I'm in the middle of getting ready to possibly moving to Metro PCS with my Note 3 in tow. While I was on the Sprint service I have rooted my phone a few time using the Odin methods. I was wondering after I jump ship to the other carrier and want root, must I use another rom for my root or can I use the same one I've been using already (for Sprint carried devices)?

A friend of mine has tasked me to help him as I have some experience with rooting, unlocking etc from other Android phones. Someone sold him a Metro PCS version of the LG Optimus L9 and he has a family plan on T-Mobile. He wants to give this phone to his daughter. Anyways, Since the phone runs on the T-Mobile network, is it possible to flash the phone so that he can put it on his T-Mobile plan? I have looked through the forums and have not found anything of this nature but I do apologize if I have missed it. It is not necessary to go into great detail for this, I jsut want to know if it is possible and a good place to start if it is possible. Thanks for your time!

The only thing I can assume would work is tp buy an unlock code on ebay or amazon and unlock it. t-mobile blows where I am so I unlocked my phone and am now on att
Sent from a Crackhead Donkey
im sure it would work. i have a rooted tmobile branded L9 using a slightly modified metro rom with a tmo sim. it actually shows metro under about phone/network. it is rooted. so if u havent already tried a puting a tmo sim in it and seeing if it worked then rooting might be your answer.
I just bought a brand new Verizon S4 that has never been activated on Verizon for $125. I am trying to get it working with a prepaid carrier in the US. I have been reading that it can be done with T-Mobile and ATT but am not sure where to start with this thing. For starters, the Android OS version is 4.3. I know there is an update out for it through Verizon. I can't do the update OTA with no Verizon service. I'd like to get this thing as close to stock Android/Samsung as possible and kill all the Verizon BS and then get it working on StraightTalk, Cricket, SIMple Mobile, or MetroPCS. Can anyone give me a good place to start or any tips. I've flashed ROMs before, changed PRLs, etc, so I'm no dummy when it comes to this stuff. The terminology/technology has changed some since I was messing with Boost Mobile phones. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Try searching.
You will need to ODIN to 4.4.2.
You will then need to root with "towelroot".
The phone should work with most any GSM carrier with the right setting. (T-Mobile, AT&T and Metro GSM).
Which will give you LTE, I can't answer.

I have used ODIN before when working with my Samsung Galaxy Prevail through Boost Mobile so I'm sure I can figure it out. Thanks for the info. I tried searching and found all kinds of different terminology such as SafeStrap and talking about the different bootloaders. It's a little overwhelming, but I'm sure I can figure it out. I did all of my original stuff through AndroidForums and there as a root section with all kinds of guides, FAQs, etc. Is there a beginners guide or FAQ for the Verizon S4?
I have read where I need to change the APN settings to get HSPA+ or 4G LTE with the different GSM carriers. It seems like HSPA+ is the best I'll get and that's through ATT. I'll keep digging! Thanks!
Hello I recieved this phone from a friend which had told me the phone was carrier unlocked.
I am currently a AT&T customer.
I went to the AT&T Store locally and had the woman get me a new SIM card and activate it.
My internet did not work so I told the woman I can figure it out and left the store.
I then edited my APN settings to "phone" and all the proper settings that are posted for the Galaxy S6 Edge AT&T
I now have horrible service. Just like T-Mobile does in my entire area that is why no one bothers to use it unless you live in town even then it wont work inside your own house.
I feel like all the information is somewhere in this forum but I have spent quite a bit of time searching around to only find small pieces of answers.
Questions:
What Bands does the tmobile version run on?
Is this phone fully compatible with AT&T LTE? If not what speeds am I limited to?
Should I be running a different bootloader?
I'm currently on 6.0.1 Android stock tmobile. Can I flash to a debloated firmware without tripping knox? Which ones? Are there features I may loose?
Should I downgrade to stock 5.11 tmobile first then root then flash to debloat?
What is the safest and best way to root the phone?
Should I care about Knox if I have no warranty and dont plan on sending it in ever because of this?
Thank you in advance everyone I appreciate the help.
Please help

That thread will show you how to switch your phone into a Verizon phone and then it should work fine. I've done it twice and it worked, once from Verizon to att and then att to t mobile and all carrier features worked both times.

The note 8 works accross the board and if brought from Samsung can be unlocked even if not paid off, while one brought from a carrier needs to be paid off to unlock. After unlock the phone can work on all USA carriers ( major ones I know of ). Overseas might be something different but I am sure a Sim based plan will work. Now if you want carrier bloat and features there is a way to download that etc. So Verizon should work with no issue if you are unlocked. Good luck
t-mobile note 8 works on verizon
guys
i have seen a lot of instructions on flashing and changing carriers for t-mobiles note 8 and was ready to take the plunge but i paid my phone off completely and used t-mobiles device unlock app that came with the phone popped in my Verizon sim and its working fine it even says Verizon at startup . internet works great i didn't have to change apn or anything i just works
i think the main thing is to get it unlocked with the device unlock software and not the unlock code from eBay etc.
before i paid it off i tried the temp. unlock and could not get Verizon to register at all I was just ready to flash Verizon software with samfail and Odin but im glad I checked first because it looks scary like if you make a mistake you might brick your phone or trip Knox or void warranty.
I went back to my S7 Edge and got rid of the 9:35 V and put in a 935u AIO and order to use it with my Cricket carrier well my old Cricket phone and j727az is not compatible with Verizon and my friend busted his phone and he has Verizon I was going to give him my j7. But it won't work with Verizon I have it unlocked I have the values for APN and that whole series but it still doesn't want to recognize Verizon carrier Verizon will not work with it can I just flash a different firmware into it what is compatible with that you guys have the knowledge I don't any suggestions would be much appreciated
