First time posting here. I've had the G5 since the first week of April. Just received the Cam Plus Module last weekend and noticed the battery life has improved tremendously when I'm in a location where there is a strong Signal (T-Mobile). I also noticed the phone charging while not attached to a Charging adapter. The phone has been off the charger since 7 am (EST) and is at 90 Percent 3 and a half hours later. Some emailing, web browsing, and Google Fit running in the background with the Fit Widget updating.
Has anyone with a a Cam Plus Module notice this as well?
The cam plus has a battery inside it and will charge your internal battery up. This gives the user more battery time to video and what not. It's the expected behavior.

I used mine the other day when I went out and about filming, taking pictures, etc. It's great and the hump isn't even that bad. I personally am a big fan of the modular design.

Thanks, I figured that had to be the case. 5 hours into my day yesterday, browsing, checking email, texting, and it was still at 91%.
Although I have a case for the phone, I like the hump the Cam Plus provides. I have a better grip of the phone while using it with one hand.

Just in case anyone wanted to know, the 3500 mAh batteries that work for Droid X also work for Droid X2 (although most websites that sell these batteries never really make that claim for some reason).
I was using this battery on my DX and loved it. Unfortunately I went swimming and forgot I had my phone with me. Luckily, Asurion sent me a DX2 as a replacement but I was worried the extended battery wouldn't work (as it turns out, the water also killed the battery).
I took a chance and bought a 3500 mAh battery off ebay for about $19.95 and it worked perfectly.
I still have issues with getting a correct battery reading (the phone always thinks the battery is dead by the end of the day when in fact I still have ~40% left) but I just ignore it.
I use my phone HEAVILY - My day starts at 3am and go to bed around 9-9:30pm. I'm constantly web surfing, using facebook, email, weather (every app constantly "pushing" data or refreshing every hour), automatic brightness on, about 2-3 hours of streaming music, play Words with Friends, ZDefense and other battery hogging games, and STILL have plenty of battery left to last me all day.
Yes, this battery if physically HUGE but to me it's totally worth it.
SO in case anyone was interested in using one of these monsters, just know the DO work for the DX2
Hope it helps.
Thanks for the info i had 3500 mah,ill try to look for it for my dx2.
Question
Hey,
Could the phone be re-calibrated so that it properly reads the battery level?
I understand that there is a method to recalibrate batteries, but with this battery being so much larger would it still work?
Also what rom are you using with the phone?
Thanks!
Ed
If anyone finds this battery I'm curious to how big it is. Please post a link.
If recalibration does not do the trick then there must be some code in the software that tells the phone how much capacity to expect.

Here is a link to the motorola forums where some guy has the 3500 mAh Gorilla Gadgets battery and has 2 pictures to show you:
https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/383083
I used to have this exact battery on my DX but it died after I took a dive in the pool. Like I said before, it definitely adds some heft to the phone but I really like it. It makes it more sturdy in my hand. By the way, I don't use a case of any kind.
Since then I just went on ebay and bought the exact battery (minus the Gorilla Gadgets casing) for about 10 bucks less. Works exactly the same. I just searched for "3500 mah battery droid x" on ebay and then did my research as far as a reputable seller is concerned. Once I found someone I could trust, I bought it. It's been working great for about a month now.

I have not been able to recalibrate this battery using any method. I would love for someone to get one and figure it out. I'm with you, though - I'm hoping there is some code on the software that tells the phone the battery capacity.

I'm not using any ROMs of any kind but if I remember correctly, ROMs on the DX did calibrate the battery correctly. Not 100% sure on that, though.
Wow, thats a huge battery. What about a cover for it?
Just curious if anyone else is seeing battery life cut in half since the Kit Kat update? I was getting two full days on a charge before and now im getting less than a full day. At first it did an upgrade to my existing ICS which I thought may be a contributing factor but after a hard reset battery life is still poor.
My batt usage meter says that 77% of my juice is being used by the OS.
I've only been using it since this morning, so I'll follow up in a day or two, but battery life seems to be improved for me. For last few hours its been sipping battery; used about 8% in 2 hours with a lot of texting and browsing.

I always found that with each update it seemed to get worse. But on a custom rom it's amazing.

I am pure stock and the battery life after the update has been about the same for me over the last three days.

Also, if you use Google Location Services they will wake up the phone hundreds of times per day, turn on GPS for minutes etc. Very bad for battery life on our phone (that has a relatively small battery). You can disable this in settings, location, mode, and set it to Device Sensors (ie GPS). This means Wi-Fi based location no longer works, but you get better stand by battery life. Needless to say, I am upset with Google about this decision to link their location services with such aggressive mandatory location reporting.

Must say I am very disappointed with the battery life of this phone. Gonna hate myself with what am gonna say but thinking to send it back and get the z5. Does anyone have any tips on how to extend the battery life? Only had the phone few days now so don't know if that works and need to let it settle but so far nothing is working out.
I have killer battery life using my mophie case....It's a phone case and extra battery in one. So sweet.

I have to admit I'm really quite dissapointed with the battery life too.
I nearly kicked myself when the Z5 came out as I should of waited and got that instead.
This S6 is laggy, freezes too often and even with the fast charger it might as well be a land line it's pulled in that often.
I am surprised actually. Not noticed much difference in battery of s6 edge vs my old Z3. If anything, its minimal to me.
S6 has a good battery life for what it houses under the hood. It could have been worse like the G4

I'm on pie and haven't noticed any battery issues so far.
But i did factory reset my phone before I upgraded to pie.
So if your experiencing battery issues you'll might want to factory reset your phone. Backup first though!
Or you have a bad app draining your battery.
I am also on official Pie and it does seem like my battery life might be a little worse than it was on beta 1. My battery life was outstanding on beta 1, where I did a "dirty flash" from Oreo. Doing a factory reset before flashing official Pie, it does seem a little bit worse, but still well within in the realm of being manageable.
Sprint note 8 n950u when did you guys get your updates? I'm on the drl7 from firmware science.

Mine is SM-N950F so we got the official pie sometime in Feb/March.
I just put a new battery in mine as I always do around the 2 year mark. Previous to the pie update my battery would last 10hrs easy. Now it's pretty ****, I find myself recharging the phone at lunchtime.
But otherwise everything else is smooth and fast.

I am in the same boat as the battery is performing poorly in recent times. I have two questions for you
1. Where did you buy your battery from? I don't trust Amazon ones, I don't think they're reliable enough and are mostly fakes.
2. How did you install the battery since Note 8 doesn't have removable back panel? You took it to a service center?
Thanks,

First time ever that I didn't do it myself, I just put it in to have a new screen, frame and battery, charge port replaced so it's like a new phone again.
I normally do it all myself and just buy a decent or own Samsung battery but I didn't have the time.
---------- Post added at 06:33 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:29 AM ----------
Also, I use it with my gear watch so bluetooth and 4g is running the whole time and I'm getting half the battery life I was with oreo with the same setup. I personally think the adaptive battery is garbage doing nothing just an smoke and mirrors.
Having it on medium power save it says gives extra battery life but actually timing it..... It doesn't.

FWIW after performing the latest update this week, I noticed yesterday that my battery performance seemed improved. Obviously it's early days, but perhaps something has changed in the April releases that has improved battery consumption?
I only just received the March security update so ok, looking forward to a change
I'm in the US on Verizon. My battery life has decreased, but not in a significant way that makes me feel that something is really, really wrong. For what it's worth, I never did a factory reset.

I received the April security update yesterday, you're right the battery is better.
I don't like the update
My battery life is pretty terrible at the moment, I also had to turn a setting off in the battery options to get it to charge above 75%. Anyone having battery problems? I am thinking the battery might need a good calibration.

Mine seems fine as well. Ran all day yesterday under heavy usage, and was at 40% at 2am when i went to sleep. So far I've been running all day today under moderate usage, and am at 77% (~11pm)
seems pretty good so far, if you use the dual screen you will see decreased battery life..been two days since I got it and it is still in the "analyzing usage" mode for determining battery life. but a normal days of Microsoft teams chats since we are working remote, and moderate use of the mail and web browser with some (15%) dual screen usage was only down to 65% at the end of the day yesterday. Probably will take a week while is adjusts itself and we can see true battery life. Have not seen any way of getting an additional dongle for the dual case charging, just one is supplied in the dual screen box..
Well, it isn't like there is some foolish electron sucking device (like a 120 Hz screen) in it.

Did you set up the phone from scratch or use some switch app like lg switch? I had to reset mine to fix app instability and battery issues due to the restore.

How is the total usage 16h 29m with over 6brs SOT, but the phone was idle for 16h 30m? Does the idle just refer to radios?

If that's the case, that means the phone was partially charged during a 23h period, meaning these are not accurate battery statistics. No biggie, I'm just trying to get an accurate idea of how long the battery lasts

It wasn't. That was off of the first overnight charge after getting the phone. I was at work the whole day and didn't put it back on the charger until I went to bed last night. I'm getting similar results today.

K thanks. I must not be interpreting that stats correctly. I think the 16h 30m idle must be referring to the LTE radio. Otherwise the numbers don't add up. Were you on WiFi this whole time? I know I am since we are locked down ?

I am assuming the same thing. I'm also just amazed by the battery life because I've been using Galaxy phones for the last few years and I have always had terrible battery life. It seems that the reporting in this phone is rather vague as well. I'm going to use a different app to track usage

It was mostly wifi, but with some spats of LTE

My phone idle stat nearly matches the time since a full 100% charge was completed. Bad name for the stat if you ask me.

If I reinstall from scratch, is there a way to restore settings, emails, and messages from my previous phone?
