Hardware buttons are getting weaker - Redmi Note 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, it's been five months since i bought redmi note 2, in recent days my hardware buttons especially power button is getting weaker and weaker.. I don't know where it's going to end... Anyone else having this problem?? If anyone having this problem, how to solve this!? Is there a way to replace it...!!!

Same here?.
Maybe is the back cover, but I can't buy another one to try.
Sent from my Redmi Note 2 using Tapatalk

Use volume rockers to wake, plus, change the cover. I have bought one on eBay for 5$ .
Sent from my Redmi Note 2 using Tapatalk

@cukierkas The problem with use volume rockers is that, if you use headphones with volume control, the screen will turn on when you use the buttons on the headphone
Sent from my Redmi Note 2 using Tapatalk

I am using Gravity Screen and quick reboot. I almost never press the power button unless the device hang.
Sent from my Redmi Note 2 using Tapatalk

Also, you can use Nova launcher to turn of screen with double tap. Or if you have MIUI, you can use the widget to lock the device

No, you're wrong. The screen remains off, but there is the permanent wakelock of proximity sensor. It always on to have always screen ready whenever you're taking your phone outta pocket.

You can buy a replacement power/volume switch strip on Aliexpress for pretty cheap. Check out the following:
http://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-redmi-note-2-power-button.html?SortType=price_asc
Nonetheless, a true double tap to wake/sleep would really be appreciated!!!

And here's a link to battery/back covers for the RN2 starting at < US$2.

Gravity screen use gyro sensor as main sensor but you can enable/disable proximity sensor as second sensor. About the wakelock you can monitor it using BetterBatteryStats and based on my usage the wakelock so insignificant because when my screen is off my device can deep sleep.
But I won't force you to use it because i have no any affiliate to the author of gravity screen.
Sent from my Redmi Note 2 using Tapatalk

Gyro sensor is used for function to keep screen on on the move. Proximity sensor usage depends on vendor's attitude make it workable. So on some devices its always on, on others depending on usage.
I'm using it, pro version.

Loss of pull down notification area

I had someone knock my phone out of my hand and it dropped and hit the floor. After putting the battery back in and restarting the phone, I found out that I could no longer swipe my finger down from the top of the screen to pull down my notification menu. I believe my screen is now out of calibration at the top and is not registering my touch. It does work in landscape mode. I reflashed my phone with latest version on ICS. Still not working, any ideas? Thanks
Sent from my GT-P5113 using Tapatalk 2
So the top of the screen doesn't work at all in portrait mode?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
It is on, but does no register any touch on the top quarter inch of the screen.
Sent from my GT-P5113 using Tapatalk 2
Hmm.... Odd that just that small of a section stopped working. Pushing harder doesn't do anything?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
No affect what so ever. I believe my screen has re-calibrated so the top section is out of the operating area. At least that is my thinking.
Sent from my GT-P5113 using Tapatalk 2
Hmm... I don't think it recalibrated. Maybe more like the digitizer was damaged.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
I guess I will call Verizon in the morning and see what they say about sending out a new one unless someone has an idea. Thanks for the help.
Sent from my GT-P5113 using Tapatalk 2
Weird because after I changed my digitizer, now I can't swipe up on the notification bar and the screen looks perfectly placed. Are you running ics? If you are, go to developer options and select show touches and look to see if it actually registers on that area of the screen.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA
It does not show me touching at the top. It stops registering about a quarter of an inch from the top.

call verizon but if there is no physical damage, don't tell them you dropped it.
If there is physical damage and you get them to send a warranty replacement, they might charge you for it.
I will call them today but do I need to get my phone back to factory software? I am running a leaked version of ICS. If I need to take it back to factory software, how do I go about it? My phone is not rooted.

[Q] red light near earpiece

Hey I just want to ask what this little red light that turns on when the screen is on, it's the one beside the earpiece on the right side.
This is on my mom's phone so I won't know what this is, hence the question

Touchwiz uses the proximity sensor doesn't it? AOSP roms do not. It doesn't light up on my S3 with an AOSP rom.

What's funny is I have the exact opposite situation, I have all motion options disabled but occasionally see it, I can't remember when I see it and under what conditions so I'll post back when I have more useful info. It looks like an infrared light so I'm wondering if it might be able to take commands from another device.
Here are links to 2 other forums speaking about this issue:

Guys the question has already been answered in the 2nd post. Its the proximity sensor and it can light up on different occasions, such as during calls and possibly in text messages etc if you have direct call enabled.

We all read it thanks for pointing it out. We are talking about it's lighting up or not lighting up in what conditions.... NOT what it's supposed to do, do read the comments above urs.
He was referring th lordazoroth who believed it to be a infrared emitter/receiver.

Ok. Let me make it a bit clearer for you. When your in a dark environment, dial a number and it will turn on. If direct dial is also on, when you put it near your head, as it starts to dial remove it and you will also see it lit. Nothing more nothing less as far as I know. The reason most people don't notice it is because the light is very feint and on most occassions can't be seen.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Alright I have more information, I do not have direct calling enabled so when I'm texting the light does not turn on. However when I'm in the middle of a call, I'll see the little red dot light up faintly and the screen will turn off when my head gets close to it. Interestingly enough, there is a cone of detection coming from the light (or directly next to the light). When I move my finger within the cone of detection, projecting from the light, the screen will turn off. When my hand or head is close to the phone without blocking this cone of detection, the phones screen will not shut off. I would assume that due to how dark my testing conditions were (including the screen being nearly pitch black), this would appear to be an infrared detection system. Therefore it should serve any purposes in which proximity detection is needed, including direct calling and automatic screen control. If a program were written, I'm guessing this infrared sensor could be used for any number of things, including remote control and even data transfer.
Interestingly, my Nexus S 4g seems to have a very different detection system, there is no tiny red light nor is there a cone of detection projecting from the front. Instead when anything sizable comes near the top of the device (from the front, top, and/or back) the screen shuts off during a call, which indicates some type of field detection. I'm guessing these two devices have different proximity detection systems either for power conservation, cost of manufacture, or both.
Its proximity sensor. . . Don't worry its not causing any harm. and near to this is RGB sensor.

Thanks, i was thinking it would be easily visible but it's really faint light and visible under dark conditions only. My guess is it might be infrared light for the sensor. I used to have night vision option in video camera and could see bright light coming out of remote controls dont' know where i placed my old handy cam but if someone has it they can test it out and see if it emits IR light as well.

I really just need something that will change a state on the Tablet when my ignition starts. This will allow me to trigger a tasker event to power on screen and resume music/video playback

Does your pen jump around?

Ok so basically I never noticed it doing it but on the top left corner if I try to use airview it just clicks a lot. Also anywhere on the screen if the spen is just about to stop being seen by the phone (is verging on being too far) it'll freak out and click all over this is an issue because I tend to hold it at this height.

S4 and Valentine One Radar...

I just got my S4 and whenever im in my car and using the phone. My radar goes off. It shows there's a Laser nearby. I tried turning off all the extra stuff on the S4, but it still happens. Had no problem before with my Galaxy Nexus.
Anyone else having this problem??
its definitely one of the sensors tripping the detector maybe?
i have an escort 9500ix and i dont have any problems with it setting it off.

To test you phone infa red sensor. You can use any camera and hold it over the sensors. If it's going off you can see the sensor on the camera. You can also test it to see if it's working this way too.

Mine is still doing it, the sensor to the left of the camera is causing it. If i place my finger over it. It stops setting off my V1.
