Z3v GPS - Xperia Z3v General

Has anyone else noticed frequent GPS issues with the new 5.1.1 update? My D6708 either sees GPS satellites and can't triangulate, or it can't see any. I've reset the agps settings and tried all of the GPS fix apps on the play store, but nothing has worked. Any suggestions?

Yes, have noticed it since the update, both of our phones do it, only thing we have done to get it to work is restart the phone, will work for a while then stop again.

I've noticed it happen even after I restart the phone several times. I just downgraded back to kitkat, so hopefully that fixes the problem until Sony or the community releases a patch.

I don't think reverting back to KitKat will be with the trouble. 5.1.1 is the possibly the latest and only thing the Z3v will ever get.

Yeah don't see MM coming or any other patches from VZW or Sony.
I am just killing time with this phone (Z3v) until all the accessories get here so I can start using my BB Priv.

I also noticed this recently. It was the first time I had really used GPS since the latest update. I thought it might be related to having to reattach the back cover due to separation but now it appears it's a more general issue.

I reverted back to kitkat, and I'm still having issues with the GPS. I'm pretty sure that the problem is hardware related, so I'm going to have to just wait until my Verizon contract is up. I've read a few articles online with the GPS issues of the Z3 models in general. I'm thinking that it might have just been one of the areas they cut corners on. If anyone has a fix in mind, I'm open to try anything at this point.

Hey all,
As some of you have already noted, an update is available for the Samsung Galaxy SII.
The update includes fixes for devices that may become unresponsive and/or power down while sitting idle on rare occasions. It also enhances security to protect against malware vulnerability. You will receive a notification on your phone to update.
NOTE - You must have updated to Android version 4.0 to receive notification of the new software update

What a complete waste. Sprint just pushed 4.1.2 to their gs2.

Had my hopes up for JB even though I know the phone will not get it from AT&T.
I guess it is good that they are still trying to improve the phone.

There's at least as much cya and marketing motivation involved as anything else.
I previously rooted and flashed Siyah 4.3.3 which resolved my issue with the sleep of death. This seems to prevent this new update from installing as when the phone reboots it shows the Siyah boot image and then boots back into the OS, when I unlock the phone it tells me that the update failed to install. I'm not in a hurry to install an update that resolves something I've fixed through other means, but I thought I'd share for those interested.

Hopefully it fixes the SOD problem. I was getting ready to call or go to AT&T and demand I be let out of my contract.

This has been happening to me for the past few months, on more than "rare occassions" though. I never knew what to call it until I saw people on here refer to it as Sleep of Death. Yep, sounds about right. And it would rapidly drain my battery when it happened.
I've successfully updated, so hopefully this will take care of it. It gets VERY annoying! And all the much worse since I use my phone for my alarm, haha. I have my wife's as a backup though.
Anyone pull the modem yet?

I'm only a curious now, about whether this fixes the SOD. After hours on the phone with ATT and Samsung, and a few factory resets and a new phone, it was still doing it. And each time I called them about it, they'd say they were not aware of such a problem. Anyway, not an issue anymore for me, since going to Task's AOKP ROM, which got me so many better features than an ATT update ever would have - warranty or no.
The only reason why this OTA was pushed was because a ton of users were posting this issue on the ATT forums for 4 months straight. Even then ATT pushes an OTA for 4.0.4 instead of using one of the many 4.1.2 firmwares from Samsung.

My understanding is that it is up to Samsung to produce the firmware, and because it's a carrier-branded device, I have a hard time believing that they'd do that unless instructed to.
Really? You think Samsung is the one making the decision? Its really the carrier.
Can someone pull the modem from this update? Pm or post a download link once extracted please.

GSM/CDMA... Not even sure what to put on the subject line.

So I just wanted to share something really weird and ask if anyone has ever seen anything like it before.
I recently flashed the last AOKP update, and my phone was running phenomenally. I went out last night and my battery died because I forgot to charge it... No biggie. Got home, turned it on, no signal. Odd, since I have pretty decent service in the area. After doing the usual troubleshooting of cycling airplane mode, I tried pulling the battery and sim. That also didn't work. I went into settings to check my APNs, and instead of the usual menu, I saw only 4 options. The option to select APNs wasn't even there. The last one said "Set CDMA..." something. I forget the rest. Wish I had remembered to take a screenshot. In "About Phone", my baseband was blank. Tried reflashing back to LC5 radio. Still nothing. Did a full wipe and reflash of the ROM, and that got me back in business. Right now, all is well. I was just unaware that a phone could magically switch over to CDMA, even if there is no CDMA radio in an i777.
Any thoughts on the cause?
EDIT:
ROM: Task's AOKP 4.14
Kernel: Stock
Radio: UCLL6 when issue started. Now on UCPLC5
Not an issue that's related to the rom, as far as I know. Unless others have reported this issue and I've missed it. If you do a full wipe and re flash as you've done and don't install any programs for a good 24 to 48 hours, and nothing of the sort happens again, odds are it has something to do with an app you installed. Unless your service provider maybe was experiencing problems at the time.

No, definitely an anomaly. Not something that anyone else has reported. I called AT&T to verify if there were any issues in the area or with my account, and everything checked out. I haven't downloaded a new application in months. I restored from TiBu right after reflashing and everything is still good. Like I said, not trying to report it or anything; just looking for thoughts.
You meant APN and baseband NEVER come to live? If that's the case, then I haven't heard or read any report about it.
If it's up and running like normal AFTER 5 minutes, then it's has been reported many many times last week.

This is what I thought. I have a feeling that since AOKP is based of CM, there is code built in to support both CDMA and GSM. Somehow, the software glitched, and made the switch.

Marshmallow 6.0.1

Hey crew.
So I've searched high and low for information about the 6.0.1 update for Z5 (Compact). I've seen news pertaining to a global rollout for the Z2 and Z3 series, and have read that there was a plan for it to be released to Z5 series soon (these articles were back in early April). However, anything relevant for the 6.0.1 update on Z5 series has been vague information. I haven't found anything on the forums relating to this topic.
I was curious to see if anyone knew anything more about the 6.0.1 update for the Z5 series, or had sources to link to?
-----
Also, I'm curious to know what everyone's experience on 6.0 has been so far for Z5 compact. I've seen a lot of mixed reviews, mostly negative based on bugs and issues relating to Wifi, External Storage, Google Play Services crashing, etc. Then I've seen other posts saying these things have been fixed, while others are still waiting for a fix. So it's been a lot of conflicting information, and I've remained on Lollipop (on AT&T in the US). So are there fixes for these issues, and is it worth it to upgrade to Marshmallow in the meantime?
I've not had any issues that I can think of. 6.0 has run fine, however since I rooted I have had issues.
Firstly I have Wi-Fi issues. This may not be due to root but my phone definitely isn't as good at retaining a good connection. This occurs when I'm at university walking about and the phone is connectecting and disconnecting from different routers. I don't get any Wi-Fi issues at home though.
Secondly, I'm victim of the "Fingerprint hardware is not available" issue that you can find in another post. Many consider it's an issue with the dose function since it affects some Nexus devices. Mine seems to break daily, but I've given up using it for the mean time. This is the main issue I have and want 6.0.1 to fix.
And finally I've have random slow downs and non responsiveness here and there, but nothing too serious. Sometimes all but the nav keys go unresponsive, so I have to lock and unlock. But this is hardly an issue, just an annoyance.
I've also looked around for 6.0.1 info and websites are all vague and unreliable. I like the phone but it's in a constant state of "this needs to be fixed" which I fear won't be for another few months. Sony are pushing their X range right now so I'm afraid that the Z5 is already being neglected. However I think their lack of update may mean they're trying to get it right this time round. All we can do is hope and be patient.

Something must have changed, though. I didn't have this issue with the original firmware, my phone stayed connected to wifi with screen off. This changed with the update to M. I'm noticing this very obviously, because I hear the GSM or LTE signal noise via my unshielded monitors, which is annoying as hell, when my phone is just lying on the desk.
Do you, or someone else, know, if Sony acknowledged this bug? Because if they're not going to fix it, this will be a reason for me to switch the phone.

In case of the Z5 Compact, 32.1.A.1.163 was the first Marshmallow firmware released in early March. 32.1.A.1.185 rolled out a month or so later, apparently to fix bugs.
Personally, I haven't run into any issues with Wi-Fi or fingerprint reader in both Marshmallow firmwares. I'm happy with what I have, but 6.0.1 and a more up-to-date security patch wouldn't hurt

New update (To Me) pushed today.

EMUI 9 update

any reasons to update? I had a hell of a time unlocking the bootloader and rooting it. I would imagine it would be difficult to update.
I love the table as is...but of course wondering if i would like it even better on EMUI 9.
I like the update so far except for one thing I've noticed which is actually the reason I came to the message board. Ever since I updated I can't connect to any 5ghz WiFi networks.im hoping its a bug fixed in the next security patch. I read about the same thing happening to other Huawei phonesmbut it doesn't fixed. Other than that I noticed that apps load faster and the battery seems a bit better but that's about it. Anything you want me to check for you?

Same problem here. I have the 8" LTE model, unrooted and with locked bootloader. I was with stock EMUI 8 but I just updated to the official firmware sht-al09 9.0.1.161(c636e2r1p2) via eRecovery and now WiFi 5ghz does not work.
Also the dark mode from Android Pie is not available.
Another reason not to update is the bright background notifications bar. I cannot stand it and it seems not configurable. Instaling a dark theme does not help, it remains white.
