I purchased a s4 Zoom which turned out to be a SM-C105a. So I wanted to see if someone could help clarify some info on it for me.
1) AT&T locked the bootloader, so custom roms are out.
2) News stories reported a 4.4.2 update(end of 2014), however you can't pull that update anymore, if it ever existed.
3) Samsung no longer has stock firmware on it's sites.
4)Even if the bootloader were unlocked SM-C105 4.4.2 roms wouldn't work on the phone.
Did I get all that right?
To answer some of my own questions:
1. N/A, but probably.
2. 4.4.2 Did exist for the SM-C105A http://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00033553/243301/SM-C105AZWAATT
I got a Samsung Rep to confirm that I should have it.
3. Kies and Smart Swap were both tried, but neither worked. I was told to check out a Samsung Experience Store, which I'll hit up tomorrow. Given Lokifish Marz's PSA thread, I assume they won't be able to do much.
4. N/A
If 4.4.2 exists for this, I intend to find it.
The Samsung experience rep told me, the same thing they told Lokifish Marz, The rep let me help him look through the list of all available firmwares, but nothing for the SM-C105A. Samsung has told me I either need to mail it in, and they'll be able to push it or I can hand deliver it to NYC's Samsung service center. From AT&T's side, more proof that 4.4.2 was rolled out: https://www.att.com/devicehowto/tut...KB423547?make=Samsung&model=GalaxyS4zoomC105A I've been told by both AT&T and Samsung that I should be able to update to 4.4.2.
@TheGreatNanners Thanks for checking availability at the service centers. I have the OTA blocked by my firewall. I assumed that it was still working. I didn't want KitKat until I had exhausted my efforts with Jellybean and made sure I could fix the "can't use SdCard" issues. One additional note. You can pull the source from Samsung and build the kernel. Don't change any part of the given def_config or you won't get the same version magic. I haven't tried to load the kernel (I'm sure it will fail) but we can build and insert modules to extend functionality on the device.

So, I have a tab wifi from Canada (I am living here too). I am on stock 3.1 still and it seems like Samsung forgot about our tabs here so I was thinking, and correct me if I am wrong but, I remember hearing that the tabs in the US have gotten 3.2 updates so would it be possible that I could flash an US stock version so I could get updates when they get released to tabs that are in the States?
AFAIK yes, its possible. If you flash a stock US ROM, You should get the updates for US tabs

What's your tablet's official designation, P6200, P6210, etc? This actually does make a difference because the hardware is slightly different in different tabs, (e.g. some have IR transmitters while others don't.)
While it is theoretically possible for you to flash a US ROM, you might cause unintended problems. I would suggest getting your actual model number and then making sure that the rom you flash is for that model number. Another thing to keep in mind is that your tablet is registered with Samsung's servers via its serial number, which brands it as a Canadian tab. Your rom, US or otherwise, probably won't matter because when it checks for updates via KIES or the built-in updater, it will be checking against serial number. This is not to say that you can't continue to pull the latest updates from here as flashable roms and then update manually, but I seriously doubt that flashing a US rom on a tab with a non-US serial will allow you to pick up the latest updates for US tabs. Sorry. Good Luck
Now - while you might not be able to get updates, with a wifi only 7510 there should be no problem for a Canadian retail device to run stock US retail firmware correct? One of the things I'm hoping to do is get a custom ICS working without a rolling ROM on screen wakeup. I've tried a couple and I'm convinced it's some sort of driver issue.
I have the galaxy s4 under prepaid that has firmware i545ppvruaoh7. I've looked everywhere online, can't find that specific firmware and it's been over a month since requests were put on firmware sites for example sammobile. Not one has put the firmware out yet. I'm becoming impatient because I'm not able to tweak until I have that firmware to fall back on if anything were to go wrong. So I've thought of a possible alternative. I'm sure some others have already done it but I use the s4 as my actual phone. It's not really a testing phone cause if it don't run, I'm out of a phone. I don't have any spares ether. So I'm looking for someone to confirm that losing via Odin Oc1 or the other one I can't think of that runs lollipop on postpaid. Some said it works, others say it don't. So if someone can use Odin on a prepaid s4 with postpaid firmware I'd appreciate the help. I hope all would work on the phone without any errors or problems
Has no one tried this yet?

Well so am I but just root isn't enough. Why have root if you can't go very far with it? We need that backup so we can take the risks and be able to recover from it
I understand that the thread title seems like I am being a complete noob (although to be fair, I am).
My journey with this S6 Edge thus far:
I have a Canadian variant (G925W8) and managed to soft brick it through sheer idiocy. I then learned a ton of stuff from you guys here on the forums. My intent is to get this phone running in as close to stock form as possible, however the bloatware apps are not needed. I eventually got one thing working and then the next and currently the phone has XtreStoLite 3.3.1 Marshmallow Rom installed (found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...xtrestolite-deodexed-mod-edition-1-3-t3119968)
I went after the Marshmallow install using the files indicated in that thread. So I have a Marshmallow bootloader, modem etc.
So now I can get into why my title is so strange. When I booted into the phone (which, for the most part, is working alright) I went to enable developer options again and noticed that my model number indicated in the phone is now a G925F. During the install of the custom rom, I made sure to select all options to indicate that my phone was a W8 variant and yet this is what the phone is reporting back to me.
The reason I have this question is because I am looking to get rid of the custom rom, for the aforementioned 'mostly working' comment, and go full stock firmware. Would I be able to find an F variant stock firmware and load that straight on? If yes, do I also need to switch over the bootloader and modem files to an F variant as those are probably hardware based? Which model number matters more? How much is the firmware version reliant on the hardware model number?
In the meantime I will tinker with the Aroma add-ons to get all the functionality the way I want it.
Thanks for any replies on this matter.
SM-a520W model. I bought cause I know I've seen this version include it.
don't care so much for root... want to keep warranty... whats the best stock rom to flash?
also is odin 3.04 ok to use? build number a520wvls1bqk1 if curious for reference on it currently.
The SM-A520F has the radio fm apk, try to install it and see if it works. I don't recommend to install other variant's ROMs since antennas and software frequencies might differ from your original ROM, rendering your phone useless. Chances are it won't even flash.
Edit: Try searching the radio app on apkmirror. The latest version on my device (Nougat) is 2.1.68

I remember on older phones we only needed to install the PDA to flash the phone... is this not the case with this model? even next radio was blocked...
tryed DL and install the fm radio apk.... I get "app not installed package conflicts with existing package with same name"
Canadian carriers are SO GREASE. we should complain to the CRTC
am I hooped/limited in options if I wanted to flash custom rom down the line cause I have the canada model?

sadly I bought from someone else wanting to save dollar :/
all I see on market are Canadian galaxy a5 520w....
I haven't bought a new phone in years.... this is actually the newest peice of tech thatI've ever had... .actually the a5 2017 just turned a year old.
I'm searching online like a bastard for info on how to's.... custom roms and flashing have gotten more advanced since 2012... more security more issues... like before we just flashed the PDA and we were good to go... now we have to flash everything? haven't even tried yet, very nervous to do anything- don't want to trip knox or soft brick the phone- I'm shocked a re flash from odin doesn't reset knox tripping. Also shocked we haven't found a way to reset completely from factory after knox tripping. never really had to worry this much years back. I understand rooting a phone can be very dangerous but having more features and features from other phones is a major bonus
this phone is too new for me... not enough research done on hacking... also I find out this model never came out in the states! only canada! damn no wonder why it doesn't have a much support... also its not an galaxy S line which has more customers. missing that. but NA models were always different (and inferior) anyway... so many things to think about
ok so then... honestly.... the 520W CANT BE THAT DIFFERENT from the 520F and 520F/DS.... besides the modem.... all the hardware has to be the same. correct?
really all I want out of this is the stock working FM radio and a clean rom to flash with. I can go with standard features from there.
ok... so I DLed and tried a new zealand rom... OEM lock on, lets do this. nervous as hell
only Downloaded the AP portion like the old days... I think I tried the bootloader.... no I didn't I didn't load it.
it was a successful flash... but it hung. "could not mount misc, could not verify" when I went to boot it up.
wipe cache, wipe partion, run system update...
and....it boots up UK/New Zealand Rom
FM radio is there a working.... choopy to start I'll test it.
phone and internet work.... same modem keep in mind, now it shows 4G instead of LTE. I wonder if the speeds are the same....
all clear so far I'll test alittle more. looks like it is indeed exactly the same hardware, and the fm radio is software blocked on the canada model. Samsung Pay and secure folder won't work... yet I never rooted.
........
custom binary blocked by frp lock
after logging in with google account and turning off
this sucks. I gotta turn this one in as soon as I recover it... too much hastle to get one thing going- its so much easier to mess around with older phones and they aren't that much worse in preference....
does anyone have a 520w rom for fast download?

There you go: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-a5/SM-A520W/
thanks I mannaged to DL from https://samsung-firmware.org/ payed extra for faster DLs.
I flashed back to XAC 520W model back to normal. it no longer shows LTE but instead 4G... reception works with my carrier though. tried coloning the fm radio with cloning APK... didn't work. wanted to try Sprit2... wasn't sucessful to flash. boatloader locked couldn't flash that...
but I did manage to flash a UK stock rom.
here are some pictures for reference.
its possible... I messed up my phones software a bit (battery shows twice) I think my first problem was flashing a firmwire that was ahead in security update as the canada one as of this post is behind...
so FM radio works... yet it sounds choppy. I go to a local mall to test a 520X (demo model) running marshmallow and the reception on that one is way better- make no mistake 520W Canada users are getting screwed- I'm running the UK firmware and its working as it should. Nextradio still doesn't work.
now.... can I get Samsung pay and secure folder to work again? I don't believe in the "efuse" hype. software always has a way to reset. even still I'm sure these apps can work with tripped knox... but how? is their a way?
sadly I don't see as much community support on galaxy A models vs galaxy S
as you can see I'm ambitious to get this to work... messed up the phones PDA part a bit to make it happen. I hope there will be cleaner ways and tie ins to 520W and 520F software considering this is the very same damn phone (unlike galaxy S models which change snapdragon and exynos) and hopefully with Samsung new announcement to support FM radio on new phone recent phones from the past few years will see updates to FM radios.

WOW!
You need to believe in this because it is true.
I've come to Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 from Motorola X Play. The Moto bricked after I attempted to revert to Marshmallow using official OTA update after flashing MM (I wanted to try a few things and learn custom ROM building on an established device).
Why did it brick?
eFuse, my myopic friend....e..... fuse.

hey man... asking me to move on... your speaking to someone who still uses the galaxy s3 (i9300) as their DD... for 2 and some years... 3 years after the guy before me
A520W FM Radio
I found a solution here if you're phone is rooted:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...apps-and-mods/fm-radio-sm-a530w-t3883199/amp/
Sorry in advance if this is common knowledge. Semi-noob. I searched forums far and wide for past 3 days for this info.
Device: Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge SM-G935T (Snapdragon)
I have the latest Samsung/T-Mobile firmware installed (July 2019 update) with Binary 10.
In a nutshell:
From what I have gathered, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (T-Mobile) has a locked boot loader, which means that it CANNOT be rooted or modded (at this time). Is this entirely correct?
In detail:
I switched my phone service from T-Mobile to Safelink with the same phone and ported phone number. The warranty is expired, and I accept the risks. I want to get rid of T-Mobile bloatware on my unrooted device, and even install custom ROMs so that I can experiment with the possibility of better WiFi signal strength and other fun stuff. My phone is great, but it does not run as smoothly or fast as I would like it to.
Tutorial after tutorial has resulted in dead ends (SW Check Fail using Odin and download mode, Heimdall, etc.). The main issue seems to be that the binaries cannot be older than what I currently have installed, and I have the latest one, Binary 10.
It is my understanding that this cannot be navigated, unless I get off my butt and figure out how to exploit it myself. Is this correct?
If not, is there any way to get around this locked boot loader issue with the SM-G935T having the latest stock firmware (Binary 10)?
You guys rock.

I swear to god I've been strugling for solid 1 hour just to find a proper firmware binary 10 just like you. But it seems like worthless. If you find anything please help me *sob*
did you find the solution yet? cz am in the same situation right now, my phone is running on the latest binary 10 like you said...
