I am on the fence here..Had Note 3 love Amoled but hate Tw and the plastic...I did have the M7 loved it, but camera was bad....Did not like the G3 ...thinking of the M8 or Note 4 ...I don't use the spen and want a premium phone!! Help!!

I loved my S3 but the M8 is light years ahead of samsung in my opinion. It's fast and just works like it's supposed to. Keep in mind that Samsung is locking all bootloaders and I don't know about you but waiting on safestrap only to flash modded stock roms doesn't do it for me. My only complaint is that it works too well and I don't find myself looking for mods and flashing new things, which is good, but bad if you like that diversion.
I am also comparing the g3 and the m8. Att is swapping out my s5 for another phone of my choice. Both phones seem nice. I guess I need to hit the store and play with them both.

I had the G 3 for three days ..did not like it....It's very laggy, heats up quickly..I rooted mine , debloated with xposed and still was slow. Another issue was wireless charging .Att&t only uses pma chargers and they make you buy their charging cover and base....no thanks.....m8 is light years better than the g3.

A few things
1. I'm going on 2 days without charging and I'm still at 20% - Amazing
2. Just look at the back of the "new" iPhone. Look familiar? Ya, that's what I thought. The design of the M8 is revolutionary.
3. What other cell phone has 2 forward facing speakers? And they sound better that anything out there.
4. Sense 6 is probably the best Android OEM skin ever. I'm with others that say while flashing ROM's is fun and the developers are great and make amazing ROM's but I've not had a reason to unlock and flash.
5. Just go hold one in your hand. Compare it to the plastic feel of other phones. No contest.

I bought a Samsung S 5 Active and an HTC One M8 at the same time, the S5 for my wife as we have different needs.
The S5 camera is better, is more waterproof and I prefer the hard-buttons (home, back, menu/windows.) In every other way, the M8 is better. Even though the S5 has a faster processor, the M8 seems faster. M8 feels slimmer and nicer (than either S5 model), battery lasts nearly double the time. And I happen to really like Dot View (and the ease of turning the display off by closing it. )
And iPhone wielding coworkers fondle the M8 in ways they wouldn't touch an S5.
In most ways, though, it's just different. I really don't like the Samsung interface, and replaced it on my Tab Pro, so it's no surprise that I don't like how the S5 menus and screens are laid out. Sense/Blink is okay, but I don't need either kind of live-feed so I put Nova on it anyhow.
I think the M8 is better. Like an Audi is better than a Honda - it doesn't get you from point A to B better, but the ride is more enjoyable. But you can be happy with either one.
I hope no one minds me adding a small question to this thread, as I'm also about to buy an M8:
I've read in many places that the finish on it makes it very slippery. How true is it? Do owners usually use a case or not? It would be a shame to put a case on such a nice looking phone!
if no case - is the back cover replaceable? If after a year mine gets all scratched, can I just replace it with a new one like I do on my S3?

Well just tried to buy m8 two different stores and lte would not light up..says no apn settings. I'm in Houston...huge lte here..Never had this problem with any other phones before..looks to be HTC issue?

Thats the problem with such a beautiful device. You don't want to cover it up with a case but want to protect it from everyday use. I use a thin TPU clear case at work and when I'm out but take it off when I'm home just to feel the quality of the M8. As far as slippery, yes it's a little slippery but not too bad. The back is not replacable like on a phone with a removable battery if that's what your thinking. E-bay (and I'm sure other places) have backs for sale but you'll have to take the phone apart to change it out since the phone is 90% one piece metal. Check out ifixit.com for the teardown and see if you can do it. Personally I don't think it is as bad as they say it is but I'm a mechanic and field service engineer so taking stuff apart and fixing them is what I do for a living.

I had an m8 and "please don't bash me for this m8 owners" the camera is absolutely horrible. Huge letdown with the m7 then again with the m8. I had the m8 and tried to convince myself that I loved it. As far as root and s-off, the m8 is awesome. The camera is horrible and the phone is too tall. I switched to the s5 once I heard they had root and couldn't be happier. These are just my opinions.

I agree the camera could be better out of the box but if you play with the setting in manual mode you will get amazing results. Most users are just casual photogs so they need point and shoot and never mess with the other features. I only use my phones camera as a conveiance because when I go to events etc. I take my point and shoot and my HD camcorder. I too thought the form factor of this phone would be too big but after having it for a month or so it's really not that big feeling. It actually feels smaller than my Vivid in my pocket. We won't take your comments as a bash, at least you didn't go with the iPhone Plus.
S5 or M8?
I'm trying to decide between the S5 and the M8 also.
Sounds like everybody is generally in love with the M8 because of the look and feel. Personally, I have trouble understanding why people complain about the plastic on the Samsung phones. If you plan to use the phone naked, then the look would make a difference. I never feel comfortable using these flimsy phones without a TPU case, and once you put a case on it, you rarely see the back of the phone. To me that makes all of that lovely metal a waste.
Otherwise, the waterproof qualities of the Samsung are a plus and most people seem to think the camera is better. Also, the lack of an easily replaceable battery on the M8 is a concern for me.
It seems that Sense UI, the speakers, and the general experience of using it is the big advantage for the M8. Also unlocked bootloaders and the availability of multiple stock roms is a plus. I'm not sure which phone wins out on battery life, but the Samsung has the bigger battery.
All in all, I'm leaning toward the S5, but it's a very close call.
Do you use a case on your M8? If so, what's the advantage of the pretty back?
Just got the M8 love it...very fast , very clean ui..no junk touchwiz here.... no complaints....This phone is very nice...only second generation...M9 will be even better....S5 feels and looks like my 9 year old niece designed ...good luck!

I too was in a position to choose between the M8 and S5 when my Galaxy Note II decided to finally give up the ghost only after 18 months of use. Despite a full restore it just kept freezing up and corrupted not only my 64 GB SD card, but also the internal memory. Because my phone is my lifeline, I couldn't afford to take any more time to try to fix it, and bought a replacement - the M8.
I have never had as many issues or physically destroyed a phone as quickly as the Note II. While I enjoyed the plastic at the beginning due to making the weight of the phone lighter, it was also more prone to scratches, cracks, abrasion marks, etc. Although I liked the Touchwiz features, I hated the FischerPrice design. Why are all of the icons huge on the screen? Nova launcher quickly became my friend.
I temporarily reverted to my Iphone 4 while shopping for a new phone. While I also hate IOS7, i did realize that I missed the feel and sturdiness of the metal chassis design. This swayed me to look at the M8 after I found out that the new model was almost all metal, unlike the M7.
I viewed the reviews and specs of both the M8 and S5. While the better camera on the S5 was definitely important, these were the factors that made me choose the M8:
1) Metal iPhone like build. I'm not too rough on my phones, but the even more plastic flimsy build of the S5 didn't seem like it would hold up any better than my Note 2 did. i also hated the new Band-Aid like design. The S5 looks like a toy.
2) Dual stereo speakers. I am a musician and DJ. Music is my life. While the volume of the Note 2 and S5 were "ok', there is no doubt that the M8 was not only superior in sound quality, but offered the rare stereo experience.
3) Camera - the M8 is adequate, but not up to par with other phones, especially the S5 and new LG. However, I weighed this against my use of the device for music. I rarely take photos or videos with my phone. Yeah, every once in a while as a spur of the moment keepsake, or to send to someone, but never to save and print, etc. I realized that the camera was the least important feature to me, so even though the S5 would win in this category, the M8 was sufficient for my needs. That being said, some of the camera features are very nice, and if you use manual mode, you can get some pretty decent shots.
4) Size - Although I liked the bigger screen on the S5, and prefer the technology, I found my Note 2 to be just a tad too big every once in a while. The slightly smaller M8 seemed to still give me the larger real estate that I wanted (compared to the minuscule iPhone 4, which I found unusable for non mobile web browsing). I was not mistaken.
5) Interface. I was very surprised with how clean the Sense 6 interface was. Although I don't use BlinkFeed (not customizable enough for me) it seems like so much more a native android experience. I don't feel like it gets in the way like TW did. I don't even use Nova anymore, simply because I love the weather clock widget. It was designed with simplicity in mind, but not to a point of making it toy like. If anything, it is elegant.
6) Internal memory. The S5 only has 16 GB of internal memory. The M8 has 32. Let's face it, there's a lot that can not be stored on an external SD card.
Other factors -
I really like the dot view case. While I thought it was gimmicky at first, I really find it helpful. The scrolling caller ID, the tap to view time/weather, the quick voice call feature, auto on/off when opening/closing the cover. Actually all very useful.
I do miss having a full RGB led notification indicator. However I'm finding it less important than I did on the Note 2.
I actually like the stock music player. I used Google Play Music on the Note, but now only use it for cloud based stuff (21K songs LOL). Otherwise I've been using the native player. I like the Music Channel feature with the scrolling lyrics.
One thing that almost made me overlook the M8 was that the M7 did not have a removable battery or SD slot. The M8 now features a micro SD slot (up to 128 GB!) so that's no longer an issue. While the M8 still does not have a removable battery, I find the battery life of the phone to be amazing. I do tend to have it on a charger most days, but yesterday I spent 14 hours at the casino. Even with constantly checking my phone, using it for several calls, texts, etc., I still had 20% at the end of the day without using power saver mode. My note would have been dead in 6-8 hours.
Even with the announcement of the New iPhone 6, I do not regret my choice of the M8. I really enjoy using this phone. YMMV, but the best thing to do would be to evaluate the features and how they fit your needs.
Both the M8 and G3 are badass phones. I have both and keep switching. Converted M8 to Dev and of course updates are like they are supposed to be. G3 no unlocked bootloader, can be a problem for some. The lag that those complain about on the G3 is virtually non-existent but sometimes can be seen. I think once LG issues an update, and they will, it won't even be a conversation anymore. I think LG is going straight to L, and will address everything at that point. Of course HTC will issue the same updates, probably faster too, but in the end, if LG fixes some of the "nagging" issues, it will be so much better.

I haven't had any trouble with camera and I prefer the luxury finish that gives the M8 over the S5.

Used iPhone 3G > Captivate > S3 > Note 2 ----> Got bored of Android, and more so with constant rooting and roms, and a times frustrating lag and crashing. So I bought into the hype and paid 1K for an iphone 6 64GB ( was waiting from Carrier too and then sell t but wait was 6 weeks ) , used for 3 days and realized I miss the Android control and usage. I sold the iPhone for 940, lost money and ordered an M8 from my Carrier - since I know its premium finish and I simply want to root it
I have been reading about GPE but most people say the stock is best itself
Have I picked the right phone as I want to stay away from the same Rom game and needs a smooth phone

Only you can answer if its the right phone for you.
But what I can say, is the stock experience is smooth, snappy and won't disappoint. To be honest, I've felt like HTC has gotten very close to having a great stock ROM experience for some time now. And that is pretty much realized with Sense 6, especially combined with the hardware on the M8. I mean, there is always tweaking that can be done with custom ROMs, and whether you want a custom ROM or not completely depends on your own preferences and usage. But I really feel that we are at a point where the stock software is stable, fast and smooth, and a custom ROM is not needed to get basic functionality or to overcome lag caused by Sense (as has been the case for older devices).
That being said, I went to a custom ROM early on (second day I owned the M8) because I can't stand AT&T's bloatware and limitations (blocked tethering if not on a tethering plan). But that is really another matter. Lag and performance are not an issue on the stock software.
Also, you can't really compare the M8 with Samsung devices. I have a current Samsung tablet (Tab Pro 8.4) and it lagged and crashed on TouchWiz, and all but forced me to go AOSP (which made it much faster and more stable). So don't take the Samsung experience as being indicative of all Android devices. The M8 is simply snappy in comparison.

tx man, I have 8.4 Tab Pro too. Lot of the comments on this thread are so similar to my past usage with Samsung - man it feels good to be back with Android. I was SO missing the back button the iphone and unlocking with fingerprint was a bore, had to wait till it opens, keep eye on the phone to swap channels on Tune in radio whereas in droid, u can simply swipe w/o looking. Lot of other small things make the difference
I was deeply torn between an S5 and the M8. My wife actually poked fun at me for not being able to decide. They are both solid phones, but ultimately I wasn't able to give up the freedom to tinker. The S5 is locked down hard on AT&T, and while it has root, at some point it's going to be totally closed - or at least developers are going to be stuck on the last officially supported kernel until people get tired of it. There is safestrap, and I looked into it, but it sounds like people are already getting weary of development on the locked versions. Thus, there will likely never be a non-TW ROM for it. The T-mobile version isn't locked, but apparently doesn't perform as well on AT&T networks, and you would have to find a way to get one without switching carriers.
The M8, on the other hand, has a future. Even once HTC gets tired of supporting it, being able to unlock the bootloader (either officially or unofficially) and S-off means that people will be creating new ROMs for it until it, like my old Skyrocket, just get so old that no one has them anymore. That was the deciding factor for me, especially in light of the fact that I switched to Cyanogenmod a long time ago on my Skyrocket, and never looked back. So, in a way, firewater (and ultimately Sunshine) sold me on the M8.
Now, the fact is that I have come to really like Sense. Sure, it doesn't have every option I'm used to in CM, but it's a solid skin that doesn't get in the way. I opted for a full (including CID) conversion to the Developer Edition, and have stuck with it for now. Thus, the ultimate irony is that I have the ability to do whatever I like to my phone, and I'm so happy with stock that I've not installed a single alternate ROM. However, I am also happy knowing that one day I will be able to.
OK, I'm on a Nexus 6, running Chroma ROM, loving the rooted Marshmallow life on Project Fi. I was looking forward to more of the same with the 128GB 6P. Then I started checking into the V10.
Here is what is *almost* making me hit the cancel button on my N6P order: 2nd screen, ESS Sabre DAC/AMP (the main reason is this actually), and I personally prefer the LG displays vs Amoled. (Color and white accuracy > saturated pop.) The V10 looks a bit better IMO too, but looks are pretty far down my list of considerations. Until proven otherwise, I'll consider cameras on the 6p vs v10 to be a wash. I also don't think the 808 vs 810 thing will be a huge deal for me either.
I've owned the G2 and G3 and liked it, but don't at all care for LG's UI customizations vs stock android. It's worse than touch wiz in some ways. Not as bad in others.
I'm an audiophile and I'd love to ditch my external headphone DAC/AMP. I'd really like to enjoy the V10, but not sure I can give up the freedom of a Nexus. So... Convince me!
Don't forget the removable SD (up to 1TB of music for you) and removable battery.
Nobody can convince you but yourself. I cancelled my 6P order for several reasons. IR Blaster (yes I use it all the time), V10 is the first phone using Qualcomm's TruSignal radio, second screen, IPS vs OLED, video features, the LG camera are already among the finest in cellphones, serious drop protection, among others. I'm one of the few maybe? Who actually likes the features that LG has added to their phones as opposed to vanilla Android. 4GB RAM, 808 is a fine processor. Qi charging backs available, removable battery and SD card slots. Those are the reasons I hit the cancel button.
I've sort of thought about getting myself the V10.
I want the Nexus 6P very bad, however unless AT&T picks it up wihtin the next two months I am more than likely going to have to find another phone or jump through a lot of hoops to get it.
That said, I have had my G3 since a month after it was released, this is the longest time I have ever held onto a phone.. Without rooting it, I might add.
I have used plenty of android devices, all were rooted. I love root, but I feel as Android is evolving I have had less of a need to root, though I would really like to hear that the bootloader on the V10 will be easily unlocked...
I sort of thought the second screen was going to be a gimmick. Now I am rethinking that. I absolutely love my G3 camera. I don't mind the LG UI in fact and that is one of the biggest reasons I have kept the phone this long. Unlike TouchWiz which will keep me from buying another Samsung phone for years to come, or Sense which I will not try again in the foreseeable future, the UI is not over bearing, almost keeps the vanilla android look perfectly.. It doesn't eat up a ton of RAM, and is pretty darn snappy.
I think I may end up with this device, I will wait until reviews of the N6P and this device come out to make a final decision, as well as wait and see if carriers in the US are allowed/decide to carry the Nexus.
You have to make the decision yourself, OP. I'll say this much - I don't need root at this point, sure it's a bonus, but not needed - so I lean toward this device.
Stainless steel, rubber, 2 gorilla glass coverings, sd card, removable battery, 2nd screen, 2 selfie cams and the video record features.
I can re-skin the UI, all but the system menu, with Nova - which I'd probably be doing on the nexus as well. I guess the big question is how much ROM support will the V10 have to keep me happy like the nexus will. Having to code a ROM to handle that second display is probably going to be rough, but I'm just guessing.

I'm going to say a few things here, and all my opinion.
First. I am only up to speed on the way the G3 development progressed. Boatloader was hard to crack for most carrier variants and I believe the V10 will more than likely follow suit.
If you are buying a new phone to go flash-a-holic on your best bet will always be the newest Nexus device, hands down. The way phone manufacturers are trending they want their phones to be super secure, and in Samsung's case want it secure enough to make government contracts possible.
With that said. The next thing is the second screen. If there happens to be a fair development area for this phone I will assume that all stock based roms will have no issues with the second screen as it is already in the software code.
However, MIUI, AOSP, CM based roms will likely have issues unless LG makes that code available. So, again if you want to flash every ROM in the XDA database the Nexus is your phone.
I look at the V10 and I see stability, amazing hardware, software for the camera second to none, and above all else the one thing all these manufacturers are losing people for lacking - MICRO SD and removable battery!

I used to be a flash crazy person. I tried everything and constantly switched. That was also during the time when Android wasn't mature like it is now. Now, I'm content with just root. I hate flashing ROM's now, it takes up too much time restoring everything, and a lot of the features added to ROM's are not very useful to me. I do like to flash kernels, though and find them useful.
1) I understand the benefits of USB C but I have a significant investment in Qualcomm Quickcharge 2.0 wall, and car, and power bank, and cables. So I actually prefer at this time to stay with micro USB for compatibility with my other devices. USB C might make more sense in a couple years.
2) Removable battery. Not because I intend to swap it but rather because I hope to stay with this phone for many years and when the battery get tired I can buy a new one.
3) Micro SD. My current phone is small so I use it for audio only and my tablet for video only. I am hoping by switching to a big phone I can use one device for both audio and video. This means I want lots of storage and the max 128GB of the 6P is not enough for me.
4) I do not like the wasted bezel space at the top of the 6P. I'm thinking the V10 2nd display with be useful for me.
5) I like the combined power and finger print sensor on the back.
6) I think a camera with OIS is better than one without. And I like manual camera controls.
7) I don't play games but I like to multitask. So more ram and lower power cpu is a plus for me.
What might change my mind?
If upcoming 6P camera reviews demonstrate it is a lot better than the V10 camera. If the V10 pricing is not competitive. If I see some serious flaws reported in V10 reviews.

If you were really an audiophile than you wouldn't need convincing. The superb ESS DAC/AMP in the LG V10 should have been enough to tip the scale quite easily.

Stacks are bulky and annoying. Nobody wants to carry that around if they dont have to and the v10 eliminates that need. I never said the LG is "better". I said the v10 has a superior dac/amp that would make the decision easy for a true audiophile. Not to mention the 6p doesn't even have an sd card slot for more music.
Bottom line for me looks like I'm going with the V10 over the Nexus 6P. Very excited for it. Might be a month but I am going to get myself a little "early" Christmas present

I got my 6p in the mail today. Really nice phone, but something makes me want to try the v10, (the promo helps) camera is probably just as good maybe better. I ordered from ATT in Opal Blue, I figure if it doesn't compare I can return it. Or if Its better, keep it and sell the 6p.

Mind giving us a comparison once you've had the chance to test drive both? I'm still interested in the V10, I'm just thinking the N6P better suits me at this point.
I thought I was going to prefer the Nexus 6P over the LG V10 but that was ruined when I learned Nexus was going AMOLED again. It was a disaster the first time around and doesn't sound all that great this time. I'm reading a lot of complaints on brightness and a pink/blue hue to the screen.
I just don't trust AMOLED. I'm a moderate to heavy user and don't need a screen that can suffer image retention, burn in, and/or color degradation anywhere from a week to a year after purchase.
All in all, though, I'll be sticking with my G4 as the V10 isn't worth the upgrade.

I really like the 6p, its beautiful, the camera is amazing, and its fast and clean. My v10 comes tomorrow, I will gladly share my opinion.
all hype aside i have a sony xperia z3 and i will be making the switch to a V10 when it comes to T-mobile. I tried the note5 even with no removable back or expandable storage and it was not anything special. Sure it was fast, good screen, and great camera but the experience was like " eh its the same note". When i look to buy a phone i ask myself " will i use this feature?" and i found myself not using any of the notes.
The LG V10 is an upgrade from my xperia z3. 5.7 screen has been shown to be a great size for quad hd. Yes Amoled is better brighter but not sure if LG has ever done AMOLED before i know they had OLED. Removable back to swap out just in case your battery burns out buy using it while its charging lol. stock 64 gigs of storage! which means my micro slot can just be for raw files and or audio flac files. Phone has top tier camera and best video experience of 2015. IR blaster just in case you loose your remote and your to lazy to look for it lol or another ex: at the gym and your doing cardio and its time for your show just change it yourself and everyone will be like " who changed the channel?". HIFI audio is a plus yes you wont be able to play any files in 32bit but flac files of vinyl files will sound amazing. It comes with HIFI earphones which is awesome because if it didnt you would have to spend alot more money on a pair just to get the experience you should have gotten right out of the box. 4 gigs of ram is future proof and as far as the 808 chip goes when theres root on this phone you can always overclock the cpu to a fast and safe speed. I also find its great that it has gorilla glass 4 and metal sides with a softer plastic feel to protect from drops so a case is not necessary for this phone. Im sure it will get Qi charge even if you have to buy a back cover to get it which is my only flaw with this phone is that it doesnt have it standard but its not a deal breaker since its just as easy to plug it in and plug in is faster anyway. The UI i saw was improved but if you dont like it still just get a launcher ( google) and your good or wait for root. the second screen from what i saw on all the videos is handy since the notifications get displayed on the side and doesn't interrupt your screen experience. is it placed weird yes at the top is to far to move your thumb to the top so you would have to hold it with two hands and given this is a 5.7 inch screen you should know already that its a two handed device (but lg does have a one hand screen mode). The second screen really is meant for just notifications and the occasional quick app select. some people say they should have placed the second screen on the bottom and I agree but im sure they placed it on the top because that is where the cameras are and they didnt want to make a longer 2nd screen since it should be used for a quick glance. if it were at the bottom im sure the phone would have been a tad bit bigger since the cameras would stay on top and an extra screen on the bottom. The finger print scanner is in the logical spot for LG since that was the power button for the G series.
This phone just has to many thing i know i would use then things i wouldn't. Samsung honestly has a great chip and a great screen but thats really all it has.
So in short i will be getting this phone when it comes to the USA and if LG does a yearly release then ill be happy to wait a year to see if the upgrade would be worth it to a lg V10 2 lol.

The hardware was great, build quality second to none. The software skin the least invasive and most closely resembles vanilla Android. The camera and software for the camera the best of any smartphone in my opinion....
I think we can expect this device to release on major US carriers by middle of November I think I've seen quoted.
This is going to be a great device I really think it captures the essence of what Android has become. A very high end phone.

I totally get where your coming from. I to am on carrier and i wanted the 5x but saw only 2 gig of ram and only one of the facing speakers work for audio. I only upgrade from carrier also and was going to wait but this phone looks beast theres just way to much stuff to pass off on getting this phone. every time i think about what this phone has in it compared to the other carrier phones i get excited. I love my sony the battery life is amazing the camera takes good photos and the HI-res sounds so clear. Software though is starting to lag.

I think I will be happier with this device. Even if the bootloader never gets cracked open, whereas the Nexus will almost certainly... I explained in another thread I don't need the ROM support, really root at all. I am more interested in having a device that works out of the box and offers me what I expect from a phone. Android is maturing to a point where we don't need root to do a lot of what was only available through root. The best part of my LG G3, and the V10 is that the software does have some very useful features baked in and LG has done this without ruining the integrity of the software, and without hindering performance (exceptionally clear in the V10 reviews, very very snappy) or battery life that much at all.
The screen on my G3 beats the iPhone 6S outright, which my mom has for work. She still loathes the thing and prefers her Note 2. Ha. Anyways... This phone has me very very excited. I am looking forward to upgrading now, where I was fairly content before the news of this came out. Yeah, the Nexus would be very neat, but I think Google made a mistake only offering it through the Play Store. There are plenty of people like us who upgrade through the carriers we pay... I never really needed a camera that is close to a point and shoot as I have a point and shoot that takes great photos, however after getting my G3 I can't go back to something with a subpar camera, and this puppy's camera is going to rein supreme for a long while I predict... It just looks fantastic. My hope is that I will be able to take a macro shot without a macro lens. I think we will be able to, judging by the reviews of the camera.
The V10 seems to be everything we asked for this year in a flagship, honestly... It has a removable battery, micro SD support (up to 2 TB!?), an amazing screen, camera that I believe to be second to none... I don't know why other manufacturers couldn't put something out similar to this.. Anyways! Can't wait to see some hands on reports when this is released state side.
yes, as soon as tmo announces a launch date, i will be there to purchase in store. this will be an upgrade from the note 3 and a change from the samsung line as all i have purchased have been samsung priducts. i watched samsung's presentation for the note 5 and edge 6+ and was absolutely underwhelmed by it. the thing is, if it had a removable battery and sd slot, i probably would have bought a note because why change something that wasn't obviously broken. samsung's design language tells me that they're broken and are going to stay broken for a while. they have moved in the direction of being a fashion android device with this all glass and metal thing they're doing now and that is a fragile phone that won't survive drops without a case.
i hope that root is able to happen. i don't need root, but i think it's always a good option to know it's there if i want it.
I had a G3 for a year and really enjoyed it. I switched to the Moto X Pure Edition which is pretty good but I got to try out the V10 yesterday and now I want it. I'll probably get it in a couple of months once I see if there's root available.
It feels quite nice especially with the metal frames on the sides. The battery cover is grippy with the texture they have on it. The screen felt brighter than what I remember the G3 being like. The camera will obviously destroy the MXP camera. I got to see the rose gold one which I actually may end up getting. I usually just get boring black but the color was a nice champagne color. The 120 degree camera was impressive for people who like to take self portraits. I refuse to use the other word

I'm with you. As soon as T-Mobile drops this device on their shelves I'm there. As much as I love my N6 I'm not going to miss it (nasty bug in Marshmallow right now plaguing WiFi where it has issues at times staying connected). I'm also done with the custom ROM community. The entitlement issues and some of the shoddy work is unreal. I'm done with needing root as well. I wanted a Nexus 6P but that craptastic 810 SoC, the AMOLED (burn-in on my N6 is driving me insane and it's not even a year old) and the lack of selling through carriers killed that for me. I was pondering what to do then a week later the V10 was announced. I can't wait to get my hands on it. T-Mobile and LG need to hurry the hell up so they can take my money.

6p is a great phone i herd someone blew a fuse when they rooted it or something. i would love to have one lol but they dont sell them on carriers and im not wealthy enough to shell out money.
I hope the price comes down like in Korea to compete with the galaxy s6 to 610. 640 would be perfect. I do believe with the software changes LG has made it makes the experience more enjoyable then the stock lg skin like on the lg g3 when it first came out. I cant wait to try this phone out.

I really want to get this phone for the removable battery but would love to see testimonials of LG G5 users who have had no issues but also comments from people who have had issues...

Sure LG could have got a few things better polished but if you want my advise, go for it!
I think it has to do with where you buy the phone - it sure looks like american versions have way more issues than european ones.
Mine is the european one and I haven't had any problems since I got the phone in May. Just be sure you can live without custom roms ... it's beginning to look like we'll be stuck on (more or less modified) stock roms forever.
I'd recommend the G5 to anybody that uses their phones with stock, but if you want customisation and proper roms/themes you should look elsewhere.

For me, I'm in Vancouver and got my G5 from Rogers about 2 months ago. Luckily, I haven't had any of the issues some are having like bootlooping issues. However, I prefer to stay stock with my G5 and I've been very happy with it. Battery life can be subpar but I have a spare battery with me anyways so no big deal. Overall, it's a great phone with a great camera (which is why I bought it). Hopefully, u have no issues yourself if you decide to get it too.
Before I bought my phone LG G5 H860. I read a lot of reviews and mostly had a bad reviews about it. But still I decided to buy it. When I first held it it feels like premium not like some of the reviews that it feels cheap. Haha. Coming from an LG G2 and was really a big leap for me. I gave my G2 to my mother and she was happy. About the performance, even it's just a stock ROM it performs great. And I also can live without root and custom ROM's. Battery is kinda low for a 2800mAh but what can I say, it's removable and can easily be swapped. . Camera is also one of the best. The lack of autofocus in the front cam and wide angle like the V20 is just the missing features. But overall G5 is a great premium phone. I'll use my G5 until it breaks. Not planning on upgrading yearly. Haha. Therefore G5 is the best for me. I was thinking of V20 but it's bigger and a bit bulky for me. G2 and G5 have the width size but G5 is a bit longer. :victory:. That's all.

Just remember... As with everything... Way more people will take the time to complain/moan about issues in life than those who have nothing to complain about. Ie.. very rarely does someone take the time to actually say "hey, i have no issues, phone works great".
I personally like a lot of others, have had zero issues with my G5. Whether that be down to it being European and an H850 compared to any American variant.. or just luck... Who knows..
Iv'e been using the G5 for over 4 months now and it couldn't be much better, the build quality ia top notch i dont have any gaps what so ever and it feels like a premium device, the feeling in the hand is simply great.
This device is blazing fast, the first thing you will notice is how fast and lag free this phone is, the battery is more than enough it lasts about a day and a half, the camera is best in class.
I personally prefer LCD IPS panels cuz it has a more natural colors than amoled, and the G5 display is very bright in direct sunlight
Overall the G5 Is the best flagship in 2016 in my opinion
I definitely think that the build issues are exaggerated. I have the ls992 variant. Not a single problem. The above poster is correct in saying that people are more likely to post something negative than positive. That goes for just about anything. If a Dr prescribes you a new medication, and you make the mistake of Googling it - you may just end up with the belief that all your limbs will turn black and fall off, your spouse will leave you, etc etc. Lol. In other words, the most perfect product will not be immune to those who make negative claims. Either real, or imagined.
I agree that there are those who got lucky and have 0 issues with the device, but I have had samsung devices, HTC devices, and now with the 6P huawei devices and none of them had the glaring problems the G5 has had. Those manufacturers usually are pretty consistent when it comes to build quality. Granted, Samsung is under fire right now for exploding Note 7s lol, but I am pretty sure the look and feel of each device is pretty much going to be the same experience for everyone. Things such as GPS being a problem, or the display having discoloration would be a rare occurrence with them. If LG had consistency in regards to build quality I think the complaints would halve. It feels like some phones were built properly with care, and others were slapped together.
My experience with the phone has been mixed; GPS was terrible until I sent it into LG, battery life sucks I can never get more than 12-14 hours on a charge, performance is awesome, the front and rear cameras are both awesome and take great photos, and I have had little issue with the daily operation of the device. However, I did have overheating issues, the GPS would not lock, and the paint finish is bubbling near the bottom of the device. The first two were remedied by sending it in. They want me to send it in again for the third time because of the issue with the finish, but I have already replaced the backing myself just to avoid further issues with their repair center. All and all, it's hard to say if it has been a good or bad experience. There are too many things on both sides. If LG had better build quality, but crappy battery life I'd feel confident enough to say the experience was mostly good, but I can't. I have had many devices over the years and this reigns true. I even have two devices right now, this G5 and the Nexus 6P. I have had 0 issues with my 6P. It feels great, runs great, and looks great.

Yeah it's a shame because it seems to have everything I would like. But im seeing the same things regarding build quality... I know there are also lots of happy users too but but I've never seen HTC users complaining in droves about bootloop issues, paint chipping, light bleed, etc...
I used to own a Sony Xperia Pro phone and its low memory was not fit for purpose and our made me regret buying Sony products again.
Hard one for me...I hear lots of good things though about LG G5. The fact that it's fast and snappy and camera is one of the best of the year.

I have had issues with HTC devices in the past, sent them into HTC, and have received a FIXED device. I would have no issues sending my HTC device to their repair center. Yes, no manufacturer is perfect and there are bound to have problems too. It just isn't as pronounced and as common.

Lol I walked into that one! I didn't mean LG is the only one, I meant that LG seems to jump out to me as one brand that I've noticed where I see a lot of repair issues in the forums more so than the other brands.... But it may be just by chance that I'm bumping into these bad reports more so than the other brands...
I'm so glad this thread exist!! I just bought this phone from a carrier here in the us 3 days ago. Everything seems good except Bluetooth. Bluetooth is so trash. If I put the phone in my pocket or literally have it more than 1 foot away things get choppy and digital. On 3 headsets. Should I exchange it while I'm still in my 14 days or is this to be expected?

Hey OPX owners!
I have a weird question for you guys.
Currently I'm owning a OnePlus 7 Pro. But as a second phone I would like to buy a OPX (I don't know why I would need another one but I really love the aesthetics of the OPX).
Do you guys still recommend this phone in 2020? What are some advantages/disadvantages?
I don't want to replace my 7 Pro but I would like to use the OPX from time to time (especially with custom roms because I love rooting and things like that). I know that the custom ROM section of the OPX is nearly dead, but I saw that AEX and Lineage are still supported.
I would be glad to hear your stories and what you think about that idea. The OPX I could buy costs 70 Euros (78 USD), is it too much? The phone itself is in a good condition with no scratches.
Or do you guys think I should look for a OnePlus One instead?
Honestly if you're looking to buy a device to test custom ROMs and other software, go for the One. It has a way larger dev community, and is still supported officially by LineageOS. If you want a more compact and aesthetically pleasing device and can't think of anything else to burn that 70€ on, then the X is still a decent device to use as a backup phone. It has a great screen, awesome build quality and looks that hold up to this day despite the large bezels. Don't expect blazing fast performance, great battery life and an impeccable camera as you'll be disappointed. If you have realistic expectations from a device that's nearly 5 years old and all but abandoned and forgotten by the manufacturer and most of the community save for a dedicated cult following, then go for it. I've been using the X as my main phone since it came out, and the only thing that's pushing me towards upgrading is the tiny storage (16gb is really not enough in 2020, especially if you use a lot of apps and/or play games). I don't really use that many apps and I still barely get by, and the card reader is so slow that I'd never recommend installing apps on an sd card. Here's hoping that the rumored OnePlus 8 lite will live up to its spiritual predecessor in price to performance.
I have to agree. The OPX is the right size for me and has the same processor as the OP1, but there's not a lot of development going on with what is essentially a concept phone
I've been using my OPX since 2015; my brother gifted one to me pretty much right after it came out.
I can't speak to the relative size of dev communities, but I've had some fun trying different ROMs on it. Currently running "/e/" ("e.foundation") - which has been interesting, having all of the Google stuff excised (though I did eventually add some Google apps/services myself because I'm so used to them). Before I switched over, I was having a lot of problems with the stock OS acting up after years of auto updates. Now it runs beautifully. The camera leaves something to be desired (though actually the photo quality was better when using the stock camera software, so with the right app and settings it might be better), but that's not a big deal for me. I've also never had a problem installing/running apps on the SD card.
I love the form factor of the OPX. When I first got it, it seemed HUGE - but these days it's small and sleek compared to a lot of the smartphones I see. I actually get quite a few compliments on it. Folks are surprised to learn that it's an old model. Actually a big part of what spurred me to do the work of installing a custom ROM was that I didn't want to have to buy a new phone; I didn't like the look/size of any of the other options. With the custom ROM, I'll probably still be using this phone for another 4-5 years!
I have been using opx since the premiere with wooden case. A year ago I sent him to service to change my battery. I have always custom rom on my opx (on 8.1 by yummemuchi right now, but I think sultan rom is the best for opx) waiting for stable android 9.
The phone works well, looks nice and I don't feel like changing it.
The only thing I would like to change in it is:
- add nfc
- better battery
- processor
- faster memory
I just bought an OPX yesterday for $100 CAD and flashed POSP on it and it's working pretty great, super stable for a daily driver.
Camera is better than some older phones but really not great, especially on ROMs without the OOS cam it's pretty bad.
I wish the performance was better, I think if you overclock it a little it would feel more smooth. But the battery life would suffer and it's not that great already.
It's a great phone to tinker with and my girlfriend is currently using it as a daily driver.

Have you tried AEX, too? It's still under development and POSP is abandoned.
I'm not sure if any of those roms is better, because I really like POSP but I'm using AEX because of the newer updates.

I haven't tried AEX yet, would you say it gives better performance than POSP?
Only as a secondary phone i reckon. I'm only keeping this phone because i just love it's beauty,however it is such a delicate darling. The glass sandwich device with AMOLED is a treat for something which sells for mere 50 dollars in used market where i live. So no point selling the beauty for so cheap. Also the spares are hard to find. My power button was broken from inside (not the actual smd internal power button but the one which we physically press), had to disassemble the whole device and i had to do DIY repair on it by literally rebuilding it with a piece of plastic from where it was broken from the other side.
The custom Rom scene is almost dead now, i'm currently on AEX which had the last update done months back.
Having said that, i kept it in pretty much new like condition by using it sparingly.
One good thing was last i checked with the service center for spares, they were providing free battery replacement where i live.
Anyway,how is your Oneplus x holding up?
it has the same form factor as iphone SE 2020. if you are using LOS 17.1 then it is worth it.
Seems to be a pretty decent phone, batteries might become an issue, as they always are,
And halting of constant pdates via the community on XDA, might also limit this phones utility.
But for a 4 year old phone, that's still going strong, I think not bad at all.
I think so! I still use my OPX as my primary phone. I love the small form factor, dual SIMs and FM radio. I'm not aware of any modern devices that compare. I had the battery replaced about a year and a half ago.
Thank goodness for the custom ROM scene here, because OnePlus abandoned support almost immediately.
