Have couple question about the apps supported by Gear S? If anyone has played hands-on in AT&T store or is planning too.... would appreciate some insight.
Essentially, will Gear S allow apps install from the Play Store, or we at the mercy of Samsung to decide what I can and cannot do, when I'm away from the phone?
Also, is Gear Manager just a routing/notification type software, and truly we can install anything on Gear S (whether thru playstore or side apk load), and when the smartwatch is far away (not in bluetooth range) from the phone... Gear Manager directs the AT&T tower to route the appropriate data to smartwatch.. as long as the app was installed on both smartwatch and smartphone?
Based on that AT&T fineprint pic... it seems, it will allow SMS/MMS/call and also email... does it mean I can install corporate email client from play store? and will it still work? Also, not sure about other apps.
If anyone has seen in the store... do you see the play store icon, or in settings option "to allow install from unknown sources"? Thanks in advance.
I did go to the AT&T store but the Gear S shut off.
I dont think you can install from the play store since its running Tizen OS not Android.
Thats all i now waiting for more info from Samsung.
That is a good question: is there a Tizen play store?
i to have same question as i m also planing to buy gear s ,.,. i want to have a calculator app as i did not see any sign's of having calc in it ,.,.
but i dont think that we'll have any authority to install any other app. and if this is the case than how good is moto 360 as it is an android watch ??
Is there a Tizen app store?
yes there is. You use your samsung phone to access it and then push the apps to your watch

Even though the watch has an Internet capacity?
Well this one might. I just know with the other samsung watches you have to use your phone to push the apps to it even though those have wifi on them.
Here`s a link to some Gear S apps.

You're using the wrong tool set. This watch is not android, it's tizen.
1) You don't install APKs on the watch, you install .wgt files or you install APKs on your phone and then if it's a combo app it installs the .wgt
2) to install wgts manually on the watch you need the Tizen SDK and IDE. This will come with an "sdb" tool.

They are generally combo apps. The android app on the phone is and apk which installs a wgt file to the watch. But everything that run on the watch is a tizen wgt.
i dont really get it, as i checked some post about gear 2..also can install some apps on the watch thru adb directly, so i thought gear s which is similar...
if so, could u pls tell me how to install like whatsapp, facebook on the gear s, not just display the notification. its because the watch itself can be stand alone without phone, but if not connect with bluetooth, no other function, except phone call or sms....a bit useless!
thanks.

you can't install those apps, they are android apps. There are no app for those for the gear s. Any post you saw saying you could install APK(or any android app) on the Gear 2 was lying. You can install some app on the original Gear because it was android, but the Gear 2 and gear S are both Tizen.
you can "sdb" certain wgt files to you watch manually, but that's extremely limited because most wgt files need to be signed and authorized by Samsung, which means they have accompanying android apps to go with them.
Anyway basically you are limited to what is in the Gear App Store, unless you start writing your own.
If you need to run android apps on a phone, then about your only options are the Original Gear(Make sure you get one not updated to Tizen), or the Sony SmartWatch 2
thanks...
then is there any tutorial how to make the apk to wgt, and how to install on gear s???

You Can't. Think it like asking how to run a windows app on your android phone. The two can talk together, but they are COMPLETELY different application technologies. An Android App can communicate with a Tizen app, but you can not run or convert Android apps to run on Tizen. The application needs to be written specifically for Tizen.
The only apps you can install on the watch alone are .tpk

gear s doesn't support .tpk either. you cant develop native for gear. Only .wgt files

Hm ... that seems like a temporary issue though ... until root is achieved, right?

I haven't paid that much attention to root on the gear 2, but I don't think that having root has enabled installation of tizen native apps. My guess is the support frameworks and services are not there.
is possible somewhere download wgt files, that non samsung users can install them on watch?
moste of Samsung apps are paid. how can I download it for free

Hi Guys I just bought a second hand Gear S. When I got it, it had a load of programs on it, including Whatsapp Facebook Gmail Cerberus etc..
As agreed with the seller I reset the phone to factory default, and now I cant get any of these icons or programs back on. I read your posts with interest, especially the one that says it can't be done. Has anyone worked out how to do it yet?
any help would be gratefully received.
Thank you for taking the time to read this

Hello
I can't find the milk radio and bmw I remote apps in gear s store
I am from Europe but I have made a USA Samsung account
Anyone can help?
Thanks
I don't know if this will work but it's worth trying. In your settings (on phone) turn on allow mock locations. On the play store download a gps spoof app and set location to USA and see if it will show up then

thanks for the answer but it didnt work
Europeans don't get Milk music, etc
It really doesn't matter if you made US account for Samsung devices. As long you are having European device with European Sim card you can NOT access American app store for Samsung. Unfortunately You just can't work around it as easy as Google PLAY.
I wonder if it would work if the milk apk for the phone and watch were manually installed? I would be clueless on how to do it on the watch

I have installed milk music in my phone
in the watch isn't possible without accessing the gear store
Also I am not using a SIM card I tether the watch to the phone
Does somebody know if there are tizen apps to download and manually install in the phone?
Reposting this in a separate new thread after also posting in the sticky tutorial for others searching on google how to get the Pixel to work with the Gear S.
"I have a Pixel XL and tried to use the above steps to connect my Gear S to the phone.
When I try to install "Samsung Gear_com.samsung.android.app.watchmanager_2.2.14100299_2114100299" the phone says it is corrupt and cannot be installed.
When the gear manager is launched, it cannot find the watch at all. But using the regular bluetooth connection method from androids bluetooth settings does allow me to connect it to the phone. But manager still does not detect/activate the watch...
Please help! I have gotten way too used to the watch to get along without it..."
I was able to download and install gear manager from play store without any issues. Still doesn't connect to my gear s though. Says it can't find, even when I reset the watch. I need help to. Don't want to return my pixel, but love my gear s

The Gear Manager which you downloaded from Play Store does not connect to Gear S. It only works with Gear S2. This has been confirmed by Samsung that Gear S can only connect to a Samsung phone. Currently I'm using a spare Galaxy Note 3 to synchronise with Gear S for S Health tracking.

Tested on my xperia Z5C and not see also works with my Fit2. So we must wait for an update ....
I am going through the same issue, and after spending eternity with high level techs on the phone and in person at a Samsung store, I found that the answer lies in the Gear S. The last firmware update for the watch was early this year, and the watch itself cannot communicate with Nougat. Even though Gear Manager will communicate with Nougat. Right now we are at the mercy of Samsung to update the Firmware for a 3 year old device, that has been replaced by 2 generations...
Hallo,
i have a Samsung Galaxy S4 with Cyanogenmod 13. Now I have a new Samsung Gear Fit 2 and I want to install Open Fit.
I search in bluetooth the GearFit2 and found it, pairing it.
The I install OPenFit from Google Playstore.
The device will be found, But OpenIt can not connect to the GEarFit2.
Error message "connection failed" (in German "Verbindung fehlgeschlagen" )
What should I do now?
The Samsung Gear Manager work, but not very goog. I always get the message "Gear manager is stopped".
Any ideas?
Thanks
Roland
Same here just a note 2 cm 11 or 12..

How is the solution?
Gear Fit2 works on any phone with original Samsung apps, so no need to search alternate Fit manager
Install Gear Manager from the store + the Gear Fit2 plug-in
I use my Fit2 with my Sony xPeria Z5C.
If you are running a custom rom that labels your phone as an international version it will not work. My wife is using the note 2 but the rom is making it seem to the gear app that it's int'l.

I have installed the Samsung Gear Manager with the plgin in for Gear Fit2, but this works not so good:
Always the message "Samsung gear App stopped"
I have a Samsung mobile phone, but no Ssmung App on it, only Samsung Gear Manager with plugin.
