how to disable yellow flash ? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

phone has dual led flash, one white and one yellow which is very annoying. All pictures I am taking with flash are with yellow tint.
I could not find it in settings to disable it. is it bug ? can we fix it?

it's not a bug, it's called dual tone LED flash... it may take yellowish images but it prevent the Red-eye problem images which happens with White flash...
so don't worry this isn't any bug or unusual thing to have a yellow LED
I don't know whether there are any setting or way to disable any particular LED, there may be or not...!!

There would be a way to change it as in miui 7, you can test both the flashes seperately...

Yes, we can turn each LED separately from CIT menus, but there's no way to take photos with single LED. I've checked camera FV 5, open camera, miui camera, and google camera so far, and all these apps don't have the option to take photos with one LED.
That yellowish led sure annoys me most of the time, but it's camera is bad anyway, and I rarely take photos with it. Tbh, my old, now sold redmi 2 took better pictures.

The camera on redmi note 3 is the biggest flaw of this phone and the awkwardly warm flash makes the pics even worse..

Hey guys..
Set manual mode to daylight and that's it, now u can take photos with white flash..

@Ashifkashu Turn on manual controls if u are in MIUI(cam) use White Balance "incandescent light" and take pictures only white light flashes and no yellow tint it worked for me..... try it

there must be way through buil.prop, something like ro.media.capture.flash1=disable/0 (I dont know)
can anyone please suggest command ?

Actually there is a way to turn off the particular led just goto settings find kernel at the bottom tap around 4 to 5 times
Then you will be directed to QC test
There find and an option LED
in that you can turn off any of the both led
For details view this video on youtube
Just append this after the youtube website name or domain name
/watch?v=QOhYIxOI1FQ

I have done it in MI MAX
Go to camera and change mode to manual
Select white balance
And go to manual
And select a value between 3500 to 4000
It works for me....
Or
Selec fluorescent from white balance........
Thanks.......

i have redmi note 4. in that enabling torch mode by editing mido.xml (will have different name in note 3) in the folder /system/etc/device_features/.
In torch mode pictures taken does not have yellowish tinge even though both leds glows.

You can set MiUi cam to Manual mode, and then select white balance as "cloudy" then only white flash light will work at the time of taking pics.

You can using my script, run as root at terminal emulator:
echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/led:flash_1/max_brightness
echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/led:torch_1/max_brightness
echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/torch-light1/max_brightness
Or use init.d to run automatically..
Good luck.

Black displays are not completely off

Yesterday night I noticed that black pixels do not switch off completely on my phone. (as they should on AMOLED, right?)
Try it this way:
Set your screen brightness to almost a very low value.
Now look at a picture which has a black background and very little color in the middle etc. The room has to be dark, otherwise you wont see a difference. (You can also cover your had with a blanked etc., just wait a moment, so your eyes get used to the dark environment).
Hide the statusbar, navbar etc., so only your picture is shown (Tap on the picture once in Google Photos).
When you disable your lockscreen and switch the display on and off a few times you'll see that the picture vanishes first and than the display goes completely dark. It looks like a very light yellow back-light.
Another way:
Again in dark environment power off your phone. Switch it back on and watch the bootlogo. The surroundings (everything that's black) is truly black and "switched off" and than some secs before completing boot the "back-light" switches on.
I tried to find a solution for that. The only thing I found is a setting in Kernel Adiutor named "Minimum RGB value" under the screen section which is set to 35. However lowering it to 0 does not work, the value get reset to 35 every time (Higher value does not change anything either tho).
I'm running Oxygen OS 2.2.0 with bluespark kernel + root + xposed (Gravitybox + XInternalSD)
maybe the black is not that black?
edit: just tested with fullhd resolution black picture and red dot pixel in centre(PNG file, not jpg nor bmp) and everything is working as intended - black is pitchblack(same as when u just block/shutdown ur phone)
edit2: i'm not having my reflex by my side this couple of months, but you can check it making a photo in light isolated room with low shutter speed(20sec should be enough, if they really produce light)

Thank you for testing. I reproduced your result with a #000000 PNG and everything seems fine, as long as the brightness does not go below a certain value. Turning auto brightness off and sliding the brightness completely down enables some kind of light in the whole panel.
Could it be some android feature, which put's a light overlay over the the screen image to protect the eyes in low light environments, like these warm filter mods?

Slow Motion video problem

Hello, guys! I had a serious issue with the slow-mo video of the G5..The problem is that when i start recording and the colors are changing non-stop..
The colors goes like the warmth go down..Did anyone else have that problem and how to solve it? Any ideas?
Unfortunetly i can't show u the video i found in youtube witch is the same problem like mine...
It's due to the automatic white balance, try using manual camera mode (there are some threads in LG G5 Mods Section that explain how to enable manual video if you don't have a custom rom) and manually set white balance, resolution to 1280x720 and FPS to 120.

Yeah, this is a good idea, but it needs root and the phone is not rooted...other idea? Because really am wondering what are the good and the bad things into rooting the phone
Any kind of modification to system apps require root. You can use other apps that allow white balance for video, such as Cinema FV-5. Even though the profe$$ional version has much more controls for color grading, in free version you can manually set and lock the white balance. From the user manual:
On supported devices you can lock the automatic white balance algorithm.
Auto white balance lock.
If the white balance is set to auto, when the toggle is active, the automatic white balance algorithm will stop running, keeping the last calculated scene temperature. Tap again the toggle to unlock it and recalculate the scene color temperature.
Tip
If you usually record clips with the white balance locked, you might find more comfortable to have Cinema FV-5 to lock the white balance for you automatically during the clip recording. To do so, activate the option Settings > Video > Lock white balance during recording

I don't remember if that app can take slow motion videos though.

Yes, found it but any idea why I can't see effects like hearts, circles, swirl , etc... In portrait mode ?
There are 3 buttons in the lower part of the Portrait viewfinder. The first one(left) sets the type of bokeh. It's probably set to "None" in your case. Aperture mode is a separate mode/tab to the left

Yes, there are buttons but effects are not visible at all, with or without face detected. The new camera app is really crap...

Exactly that I meaned ... Effect not visible
Works well. Just select something other than "None"
Tried to remove the tired mug, but couldn't...
Those effects are based on lights behind you they won't just appear..
I have taken a few successfully, try to picture something in front of Christmas lights and see the magic
Yes, the shape chosen for the blur is more visible when applied to lights, but no Portrait bokeh can be seen when "None" is selected. Also, sometimes it forgets that setting and you have to enable it again

How To Guide How To Enable More screen color modes other than "Vivid & Natural" requires "adb" or with SETEDIT App from Play store

For all who are not satisfied by the colors of screen,
I passed by a post on Reddit that someone succeeded to enable 3 more different Display Colors modes other than "Vivid & Natural" via adb
There is 5 screen modes in total:
0 AMOLED cinema "DCI P3 color"
1 AMOLED Photo "Adobe RGB"
2 Basic
3 Natural
4 Vivid
Go to Settings -> Display -> Screen mode and
Set the screen mode to Natural otherwise this trick won't work
Connect your phone to adb on your PC and type
adb shell settings put system screen_mode_setting a number from 0 to 4
example:
adb shell settings put system screen_mode_setting 0
Last thing to do:
In order for the changes to update, open the settings, go to display and go to the Screen mode tab and go back.
Also there is a video step by step to enable it
Finally instead of adb you can use SETEDIT App from Play store to do the same
I wonder, if someone was able to find out what colour values/settings these other modes are using, we could replicate them using the advanced settings in display options, instead of going through ADB/SETEDIT?

Do you have a screenshot
Worked with SetEdit.
Straight forward
A way to make them appear on the menu itself would be nicer and easier.
Maybe these entries are in the Floating Feature file ?
This is in others methods, google play searching SetEdit and instal and opening.Searching:
screen_mode_setting
And see pictures.
I absolutely hate the dull, non vibrant and washed colors of the S23 Ultra. Funny no Youtube "experts" talk about it, it's only "it's gorgeous blah blah blah". I think I'm going to send it back. Already miss my S21 Ultra, too bad it had a pos Exynos chip. If only the S21 Ultra had a Snapdragon here in Europe I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

I compared a printed photo with what my phone shows (same Photopro TIFF file) and to my eyes the colors on the screen where similar to the print, I didn't see any dull colors and in Natural mode is what I expect, something near to reality.
The S23U display is pretty great, if you like extra saturared colors that has nothing to do with the real image, that is another story.

Question Issue with red showing as yellow in camera

I wanted to take picture of this software I use at work and to my surprise the red "button" is yellow on the picture from the ZF9. If the button is out of focus, the color of it is correct. I thought it could be something with the screen's filter making it look like that in all pictures, but my coworkers iphone took it correctly and back at home with an old S5 the colors are also correct.
More worrying is the fact that its the same with the GCam and every app with cam capture ability, so its just not a bug in the stock camera app.
Is it just my own ZF9? I will provide a screenshot of that software here, could someone use it to take picture of the "button" in their screen? This is a serious issue imo since the color is completely changed, its not just an inaccuracy.
This is not related to focus but white balance issue, in case there is a lot of black area white balance level starts to freak out.
Try to change white balance settings.
Or even not white balance - its auto EV correction issue. You can change it manually.
No wonder there is nothing like that for S5 if you are using flashlight.

Using the flash on the Z9 had the button yellow. I used the flash on the S5 because it was way out of focus without it (custom rom not stock)

I did try to change the exposure, but at the point where the red was actually the correct color, everything on the picture were very dark. I also tried to mess in the pro mode, changing the ISO and white balance but again to make the red actually look red and not yellow the picture was way too dark.
Imo the phone on auto should take the picture with the correct color. If the "darkness" from changing the exposure or ISO or WB is necessary (I am not a photographer) so be it. Still,I don't understand why it cant be bright, like the picture with the yellow button but with the correct colors.
