[Q] How to restore OTA for MIUI - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hello guys!
I was wondering that can I somehow still get OTA with MIUI, if I want to go back from MIUI.
When I flash MIUI with MiFlash, everything is back to "stock" and I get OTAs, and lose TWRP (but it's okay), but I do not want to always wipe my data, and use MiFlash...
So, is there any way to restore OTA instead of using MiFlash?

Need urgent help! Please!

I have a rooted s-on Evo 3D and Im trying to put my moms number on it since I got a new phone, but I keep getting an error I'm running a custom rom and I'm pretty sure you need to be on the stock rom so you could actually change numbers, I need to go back to to the stock rom, I have it backed up but I'm on a different kernel and since I can't just restore it I need to flash the kernel first of my back up, ive been using flash image GUI for flashing my roms but I don't know how to restore the back up I have of the stock rom, if I just restore it won't flash the kernel. Someone please help me. I can can fastboot I think, restore The backup. Does anyone have the link for the intructions? I can't find the thread that they made. Thanks.
What rom are you on? when you flashed it did you clear dalvik cache first?
Also you can try and go into custom recovery and clear you dalvik cache and see if that works!
Sometime (in my experience anyways) I have had to re-flash the rom because it was messing up after instal ie. FC on all apps but a fresh install worked like a charm.

Question about ODIN

I'm currently on MI5 rooted via Vega..
Currently I'm looking to update to MJ4.
Question is,... I want to reflash MI5_vega modified to get the OTA from the system. But I want to start from scratch. How do I wipe the phone without using TWRP? What option do I check in ODIN for the system to wipe the phone (keeping the storage) during the MI5 flash?

you can flash stock recovery and unroot, but OTA update won't install; you need locked phone which does automatically factory reset; you can backup data using FlashFire even on encrypted partition as it makes file based backup and relock
That sucks big time. Doesn't worth the trouble.
I wonder why all the Chinese phones (and as far as I can tell, only them) make it such a hassle to root.
I've seen this on Oneplus, Xiaomi and now Honor.

can i update vendor firmware without losing my data/apps/etc??

currently on the latest LOS 16 with latest vendor firmware. but, just wondering, if i were to flash newer firmware over my existing, would i lose all data etc and need to flash ROM / Gapps etc etc?
or should i just backup data/storage/boot, flash latest firmware then restore backup - would that work, or is it not advised?
sorry if that's a complete noob question!!

I can tell you for certain that flashing of firmware/modem on OP3 does not affect the ROM, Gapps, Magisk or data. I am sure it will be the same on the F1 also.
However, it is possible that your device gets encrypted during first reboot after flashing firmware update. In this case you would have to format data to get rid of encryption, which means loss of your data. To avoid this, simply flash disable force encryption zip prior to first reboot.

Ah yes I forgot about encryption, it did say on first boot of Los that it was encrypting. Are you saying that I can flash decryption zip now and everything will be decrypted? Or do you mean everything is lost and I should only flash decryption before first boot of newly flashed rom?
Just reboot to twrp and see if you can read your files in clear text. If not, then your device got encrypted and you will have to format data.
To my understanding, you will get encrypted every time you chance from miui to aosp, or aosp to miui, or you flash a new vendor firmware zip, on reboot system this is. In these cases you should flash dfe zip prior to reboot system. You probably won't get encrypted changing between aosp roms. Though it won't hurt flashing dfe zip in this case either, just to be sure.
