So I came to lake Tahoe a couple days back ,and in the boat I dropped my phone without a case. Nothing not even a scratch to the rest of the phone and the screen didn't even get cracked. But the power button got dented inward and jammed up . Anything I do it doesn't work . I never knew the buttons are so fragile. It's so crazy that it couldn't even withstand a less the waist high drop .

Yes, the should be made from steel, just for you. Drops the phone, gets a dent, blames the material.
Solution: don't drop the phone
Though I agree the material of the buttons seems a little flimsy. I sorta jammed it putting a case on and I swear it's less clicky now.

I don't there's much they can do to make a switch withstand that kind of force. I think you just got unlucky and the switch took the force in just the right (wrong) way to damage it.

When I first got my Nexus 6p; I thought the EXACT same thing.. Its like I barely pressed the power button; something just didn't feel right about it.
I ended up finding out it was an issue with my phone case (I was previously using a Spigen Rugged Armor). I purchased a Diztronic Ultra (my favorite case I used for my old phone, the OnePlus One; and then for the OnePlus Two). As soon as I switched to the new case; the power button seemed to feel much more "functional" and feel like it should.
I'm not sure if this is the scenario for you; but hopefully this may bring some insight on your issue.
I think all phone buttons are quite fragile, and their position is (partly) meant to protect them when dropped.
You had very bad luck, but it's no surprise that a direct drop on the button can actually break it. On the other hand, N6P's button is quite soft and easy to press, this *might* cause it to be more fragile than other phones'.
Skickat från min Nexus 6P via Tapatalk
The button isn't specifically fragile... you dropped it and it must have hit the power button in a certain way causing the damage.
Think of how small the button is, even if it was make of something stronger, would probably still get damaged if dropped directly on it.

There is no such thing as a Diztronic Ultra for the 6P. You must have something else, perhaps the Full Matte. The power button on the 6P is, however a disgrace to whoever designed it, to the point where I found it unusable when the phone is naked or in a case that does not cover it. The Spigen Rugged Armor stiffens it up to an extent for me, but I have still set the phone to request confirmation on power down and reboot, and to use the proximity sensor to prevent accidental reboots in my pocket.
Power button has been less and less clicky to me. Has been an issue in both 6ps at home. I've since installed a custom kernel and use Swipe2Sleep to turn off the display.

My mistake, I was actually referring to the Diztronic Full Matte. I had the Diztronic Ultra for my old phones; the OnePlus One & the OnePlus Two. I do agree with the disappointment in the power button. For being the current Google Fi top smartphone, the power button feels like some cheap knockoff prepaid smartphone.

Welp I shattered my screen. I have insurance for it and my new one is already on the way. I am going to return it to the stock rom, but was wondering if there is a way to remove TWRP and get the stock secure kernel back. I know it will still say tampered/relocked but does anybody think there will be any issues when they get this one back?

It is actually very sturdily built. I got a door slammed on my hand (which was holding the phone) and I dropped it onto asphalt from a height of about 6 feet. It landed almost completely flat with the glass facing down. Just bad luck on my part. I ordered a case for it, but it hadn't arrived yet. The back of the phone is covered in a silicone that is very grippy. I will say the glass on the front is EXTREMELY slick. It curves to the edges so there is no plastic or metal of any sort on the front panel. Its solid glass. When I set it on top of my closed laptop while face down it will gradually slide off even though the incline is just a few degrees away from perpendicular. I don't consider this to be an issue with build quality whatsoever. The only reason I consider it strange is because there is a notification light on the back, but I dont trust it to sit facedown anywhere due to fears that it will slide off just about any surface that isnt 110% flat. It feels better under my thumbs than any other phone I have ever had and the screen seems to resist getting covered in fingerprint smears. Its very stylish and looks gorgeous, just something to be aware of.

So, I've been reading all the news on the 6P---cracking glass, "flexible" backs, easy scratches. I normally carry my phones in my back pocket and never intend sitting with it there. However, I'm sure there have been a few occasions when I've sat and very quickly notice it's there and removed it. Well, tonight I was admiring my little graphite and noticed what appeared to be a very slight bend. I couldn't believe it---thought it was an optical illusion so I set it down on my desk and then saw it. My phone no longer was flat against the desk top. A very slight wobble had developed.
WTF.
I've had soooo many phones and never had this happen before. I had the Nexus 6 and still have the iphone 6s Plus. So, I'm not stranger to big phones. I haven't treated this phone any differently. Every phone has been in a case too. Currently, I'm using a ringke case on my 6P. I guess I'll keep it and just baby the **** out of it. I was able to gently bend it back, but now I'm concerned all the news is true. Cheap chinese crap.

I think there's a lesson to be learned here.
After seeing the bend thread I tried my iPhone 6 + and my Nexus 6, the former I've had since only March and don't use as my daily driver, both phones when flat on the table will wobble when you press them, in fact the iphone is actually noticeably bent. I think slight bends have been happening for years we just haven't noticed them.

I agree with you on "slight bends have been happening for years we just haven't noticed" Just checked on my iPhone6+ and yeah it doesn't sit flat on may table (check the table and the table is flat). I have never put it in my back pocket, but I'm pretty sure the constant pressure from being in a back pocket would speed up the "bending" process even more so if the pants are tight.

Wow, just been to carphone warehouse and had a look at a demo unit, and give it a gentle flex when nobody was looking, and it "went" around the buttons just like everyone else's, so not impressed now, gorgeous looking phone, but I have a 4 year old, and she would ruin that phone. Just to be fair I also had a good go at trying to bend my Note 3, and it didn't budge. I'm shocked the 6p was so soft! Wish LG would hurry up and release the v10 in the UK so I can have a go at that one too.

That demo unit has probably had every person, including strong people, trying to bend it now that there a tool posting FUD videos. I wouldn't trust it. Mine is extremely solid, can't budge it with modest effort. Obviously I'm not going to try with all my strength, that would be idiotic.

Yup, with the additional length of this phone, even in deep front pockets, I've caught myself having to stop when sitting to readjust as the phone catches a bit on my hip. Pulled out the phone several times to notice it looks slightly tweaked. Laying down on the table it rocks. Push just ever so slightly on the two corners that wobble and it straightens out.
It's clearly got some flexing but if it's not a permanent bend, nor impacts the functionality of the phone, what's the big deal? Just tweak it if it bothers you.
I bought a Nexus hoping that this device will last me for years to come.
But I am having doubts that if it will last long without a cover.
I decided not to put a cover on the phone just to make the phone always look good and not be one of those people who are always scared of getting scratches on their phone. However, just after 1 month of usage, the phone is literally having marks and scratches everywhere on the phone (including the visor) except the screen.
Even my 5 and 4 year old Samsung Galaxy 3 and Note 1 which never had a cover either don't have these many scratches, even today.
Why you let me down Huawei?
Is putting a cover the only option I have got?
Hi there,
I have my 6P for 10 months now with case 100% of the time.
Does it help? No.
When I take out the phone, I can see small scratches and dents. This is because some dust particles get in from time to time. This way when the case and the phone move a little touching each other, the surface of the phone is scratched.
It is disappointing.
I have my note 3 which haven't been in a case and it's more than 3 years old now, and does not have so many marks in the back.
This trend to make devices all metal is the dummest thing ever. At least they can put on some coating on the metal or something. :/
This is by far the most fragile phone I've ever had.
I've had mine since Nov 9th 2015. It's been in a case and a tempered glass screen protector since then. Just took it out and it's still mint. No scratches or anything. I also got the graphite.
Agreed, fragile AF!!!! LOL bent two of them in pocket without even doing anything extreme and i dont even wear jeans i wear comfy chinos. LOL so yeah got replacements for those.
TBH i've never seen anyone able to keep their phone in pristine condition with no case. granted they're probably more careful. But AFAIK, the moment they drop it there goes the phone. personally, I'm clumsy enough to warrant a case so i invested in a good Spigen one (see signature) and promptly dropped it on rough tarmac a week into ownership. I'd say if i had no case on, I'd have lost this phone.
Regarding your scratches on your phone, yes. This is aluminum. It's a soft metal. What are you expecting? Have you seen a pristine no case iPhone? This isn't really a "fault". A little bit of adjusting of expectations is in order. I personally like the polycarbonate that I had on my HTC one X of old. Even Samsung's plastic doesn't hold as well against the strength of polycarbonate.
Okay maybe 6p is not the toughest phone around, but comparing it with old samsung devices made of plastic is plain stupid. Its fricking aluminium, soft metal, show me one metal phone without scratches, i can assure you, you cant.
Better to have marks than totally broken phone. I dont use or even have case and I have dropped mine a few times and its not bad. A few marks here on the edges and there and tempered glass has saved the screen once. I have noticed I have much better luck with screens being ok after drops with aluminum phones than I had with plastic ones that always got broken screen when dropped even from low height.
I agree is a bit sensitive, a little flower if you wanna go there.
But it's our responsibility to keep it safe knowing this. I also wanted to use mine naked as it looks better and lighter this way, but it's so prone to on falling and hitting on something that I won't take the chance.
You can get good looking cases as well, Spigen for example looks good and protects it good.
Yeah kills a bit the aspect and gets slightly heavier, but it adds to protection and it's worth it.
Occasionally remove it and clean it to dust it off particles that enter occasionally.

I dont agree. In the past I always had to change my screen once or phone was full of marks if I didnt cover phone in some kind of casing. Now I dont even bother using a case as the last time I broke a screen from a phone was with Note 2 that I dropped into a puddle on asphalt. For example I had really really bad luck with my M8 like slipping a couple of times and it flew many meters high and landed face down and nothing. A few tempered screens but nothing else than some cosmetic marks. I feel the newer are much much better built than the phones like SGS2, Galaxy Nexus, Desire series etc etc.

that silver plating that has come off is the equivalent to any scratches you find on the back of the phone from putting/taking out of your pockets. It's just normal wear and tear. We need to keep in mind the material strength of the metal/plastic/polycarbonate/glass. The 6p's screen uses Corning gorilla glass 4. That stuff is virtually unscratchable from normal use. Of course you're not going to find much scuffs there compared to its soft aluminum body.

Mate, that's a 5 year old phone.
This is a 1 month old phone.
Well as mentioned it is aluminum. By nature, it's a very soft metal. Think soda can. Obviously it isn't going to be indestructible like some older plastic phones you mentioned earlier. If you're looking for a tank of a phone, maybe you should have considered something else. Nexus line was never really meant to be "premium" and has always been cheaper than other highly marketed flagships. Like mentioned earlier, maybe managing expectations based on this info which has always been the case is in order. I get that you don't like it, so maybe your best bet is to sell and get another phone? I can't speak to the Nexus 6, but I've had my Nexus 5 since launch 2013 and it is still in mint condition. For that I only use the bumper case (wraps around the phone, doesn't cover the back) and still no small wear and tear scratches. Just one big one that I accidentally did with a razor blade.

You also have to take into account that Titanium isn't as effective as aluminum when it comes to heat transfer, so you'd have a warmer phone which would suffer from higher amounts of thermal throttling.
So, been using my Spigen Rugged Armour case recently after my dbrand skins pealed away at the top.
Anyway, came to take the case off and noticed lots of silver spots!
It appears something has got inside the case and made tiny dents all over the back and side of the phone!
The pic isn't great, can take a better pic when I get home.
Just can't believe that I have been using a case to protect my phone only to have something attack it
I also noticed just one of those silver spots (not a dent, like the color just rubbed off) after using the Verus case. Graphite model as well.

I have a Verus case on my black 6p. When I put it on and off just a couple of times (to clean the dust from between the case and phone), the entire phone warped due to the pressure of taking the case off.
So I'm holding the bottom of the phone with my left hand, and popping out one of the top corners with my right hand. After I did this a few times, my phone wouldn't lay flat. Then I saw a crease near the volume rocker where the warp happened. I've never seen anything like this and I returned it the following day.
That's why I take of my case (to clean both the back and the case itself) every day after I take a shower.

So I'm holding the bottom of the phone with my left hand, and popping out one of the top corners with my right hand. After I did this a few times, my phone wouldn't lay flat. Then I saw a crease near the volume rocker where the warp happened. I've never seen anything like this and I returned it the following day.

You should have removed the frame (or bumper) first, then the case itself..

I just had to re-read that after your comment. Yeeeeeeep. That's user error, sorry mate. I use the same case and no warping at all. I take it out a lot and switch between the flimsy one that Google sold with it. You always have to remove the frame first, then just kinda peel off the soft part. To state the obvious, you need to do that with every 2-piece case with every phone. If it simply popped out of the case with little to no effort, it wouldn't be very effective, would it?
I would probably be more upset about the spots if I didn't always have a case on it. I'm guessing since it's aluminum, the phone is anodized? That doesn't last forever. It does wear off after a while. I've used other products that were anodized (both aluminum and titanium) and the color never really held up after regular usage so I'm not too upset about it. For me it's a non issue. I don't sell my old phones, I still have my GNex and N5, so it's not like I'm upset it may impact the resale value or anything like that.
If you look into anodizing, it does wear off through normal use (jewelry is a big one) and is completely normal, so I'm not bent out of shape about it. It happens.

User error or not, but the phone case shouldn't be more rigid than the device it's protecting.
Using Caruzer Lite

Maybe I phrased this wrong.
The device shouldn't be as pliable as the case.
I am sitting at work at my desk and I have my phone screen up, I get a couple texts and I DT2W so I can see who they are from. As I do that my phone teters, I notice it immediately and pick it up to see if there was anything under it, nope all smooth, so then I think it's maybe the case wasn't formed evenly (Supcase) so I take the phone out and put the case on the desk, no wobble. So then I lay the phone down and sure enough it wobbles when tapping a corner. It's not bent like you see when people keep their phone in their back pocket and sit on it. Mine is more twisted. When looking at the phone, the top left and bottom right will sit on the table and not wobble, but if you press either the top right or bottom left the phone will wobble back and forth.
I keep my phone in my front pocket and take it out when sitting down,I do sometimes keep it in my pocket when working in attics and such and I have crushed it pretty good when doing so. It's not a major twist and you can't tell when just looking or holding the phone, hopefully it doesn't get any worse.
Anyone else notice this on their phones?
I gave it a firm twist the opposite way and it seems pretty straight now. Maybe even a little bent the opposite way now, dammit haha.

That's wild! Amazing you were able to twist it back ok....
Mine does the same thing whenever I remove my case to clean out the pocket lint. Removing the case puts a lot of stress on the corners and twists it, but it usually goes back to normal after waiting a day or two, or if I twist it back.

heard that removing the case on the opposing side of the power and volume helps.
Sucks for you guys. Mine is still flat

I always remove the left side (opposite of the buttons) first, then install the case right side (buttons side) first to avoid putting stress on the buttons. It doesn't bend badly, just enough to wobble when on the table. It almost always sorts itself out after about a day or so.
Mine is currently flat too, until I remove the case for cleaning again...
I guess mine could be from the case too. It is pretty hard to get in and out.
Mines flat for the time being. But now that I've seen it bend I think I will catch myself checking every so often now.

It's made like that. ? jk. These phones are great but pretty thin. I'm using my Spigen case now on Nexus 6p #2 but think I'll get a tough case Monday so I dont have to sweat this.. ?

I get a wobble too when it sits on a flat surface. Oh well.

I'm on my 3rd Nexus 6p. They have all ended up warped like what you have described. I carry my phone in my front pocket as I have with any phone I've ever had.

These phones are pretty notorious for bends/warps. There was a thread about it since the beginning that was since locked because of trolls. Both my phones ended up with kinks near the volume button. Never got worse than that though. I'll probably never buy huwaii again though

we have been over this before and the threads keep getting shut down, we had over a hundred people on here in a single thread with bent phones. I was one, but now I have a phone that bootloops so basicaly,
I trust huawei to build a durable phone as much as I trust a fart the morning after a night of bud light and taco bell.

Haha. Mine wasn't bent yet (I'm on 6p #2) but I read this thread and got jealous and curious and went ahead and intensionally sat on mine omw home from work and now I have that new flex screen. [emoji23] I'm totally kidding. I was using a 5x after my 1st 6p was accidentally broken and man I tell you what this thing blows the 5x off the map sideways. I'd forgotten just how fast and battery friendly the 810 truly. Glad to be back. ?

Ditto, I have the same kink near the volume button. Just bent it back slightly but put a crease in the slanted edge...
Great looking phone but it just the shear size and thickness of the phone I think. The Pixel XL is smaller.
