TASKER: "Send SMS" task not running, but shows OK in log - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is not a problem with profiles and contexts, this is smply about the task itself not working.
What I've done:
1. Go to tasks tab and click the + icon
2. Select "Send SMS" as task
3. Entered a valid phone number
4. "Hi" as message body
5. Save and press the play button to test it.
6. A green dot comes up on the action indicating that it has rin successfully... the same shows up in run logs
But, no sms has been sent, I even checked my sms app's sent/outbox/drafts
I read in someplaces that not all sms apps are supported. So I've tried the following apps:
1. Handcent
2. Textra
3. QKsms
4. Messaging (AOSP)
5. Google Messenger
6. Zero sms
7. GO sms
I made sure they are set as default while testing.
My Device: Coolpad Note 3
OS: Lollipop (not rooted)
I've been at it since a couple of weeks now and no luck at all ! Tasker is set as administrator and has notif access. What am i doing wrong ?
PS- All other sms tasks are working fine !

Bump

I don't have any idea. By the way, there is a section Tasker Tips & Tricks. You might get an answer there.
Also, you can find tasker on reddit too, just search google "tasker reddit". It's a bigger tasker community.
There's also Tasker group on google+.

[APP][18AUG09]GPS Location: Send your location via sms or email as Google Maps Link

What's the application about:
This application finds your location via GPS (provided you have an internal or external GPS).
Then you have the option to:
1. Send an SMS
2. Send an Email
3. Create a Note
4. Send to Clipboard
your location as just plain coordinates (40.089821,22.567634) (can be copied to maps.google.com search field)
or better as a Google Maps Link (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&t=m&q=40.089821,22.567634)
or (New) as a Google Maps Mobile Link (http://www.google.com/gmm/x?action=BUSI&q=LAT,LONG).
5. (New) Scheduled SMS, Email sending or Http request on defined time interval.
The persons who receive your SMS or Email can click on the google maps link and they will directly see your location on google maps.
You can use Pocket Outlook or Flexmail as your email sending app. You can choose the account that will be used and you can a default recipient.
When sending the email you will be prompted to add a recipient. The default recipient you have set up will be proposed. You can change it or browse through your contacts to choose another email.
You can keep a note with your current location and add your own notes. Date and time automatically added in the note.
You can copy the location to the clipboard and paste it anywhere you want or you can just phone someone and tell him your location.
To setup a http request, for example http://maps.google.com/maps?q=40.000000,24.000000
then you would write in the settings http://maps.google.com/maps?q=%lat%,%long%
So if you're still on vacation why not send your location to your friends!!!
Version 1.2 beta 3 What's new (14/12/2009)
1. Fixed the scheduled http function
2. SMS 140 chars. There is a choice in the settings to send a cut SMS version that is around 137 to 140 chars.
Version 1.2 beta 1 What's new (23/11/2009)
1. Scheduled SMS, Email sending or Http request on defined time interval. Each of them can be enabled separately and have its own time interval.
2. Google Maps Mobile Link. You can choose to send a Google Maps Mobile Link by SMS. This links open only from a mobile device and cannot be opened from a desktop pc. So you should be careful when sending this type of link. If you are not sure if the other party can open this link than better send a Google Maps desktop link. (http://www.google.com/gmm/x?action=BUSI&q=LAT,LONG)
3. Send without editing. For both SMS and Email you have the option to send them without first editing them. The SMS program and email program will not open but they will be sent in the background.
4. Send without poping up Contact Screen. For both SMS and Email you have the option to send them without the Choose Contact screen opening. You have to set a predefined Recipient in the Settings.
5. Many internal changed to allow the scheduled SMS, Email and Http function be implemented.
Version 1.1a What's new (11/09/2009)
When you use "Microsoft Intermediate GPS Driver" and you press disconnect the app now closes the GPS. In v1.1 you should exit the program to close GPS.
Version 1.1 What's new (08/09/2009)
1. GPS Data. The app now uses "Microsoft Intermediate GPS Driver" to get the gps data. It's the default option. Works perfect, not laggy anymore. Should solve the problems some of you had connecting to GPS. For older devices (wm 2003) which don't support the driver, you can use the old method with the serial port. Choose it from the options.
2. SMS. Added Date and Time in the message when sending SMS
3. Email with Pocket Outlook. You can now edit the email before sending it. The option to send it without editing it, remains but you have to choose it in the options.
Things I have in mind to do next
1. Some graphics improvements for vga devices. (it's developed on my qvga)
2. Look if can get the pic from google maps and send it as MMS or Mail Attachment
Known Issues:
v1.0
When moving fast (in a car) then your location shown is about 5 seconds back. So when you stop somewhere it keeps refreshing till it reaches your current position. It takes about 5 secs (solved on v1.1).
Installation:
Just install the cab on the device or storage card. When upgrading then you have to install the app on the same location to keep the settings OR copy the settings.txt file to your new location.
Donation:
Anybody finds this app useful and would like to donate, you can do it through this paypal account:
reserved for future use (updates, etc.)
excellent man, thank you, i was waiting for an application like this for a long time....
Great App !
Now, if you do a better graphics, it will become a beautiful app
Awesome app! Cheers.
How about another option where it sends it as an MMS. You could make it open google maps on the phone, take a screen shot of the location then send the image via mms.
That would be sweeeet.
great app. +1 to the mms idea
This sounds Great. Would it be possible to use this as a phone finding tool?
Coool Application.Iphone like
Good and Great
A great we have this in our mobile it very improtant --so it sound good application --thank you
Can you make it send a .kml file as an email attachment? Then, as long as the recipient has google maps, opening the attachment will launch google maps with the location marked.
This works great on my T-Mobile USA Touch Pro 2, stock ROM, a very useful application. Thank you highway!
does what you say..
Tested on my BLACKSTONE (hd ,stock rom ) ,working very smooth..yeah..
does what you say (sms, etc..)
Bit unsure ,when i clicked on "connect " (to gps ) if it was in fact trying to ( would it not be good to have some form of indicator ,that it is ? )..,but hey very impressed..
thank you

Works OK on my Sprint Touch Pro but ...
When you send an email, it puts the completed email in the outbox where it is sent automatically giving you no chance to edit the email. Other apps that send email open the email program with the mail composed allowing you to edit the outgoing email. Apparently the author has his email configured to not send email automatically.
Hi,

"Remind me later" function?

Hi everybody,
is there a patch or similar to choose each time how is the delay to remind me again a specific reminder/appointment etc? In windows mobile was a menu like "remind me again in 5 /10 /15/30 min or 1/2 hours or 1/2 days". But in Android apparenlty I couldn't find such option. Can you help me pls? I use the Google calendar, so I don't want to installa different calendar on my Hero, I just need a pacth (or add-on ) to add this funtion.
Thanks for your help.

Not sure what you mean here? In the Calendar app supplied with the Hero, you can set your reminder timing against events.

Thats true but that reminder does not repeat itself. I suppose the question is how to make a reminder repeat after a specified time.
On a slightly different note:
=====================
Whenever I add an event in the calendars app on the phone (into my Google calendar), the event lists itself 3 times after syncing with Google. Why is that so? How can I fix this? Please help
Yes, this is the question, sorry for my english...
Astrid
You could try Astrid task manager, which is free in the market.
It allows you to set reminders by day/hour, has a nice UI, and I think the most recent version integrates with the calendar so you get the task added there as well.

GogTasks - synchronize your tasks with google

I don't know the developer either but yes it works. It synchronizes tasks both ways and basically it reads task categories from your mobile and transfer all your task from a category to newly created sub-category in your gmail task window. So if you have for a example a taks called "change oil" with category "Car", the app will create a category "Car" in your gmail -calendar task window and there you will find all your tasks with category car. Unfortunately you can only view one category at a time in your calendar, so if you want to view all tasks from category for example "business" you will have to switch it from category "car" to category "business"in g- calendar. And that is kind of issue for me because whenever i switch from one category in gmail calendar to other,(change of categories has to be confirmed with left mouse button or enter) gmail-calendar adds "space" to the name of a first task on the list and unfortunately it's synchronized like that...with that annoying space to my mobile, unless i edit it manually which is kind of pain in the ass. Try it for yourself and see how it works for you.
cheers
Thank you!!

Your welcome.
Let me know if you also have this problem in your calendar:
"And that is kind of issue for me because whenever i switch from one category in gmail calendar to other,(change of categories has to be confirmed with left mouse button or enter) gmail-calendar adds "space" to the name of a first task on the list and unfortunately it's synchronized like that...with that annoying space to my mobile"
Maybe i'm doing something wrong.
Also it synchronizes all the past(completed?) tasks from your device so it might take a while.
Hi
Hi guys, just wanted to mention that I'm the author of this app, so if you have any questions or problems don't hesitate to contact me
I'll be monitoring this thread, and can also be contacted on nilsnett at gmail dot com.
Trying it
I am trying the program
I am not experiencing fo now the space in front of the tasks, maybe because I am trying a recent version?
It's not clear to me if and how I can have automatic syncing. Do I do it manually?

The space in front is related to an issue with the way Google Calendar are handling creation of task groups, not the GogTasks app, as arturo points out.
I recommend you guys work with the task list from a different web interface - like for instance the one at http://mail.google.com/tasks/ig or the iGoogle tasks plugin.
With regards to automatic syncing, it does not support that as of yet. I'm planning that option for a future release thought
Unable to Synchronise personal task account
FANTASTIC application.
Unfortunately although it installs correctly and shows all my local
tasks - it refuses to synchronise.
I get the following error:
Communication Error: GTL Cookie Not Set.
With a whole lot of error code afterwards.
I have tried installing to storage card and locally.
I have tried re-booting the device.
I am running a UK HTC HD2 with:
WinMo 6.5
ROM 1.66 WWE
Manila 2.5.1921
C0okies Home Tab 1.8.5
Thank you for your help in advance - I am a heavy user of Google Tasks
and it would be GREAT to be able to synchronise on my phone.
Communication Error: GTL Cookie Not Set
Unfortunately, Got the same problem as above..
I'm working on the problem... I have a suspicion it is related to the fact that Google redirects you to a local server as a part of the authentication process (from www.google.com to i.e. www.google.co.uk) and that that server produces sligthly different output or cookies than the one I'm testing against. I'll see if I can force google to go to a specific server.
Just to be sure.. If one of you please could test GogTasks v1.1 that would be great. I just want to rule out it's not an error I introduced in v2.0 or 2.1. You can get the version from www.gogtasks.com
Works on Samsung sch-i910 on Verizon USA.
Sync on startup and on demand works well. Auto sync would be the best, but it would be useful if, when you close it, it would notify you that a task has been edited without being synced.
Nicely done, I've been hoping for something like this. Hope Google doesn't break it.
I think I am using v. 1.1 and it syncs, even if sometimes it refuses to.
How can I check the Gogtasks version I have (I don't remember which one I installed...)?

Plug your device to your computer, copy the following file from the device to your PC: \program files\gogtasks\MobileEntities.dll. Right-click on the copy of the file and check Properties>Details>Product version. The two first numbers indicate major/minor version.

[GUIDE] To make push notifications work in facebook app

On reading this some may think it sounds stupid(as the original post says ) but believe me, this thing worked for me.
First up, you’ll have to head to the Blackberry developers’site. You’ll need to download two packages:
- Blackberry Device Simulator 7.0 (177MB)
- Blackberry Email and MDS Services Simulator Package (44.2MB)
The former contains the device emulator which includes the Facebook app, and the latter allows said emulator to connect to the internets. As a testament to how archaic parts of Research In Motion's site are, you’ll have to download an ‘Akamai NetSession Inferface Console’ plugin to get hold of the Email and MDS package, but that can be readily uninstalled when you’re done with it.
After you’ve installed the two packages, launch the emulator. It’ll be under Start/All Programs/Research In Motion/Blackberry Simulators 7.0.0/7.0.0.362 (9350)/9350. Launching this brings up a seemingly-useless blank command prompt window, followed by the emulator itself, which may need scaling depending on your PC’s screen size. It’ll take a wee while to load up, then boot you into the standard non-touchscreen Blackberry interface. Now you’re in business.
- 1. Firstly, grab your Android phone. Make sure you have the latest version of Facebook installed from the market.
- 2. Head to Settings/Applications/Manage Applications. Tap on Facebook, then clear cache and data. Set your Android phone aside.
- 3. Now jump back on the PC and get into the Blackberry emulator as outlined above. Use your mouse to click on the little Blackberry flag button twice, which will bring up the ‘app drawer’. Use the mouse to move the square D-pad to the Facebook icon, and click the D-pad to launch.
- 4. Sign in to Facebook on the Blackberry emulator with your regular details. Thankfully, the PC keyboard works, you don’t have to painstakingly click each key on the on-screen Blackberry keyboard!
- 5. Wait for your feed to load in the Blackberry Facebook app. Once it’s updated with your information, simply log out again.
- 6. Head to desktop Facebook on your PC. Make sure you’re logged in, then hit the little drop-arrow next to the Home button, and click on Account Settings. While you’re here, take note of the icon next to Notifications down the left-hand side – you’ll be seeing a lot more of this icon very soon.
- 7. Click on ‘Apps’ down the left-hand side, and make sure ‘Facebook for Blackberry Smartphones’ is authorised. If it’s not, try logging back in on the Blackberry emulator again.
[P.S :: The 'Facebook for Blackberry Smartphones' didn't appear in my list so if the same happens to you don't panic, just got to the notifcations tabs on the left hand side and look for 'All notifications' and click on other applications and authorise the 'Blackberry Smartphones app', it worked for me.]
- 8. Pick your Android phone up once more, and launch the Facebook app. Sign in (Since you cleared data & cache earlier). Once you see your news feed, hit the News Feed logo up top to take you to the app’s main menu. Then press the Menu button, go to Settings, and make sure there is a tick next to Notifications, and the Messages/Friend Requests/Event Invites/Vibrate/LED/Notification Ringtone options are enabled or disabled to your tastes. Personally, I like to put that Facebook Pop notification sound to good use – note that it’s set to silent by default.
- 9. You can also set the refresh interval to Never, since these are push notifications, and your feed doesn’t have to auto-refresh.
- 10. Bang, you’re done. Get used to seeing that new notification icon, because wall posts, comments, and replies are going to be pushed your way within a few minutes of being added.

update : its working awesome thankx buddy. thanked u also.
Confirmed. It works
But I was like waiting for the BB Emulator to show the notifications and it didn't show up. Seems like there was a problem for FB to push notification to BB emulator.
So I continued logging in the FB Android app and it started showing the notification in less than 2 seconds with Edge Data.
This is great.
Now if push notification can work for liking and tagging, it would be great !
This appears to have worked for me. It should be noted that neither Facebook for Android or Facebook for Blackberry show up on my apps list. I assume this is a change Facebook made to not show the native apps.
I have frozen Friendcaster with Titanium backup so I'll be interested to see if the notifications will continue correctly when I defrost Friendster. I'm not sure if Friendcaster will attempt to compete for notifications or not.
I did not delete Friendster from the list off apps with permissions, so I'm hopeful that it won't interfere.
No Blackberry app appeared under "apps" on Facebook after logging in on the Blackberry Simulator.
What am I doing wrong?
Nothing, these instructions are probably slightly outdated. For me, neither Facebook for Android or Facebook for Blackberry shows up. I distinctly remember Facebook for Android showing up in the past, so this must be a recent change.
If you've logged in with the BB emulator and gone through the various menus and turned on anything about notifications it should work (did for me at least)
Unfortunately, don't expect to get "like" or event notifications. Those apparently aren't included in the push system yet. I still have email notifications as well as fRiendcaster for that reason.

Really don't want to install an app just to download something else!

Found a way to use google now to update facebook status.

Not sure if anyone else has ever thought about this but i have worked up a way to update my facebook status directly from google now on my g watch using tasker and the google search api. So now i just have to say "ok google...facebook post...(anything i say after that gets posted as my status). Have been thinking about doing this for a while and finally figured it all out last night. What i used to do this was tasker/ google search api/ and autovoice. If anyone wants to know the full process i can try to explain it in a post, not sure how many people would be interested in something like that.
Interested!
Step 1. Obtain secret facebook email address http://email.about.com/od/Facebook-...Your-Secret-Facebook-Upload-Email-Address.htm
2. Make sure you have Google search api version 1.4 installed. You can get it here https://www.dropbox.com/s/cev1js6f8ddscsm/GoogleSearchAPI.apk?dl=0 Also install sendsilentmail plugin for tasker and autovoice.
3. Import profile (https://www.dropbox.com/s/7dt4u7uq1jpv8r9/Facebook_Post.prf.xml?dl=0) and go into the sendsilentmail plugin in the profile and input your own email for sender address and for "to address" put in secret facebook email address obtained in step 1.
Than save and back out of profile reboot phone. Now just say "ok google...Facebook post ..(say what you want the post to say quickly but clearly) and voila post made to facebook using Google now
Remember you must be rooted and have xposed framework installed to have this work. If you run into any issues I'll try my best to help.
Will work on seeing if it's possible without root access.
