Which ROMs fully support the camera? - Redmi Note 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all.
I've been trying a number of custom ROMs for the Redmi Note 2 and it seems like the camera doesn't work very well in the non-MIUI roms. In particular the custom ROMs don't seem to have auto-focus which is a huge problem because it breaks barcode scanners and the like.
Are there any custom ROMs in which the camera works as it does in the MIUI roms?

None of custom roms based on 5.1 android not fully support camera. We don't have source code.

Try this one: AOSP 2.0 by Vova Vafin.
It has the best camera app I've seen for Redmi Note 2 (IMO better then MIUI camera app).

In terms of quality I find the best one Yios V3 Avecilla. Higher frame and nitrate off all. Also no problem with focus. Framerate 30-60 fps is good light conditions and bitrate 17-20. In low light bitrate about 11 and framerat 16-30.

Link for Yios V3 Avecilla?

Try something CAF based like Citrus but that won't improve the camera much.
Unfortunately xiaomi.eu ROM and a custom launcher like Nova are the only way to go if you want a decent camera and good battery life.
And one last thing: Try LineageOS 13 based on Marshmallow by Gizmo. It is supposed to take better pictures than Nougat based ROMs

The camera in custom ROMs based on Nougat is worse than in stock ROM, yes.
In Marshmallow based ROMs, the camera isn't that much worse but the images are still different than with stock. Someone posted photos here on the forum comparing stock and LineageOS 13 camera
Try N os now the camera is some what optimized now 21 St build

There's no point in comparing camera quality between different ROMs.
Historically the area where custom ROMs suffer the most in comparison to stock ROMs is image quality.
More or less the quality will be the same as the software remains the same, Snap camera, and all the ROMs use mostly the same sources for the same hardware.
The difference will be made by software image processing, which only MIUI can provide.
So if you want the best possible image quality from your sub 200$ phone, you have to use MIUI or be satisfied with the camera on your custom ROM.

Camera Comparison :: Miui vs Custom Roms

Miui vs Other Custom Roms.. Which rom has batter camera quality?
Camera quality is lot better in miui when compared to custom ROMs. Custom has problems with flash light and camera quality is also not that great.

How to get best camera quality on Aosp/los based roms?

Camera quality is the only thing that keeps me away of aosp/los based ROMs. Gcam is good but doesn't look too stable and miui ported cam is good too but has dark video problem.
Can someone give me some advices?
P.s : what about los 15.0 camera quality?

how's the gaming on customs roms? does ir camera work perfectly?

wondering if the performance is better than stock miui in custom roms
The performance is about the same (Snapdragon 845 caps at about 60fps, most game won't support FPS above it, so no real differences). IR camera's API is part of Xiaomi's closed source framework, so IR camera cannot be ported to any custom roms yet.

Best MiUi version for video recording poco f1.

I've read on many sources that after series of updates the camera of poco f1 is getting worse over time, so what is the best version of MIUI when the camera was on it's prime.
I am using this device for YouTube video recording I've been to other custom ROMs which are good for performance but not as good in camera as stock miui or based ROMs like miui eu.
I have checked and the last stable update of miui 9 but that doesn't even have 1080p 60fps recording, if you can suggest some mods that work on miui 9 and can unleash the full potential of camera I can manage to move to mi UI 9
I have used pixel rooms which are good for performance and photo-snapping but not so much for video recording. you can suggest any ROM, MODs, settings that tap the full potential of the camera of Poco F1 for video recording.
For me, I have found that google cam version F1v9.4a_6.2.030 takes best videos. https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-san1ty/
Use 4k 30fps on this version and you'll get stability too.
MIUI cam doesn't take even nearly good enough videos in low light as gcam. Otherwise no difference apart from no stability in 4k.
Later Gcam versions have focus issues, so not recommending those.
