A "special" s5 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

So, I've read around the threads and haven't found anyone with my particular issue as of yet (unless I missed it).
My gf was with Verizon and had a Galaxy S5. She switched over to T-Mobile and has been able to use the phone normally (data, calling, etc.).
The phone was a little bit boggy and there was still a massive amount of bloatware from Verizon.
Is there a way to root this? I've tried towelroot (which failed), tried Odin (which failed)... I've unlocked dev options, checked the proper settings, etc... (I've been rooting all kinds of phones since Android G1).
The phone info:
Phone name: Samsung-SM-G900V
Model number: SM-G900V
Android Version: 5.0
Baseband version: G900VVRU1BOC4
Kernel version: 3.4.0 [email protected] #1
Build number: LRX21T.G900VVRU1BOC4
SE for Android status: Enforcing SEPF_SM-G900V_5.0_0002
Hardware version: G900V.05
Knox Version 2.3
Configuration version: J13.SAM.SMG900V.1
Thank you

Spitballing here, but I would say your best bet is to flash a custom recovery (in ODIN) from the klte build and flash a Cyanogenmod-based ROM + gApps from there. That will take care of the bloat. From my understanding, the majority of s5's (across carriers) have the same hardware and can flash just about anything (EXCEPT MODEMS/BASEBANDS) that is klte-based. I use Cyanogenmod 13 on my tMobile g900t s5 daily with no issues, but you may want to double check the supported phones in the ROM listing. Bliss is also an excellent option for a clean, user-friendly interface.

due to the fact you have a verizon version of the phone, the bootloader is LOCKED therefore its very difficult to root and extremely difficult to use custom rom.
I've had same phone before, i was able to root and use titanium backup to remove bloats.
i was also able to use (some) custom roms but selection is limited due to the software you need to use to fake unlock its bootloader.
at this point, i'd say your best bet is to go to just find a root that works... search http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5

Indeed, it is a difficult process. The majority of phones I have rooted in the past were either T-Mobile or International. However, with it being a Verizon phone, it is a lot more difficult when it comes to rooting.
I have already searched that Verizon GS5 forum for ways to root and have tried practically all feasible methods with no avail, which is why I turned towards creating this post.
Thanks for your response, though. I'm hoping someone who has rooted a Verizon phone before post their process in doing so.

[Q] Questions about choosing the right rom, the kernel ...

Hi,
I have a Galaxy S3, unbranded purchased in South Africa. I live in Serbia. Although I read a lot of forum about root still there are things that I have found and I do not understand.
About phone:
Model number: GT-I9300
Android version: 4.1.2
Baseband version: I9300XXELLA or CP:I9300XXELLA
Kernel version: 3.0.31-836582
Build number: JZ054K.I9300XXEMA2 or AP: I9300XXEMA2 and,
CSC: I9300JVEMA1
Because the phone was not taken to the contract, was not cheap (650eur), I would like to turn it into a brick.
First, I do not have a lot of apps, but the phone is a lot slower than when it was new - empty, otherwise is 5 months old. In the task manager, after killing all processes, 20 remain active, and only 150MB of RAM, known to fall at 80MB. Processes that kill will always return immediately, so that you only have to stop, but do not know which are needed and which are not. Probably when the phone root, there are more options in terms of this. Now we come to the question of.
I know that at root, it must taking care of versions, but I would particularly like someone said, the above things which must be matched and what might not.
For example: Baseband version must be the same version but does not have, you can make this and that, or Build number must be the same version but does not have, you can make this and that and and at the end of CSC must be the same version but does not have. You know what I mean.
I read on the forum, it must first model to be the same, meaning I9300, then build number, if all must be the same, in my case JZ054K.I9300KKEMA2 or just the first part JZ054K?
I know that the CSC does not need to be the same, this is a South African, would I have got if you would put a European or Serbian?
I see the signatures of various kernel, how do I know that I can use on my phone?
I know that these questions are for you who know the funny, but to us who are novices in this not so much. If there were no consequences if something goes wrong, the financial think there would be no problem experimenting, but this just is not. Not urgent, slow when you have time, you respond.
Appreciate in advance.
Cheers !!!
There is always risk when you try to flash something on your phone that it could never go on again. The risk is pretty small but it`s there.
If you still want to Root, there are several different methods, one very easy way is to flash a Kernel, that will Root your device.
Since you have Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean installed you can flash the Siyah Kernel. This Kernel will root your device and it supports all Samsung Jelly Bean ROMs.
You can get it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709686
Download the tar file and flash it through Odin.

[Q] New to me S4 and lots of questions, please help a newb

Hello all,
So I received my new to me S4, and prior to activating it I wanted to Fist get rid of Knox and put on a custom ROM.However, after much reading I am just more confused. I hoping that someone will just give me the Dummies guide to rooting, nixn' Knox and installing a custom ROM (hyperdrive, or CM).
Like first go download these apps, next do this, then that, kinda instructions.
the phone I received is an:
SCH-i545
Android Version 4.4.2
Baseband I545VRUFNC5
Kernal 3.4.0 [email protected]#1
Build# K0T49H.I545VRUFNC%
SE for Android Status: Enforcing; SEPF_SCH_I545_4.4.2_0011
Secure boot Status Type: Samsung
Security software version: MDF v1.0 Release 2
Hope this is not too much info, but I read all kind of post that seem to condradict one another, just when I think I've found the info I read something else that makes me feel this could lead to disaster. Please help. The last android I had was a Droid Eris, and things seem to have changed quite a bit.
Thanks

Read my whole post linked below. It is accurate. Do not upgrade to NG6, it is a pain and has root but no custom rom capability (yet). On NC5 however, you can flash a ROM using Safestrap (Do not use the safestrap linked in the thread below (3.72), use the safestrap in the general forum (3.75)). DO NOT FLASH TWRP OR CWM. We have a locked bootloader and flashing those is impossible as of yet.
With safestrap, you cannot flash CM, AOSP, or anything that contains a custom kernel. You can flash Hyperdrive, eclipse, and in rare cases Google Edition (The Safestrap version only!!! Not the normal Google edition!)

Thanks npjohnson! very helpful, slow day here in Cisco VOIP land so, I was messing around and got Towelroot, and Root checker. After those two, I installed SuperSU, Thanks Tomsgt! It has all worked so far and SuperSU as apparently disabled Knox…. So Im on my way here. Your post should now take me all the way home. Thanks again! :highfive:

Samsung S4 Verizon locked advice requested. Rom Flash and Root or just Root needed?

Hello there my Aunt bought a Samsung S4 in the UK for a friend and it is locked to the Verizon network. I built my own wee PC so I won't need kid gloving through the whole procedure, but what I would appreciate is some advice on what I might need to do in terms of effecting an unlock so the device can function on the UK networks. Will I need to just Root, or will I need to Flash an alternate OS to remove all trace of Verizon software, and then Root the new OS if I wish?
http://www.xda-developers.com/root/#samsung
I found this page, relating to the S4, will this do the job? If so great. I don't have an SD but I do have a wireless connection on the phone but I might need the memory on the SD to apply the root or the Flash as I understand. A little basic advice in terms of hardware required and recommended actions would really help a lot.
Android Version 5.0.1
Baseband I545VRUGOC1
KERNAL 3.4.0
SEC SOFT MDF v1.0 / VPN v1.4
HARDWARE I545.06
My Aunt also has a OnePlus One (Cyanogen) bought on my recommendation, I think rooting might be wise to allow me to lower the CPU clock a little and eek more battery life out of it, do you agree and do you find rooting to be beneficial without overcomplicating things?
Many thanks in advance
Sincerely
Lumpy

First of all, I don't know about the UK, but make sure your carrier has the same antennas as the s4.
Second, since you have OC1, you need to use the Desktop King root, google it(its chinese, all we have)..
Third, The only ROM that works on OC1 is Stang5litre's ROM and his Phoenix Port.
Fourth, as far as the CPU clock, someone else can answer that.
Fifth, for the kingroot, you need your PC and a USB cable.
TBH there are kernel editing apps with root, but the s4 charges in one hour and has a replaceable battery. Using xposed greenify and stang5litres rom lasts me the day with spare. AFAIK the Phoenix port is mdk/safestrap only, and the albe65 s6 port is also an option. Another root gaining method is wondershare, which is in English. Stang5litre's rom gives a huge boost in battery life and is bloat free, so I recommend rooting and maybe flashing. If your feeling savvy maybe even try xposed(use the one modified for Samsung). The s4 without root is good but to truly have the full power, use root. Unlike some devices, rooting and flashing won't void you warrantee atleast with wondershare for root and flashfire for flashing. Just flash stock with Odin if you send it for repairs.

Need some general pointers about Custom ROM's

First I'd describe myself as a PC power user, but android Noob, I have no issues with actually doing things, and find the instructions provided, are all I need
My only previous android knowledge was Rooting and installing Custom ROM on a standard S3 Mini.
That allowed me full control, to remove 95% of the apps, (unwanted by me). It was a very easy process and I was happy with all, except screen size.
I'm a PC user, on my high end system 12 to 16 hours a day and know how that environment works, mobile has no great appeal for me. I simply want phone and browser, and apart from a few utilities and a basic notepad, need very little else.
I only use my mobile to read/write on forums like this, mostly concerned with modding PC Games, that's what eats all those hours on PC.
I'm not the typical mobile user, I just want full control of any device I use.
I bought a second hand S5 advertised as Stock and unlocked, which turned out locked to Vodafone, so I demanded it was unlocked. That wasn't possible, (sure it was, but at what price?).
I wasn't paying more for it, than the original price and was offered a brand new unlocked model, but it would be a contract phone unlocked. That for the price of the second hand model, seemed OK.
Then I find it's a T-Mobile and not the standard S5, which makes this process a lot more complicated. I've successfully Rooted the phone, but it's a stock ROM, now I'm looking for a Custom ROM, to allow me full control of the device.
All the T-Mobile/Google/Samsung Bloatware (95% of stock) is still there and uninstallable. A few other strange issues are present. Like Titanium Backup cant Write to my External SD, yet it's writable, FileManagerHD works fine.
So I want a basic custom ROM that gives me full control, I don't need to ask these basic questions on PC, I simply RTFM, but I'm unused to fighting for full control, I didn't even know that custom provider hardware was an issue, before this happened, I need some pointers as to where to look.
Any restrictions that I can't change, pretty basic stuff, but knowing what applies to the model i have, isn't so apparent, and I'm not 100% sure I even know all the specs to check, a link to where to find out is all I need, I can then RTFM and get on with making this device do what I want
The details I know make a difference are these
Current SIM = GiffGaff PAYG (Basic with no mobile data allowed, I will not even enter the required details)
Android version = 5.1.1
Baseband version = G900TUVU1FOG6
Root and StockROM = [ROOT/KERNEL] Root Method for FOG6 / 5.1.1 by ShinySide
Warranty and KNOX already voided, I don't care.
Thanks for reading to here, Let me know if more specs are required.
@Uhuru N'Uru I would highly recommend CyanogenMod 13, specifically, this version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...t/4-4-4-cm11-rom-temaseks-unofficial-t2907450
In case you're confused by all the different S5 variants and development codenames, this device is klte
I just flashed Cyanogenmod 13 a couple days ago on my T-Mobile S5, and I am thrilled with it, so far it is working perfectly after 2 days of very heavy use and I have not found anything wrong with it. I have free wifi tethering now!
I downloaded it from here but I went with the latest tested release (cm-13.0-20151227-UNOFFICIAL-klte.zip), instead of a nightly build:
forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/unified-development/rom-cyanogenmod-13-0-android-6-0-t3237502
I'm not sure how it is different from the Temasek MM versions... Can someone explain whats the difference?
I spent hours deciding whether to stay with a custom 5.1.1 Lolipop or upgrade to 6.0.1 Marshmallow. I'm extremely happy with MM. My phone is awesome now, I had some bad lagging problems and was annoyed with all of the bloatware on the stock firmware.
Oh yeah and I have FOL1 baseband version. No idea what that means...

Temasek version has more options (mostly but not all theming) in system settings (I also think it has better battery life but that could be me). FOL1 baseband just means you have the most recent modem and bootloader installed on your phone, it's a good thing
Ok actually after more days of heavy use, I have found a couple of things that aren't working right in CM13. GPS doesn't work correctly in Google Maps, and I can't get text suggestions to work (predicting the next word I will type). I guess I should start reading the 6920 posts in the CM13 thread and see if there are fixes...

Which model # is more important?

I understand that the thread title seems like I am being a complete noob (although to be fair, I am).
My journey with this S6 Edge thus far:
I have a Canadian variant (G925W8) and managed to soft brick it through sheer idiocy. I then learned a ton of stuff from you guys here on the forums. My intent is to get this phone running in as close to stock form as possible, however the bloatware apps are not needed. I eventually got one thing working and then the next and currently the phone has XtreStoLite 3.3.1 Marshmallow Rom installed (found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...xtrestolite-deodexed-mod-edition-1-3-t3119968)
I went after the Marshmallow install using the files indicated in that thread. So I have a Marshmallow bootloader, modem etc.
So now I can get into why my title is so strange. When I booted into the phone (which, for the most part, is working alright) I went to enable developer options again and noticed that my model number indicated in the phone is now a G925F. During the install of the custom rom, I made sure to select all options to indicate that my phone was a W8 variant and yet this is what the phone is reporting back to me.
The reason I have this question is because I am looking to get rid of the custom rom, for the aforementioned 'mostly working' comment, and go full stock firmware. Would I be able to find an F variant stock firmware and load that straight on? If yes, do I also need to switch over the bootloader and modem files to an F variant as those are probably hardware based? Which model number matters more? How much is the firmware version reliant on the hardware model number?
In the meantime I will tinker with the Aroma add-ons to get all the functionality the way I want it.
Thanks for any replies on this matter.
