Camera shutter sound mod - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hello all,
Is there a discovered way to add a camera shutter sound on the Camera menu ? or a way to disable it permanently ?
I could do that easily on my old S6 edge...
Thanks in advance for your answers.

So far I just mute the phone when I don't want sound. I may try to alter the camera a bit later but anyway you'll need root for it.

I already have root on my mobile. But normally we should have an option for that just like Samsung from the CSC mods...

I already asked it, and nobody gave another answer than "mute phone before taking photos".
Renaming/deleting the shutter sounds doesn't work...

Yes, this worked on my GS3, but not in the G5

Well, I've replaced all the camera sound files with the GS3 camera_empty.ogg file, and now the camera is silent, except when video recording is stopped.

Excuse me, can you be more specific? Which file name should I replace, and in the media folder or in the camera apk?

I've replaced all this files in system/media/audio/ui :
af_failure.ogg
af_succsess.ogg
camera_click.ogg
camstart.ogg
camstop.ogg
cam_snap_0.ogg
continuous_shot.ogg
IR_normal.ogg
Lock.ogg
PowerOff.ogg
PowerOn.ogg
shot_snap.ogg
shutter_mirror_down.ogg
shutter_mirror_up.ogg
switchoff.ogg
switchon.ogg
Unlock.ogg
VideoRecord.ogg
VideoStop.ogg
vr_button_back_longpress.ogg
vr_button_ok_longpress.ogg
After a factory reset and reconfiguring all again (and replacing the files again) I could mute the stop recording also, so all is silent now.

I have done the Same on my G5 Nougat..
Deleted the original Files and renamed the silent.ogg to the specified ones.
Copied every file to the system Folder, but only the boot and shutdown sound is silent now.
When i try to playback the files in the root explorer, it says that it is not able to playback the files. Changing the permissions is not working

Can't turn off shutter sound after ota?

Title says it, I don't have that option to turn it off. Is it just me?
I think the update removed it..
I've also had more freezeups after the update, along with unresponsive touch screen until you lock and unlock. Anyone else have an increase in these issues?

i haven't loaded the update yet. on mine, withouth the latest 2.08 update, i have an option in the camera settings under geotag, etc, which says shutter sound with a check box. this is disappears after the latest OTA to 2.08?
are you able to adjust the volume down with the external volume rocker and see if that prevents the shutter? although its a lame work around, ihope it helps as its better than nothing ..
i personally dislike the shutter sound and its kinda lame/fake and not really needed so i'm glad they have provide the option to shut this off in the past...thanks for the heads up on this!
correct no more option to turn off sounds
with all sounds disabled/muted it still makes noise
the volume rocker is zoom in the camera app (for those that didn't know)
There has been a bill in Congress introduced in 2009 to require cell phone cameras to "click". Its called the Cell Phone Camera Preditory Alert Act. So far, it hasn't had much traction. Maybe HTC knows something we don't?
crappy fix, grab the old camera, put it in place of the new one, change permissions and reboot
Set up with no sound, then copy the new cam app back, fix permissions, reboot and voila.
POOR method. Restore from titanium might also work, haven't tested that.
make a profile with "Tasker".
when camera app is active, all sounds are disabled.
thats what i do with my legend, using CM7...
but on my evo i can disable the shutter sound!?
Also, looks like it removed mirror app that was tied with the camera app.
do u removed mirror app?
i have it already installed, and turned shutter sound off.

shortcut to the "good" method above would be somebody with the shutter sound turned off can post their preference file and ppl can download/copy that into their camera app directory ...

Hey joey, thanks. Any idea why mirror is missing also? This is with a clean install. When I overwrite my nand backup it works but then native screenshots don't work.
Will somebody post up there camera preferences please.

Shutter Sound App Fix!!
Hey all...I've spent the last 2 days looking for anything to get rid of the shutter sound, or at the least, enable us to turn it off WITHOUT having to root my phone and void the warranty. The ONLY fix that I found, was to download this Silent Snap app at this link: m.androidzoom.com/.../silentsnap-camera_gfij.html After I downloaded it, it took care of that annoying shutter sound, and even better, the app is FREE to download!!! I hope this helps!
Silent Snap
Just letting you all know, that you don't have to use the app every time to make the Shutter Silent...
Just open the app once to turn the Shutter off...but please notice it also puts your phone on silent as well...But once you've opened the app, and exited out of it, you can now use your Volume Down Button to put your phone on Silent, and it will also turn the Camera Shutter off!
I recommend not staying within the Silent Snap App, because after taking about 3 or 4 pictures, it brings up ads, so just be sure to use your regular camera when taking pics to resolve this issue.

Disabling camera sound and full battery vibration

Hello
Can anyone please tell me how to disable the camera shutter sound, and the vibration when the battery is full?
bump..........
Not sure you can on a standard ROM but if you pick one of the many custom ROMs out there most already have these set in.
I'd recommend CM7 or Cognition for the more standard look
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124396
If you don't want to install a custom ROM, as long as you're rooted you can disable these sounds by installing ES File Explorer, navigating to the audio files for the Camera shutter and battery notification sound, and renaming them. This prevents the Android OS from calling them.
Instructions in here for the battery notification: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17932560&postcount=11 Use the same instructions for the camera shutter but confirm the right file name.
Hope this helped.
Well thankyou for your suggestions, but what does ROM mean? And what does rooted mean?
I have read that a custom ROM is like a custom operating system. I have come across CM7 before when looking for a way to have lock screen gestures.
I still don't know what rooting is. Is that much safer than custom ROMs?
How does any of this affect my warranty?
This appears to be a novice's rooting guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Would that be suitable for me?

Works perfectly.
rename cam_start, cam_stop for video.
Slightly off topic but i want to share that my UK model sgs2 on stock ki4 rom 2.3.4 has silent camera when the phone is in silent mode
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Sorry, but am having difficulty locating those two files.. cam_start & cam_stop? which folders are they in?
the file location is /system/media/audio/ui deletes all files containing camera, shutter, alnd video recording, in total 6 files
Using a file explorer (such as Root Explorer), Create a file in /data called local.prop and add the line "ro.camera.sound.forced=0". Now restart your phone.
This removes both the shutter and focus sounds when your phone is on silent, but keeps the sound when it's not on silent.
To disable full battery vibration, it requires decompiling SystemUI.apk and editing code.

I have changed this setting, restarted, confirmed it is still there with no typo's and still this makes the auto-focus sound with all volume levels of media, system etc on silent.

Can you please advise specifically which 6 files these are, as I have renamed all of the ones I can see that are relevant yet still have the autofocus sound.
I have previously had a camera.apk provided from this forum which had the autofocus sound disabled and the 15% battery limit that stopped recording removed, however I have recently upgraded to 2.3.5 (stock) and this APK no longer removes this annoying focus sound.
With all the files that I've renamed already I've stopped every sound other than the one. Please help

So there is no option withing the camera to always have the shutter sound off like in the Galaxy S?
The shutter sound is still on when the sound is turned off, looks like some morons @samsung simply forgot to integrate it. I am really annoyed by this "feature"
Can someone hack this please?
(or simply add a button or so)
Just go to /system/media/audio/ui/
And move shutter.ogg someplace else. Or rename it. I just deleted it
I think they didn't include the setting because it is illegal for a digital camera to take silent photos in some countries.

How do you do that because I get 'file system is read-only' ?
Ok never mind i just figured it out myself. I had to do a mount r/w to gain access to file shutter.ogg in root explorer.
I can confirm it, it works fine!

Try this, it worked with me
Open Root Explorer - Navigate to /system/media/audio/ui
Mount R/W
Rename shutter.ogg to shutter.ogg.bak or just delete it.
To undo, just rename it back
I found this in a android forum.

How do you delete the file on a non rooted phone without that app?
For rooted users
How to enable on/off button for Shutter sound:
Edit /system/csc/feature.xml with text editor of choice.
Add following lines:
<!-- Enable/disable the camera shutter sound -->
<CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>true</CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>
Reboot, Voila, now you can enable/disable shutter sound from camera menu. (I'm on BLG8)

I was watching TDKR in Imax the first day it got out then a sexy girl with her snacks comes right in front of my row and I had to take her pic discreetly but suddenly sergeant stupidity arrived and there goes my ever so glorious bright flash and soundful cam sound. She had eye contact with me and smiled and I was like blushing and laughing, something like that will be ingrained into my memory forever. Sorry I just had to share that hahaha....

Can we get rid of the screen capture shutter sounds?

Okay well my phone is rooted. Every time I screen capture someone thinks im taking a picture n its like an awkward moment of silence or awkward stare lol so where is the file located that gets rid of the camera shutter sound for screen capture?

Try putting the phone on vibe or silent. ...works for me. May not be what u wanted but its a fix to the problem.
system/media/audio/ui I'm not sure exactly which file it is because I swapped out all the camera and sturtup/shutdown files with camera_empty.ogg which was in there and just happened to be a silent file but my screenshots are silent. I just haven't figured out the camera focus.

No I tried that one. Here's a list of what I've silenced
Camera sounds:
Auto_focus.ogg
Auto_focus_error.ogg
camera_click.ogg
Camera_click_short.ogg
Camera_empty.ogg
camera_focus.ogg
Camera_Timer.ogg
Cam_Start.ogg
Cam_Stop.ogg
Shutter.ogg
Shutter_multiple.ogg
VideoRecord.ogg
Startup/Shutdown:
PowerOff.ogg
PowerOn.ogg
Sound when you change the volume:
TW_Volume_control.ogg
Did a quick search in the play store and found "Camera Sound off!". It's free but I haven't tried it because it requires root and I haven't bothered to do that yet. Give it a try.
Sorry guys I been busy but thanks for the help. I'll look into everything everyone said
