Could anyone please answer my questions
1) How is the custom Rom support for OnePlus devices?(XDA and elsewhere)
2) I am planning to buy OP3, what are your thoughts on this?
3) Also Is OnePlus's oxygen OS really frustrating ?

1. Custom ROM support for their devices is amazing! Especially for the OnePlus One! Now that we have all of the sources we need and official CM for all of their devices, the level of development for all of their devices should become about even now.
2. The OP3 definitely looks like a nice, solid device. If you want to root and use custom ROMs with it though, I would wait for a month or two after the release to see what OnePlus does about providing the community with the device sources. I would also wait for the next Nexii (Google Phones) to be released for this year if they aren't too terribly expensive where you're located.
3. Oxygen OS is now a pretty solid looking ROM. It doesn't have too much customization, but what it DOES have seems to work pretty well. If you don't want or need the features of a custom ROM, if is definitely fast and stable enough to be used as a daily driver.
Good luck to you and your endeavours with OnePlus!!

Thank you for detailed answer and for your time.
Indeed Nexus 6p is expensive. I would have bought it now if it was snapdragon 820.
Will wait though for next nexus.

Xiaomi doesn't want to give us kernel sources because it would be possible to overclock CPU to match the Mi5 Pro level and have similar performance.

Absolutely right.
Yeah, theoretically. But I think the processors of the MI5 32gb aren't the same like the ones in the MI5 Pro. They have some errors so they can't handle such CPU clocks.
Learning from the past, the kernel source won't be released at least 1 year after the device released. I guess this is to maintain MIUI users, because after kernel sources are released, custom ROMs are coming and they start leaving MIUI. Even I just flash RR on my fresh Mi5
If they really wanted their users engaged with MIUI, they should probably focus and release a MIUI version that actually works. Or to release a MIUI version in general, because as of past few weeks, even that is debatable. Not to mention about MM support (or lack thereof) in PCSuite... Or bugs in local backups. The list goes on,... I will stop here.
I feel the hardware is on par with what I, or any average user expected, but I feel there is no software for that phone.

That's why I regret buying the MI5. I should have waited one more month for the oneplus 3. Maybe I'll sell my MI5. The battery life on miui global beta is just bad.

MIUI is getting better, but can't keep the pace with other custom ROMs. Xiaomi devices are good by specs, so consider buying it for the sake of the specs, then flash some other custom ROM instead. FYI, from the POV of iOS users (my apple-fanboy friends), MIUI is considered more friendly than AOSP based ROMs. Don't ask why
Oneplus x is a really nice phone , i especially like its form factor which is why i brought one just today , but i read a thread where oneplus did not release MM kernel sources and this phone's production stopped. Now i am thinking about giving it back as it would be nearly impossible for future development.
What would anyone who is a present owner suggest in such a situation ? I am only getting this phone because of its 5 inch form factor and good development team.
P.s i know onyx got some top class dev's and Nougat is already on its way, i do not doubt their potential but just this phones future development progress.
Thank you.
We don't need OnePlus for further development. We are perfectly capable of keeping it up to spec. You'll be fine. Enjoy your new toy
It's a phone. You aren't buying it for its future development, you buying it for its features and the fact that they satisfy you. Don't fall in such buyer loop.

I am a person who is easily bored out using the same rom , i like aosp but i tend to move between different roms (once a week) just because of that . The fact that this phone has CM13 , MIUI (WIP) , SAILFISH OS excited me the most. This is the only reason i look for a phone with good dev community in it which partially require OEM & Chipset supplier support to release drivers.
Of course the phone excites me but I've looped through so many phones that the phone hardware alone does not excite me anymore.
Thank you for the advise tho.

thank you for the reply , but might i ask why . I always thought OEM's have to release the kernel sources or the phone will have less chance to be supported by next android version because dev's have to depend on hacks to get things working which is never ideal.

No. Theoretically the only thing we need kernel wise is the DTS and a few drivers. We can pull the source for the 801 from Qualcomm themselves. We don't need an OEM outside of that
I haven't found a comparison - what do people recommend for a stable non-buggy ROM?
Comparison between ROM is not appreciated because it is underrating work from Devs done on their free time for free...
Each one has advantage and all are stable for daily use.
If you have some time, flash all of them, and check which do you prefer.
Personnaly, i like customization with animations and so on (UI friendly) so I choosed AEX, Crdroid or RR.
For pixel like experience go with Mokee
LineageOS. all works, fast phone. Best ROM
LineageOS 14.1 seems to be working great as a daily driver right now on my LIW-L24.

I disagree. Taking the "every kid gets a trophy!" approach doesn't reward work that stands out from the rest and doesn't help to advance overall progress and innovation.
Some roms can be better, faster, and/or more stable than others and it's not unfair to say it. It's called constructive criticism and good devs use this to their advantage to better their work.
If I say I prefer rom A over rom B, that's not degrading/underrating/insulting the dev of rom B and if he/she takes it as such then they're in the wrong line of work...regardless of if they're paid for it or not.

It is your personal taste that you prefer A over B.
Its subjective...
You like LOS, i like RR, who s right ? [emoji1]

The stability is very important, updates are important, how it merges changes to updated apps is important(Magisk,Supersu, as examples). With all that said, by now, for the 5x, all roms are very stable. Time has been put in, problems fixed, no need to worry.
I like LOS too
I too but pure Nexus is a great choice
You're a power user. Can the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 keep up? Rate this thread to express how "healthy" the development scene is for the Xiaomi Mi Max 2. A higher rating indicates available root methods, kernels, and custom ROMs.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
As on January 24, 2018, there is next to zero development for this device, Don't know what it takes to get the developers interested...
I can confirm that zero development right now
With xiaomi.eu rom, miui pro and lineage os we have something for everyone, and that without the sources. now that the source code has been released, the development will really start I guess. we also have aokp and ressurection remix which both look promising. people are just underestimating the effort it takes to create a rom.. the development is not that strong, but when you consider that it's a special device (not everyones taste) and that the sources had just been released it's looking good
Some ROMs are there. But development is extreme slow. Faulty bought.
faulty bought? lol
ok what do you need from 3rd party non-miui rom over miui?
Miui 9 pretty much includes alot of features that 3rd party rom has so there no real point to go for other roms unless you have specific need which doesn't give a good enough reason for any devs to go in and spend their precious time and probably end up with bunch of whiny users asking for update EVERYDAY....
to me, i found by root and install mi-globe rom + install google camera apk pretty much completes this phone already.
no issue spotted. also i'm using Lspeed for system tuning.
you have to learn to adapt the current world.
Yes RR does look promising, but then other phones got RR pretty soon, it's just that this one is taking a good long wait ...
The present RR is unusable BTW..

the developer stopped development until february
Not even one oficial rom builder, and those unofficial roms are full of bugs.
I was planning to purchase a G5. But my concern is if any custom ROM works stable on this device?

Many custom ROM's work pretty rock solid on this device. But the downside is ofcourse that if you use LG non stock that using the wide angle camera is going to be a pain in the ass as the LG's stock camera software is just superb tuned for it. Further bugs and G5 problems that you might consider you could all find them by simply googling. And the G5 got ofcourse less dev's then Phones like nexus and oneplus but it's fine as oreo is also incoming soon. Stock wise (hopefully) and unofficial. I hope I've could inform you a bit more and I hope that you'll enjoy your choice you shall make
