play store no connection, yes ik - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So recently I rooted my phone and after about a day the play store and basically all google related apps started to give the connection error. Does this on wifi and 3G connection.
I have used numerous file explorers, root explorer, ES and FX explorers. Everytime I try to edit the hosts file it either says failed or that it is mounted as r/o instead of r/w. When I try to mount it as r/w it says permission denied. Same goes for deleting the hosts file, it just fails.
I dont know what to do beyond this point, its just really frustrating to not be able to use youtube/playstore etc.
Any and all help is appreciated.

[Q] root access with ES File Explorer?

Will someone please help me get root access with ES File Explorer?
I was looking for a good file explorer utility with a root explorer feature. I already had ES File Explorer installed and saw that it supposedly has a root explorer feature. Well, I've searched all through it and I must be missing something because I can't find any way to explore anything on my NT except for the sd card.
I've went into the settings, down to the Root settings and checked Root Explorer and Mount File System but this hasn't seemed to help. I see no way to "get to" the root directory. If I try using the up arrow to move up a level in the directory tree, I can't get up any further than the sd card. It just say press again to close.
What am I missing?
Thanks to anyone that may be able to help get to where I want to be.

In settings, and you need to set home directory as "/". Then you'll have access to the entire file system.
What tgraves said as I have complete access to my nook with Es File explorer.
duh! That was so easy. Now I really feel like an idiot.
I think my wife is right. Sometimes I can make even the simplest things seem soooo hard...
Thanks for your help guys.

Not a problem
I wanted to say thanks as well as I was wondering the same thing today, didn't think it would be so simple as just changing the home
ES File Explorer Root
Good tip.
Thanks
don't worry... this was a great thread to start because i just found it with google and was looking for this answer also!
whoot!
Tell your wife she's always right
Trust me...
If you don't want to change your home directory to '/', you hit favorites and hit the icon that looks like a phone. That should take you to '/'. I think that's what the icon looked like. Anyways it's in the favorites menu.

I had been looking for the exact same thing. Thanks for your help.
I have the little phone icon so I assume I'm in the root directory. Next question - since this is where the additional 12 GB of space is, is there a "best place" to put my files that I don't want to tote around on my sd card? We're talking music, docs, etc.
Also - Is there a method so I can see "/" when connected to my laptop? Would rather move files directly to the root directory than have to copy to sd card then copy/paste to "/"
I find root explorer to be better.

in the setting, tick all the boxes for "root settings" then from the "/" directory, you will be able to access the internal storage and others ( sd, 1gb space allowance)
What I meant was, is there any specific folder under "/" that I should put my own stuff in, or maybe create a new one?
B&N put all the reserved free space in '/data'. See this thread for workarounds. Accessing it via USB is another story, so you'll probably need to copy files to the 1gb partition then move it. Another option would be to use Wifi File Manager. Depending on the speeds you get via USB it may not be a bad alternative.
When using ES File Explorer to move music files from /data to /data/media it says "invalid path." When I tried moving it to a new folder I created under /data, it also failed.
Questions:
1. Is every folder under /data locked away from access thru ES File Explorer?
2. Is my only option to store content directly under /data?
Root the Access.
hi..
I have ES File Explorer installed and i want to install other font(.ttf). but when try to copy from sdcard and paste in '/system/font' folder, it shows an error : copy failed.
In Setting --> Root Setting, only first two options are enabled 1) Root Explorer and 2) Up to Root. other two 3) Mount File System and 4) Backup System Apps are disabled.
Also, when I try to check 1st one Root Explorer, it shows an error:
When 'SU Request' dialog popup, please select 'always allow'
can any one help me to install font in my android device?
Thanks<script type=
i cannot erase any file with any root explorer

Have you enabled Root Explorer's "Mount R/W"?

[Q] Es File Explorer - Superuser Permissions

Hey Xda,
I have es file explorer installed on my Rezound. I have used the "root explorer" once and allowed it to have root access for that time only. Now every time I open the app, it asks me if i want to grant it super user permissions. If I deny it permissions, it asks me again. I have scoured the internet looking for a solution but cant seem to find one. I have only been able to solve the problem by uninstalling the app and reinstalling it. I cant seem to find any info on the devs either, so I cant report a problem back to them. Please help.

Are we talking about Root Explorer or ES File Explorer, they are two different apps.
When you giving it allow always or allow one time access when it asks?
I think you have to go back into ES settings and uncheck the root explorer box.

google play store and internet speed fix(2 in one)

hi there:
i know sometimes googleplay store won't download or slow download or connection timeout(retry connect).
or sometimes you see your download speed too slow.
try my method i wish it will fix your problems:
first you should be rooted:
for google play fix ...you will need es file explorer(search in google if you don't have it).
open es file explorer >>press on menu key(option key in your phone)>>click on tools>>root explorer>>
mount r/w>>make (/) and /system >>>r/w.
then go to system directory>etc folder>there is file called hosts>>delete this file.(using es file explorer).
then on es file explorer >press on menu key(option key in your phone)>>click on tools>>root explorer>>
mount r/w>>make (/) and /system >>>r/o.(to protect system and prevent malware to enter system).
by this you will fix google play problem.
for internet speed fixyou don't need root):
from play store download and install :wifi settings (dns,ip,gateway).
then open it click on current dns and select open dns home .
after that click applay.
you are done.
i make this and worked for me(on galaxy s4 verizon on 4.4.2).
Nice solution
I don't know how it fixed play store download issue but it did and previously I tried every thing to get rid of it but in vein. I was stuck for weeks thanks a lot man.

[L9 II] SOLVED No apps can access the sdcard, not even the stock LG ones or mtp

Today i tried clearing the spotify cache and somehow it managed to break my sdcard. I tried deleting the cache folder myself but i couldnt do so. After rebooting i cant modify ANY sdcard file or folder. Not even via MTP. The camera app doesnt save the pictures, the file manager says failed. Please don't link me the SDFix. I don't want it. It worked just fine even without it so i don't understand where is the problem? The catlog is below. Honestly this happened before when i tried to use an app like foldermount.
Edit: Something made the external_SD read-only instead of r/w . The fix is relatively easy if you have root (well i don't think you can get into this situation without root):
Just download ES File Explorer then drag the menu from left and tap on root explorer (not the on/off button) and then Mount r/w and tap on the RW dot next to /mnt/media_rw/external_SD and tap OK

Unable to open files from a network share, using ES Explorer Pro

Any time I try to open a text file, or other files such as cbr's, I get gerror messages that the file can't be found locally. Or when I try to install apps from apk's, I get an error that the file failed to copy. I'm not sure why this is, as I have never had these issues with ES Explorer Pro on any other devices. Usually I just tap the file I want to open, it caches locally and then opens. With the Mediapad I have to copy the files over to the tablet before I can use them. Which can take a long time if it requires several files.
Is there anything I can do to fix this, by changing permissions or whatever?
The same use case works fine for me but with FX File Explorer. Which is, imo, way better than ES. ES started fine, it was one of the first but went to the wrong direction, becoming over bloaded.
