Try to send an SMS and get a can't send error message. Looking at SIM cards in Settings abd the SMS Messages is greyed out. Any ideas?
where are you based ?
i find if the radio band is set to USA the calls and text function are greyed out. leaving only data to work.
only if its set to Europe for me do calls texts and data all work together .
to change the band press on the dial pad *#*#4636#*#*
this will enable engineering settings.
press 'phone information'
top right press the '3 dots'
press 'select radio band'
then choose a band based on your location or play with them see which works best exit and try that.
redo the steps to change again.
if this doesnt work maybe check your network APN settings
for me im finding this phone a mess ,

Just out of curiousity...
Go to your home screen
Hit Menu, Go to Settings, Go to Wireless and Network, at the bottom hit Mobile Networks, then make sure Data Enabled is checked.
Get back to me.

I was wondering if there is a way to permanently select a operator?
My network operator (Play) allows free roaming on other carriers inside the country (Orange, Plus, T-Mobile)
I get horrible signal in my work and at home with my "home" carrier and I always roam on one of the others. But I have to manually select that network and every so often I get a "refreshing SIM" message and it switches back to my home carrier (Play) which then gives me 0 bars. I then have to go into settings and select a roaming partner all over again (and this happens at least 2x/day)
Is there a way (either by editing a file/deleting a file or some app) that I can force my phone to only and always roam and not connect to my home network?
pssss.... there is top secret solution... when you will be in the roaming range, go to mysterious hidden menu, called: Settings.
Then, in the section called Network, go to the Mobile networks sub section.
When you'll be there, you possibly would find the most hidden secret feature: Network operators selection mode.
when you will enter this one, you can choose between manual and automatic operator selection.
Please do not populate this advice, is for highly advanced users only, and because of that it is hidden so deeply... in the secret document called: Owner Manual.
haha funny. But if you read my post you'll see I do manually select the network, but it still kicks it over to the home network every day.
if you unticked auto mode, it should not switch back...

I did but it clicks back when there is some "refreshing sim data"
I looked more about the operator and it seems others have this issue with their android phones. It seems the operator forces a network update (I guess to cut down on their fees they pay to the other providers)
So my option would be somehow removing the home operator from the list of operators that the phone can connect to (if there is such a list) or some app that forces to only go on certain networks that I pre select. Nothing is set in the network providers as auto, everything is on manual.
Or of course change providers (but I'll have to see what the canx policy is)
Running CM12.1 2015511-nightly. For some reason my phone says No Service even though I have a sim card. I googled it and I tried *#*#4636#*#* but I cannot enable my cell radio in the Phone Information menu (button dosnt change to "turn off" and I cannot select radio band (only option there is automatic and that gives me a failure message).
I would really like some help here. XT1023.
Hi , is there anyway to force 3g/4g only on this phone..? I've seemed to try every hidden menu code and nothing seems to work.
The reason I ask this is that I've downloaded a global firmware (171) for this phone and unfortunately my carrier no longer does 2G and when im getting poor 3g coverage it switches to 2g and lose service completely. This never happened on my old carrier firmware as it was setup not to switch to 2g.
I also think it's because I have a single SIM version and this new global firmware is setup for dual Sim.
Anyone got any solutions? Sounds like downgrading firmware isn't a option at the moment...
4G only on Huawei Mate 20 Pro works!

Hello,
yes, now we finally found a solution.
Do exactly as described:
1. Download Settings Database Editor from playstore and open it
2. Look for hw_networkmode_preference and edit the stock value "9,6,2,1" to "11"
3. Restart the device
4. Open Settings Database Editor
5. Click on + Add new setting at the top
6. Type "hw_add_4g_only" (without " ") and press save changes
7. Type in your country code, example "502" Malaysia or "262" Germany. Press save changes
8. Type "hw_add_4g_only" (without " ") and press save changes (YES, REPEAT STEP 6)
9. Type in your country code, example "502" Malaysia or "262" for Germany and press save changes (YES, REPEAT STEP 7)
10. Restart the device and VOILA!
Now you have access to ALL network modes. Select "LTE" or "4G" for 4G only functionality.
Like this, you have stable Internet nearly where ever you go, without dropping back to overcrowded 2G/3G Networks.
Best,
Stefan
i know this thread a month old but i tried this and 4g only option is there but it also removes all other options which for obv reasons is not good if in a non 4g area, is there a way to add the 4g/3g option .
ps: i found an old thread to add the 3g again but have to manually switch between the 2 options
Hey,
My device updated to the new firmware yesterday and I have lost the '3G Only' option. Is there a way to unlock this?
Apologies if this has been asked before but I can only seem to find the 4G solution. Thanks in advance
No texts
I can't send any text messages over any network mode, and to make or recieve calls I had to change modes.
1.)Remove third party potential threating apps just to be sure.
2.)Always make sure the phones up to date on the latest firmware.
3.)The next step is to go to the dialer ##72786# that forces the phone to reactivate.
4.)Next step go back to the dialer and dial ##3282#
4.2)Go to edit
4.3)Then type 000000
4.4)Then go to LTE
4.5)Then go to band 41 that is enabled and uncheck to disable.
4.6)Then go to band 25 that is enabled and uncheck to disable.
4.7)Then go to band 41PCII that is enabled and uncheck to disable.
5.)Reboot the phone don't expect full LTE service yet there are still some more steps...
6.)Go to settings find VOLTE and enable. Search VOLTE in the search bar to enable it.Swipe right on the button to turn it on. New icon will pop up at the top of the phone if done correctly.
7.)Then go back to the dialer and type ##3282#
7.2)Go to edit
7.3)Then type 000000 again
7.4)Then LTE again
7.5)Then go to band priority
7.6 & 7.7)Set both bands 41 and 25 to the bottom of the list by typing the number 17 on band 25 and 18 on band 41 and that pushes them down the list. Make sure band 26 is set to 1 on the priority list.
7.8)Then turn off your phone and turn it back on.
This fix is broken from a network reset or ##72786# update or Samsung software update. So reapply the fix after each update or network reset

The Sprint side of this issue. https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/help/galaxy-s10-models-lte-issues-t3923109 I am not sure if this well help other carriers.
It works but
I'm on sprint and it Definitely helps with the signal, but I lost lte+. I have been not getting texts unless I send a text, then they all start flooding in. Had this problem since day 1 and this didn't help the problem with texts

i think OP should change the threads' titles reared towards rural people. people take your advice and use it for other ways.
you are spreading wrong info. do you know that you can roam on tmobile lte? it is better than having no lte or just ehrpd.
stop spreading nonsense
