T-Mobile rom to a clean LG rom. - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hey Guys.
So I'm about to get a new G5 from T-mobile.
I understand there are several roms out there for different versions of the device, am I right?
Is there anyway I could get rid of the official T-mobile rom and install instead the official/international LG one, something without all the garbage of a carrier and that will be future update directly by LG?
Will appreciate any leade
Thanks Guys!

Hello there, yes you should be able to depending on if you want to do the work or not.
You would have to root your device using the tot method and then get TWRP on it. After that find a rom that is clean or without bloatware to flash on your H830. No you cannot flash the international version of H850.

Thank you so much for your response.
Unlock the bootloader and root is the first thing I'll do.
So if I rather stay official and not using custom roms, there is no LG clean img I can flash?
Thanks again!

Hello again, you can always flash LG Stock Roms for H830, but just not for H850 on H830.
Use the ROM that's made for H830, you could try H850 but there might be some risks associated with it. Possible brick.

Trying an H850 ROM on an H830 will GUARANTEE a brick.
Do not attempt to to do so!

RS988 ROM and Kernel Compatibility

Just wondering what roms have worked successfully on the RS988, as well as Kernels. I've not seen any evidence of any compatibility, but I'm not sure I want to risk it without confirming that first. Thanks for any and all replies.
To the best of my knowledge... none.

Yeah currently there ate no ROMs or kennels for any other devices except h830 (t mobile) and h850 (unlocked European version). This is due to the fact that those were the only devices that could be boot loader unlocked. Now if this new method is working for you guys on other devices and you have working twrp for your devices that actually flash files then the devs building ROMs for the two currently supported should be able to include the other devices but do NOT flash any roms for any other device to yours. Kindly ask the devs (like @King_lilrowrow or @gwolfu) if they could support your devices. I don't currently fully know if this is possible as I'm not sure you guys can flash files via twrp successfully yet, you would have to ask a dev. If unable to flash files you may need twrp updated for each device (kernel specific stuff), but again not sure as I'm not a developer. Hopefully this heels and hopefully you guys get a chance to enjoy custom ROMs like I have. I know I couldn't deal without, I'm a flashaholic. I actually returned my RS988 for a h830.

If other G5's have BL unlocked and a working build of TWRP then it will be easy for me to add support to my CM14.1 (LineageOS) builds.
The TWRP version targeting 20a/b isn't 100% needed but avoids issues with TZ assertion.
The only device I'm aware of thats close to an unlock method (via someone I know) is the H840 (LG G5 SE)
When any other G5 model is supported you'll see it on our GitHub site: https://www.github.com/ConquestTeam/

Yeah from what I read in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/how-to/guide-adb-root-rw-dm-verity-off-sprint-t3523499 it appears that this method allowed them to flash twrp, although not sure if it's working 100% (I know they're having issues flashing SuperSU). Not sure if it's also unlocking the boot loader or not or of it simply bypasses the boot loader unlocking issues like old exploits on g2, g3 and g4. But as I said before I'm on h830 so not sure about this method and what exactly it's doing. But it appears to replace recovery with twrp. Also it appears to only be disabling DM verity and mounting system as rw via adb, not sure if it's allowing you to do this via twrp or not. Again if not, I'm assuming that you may need a new twrp built based on the modified kernel and boot image this method flashes. If that's they case maybe someone can goto twrp thread and ask support to be added specifically for these other versions, don't know.

At this time my focus is bringing up the G6 as well as a few other projects I'm working on.
I may look into supporting the RS988 and H840 shortly.

RS988 Porting
So now that we have full bootloader and root capability w/custom recovery. Does anyone know what it would take to port any AOSP ROMS or stock ROM's like Fulmics to this device?

Not sure but I do know it would make many of us very happy to see it. I've not stumbled upon the root procedure yet but anxious to get started.

If you look it up in XDA, there Are already threads with bootloader unlock + root + TWRP threads to get you started. I'm running stock rooted and it's pretty solid. Just wanna see if this device can get into the ROM game

Cool I see h830 and h850 on the TWRP devices page. So rs988 works too? :good:

If you poke around LG G6 ROM Development forums you'll find a thread on unlocking bootloader's for this device and there is a download for the RS988 specific TWRP. It's not on the TWRP site

Unroot LG H850

Good morning, the other day I decided to do root to get the ROM of Fulmics and the truth is that I just did not convince.
The battery lasts more or less the same thing, about 3 hours of screen and I can not make the payment with card from NFC.
The issue is that I would like to go back to the way it was before, remove root, plug the bootloader and official rom.
I have been looking at some tutorial since yesterday and I do not clarify.
What most doubtfully believe me is that the rom I have installed is Nougat and the methods I see of unroot speak of the stock firmware Marshmallow, I do not know if that method will be compatible
Can you help me a little or tell me some reliable tutorial to be able to do it?

First of all, you can still use Android pay on fulmics ROMs but you have to read through the threads as it is in there. Also there are custom kernels that help battery life and screen on time. But, regardless you can go back to stock without an issue. Download the stock N kdz from the thread and flash using LGUP or uppercut. Also, only relock your bootloader after you return to full stock. Once you flash it, it will wipe everything and you'll be back to stock. Not going link threads as I don't know if you're using h850 (international version) or h830 (T-MOBILE version). If you want more specifics, tell if you're on h830 or h850.

For the h850, go here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/stock-h850-20a-eu-rom-flashable-zips-t3506514
Download the kdz from that thread and follow instructions on that thread for flashing using lgup. If, for whatever reason lgup / uppercut doesn't work for you, you can download the complete zip from that same thread and flash it in TWRP. Again, before you do either please back up any data on phone storage before doing it.

i could use it too. i want to root my lg v10 and need the backup firmware in case something goes wrong. did you ever root yours, and how did u do it? i see tutorials on using a bunch of b.s, but from my understanding, this phones bootloader is already unlockable. so, wouldnt fastboot oem unlock, then flash twrp and supersu work? thanks

Installed V30c from here with no problems, using LGUP.
Used it to recover my phone from brick.
I was rooted and custom recovery on V30c and accidentally accepted OTA for v30d.
Then I was stuck on bootloop in TWRP. I flashed stock recovery and that was it.
Then I lost root and wanted to relock bootloader. After relocking, it was a very big mess.

Hello, i can see many different Region options to download. I can download from TMF, TMI, TMO or TMZ. Did you use TMO which i understand could stand for T-Mobile?
Ok, i ended up downloading 30D from Android File Host and it worked fine.

You can use H930 stock-based Boom box ROM on US998, I'm pretty sure.
But just trying to Frankenstein US998 to Europe H930 or H930DS is dangerous. @TxanMoe did that when he discovered WTF bootloader unlock exploit. But he bricked his phone in the process.
@runningnak3d helped him recover, and then @TxanMoe found his bootloader was indeed unlocked. He had to retrace his steps to figure out what all he had done. But if @runningnak3d hadn't helped him recover his phone from the diastrous H930 flash, we wouldn't have WTF today.
You are really good man @ChazzMatt
Should l flash directly h930 stock based boombox rom? I mean without root. It's regular us998 now. Bootloader is locked. I tried to sell itz, because of the language it is very difficult.
So, I will just download boombox with LG up l will flash is isn't it?
Thanks

No, you would need TWRP to flash Boom Box. Somebody mentioned that now they have Boom box they have their language back. So it must have more than US998.

Actually l didnt try using magisk hide to hide. I'm not professional about these kind of things. I just read and trying to do it I Root it before from your therad any bank apps were not working. I heard there is a box you can manage everything with your phone but it's expensive. Maybe I should bring it to some cell phone shop who has that. I'm a little worried if l brick the device.
@ChazzMatt
I checked boombox rom but it's not working without root. So there's no way to convert it now without root.

back to stock PIE UK

Hi guys,
I'm want to go to stock LG PIE Firmware.
I have the LG H930 and am from the UK.
Can anyone help me with how to get back to stock and which PIE firmware I should use for my phone?
There seems to be a wide range of stock pie firmware and want to ensure I get the correct one.
Also wanting to unroot and lock the bootloader
Thanks,
Ross

What are you on right now?
If you have H930 and you live in UK, the answer is simply the EU H930 Pie KDZ.

I run rooted stock firmware with mods to customize and control my phone. I would never un-root and lock bootloader unless I was selling the phone.
Having TWRP custom recovery alone plus Titanium Backup app two tool I am loathe to give up.

Glad to be of help. I was merely curious about the "wide range of stock pie firmware" comment.
I only post full image KDZ or TWRP-flashable zips based on full image KDZ, and I post those in the ROMs section. Full image KDZ is stock, official LG firmware. (I maintain Nougat, Oreo, Pie KDZ threads for several V30 variants, but they are all clearly labelled for which variant and which OS.)
Yes, someone has posted beta Pie partial image "update" files -- which by definition are not yet official release and possibly buggy.
Stick with KDZ and you'll be OK.
