Google Play/ Android on Fire HD 6 - Fire HD 6 and 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've seen tutorials and things for installing cyanogen or google play on the Fire HD 7. What about the HD 6? My device is rooted with kingroot. Only problem is that trying to install google play does not work. I can search for things but I cannot install anything. It give me a communication error. I need help figuring out how to install google play properly and how to get it to work. Either that or how to install cyanogen onto my device. Again, this is a kindle fire hd 6 that I am working with. Please help

Fire HD 6 and 7 are the same. If you're running OS 5, follow step 7 here to install Gapps in TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd/general/root-os-5-1-2-kingroot-tools-play-store-t3371824. First uninstall any gapps you installed with other tutorials.
EDIT @Raxcental: You need OS 5.1.1 or higher.

I successfully solved the problems and now I have both nova launcher and Google apps working perfectly.

Kindle Fire HDX(3rd Generation) TWRP and CM13(or latest) installation

Hello Xda,
Please help me get clear instructions on how to install the custom recovery TWRP on the kindle fire HDX 3rd generation. I've tried many things to try. For example, i already installed a random fire adb driver on it but it still doesn't work. I've also tried the app safestrap(thor) and sucessfully rebooted into recovery, but could flash cm13 an gapps. It didn't even let me recover my backup. I am hoping to install specifically TWRP and not another app that may fail. After the custom recovery is installed how do you download any other operating system preferably cm13 or whatever the latest version is? Please tell me how to do that too. Need Help Fast, the anxiosness is killing me!!! Thanks
Confirmation
XDA,
Is it true that Kindle fire hdx OS 4.5.5 can only run cm11 with safestrap? I read that in another thread and just want to confirm it. If this is true than this is the answer to my previous question. Also how do I update the SuperSU binaries and possibly get pro? Thank you so much for your time and effort.

You can use CM11 for Safestrap v4, or the new Fire Nexus ROM currently under development.
You must NOT use CM12.1, CM13 or SlimLP - all require an unlocked bootloader and the real TWRP (i.e. NOT Safestrap!).

HD 6 4th generation (pw98vm) Fire OS 4.1.1

Hello!
I have a HD 6 4th generation (pw98vm) running Fire OS 4.1.1 i managed to obtain root, but was unable to get google play to work. I would like to use a vanilla ROM on this device for my wife (simple is better with her when it comes to tech) but am unsure which route would be best to follow. Any advice would be appreciated.

Follow instructions carefully ! Use 5.2.0 bootloaders!

new to hdx7 what are my first steps to getting rooted, google playstore, etc.

I'm not new to the scene, I've had my fair share with androids. Just new to hdx7, so what do I do?. This is the Amazon Kindle Fire C9R6QM HDX 7. I'm gonna use the KFHDX ToolKit v0.95 from what I've read is to disable OTA updates and run google play store. Should I completely flash to some stock android OS? Or can I keep it on the fire OS and it'll be stable? I don't want to go and brick this thing. It's running fire OS 4.5.5 which I read about and I guess is not useful? I saw a link to downgrade to 13.3.2.8, is that all I need? Just some quick help, thanks
Just to be clear all I want to do is install google playstore and disable OTA updates. What are the minimum steps I need to do this?
alright so I downgraded to 3.2.8 then -----> 3.5.2 is that ok? Or should I go back to 3.2.8?
I don't mind changing roms as long as I can make a backup and get to factory os

It is rather easy to unlock the bootloader which allows any HDX custom ROM to be installed. Is the device still on FireOS 3.2.8? If so I assume you have taken steps to maintain network isolation as the device WILL brick if an OTA update is received/processed. Post back current status; will go from there.

Google Play Services/Store does not play nice with FireOS v3 or v4. Strongly recommend unlocking the bootloader and replacing FireOS with the ROM of your choosing (from those available for HDX devices).

which rom do you recommend which is stable and vanilla looking? I'm used to nexus 5, 7 os. Also would I be able to save my current 3.2.1 OS and make a backup? So I would be able to return to stock if I wanted to?

There are two Nexus builds that are faithful representations of what you likely experienced on Google's Nexus devices. The KitKat varient (Fire Nexus ROM) is feature complete with full Bluetooth and LTE support. As with all custom ROMs for this device auxiliary radio support on Android 5+ becomes more challenging due to kernel compatibility issues. That said, all core ROMs are rock solid/stable and really unleash the full potential of this aging device which still competes well against contemporary counterparts.

- root with KingRoot
- unlock bootloader to allow installation of custom ROMs: https://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hdx/general/thor-4-5-5-2-easy-to-root-unlock-t3571240

Google properties don't play nice with FireOS v4. You can try and might have some luck. But happiness is usually short lived as minor changes in Google Play Services can trigger a crash. For most it is a frustrating experience that eventually leads to a custom ROM or abandoning the device.

Best to unlock bootloader and install a custom ROM (ie :'generic Android') that natively supports the Google Play Store. Google components/framework/store does not play nice on FireOS v4.
