Playing games in vr - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using a nexus 6p with rooted latest android n preview.
The app "3d games" by tridef is able to show a lot of mobile games such as final fantasy and minecraft in 3d. The problem I have is that all of these apps are 16:9 just like my phone! So when "3d games" produces a side by side image, it is small and does not give any immersion at all.
What I was wondering is if there is a way to launch an app in a set aspect ratio without just changing the size of your screen. Anyone that can help?

[Q]Run apps at lower resolution?

In general, can we change some properties to make a given app run on a lower than native resolution?I think it should be totally possible, since phone come in various aspect ratios and resolutions. So the app detects the screen and resolution, and adopts accordingly.Gensoid does that in-app.Double,original size,strech,etc....
For instance,if we have a game on a 1920x1080 screen, but the GPU struggles to keep the framerate,we lower it to 960x540,the game still looks fine, because we get 1:2 resolution, and far fewer pixels to push.I think there should be an app for that.

[Q] Change screen resolution on app launch (and change back on exit)

I am attempting to play a very old game that only works on a very particular set of screen resolutions on my modern Android devices. The game does not scale at all and is completely unplayable without changing the resolution to one that is supported (the only one I can get to work correctly is 320x480) I have gotten this game to work using an app called NOMone Resolution Changer from the Play Store, but it is a pain to change the resolution (really screwing up the UI), launching the app, then getting out of it when I want to quit, and changing the resolution back. What I am wondering is if there is some way to make it so that when I launch the app, it will change the resolution, and then launch the app, and when I close the app, it will change it back. I am quite skilled with Android and Linux so I am willing to try anything. My device is rooted running KitKat.

App to play YouTube videos on 4:3 aspect ratio

Our nexus has a very annoying aspect ratio, most of the YouTube videos won't just fit for full screen.
Is there any way we could make these videos fit on full screen!?
Change YouTube app's aspect ratio, or any other app which can play online YouTube videos, where we can make it fit on full screen I.e. with 4:3 aspect ratio???

I'm sure there are ways to do this, but it would result in cropping out and stretching parts of the video. It would be very unpleasant to watch.
I just got a Nexus 9 myself, and this has been my primary complaint so far. I also have an Ipad mini, so I am used to the 4:3 form factor. What's nice about Ipad is that in my video apps, there is an option to autocrop to full screen. I wish we had that on the N9 as well. For the majority of videos, it isn't that "unpleasant" at all, actually.
Install SecondScreen

This app let's you adjust your screen resolution so fullscreen videos fill the entire screen. (Requires Root)

You're right. Second Screen only works when you project your screen onto a TV (miracast). I ended up using Dolphin Browser and MXPlayer. When you watch a video in Dolphin and click the Fullscreen box on the video, the fullscreen window has a 3dot menu in the upper right. When you click that, you get the choice to select a different video player. Select MXPlayer (installed separately) and the video will play in MXPlayer, which has controls for scaling the video. Set it to Fit Vertically, and it will fill the screen. Not an ideal solution, but it works.
When widescreen tvs were new (I'm that old) it irritated me to see people, mainly older people, watching 4:3 ratio programmes 'stretched' to fit. Watch stuff as it is intended to be seen!
If you have a nexus 7 it's a perfect size for widescreen. Okay, so older 4:3 ratio stuff will be a bit small. But think of the poor iPad users who paid four times the price for a larger 4:3 ratio screen just so they can watch widescreen material letterboxed at the same size as a nexus 7.
And dont get me started on people who video on their phones vertically...

Doesn't work for me with pie.
With game tunter I could force the resolution in The Simpsons Tapped out to WQHD+, now the game starts always with lower resolution - feeling liked zoomed in all the time.
Game Launcher does not offer any resolution options.
Ideas?

Yep, this really sucks. It's hard to notice for some games if they're just running at 1080p but Real Racing 3 has always had this problem. Gear Club needed overclocking (hardware boost) with Game Tuner to play smoothly on Exynos Note 9 at 1440p.
Also, Game Launcher used to have fullscreen mode but now it doesn't under the game tools tab. Now, games that are not yet optimized like Horizon Chase and Smash Hit can only run at 16:9.

ARCore huge FPS drop when too many (50ish dots) objects placed in the scene.

Hi,
I have Galaxy M31 phone that supports ARCore. I downloaded Sony 3D Creator and get it to work somehow. But, when the calibration starts it goes smoothly until it capture some dots and puts them in the scene. After that, my camera lags really badly (like 1 FPS). This is not special for Sony 3D Creator. This also happens with "Lines of Play" (AR Dominoes game) that Google released.
Thanks for your attention.
