Hi guys,
Just received my phone. Got the latest Android version and I'm fairly happy with it.
Got a quick question - How vulnerable is the glass in front of the camera? I really want to maintain the image quality, but knowing that the phone has a camera bump and it's literally rubbing against surfaces, I wanted to ask whether any of you got noticeable scratches on it? I still have the protective plastic sticker on it which reduces the quality greatly, but I just want to know whether I should really think about how to protect the camera glass? (Like sticking a washer on it, etc.)
Also, something I have found out: The phone takes RAW (DNG) photos with the stock camera only. Which you then (blindly & 1 by 1) need to convert to .tiff using DCraw Mobile app. Then, you end up with ~70mb 16bit tiff file which you can import into Lightroom/Photoshop. Now the whole process is a bit time-consuming. Anyone found any workarounds this?
Sorry for all the questions, but I really like this phone. I'm planning on sticking with it for a while. So I have to be careful not to wreck it.
Cheers!

I just fell in love with FreeDCam! Only if it worked with DNG, that would make me a really happy person.
Is that what I needed to attach?

@empy16
Give that a try
In Picture format button where it had jpeg written tap on it and select DNG
Let me know how it goes if Successful you will need to shoot a white image DNG so I can create a FlatFielD correction to be added to DNG Metadata.
Easiest Quickest way place a a white page A4 printing page on top PC Monitor Set PC background to White at Full Brightness Defocus the image with manual focus / set infinity focus set iso100 take the image of the page make sure not to include your fingers in the image lol.
Should DNG Capture but experience FC it maybe caused by my android studio in that case I've pushed the Elephone 9000 to my got will ask the other dev to build

Works like a charm!
I will try to produce the white DNG when I get a chance (Today or Tomorrwo). Thanks!
Right, even with FreeDCam DNG/RAW capture does not work on Custom non-stock roms like ResurrectionRemix or Cyanogenmod. Any chance for a fix. I really need this, this was a big selling point for me.

hii guys ..
i keep wonder ,, we will have zoom on miui camera ??
i like miui rom .. the only bug that it dont have zoom and i need it
so any body know if they are working on it ?? at we gonna have zoom or they give up on that bug ?!
My opinion, you don't need zoom.
You need an app that can crop a picture because that's exactly what digital zoom does.
So shoot your pics and then edit them (I use Picsay and it's awesome) to isolate the details.

All digital zoom does is makes bigger blobs of colour.
Ugh... Sad realization that the X10 zoom is digital.
This is still a convenience being able to zoom(crop) an image and without editing send it directly to facebook/twitter/wordpress/[ fill in the blank ].

Have you ever seen a phone's camera lens pop out?
...
Exactly!
All phones have digital zoom only.
Also, unless you are in a great hurry, it takes less than a minute to crop a picture and then share it in any social network so no biggie.
Try PicSay, I find it entertaining to give a "final touch" to my photos before posting them.
So after lots of exchanges with the developer, i finally have RAW image capture working in Yureka.
It is still in beta, and the steps to download is long (for now), but hey raw capture and editing is pure joy and we can get great results and details out of our powerful camera.

Bluish tint and low quality
Sadly there is a bluish(sometimes greenish) tint and that is not light but too much. Any way to capture raw with normal colours? Also the quality is even lower than the jpegs captured with stock camera app.

also you should post the dng files on G+ page where the developer can take a look at it
I dont need the dngs.
The green is because of the missing colormatrix. But it can easy fix with awb tool in ps and rawtherapee or every other app wich can read dngs.
It would be usefull when the thread starter update it and make his knowledge for all users avail.
Its not good to point all problems to me.
I get bored when answering 20 times the same question and user get stupid answers or im just ignore them.
Its not my problem when people dont know how to process the taken raws. The quality can be worse when you dont know it.
Im thinking about to remove rawsupport in freedcam for all devices wich use the neutral matrix... Then its limited to g2/g3/m9 devices.

Ouch. ...i knew that the color tint can be fixed but i didn't know how to do that. No prob i will check youtube. What about the quality? Is something wrong with the settings?

the preview is in dark conditons always a bit noise. for raw capture use iso 100 in all light conditions. it reduce the noise heavy. the exposure can later increased when its to dark.
also turning off wavlet-denoise can decrase the noise

We don't have a powerful camera like one+one and the raw output is expected to be noisy as no noise reduction algorithm is used.
Although FreeDcam has options for noise reduction and what not, i would rather do that in an external software. this is the reason why we are capturing in raw right?
With RAW you will get much more lighting information and thus edit should be much better.
Also try to use manual control available like adjusting ISO etc. Google should be your friend. Enjoy!
A'ight. Didn't want you to take it as a "complain" xD ..Thanks for the info though. @abhi can you tell me what is the expolock button for? to lock exposure ?

with that you can lock the camera ae routine. that means you can point into the sun lock the exposure and the cam does not change it until it gets released.
it can be used to trick the camera shutter time.
as sample when you want to have a longer exposure time at night. aim with the cam to a dark point or lay it to the ground and lock the exposure. then point to the scene you want to shoot.
the same trick can be done for a faster shutter speed. for that lock the expo into a light (sun or simliar)

Hi!
I am planing on buying this phone (currently have a S5 that's beginning to show it's age) and would really like to know if poco has a working (and tested) RAW photo support. This is something I actually miss the most with my S5 camera. Can someone with a GCam please check and ideally upload a low light high ISO DNG sample photo?
If anyone is wondering what's the use of RAW, with all the hassle (beware, technical details ahead, possibly even a bit of math!):
Access to the RAW sensor data is extremely powerful. When doing a night time photography you can get significantly better results by manually lowering the ISO and bumping the exposure but in truly low light that's not enough. You then take dozens of 30s exposures and add them together. The problem is that if you are working with JPEGs, it doesn't really work for extremely low signals. If there is a light source in your image that even after 30s exposure does not expose a pixel enough to bump the value from 0 to 1, with the added noise reduction it gets rounded to 0 every time, so adding zeroes gets you nowhere. On the other hand, if there is a significant noise in your sensor, that's actually in this case extremely helpful. By adding the photos that have a very low signal (below a normal detection threshold) but also a significant noise, you can remove the noise and still get the signal that has 'piggybacked' on the noise above the pixel threshold. Doing this, if you have the patience, basically makes your photos limited only by the 12MP sensor resolution and the lens quality. The quality of the sensor, it's dynamic range and noise level becomes completely irrelevant and you can basically simulate an 'ideal' sensor with arbitrarily large dynamic range and sensitivity and arbitrarily low noise. You should, for example, be able to do astrophotography and photograph objects that are too dim to be visible with a naked eye, beyond what even dSLRs can manage without these kinds of tricks.
With the very fast CPU and plentiful RAM you could even possibly automate this tedious process on the phone itself (for example by the use of CLI linux raw photo manipulation tools installed through termux or linuxdeploy) so it could be as simple as putting a phone on a tripod (or a sky tracking mount), starting a simple script and waiting for half an hour while the phone takes and processes the photos.
With access to the still linear RAW pixel data, you can even use the camera as a 'scientific' sensor in, for example, a cheap portable spectroscope. The possibilities are endless
Yes, I am well aware that I am weird
yup you can. also you can install 3rd party app and camera2 api is enabled by default no need to root and bootloader unlock for that.
Secondly camera is super awesome.
i can you lead to telegram group where people share their photoshots done on poco f1. you will get the idea
The gcam is one option for you to capture raw images but it does not support manual mode so you cannot get those long exposure raw images to talked about. What you can do is get a camera app that supports both raw images capturing and manual mode like proshot or manual camera
Very cool, thank you both! It would be great if someone could upload an actual DNG file taken with the poco and an app that also supports manual exposure. I am curious if the cli programs will recognise the format.

well manual mode is supported by default camera, but it doesn't have any option for RAW output.
my best pick will be open camera application.
what you recommend for both raw and manual mode
I've shot some raw photos using latest GCAM. However I don't know any apps for RAW files editing in phone. And I Didn't get time to check their quality on Photoshop. RAW files size is around 15Mb. I can send you those photos if you want to check.
That would be great if the DNG format is the same as the one the other apps (that have also manual support) produce. Can you send it to my gmail (same username)? Thanks.

Gcam with manual controls does exist you know. Just get gcam with mods or from sannnity. These have manual control which can control ISO from 100 to 6400, shutter time from 1s to 32s (nothing shorter than 1s) and manual focus control. They can save it in raw.
FreeDCam also supports both manual controls and RAW.
To edit RAW images on the phone, use google snapseed app.

I tried gcam as well but no improvement.
Are you from India and if you ordered the product via flipkart during big billion day sale? I found similar complaints from three other users in twitter. But for some, they do not have the problem. May be a defective piece?

The exact issue is that front camera is out of focus/always focusing at infinity. It is not getting focused on the human nearby.
Absolutely same
Yes happened to me too, last morning i received and used stock camera and gcam 7.0 too the front camera photos are so blurry if we zoom in.
Poor sharpness, compared it with POCO F1 and noticed LG G8X thinQ is having very dull front camera sharpness
And poor white balance in nights.
Same in night mode in gcam too.
Please suggest some settings to fix this.
As per Lg we are supposed to keep the camera 30cm away to focus.
https://qhelp.lge.com/share.ncd?mode=F&oid=5094M04UN8&sid=6EL
I think all the phones have this issue as its set on infinity focus.
Happened with me too
The so called 32 Mp Front Camera is so poor. No sharpness, no details and poor AWB.
Even Pocof1 did amazing job compared to Lg G8x.
Tried several Gcams but result remain the same
Yes front camera is very poor..no sharpness..even my 4.5 year old redmi note 3 with gcan takes better selfie
Yep, gcam makes little bit improvement in sharpness but that's it.
My oneplus has way better front camera than g8x.
As well I found that wide camera is also not clear, compared to main camera.
And video from wide camera is very bad.
I have read several tech review blogs that the front camera is fixed at infinity, and hence the face is not focused correctly. It's not a defect, and it's not a recent issue. Even Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has the same problem. You have to keep the device as far as away as possible while taking a selfie.

You are right.
I agree that the stock cam is far-focused that results in very (defocused) smooth selfies. Alternate solution that I tried is to install this Gcam version with a xml config file that I created after playing around with the config of it for quite a while. This should raise the quality of selfies quite a bit and feel free to even tweak the settings further to cater to your preference.
Let me know if it helped and how the results are looking after using this.
PS: After installing this Gcam and downloading the XML file, open the Gcam, navigate to the section "More" from the bottom tiles on the main screen. Between the options that appear on the screen and the bottom tile (from where you selected the option "More"), there will be some space/gap. Double-tap in that gap and an option to select the config file will appear. Select the downloaded XML file and hit OK, the GCam app will restart with the config from that file pre-loaded. Happy Clicking.

How to use config(xml)
Configs
Let's get started!
1. Go to settings and scroll to the very bottom where XML configs are mentioned.
2. Go to this item and save the config (naming it as you like, the main thing is to create a path)
3. Go to the path that was specified in the save (/ GCam /config7 ) and copy the configs there.
4. Go into the camera and click on an empty space near the white button and gallery on the right several times. A panel will appear in which all the configs that have been saved will be displayed, select them and click restore.
! The camera will restart and this will mean that the configs have taken effect!
Hope I could explain. Good luck
What is Lib Patcher ?
Libpatcher - is a custom setting where you can set all the settings to your liking
Radius Temporal: changes the graininess of the image by affecting noise, the higher the image is more blurry and less noise, the lower the more noisy, but more detail
Tone Curve: Adjust dark points, white points, shadows, highlights. It is recommended to enable and leave the default values.
Sharpness: allows you to control the sharpness of the image. Zoom in for low-light shots, and zoom out for selfies. THIS IS A PERSONAL PREFERENCE, ADJUST TO YOUR NEEDS
Luminance Noise Reduction: Controls the “graininess” in images caused by high ISO. Decrease it to get more detail at the expense of high noise, or increase it if the noise is unacceptable to you
Color Noise Reduction: Controls color spots. There is usually no need to adjust it as this will not improve the quality, but you can increase it slightly if you see colored spots in the dark. Too much chroma noise can cause a decrease in saturation. Also known as color noise
Contrast: allows you to control the contrast of the image. Increase it if you want darker shadows, and decrease it to make it brighter. THIS IS A PERSONAL PREFERENCE, REGULATE IT IN YOUR NEEDS
Saturation: allows you to control the saturation of the image. Increase it if you want more saturated colors in your photos. THIS IS A PERSONAL PREFERENCE, ADJUST TO YOUR NEEDS
Luminance noise reduction levels
Level 1 (Detail) changes the photo very slightly, slightly smoothing out small elements
Level 2 (Rough Surfaces) seriously alters the image by smoothing grain
Level 3 (Edges) doesn't change much. Smooths edges slightly
Level 4 (Smooth Surfaces) radically alters the image by making it posterized by smoothing out large areas of the same color. Avoid magnification over 1.0
Color noise reduction levels
Level 1 (Detail) fine textures, but the same applies to rough details
Level 2 (Rough surfaces) fine textures, but the same applies to rough details
Level 3 (Edges) Edges are mainly defined by the contrast between one object and another
Level 4 (Smooth Surfaces) Smooth surfaces are generally uniform areas of the image. Like wallpaper with few small details

Hi ! Thanks for the work.
With the 8.xxx version I have to install Google Photos if I want to watch the pics or videos I've just taken from this app. Is there a way to change that ? I don't want and don't need Google Photos.
