least if you run into problems you can restore it.
I have xposed on my gen 2 fire tv and im sure its 64bit version, but the gen 1 and fire stick are just normal arm version(sdk22 for 5.1)
Yes, the stock amazon youtube, whole better experience when ads are removed.
I followed the guide and successfully installed xposed and a few modules (AdBlocker, YouTube AdAway, and RboxFireTvMods).
Unfortunately, somewhere along the way I lost the stock launcher. My firestick is on OS v5.0.5 as per the guide and I also have FireStarter V.3.2.3 installed and running fine, so my firestick isn't useless. I can still launch FireTV Settings from the apps menu but FireTV Home is no longer there. I also made sure that it wasn't just hidden and oddly enough it is still listed under the hidden apps menu, although I have it unchecked so that it should be visible.
Is there some way that you are aware of to get the Stock launcher back without factory resetting?

Rboxfiretv mods disables it.
You can still access the settings by the fire tv settings icon but if you want to see fire tv stock launcher you cant have Rboxfiretv xposed mod running.
Also very glad to see another user benefiting from this guide

Ahh, that was the problem. Thank you very much for the quick and informative reply!
I need to do some more research into that module. It appears from the reading that I should be able to use the stock launcher with it enabled since it has options for modifying what is displayed in the stock launcher. Of course this all should be addressed in that post. Its good to highlight that this may occur for other people though. Thanks again!

Your welcome.
The mod is quite old and has not been updated in a while.
It is useful to disable the stock launcher, that is what I use it for, disabling certain things from the Amazon launcher is broke, im not sure if and when Rbox is updating it.
There is a guide I followed to remove some menu features before (photos, music etc) through adb commands.
The same thing can be accomplished by using Titanium backups freeze feature as long as you know which ones to disable.
Here are the ones I disabled on my fire stick:
package:com.amazon.precog
package:com.amazon.recess
package:com.amazon.whisperplay.contracts
package:com.amazon.bueller.photos
package:com.amazon.kindle.cms
package:com.amazon.client.metrics
package:com.amazon.device.software.ota
package:com.amazon.whisperlink.core.android
package:com.amazon.application.compatibility.enforcer
package:com.amazon.whisperplay.service.install
package:com.amazon.device.software.ota.override
package:com.amazon.bueller.music

Well xposed is working on aftv1 box but youtube adaway (probably the only mod I care about) is not.
Which version of youtube is working? I have 1.2.0

The latest one downloaded directly from Amazon.
I have the same set up on my fire tv 4k box with latest youtube and xposed youtube adaway and it works on that also.
I might add also make sure you have the latest xposed framework installed.
I can confirm, this Xposed installation work with 5.2.1.0 too, have successfull installed on my rooted Firestick in my Kitchen xD experimental tested *fg*
damn good work. @sconnyuk can you build a installer for fully working google play? Just a idea.

Thats good news. I will test this myself and update the guide tomorrow.
As for Google playstore, that would be the icing on the cake, its what im trying to find an answer for at the moment.
The closest and next best thing I have is my Google account and Google services setup so im able to use my paid apps that do a license check.
Also using DroidMote on firestick is excellent.
morning, i install it on my firestick (same config) in the living room to see it will work again...
but i'm sure it will work
Gesendet von meinem LG-H850
Only way I can think of Google play store installation would be with flashify:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ery&pcampaignid=APPU_1_kWqFV-OkMevCgAa28oSIAg
With gapps version arm-5.1-pico from this page:
http://opengapps.org
BUT IVE NOT TESTED THIS.......
As im unsure if flashing this would brick the device.?
Has anyone tried using Flashfire?
http://flashfireapk.com
I'm just curious. It works on Fire Tablet running OS5 and I've ONLY used it on that. I'm not looking to possibly contribute to a bricked device, just wondering if it's been tried...
Feels like I'm beating a dead horse, but I can't understand why Youtube Adaway isn't working with Youtube 1.2.0 on my device. Pretty sure that's the latest version because there's no update available. According to others it works.
***What would be cool is to get Awesome Popup video to work fully with xposed. I was able to use it on OS3 but never could get it working right--open youtube video, have option of playing in a smaller window while I go to another app.
All I could do was get it to work with videos from within the awesome popup UI, which is no where near as good (much smaller selection, can't access your subscriptions, playlists, etc.)

You could try the obvious, uninstall youtube disable xposed mod reboot, reinstall youtube from Amazon and re enable xposed mod.
As for flashfire, it won't work as it requires chainfires supersu.
Until a way tp swap kingoroot for supersu comes along then we can only wait for custom recovery.
second firestick running 5.2.1.0 in living room successfull xposed installed after small issue (newest kingo root from homepage must be installed)
think this with Kingo Root is a important information!
after rbox tools, stick start faster *fg*

Hey guys
Its been a few year since I rooted. don't worry ive already spotted the guide on how to.
My question is once im rooted. Does the old Xposed framework thingy still exist?
What app are we using for govenor/kernel control?
Is titanium backup still a good option?
Basically, whats my app suite gonna look like when im done? How am I going about tweaking my phone?
I guess im asking whats your set of default apps for your rooted phone. Mangment, tweak, backuo, gapps etc
If you have the xperia xz1, which is on android 8, oreo I don't believe Xposed framework is working on oreo yet. I also believe only one kernal is working to get root, not sure if it has any governor controls though. Titanium is still good for removing unwanted bloat.
To answer about xposed, it still work on oreo but this is a beta take a look at my attachment, I have a XZ1 Running oreo 8.0.0 firmware 47.1.A.12.75 and Xposed is working on it, I flashed it through TWRP
Hope it helped
Thank you
Just wanting to get back on the root shoot.
Even if im just rooting and trimming all the fat out. Xposed looks good. Cant wait to take all the bloatware out. Is there a "safe to remove" list about? At work ATM, but will be diving right into this this week

from trial and error there isn't a lot of "safe to remove" items, I trimmed out 5 maybe 6 items before the rom got squirrelly.
This is just from memory but I got rid of avg, chrome (I use Iron browser) email and exchange, amazon and wiki links, as well as the system facebook and youtube ( to give more control over those items) Just about anything else resulted in apps force closing or other issues
Thanks guys,
Seems like its all just about how it was. Give or take a few apps.
My last thing I wonder is, how do I run barclays bank app? Im pretty sure it'll not run due to the root. Is there a way round this? Sandbox or something?
I think I just found my answer. Wondering what Magisk was ???
So with magisk I can run banking apps etc. It will also manage all of my root blah blah. Xposed can help me **** about with things. Titanium backup. And new OS.
I think im ready now ?
If you run Xposed, you lose a large chunk of the MagiskHide capabilities. You're better off without Xposed and just using Magisk
Really? That's bad. I remember xposed was fun. I shall have a read up on Magisk when I get time.
Planning on the weekend. So I can have a full day of it ?

I recommend you to use EXKM (for kernel control) and FX File Browser (with the root addon) for all the debloating and modifications in the system folders.
Hey,
Ive never heard of EXKM. But still using FX browser since last time I rooted. Never switched ?
Hello.
You can install greenify4magisk, sd maid for cleaning, myandroidtool (do what amplify do but without Xposed)

EXKM = ElementalX Kernel Manager.
Works perfect with XZ1 / XZ1 Compact.

Thank you. Been busy as hell this week. But shall be rooting asap
ok so.
Ive unlocked the bootloader
followed this guide
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz1/how-to/guide-how-to-persistant-root-xperia-xz1-t3718375
And everything worked fine
But i want to install CarbonROM
At what point in that guide do i install CarbonROM? Because my phone has been sat here at the boot "Sony" screen for about 30 mins now, and im pretty sure its not gonna boot up
Ok,
This is doing my head in now.
Twice now ive had to do a full reinstall, how in the living hell do I get xposed installed ontop of magisk?
I think install the xposed installer, then the SDK 26 from magisk. Then reboot? But it bootlooped on me?
Did I technogology wrong?

On the latest version ( .179) , you can't use xposed with magisk. There is nothing to do but waiting right now . We have to wait beta 4 or whatever.
Ah, right.
But am I getting the install procedure correct?
Im not even sure theres anything in closed I actually want. But its an option, therefore I must put it in ?
Is there anything I can do about this?
Did you try this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/fix-magisk-manager-20-3-ctsprofile-t4080921
- Before starting the steps, uninstall all Magisk modules and reboot.
- If your device is not listed in the Props Config, you can try Google Pixel 2 or 3 and Android 10.
- Don't forget to hide Magisk in the Options and Google Play Services, Google Play Store, Google Pay and all banking/game apps in the Magisk Hide menu.
- You should know that all Samsung services (Pay, Pass, Secure Folder, etc.) related to KNOX will never work after rooting (= KNOX tripped)...

SafetyNet fix !
Quicker and easier SafetyNet fix :
Erase the cache from Magisk and flash one of these two fixes :
I used the first one and it works so I didn't test the second...
At least Secure Folder is working fine. Knox deployment is behaving weirdly as it is asking a two pass authentication and it is asking a numerical code when I receive an alphanumerical code... ^^
I don't use Samsung Pay (should at least work with Android Pay but I didn't test it) and I don't use Samsung Pass either but I don't think there should be a real problem as it was asking me to set it up but I removed totally from the system...

actually for me safety net fix only works for android 11 version rom of this device, and even then secure folder doesnt work correctly (for me?), it doesnt save the password, and keep poping up asking to set a password whenever I tried to enter it. The device itself become unstable and keep hot rebooting after every unlock, eventually get thermal throttled for no reason. Though the safety net solution I used was this one: kdrag0n/safetynet-fix , and prob not the one you listed actually its the same developer, though his repository does not contain a v2 release. I still gona try it though
edit: working now, not hot rebooting (yet), but secure folder still doesnt save password, thus cant still be used yet
Arobase40 said:
So make sure you pass the SafetyNet test in Magisk. When done and passed, uninstall completely and properly Secure folder from your settings, and reboot.

the safetynet fix worked on my device when the rom is still on android 10. That is to say, it passed the safetynet test. It was extremely unstable though, hot rebooting after every unlock (unlock, black screen samsung, then back to lock screen) I couldn't get into magisk and disable it, had to delete it through twrp. It was until android 11 that I tried it again. not extremely unstable, just "useable unstable". That was the release file on kdrag0n's repository. Your uploaded v2 file works amazingly. Thanks for sharing:>
Arobase40 said:
I wonder why you mention Android 10 when we're with Android 11 for a long time now...
So is your issue totally fixed with no instability at all anymore and is Secure Folder working also ?

I just want to share my experience about the same device with (prob) the same safety net fix that works on yours, but not my device.
yes, with your safety net fix my tab runs absolutely stable, and I've just tried uninstall secure folder and reinstall it again. Its working perfectly now
