Moving away from official MIUI rom to Xiaomi.eu rom - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

I've just unlocked my bootloader and want to move away from official ROMs forever. I've downloaded the latest eu ROM (6.5.26). Should I flash TWRP in fastboot mode and should I select Read-Only ? I'm confused. By the way, I don't want OTAs, I'll just download the latest full ROM every month and dirty flash it.

Just swipe to allow modifications since you are not concerned about OTA and proceed to install Xiaomi.eu Rom in TWRP.

Noob question on updating

I'm currently running MIUI 8 global dev ROM with officially unlocked bootloader, and there's a new update for it. Problem is, I rooted my phone already and I'm not sure if updating it will get rid of root. Also, twrp doesn't stick for some reason, so it's not very convenient to just flash SuperSU.zip after updating.
Install zcx recovery (search on MIUI forums )..that'll help you to receive ota updates (so you don't have to download and flash the entire ROM all the time ).if you follow the instructions on installing zcx recovery then that twrp will stick ..after that you can install SuperSU after updating ROM .

Bootloop after flashing rr nougat

Hey guys.
I'm using a 32/3GB kenzo with an unlocked bootloader running official rr mm.
I formatted the phone, flashed CM14 firmware, flashed the official RR nougat and GAPPS, then rebooted to system.
At this point, it started bootlooping, booting to the MI splashscreen, staying there for about half the time it usually does, before rebooting and repeating the process.
At this point, I was unable to access recovery, but was able to access fastboot and edl.
Flashing a recovery using the "fastboot flash recovery" command failed, so I assume that the partitions were corrupted.
I had to revert to MIUI by flashing through edl using MI flash, which fixed all the issues.
Can someone tell me what I did wrong?
Or should I follow the newbie guide 2.0 from the forums?
Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

Which recovery you uaed for flashing rr n. Because you went bootloop and recovery was not able to access that means may be some problems in recovery or either in rom/gapps zip. Make sure you are flashing gapps for NOUGAT only. And use latest stable miui firmware (not cm14 zip one although may be both are same)
Try this
1. Flash zcx recovery (I recommend this, never disappointed)
2. Flash latest miui stable firmware
3. Flash rom zip
4. Flash gapps n
Boot to system
5. Then flash kernel or anything.

Thanks for the reply, I'll try it soon. Can you tell me how to get the miui stable firmware?
Should I fastboot flash latest MIUI stable before flashing the ROM or is there a MIUI firmware zip file to flash?

There is flashable zip file which is extracted from miui rom only. So both way will be good as flash latest stable miui rom and then twrp > rom zip > gapps. Or twr0 > firmware zip (search in any custom rom thread you will get one) > custom rom zip > gapps.
Only benefit of flashing firmware zip is less time consuming and less file size (around 50mb) compare to full miui rom.

About keeping OTA and TWRP

Just unlocked the bootloader , latest MIUI global beta. Here are the questions which needs valid answers
1. Need to flash TWRP and root. Which twrp image will not need any encryption disabler flashed every time I flash a rom? please give the link of the most stable and recent version of it.
2. I will flash magisk. How will it behave with OTA on miui global beta?
3. Will I receive OTA update? If I do, how to flash it properly? I dont want to roll back to stock recovery just to flash an ota and then again flash twrp. And I dont want to flash full rom either.
4. If I am able to flash OTA through twrp, do I have to wipe anything? Im asking if I will loose any data or not.
5. As far as I know, I need to unroot everytime before I flash OTA? what does that mean actually? If im rooted, will I not be notified of the OTA update through the updater app? Or do I have to manually downlaod the ota from the web?
6. And one more thing. I dont want the clock on the top left in any screen, lock or home. Which mod will remove the clock and add regular notification icon? (working with miui beta ofcourse)

I can answer your questions partially.
2 & 3. Flashing TWRP and Magisk will result in OTA zip not being downloaded. Instead, the full ROM will be downloaded automatically.
4. AFAIK, you can't flash the OTA zip through TWRP.
5. If you want the OTA, you will have to be completely stock, no modifications to system files. Only then the OTA zip will download and only then you can flash it. You will ofcourse be notified of the availability of the OTA zip even if you are rooted but it will not download because it does a check of your system before downloading. Only the full zip will download if you are rooted.
It is much easier (atleast for me) to accept the full download and flash it through TWRP and then boot back to TWRP (to preserve it and to avoid overwriting by stock recovery) before booting into system. If you only wipe Dalvik and cache, there is no need to reflash TWRP and Magisk. Ofcourse if TWRP gets overwritten somehow, then flashing it and Magisk again is not a big thing.

OrangeFox Recovery has a feature to disable force encryption without flashing the DFE.zip everytime you flash a custom rom.
And it supports MIUI OTA Updates.

Some custom roms are AOSP based so all MIUI bloatware or features are not available in AOSP based custom roms.

Updating MIUI Global Dev ROM with root

I have the MIUI Global Developer ROM installed, and I've also flashed the Disable-Dmverity and Magisk v19. As I have TWRP instead of the stock recovery, I cannot update the ROM through the updater, as it will go into TWRP and reboot at the splash screen, without the update being carried out. If I flash back the original boot.img (I did flash the original recovery.img, but it still doesn't work), will I lose Magisk root? Otherwise, I'd have to download the ROM zip every time a new version comes out and flash it with TWRP, which isn't a problem for me, but I like the convenience of the updater

How to do a clean flash?

Hi all,
I followed the updates and bugs of the new version and decided to keep my pie system until annoying bugs for me would have gone, so I've decided that is the right time for a clean flash of my device.
I'm currently on stock rom, with unlocked bootloader, magisk and much more.
I wanted to ask how can I do a clean flash of the latest version of the released Android 10, in a way that I erase everything on my phone, put the new rom, and keep magisk and unlocked bootloader.
If I flash through the fastboot image, I get to unlock the bootloader again? How does it work with double partition and the newest android versions?
I miss my opo with lineage and no partitions or recovery problems
