[Q] Safestrap 5.01 (OF1)? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Has anyone found a way to get safestrap working on OF1 Lollipop 5.01? From what I've read you have to use flashfire, but most of the post were made back in 2014 so I wasn't sure if there was something new I just missed.
Thanks! :good:

People are working on it but no.
Hope for the best?

Damn. rip

That is ridiculous. It is right here dude: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/development/stang5litre-ediition-5-0-t3132555
Use flashfire and OF1 Method but do NOT wipe. I wiped all the time and it did not work until I did that.
Let me know of your results.

That's not really safestrap though. If you bootloop it is still back to stock with Odin. You can make a backup with Flashfire but it is useless if you cannot boot into Android.

I was able to get safestrap to work on lollipop, but I was testing on an mdk device (lollipop rom, and mostly stock lollipop kernel, minor ramdisk modifications)
On stock kernel, rootfs and system are mounted read-only so you get errors like those in the screenshot attached. I didn't care enough to try to use /data or to attempt to mount system rw to test again but imagine someone could figure it out, and indeed safestrap does work on lollipop ramdisk if you can get system mounted rw

Surge1223, thank you so much for all your hard work on GS4 safestrap and bootloader attempts.
Also, I understand that the GS4 is now an old device and hard to justify spending a lot of time getting Safestrap working... thank you for taking the time to answer the question and to let us know that it does not currently work.
While I would have no idea where to even start, can you provide a bit of a "hint" as to what you believe would be required to get it working on 5.0.1? Basically, can you write a sentence or two that someone smarter than me, could use as a starting point if they decide to attempt to update Safestrap for 5.0.1 on a ME7 + bootloader?
Thanks again

Possible to downgrade to MDK using backup?

I accidentally installed a factory image with the ME7 baseband. My phone is now on ME7 and there is apparently nothing I can do to bypass the bootloader (aside from Safestrap) until someone hacks it - if anyone is ever able to. I am also aware that you can't flash an MDK based ROM from the stock recovery. But one thing I did notice is that I have multiple backups on my computer from when I had MDK. (I know they are MDK because of the names of the folders; for example "2013-10-07.11.02.07_JDQ39.I545VRUAMDK".)
My assumption is that restoring these backups would not work, and for the same reason, but since I'm having flashing withdrawal I figured it wouldn't hurt to confirm that this is the case. Also, I can imagine that if this did work someone would have made a generic backup of an MDK-based ROM long ago and posted it publicly, and with this in mind I am not holding particularly high hopes, but it sure would be nice. So, to restate the question, is it possible (and safe) to restore an MDK backup while on ME7? Thanks in advance.

Nope, you can't downgrade. You're stuck with ME7 or later now. Trying to flash those backups will fail and leave you soft-bricked in downloader mode.

Thanks for the reply! I am familiar with Safestrap, and I appreciate the suggestion but I think I'm going to hold of and try to figure out a way (or wait until a method becomes available) to get KitKat on it. I was using KitKat for a few weeks and really enjoyed it.

Cause my HDX have update automatically to FireOs 4.5.2 via wifi, then i have to wait for so long time, for any root version can apply for Fire OS 4.5.2, then use that rom, hopefully you guys can release that soon, thanks Cpasjuste, many thanks for your hardwork :good::good::good:
Dont try this ROM
Hi, I tried this ROM.
I am not on a late version of fire OS so I thought it would work - in actual fact I was on 13.3.2.4 with root access.
I now have a semi bricked kindle which just shows Amazon Kindle in white. As I have only owned the thing for a day this is somewhat gutting.
Any help anyone could offer would be appreciated.
I am getting a factory cable so will try to fix with that - if not a return is in order...
Avoid this mod like the plague...

With Safestrap from Zip.
What I am guessing happened is safestrap was launched from initial bootloader - overflashed bits it shouldnt have now initial bootloader doesnt like what it sees so no booting...
Any suggestions appreciated.
That's strange. I didn't used safestrap since a while so I'm not 100% sure what happened but you probably flashed the ROM on your STOCK slot which probably erased safestrap... (Like said before you shouldn't have used this ROM in first place and you shouldn't flash to stock ROM).
The problem now is to get adb working so you can restore something but I guess it won't be enabled for you since your device do not boot the flashed kernel. I'm not sure if it will be possible to use fastboot for flashing a signed kernel made by @vortox , this is maybe your only solution.

I'm fairly certain that the boot image didn't flash, it's just the system that's not booting. I was reading through the bootloader source today and it *seems* that if the signature is invalid on a flashed partition, then the device will boot into fastboot mode. Had the boot image actually flashed, he would get a picture for about 2 seconds then a reboot. It wouldn't just hang if this was a sfv (signature verification failure, I decided to abbreviate because it's hell to type out).

If I am not wrong:
Download the upload 13.3.1.0 update file from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2782159
Make a back-up of your data using Safestrap and copy it to your pc.
Flash one of the two backups files provided by ggow in http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hdx/development/13-3-2-4-rollback-images-t2991015 depending on device. That would install a stock version with root enabled (if not u would need to do the whole root process)
Do a factory reset of your system
Copy the 13.3.1.0 downloaded before into the root and reboot to get the update installed.
Once the system is in 13.3.1.0 u would be able to install the TRWP and later the cm.
Maybe i am missing something, can anybody confirm?

I can reply to myself. cm-11-20150101-UNOFFICIAL-thor.zip installed and running
I was in 13.3.2.4 with Safestrap, OTA updates disabled, root....
My steps:
1-Back up your data using Safestrap and copy it to your personal computer.
2-Select Stock rom.
3-Flash one of the two backups files provided by ggow in http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hdx/development/13-3-2-4-rollback-images-t2991015 depending on device (Thor in my case). That would install a stock version pointing to 13.3.0.9. In my case root was not found so I needed to use again [TOOL:FROZEN] Faznx's HDX ToolKit v0.95 to disable OTA and put root.
3-Put the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2782159 at root level. Reboot the device, that would help the system to recognize the update, sometimes it takes a while. Put also TRWP and the cyanogenmod, I put them into download folder, but it doesn't matter.
4-Update the system, it would require a reboot.
5-Once in 13.3.1.0, check OTA updates are disabled and root is enabled, using Faznx again.
6-With OTA updates disabled, switch on wifi and install a file manager.
7-Install Rashr, download it from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2334554
8-Install TRWP image using Rashr.
9-Reboot on TRWP. Swip to factory reset and install the CM build.
10-Install CM Gapps for CM11.
I have found an issue with wifi, it required a reboot to get it working. Testing the other features right now.
I would like to use the google now launcher but CM doesn't detect the launcher as launcher. Maybe it is an issue of my device. Can someone try to set the google now launcher as default launcher?
At first, thanks a lot to all involved people to making a great device gets its full potential. Great work.
As it works fine for me so far, I was wondering if it is necessary to keep all the partitions, I got an emulateed ( legacy and 0) as well as two others. I suppose, these are two from the other rom slots I created. Im not sure if they take space at all?
Again, thanks for your effort and cheers.

No you don't need to delete them they are symlink used by the system and do not use space.

if you look around here at all lots and lots of people would like to know exactly that. I would not attempt to do any of the current rollback procedures I have not heard of any verified success only verified brick. Be patient and enjoy root and safestrap. Until they figure that one out.
repeat do not attempt unless you want to change your name to. ReallyDisgruntledUserNow
Additional Question
One more question now, because of the nature of safestrap where it is writing to artificial slots is it possible to flash this forums CM11, uninstall safestrap and just go on this way with CM11 or because it's not an actual boot loader unlock will it just be hardbricked(got this idea after reading another of your posts). I simply worry about the additional battery drain and emmc wear due to constant R/W, obviously emmc has gotten to be very dependable but it wears out and I hate corrupted data(like everyone) and I have no desire to ever return to this fireos if I get CM11 running.

the Nexus ROM is as close as you will get for now. Our current cm11 is not compatible and is built for a different kernel. If you are using a ROM slot it simply would not boot and would go back to safestrap after a hard reset. There have been a few people mistakenly flash it to their stock system and brick their device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hdx/help/hdx-long-term-damage-caused-running-t2998019 post 2
for the normal user you're not going to see any damage IMO from using safestrap..
I consider myself a crack flasher a person with a flashing problem and I have only experienced corrupted files or an ineffective recovery. few times and luckily been able to squirm out of major issues.
Last Question for now

Pardon but how am I even supposed to flash nexus ROM, it says that it is based on the 13.3.2.4 kernel and I am on rolled back 13.3.2.7(Are the kernels the same or "close enough")
Also I assume the safestrap "[13.3.2.3.2 and later] " version is fully compatible with 13.3.2.7 and none of the fuses set by the 13.4.5.2 update mess it up
(sorry I ask so many questions but being informed is how I have avoided all bricks in the past)

I have read of people using the nexus rom when they were stuck on .7 with safestrap personally I no longer need safestrap.
to find out all you have to do is build a rom slot and flash it to it if it boots up set it up and use it, if it doesn't then you will have answered your question that's what is all about...the whole reason safestrap is the way it is. Is so you never touch your stock system involuntarily (SAFE).if you start reading the threads of the modifications you are interested in( the OP is not always updated with compatibility) you will discover many more of other people's experiences and gain a lot more knowledge rather just asking a few people that might stop in to this thread.
personally if I were to attempt to run the Nexus ROM on your device I would do a backup of my stock.build a ROM slot restore the backup to the rom slot , basic factory reset swype, apply Nexus ROM reboot.
but of course before I did anything I would go over and read at least the last 10 to 15 pages because that should cover the latest activity in development same goes with safestrap and discussion of current compatibility
once you have built something on the ROM slot you believe is stable and to your liking. Refer to last paragraph of above linked post. there are several places around here I have posted on additional files that you will want to delete after you uninstall safestrap that will save you gigabytes of storage. http://forum.xda-developers.com/kindle-fire-hdx/help/amazon-rollback-to-13-3-2-7-t2993089 this thread was only a couple above yours.
I can confirm the nexus Rom works fine on 13.3.2.7 firmware I'm stuck there for now, so that's what I'm using.

[ROM] [Base] [LP] [Stock] ROM Base for LP Upgrade + Working Bump!

This is a ROM Base of the latest LP VS985 23C & 23B for all devs who work on Stock LG system. It was a part of JasmineROM, but since it's Unmodified Stock/Rooted ROM, it should be just a ROM base. It makes it easy to upgrade to LP without the OTA hassle & to prepare partitions for future updates. It also keeps Bump-signed images (TWRP recovery & custom kernels) working without affecting any of the current ROMs/Kernels. You might need to just flash modem & kernel (check this post for official firmware) if you'd like to downgrade or switch ROMs (only if they're not already included in that ROM).
I went the image route (the new method) because I had some issues with some firmware. It run perfectly on my device, but failed to boot (or stuck in a bootloop) for some testers. The reason for Data/WiFi & other issues I've experienced during testing was due Symlinks, Permissions, & SELinux context. They should be identical to stock system. So, to avoid any other unforeseen issues, I decided to write stock images (so it works as expected) & updates will automatically follow the correct symlinks/permissions/context. I can make a working updater-script, but this way is much easier & straightforward.

23B Installation Instructions: - Leak
The installation of 23B is quite simple (much less complicated than it sounds): you just need to run installROM.sh script; the other steps are just for preparation/clarification. This method just works in all situations (coming from Stock KK 10B/11C/12B or AOSP LP) we tested to update all relevant partitions. The future updates will be in the form of a regular flashable .ZIP file.
1. Make Nandroid backup of your ROM via TWRP recovery
2. Download & extract JasmineROM_v5.0.zip (use Zarchiver)
3. Make sure you don't have any partition images in internal storage (/sdcard)
4. Copy all files in JasmineROM_v5.0 directory to internal storage (/sdcard)
5. (Re)boot into TWRP recovery
6. Use Terminal Command (in TWRP) OR ADB (from PC/Mac/Linux via adb shell) to run the following 3 commands:
Code:
cp /sdcard/installROM.sh /sbin/
chmod 0755 /sbin/installROM.sh
sh /sbin/installROM.sh
The first two commands shouldn't print anything.
The 1st command copies the script to /sbin & the 2nd sets its permissions.
The 3rd command runs the script only if it's in /sbin (1st command) & has executable permissions (2nd command).
If you've messed up with your partitions layout or filesystem (e.g., formatting f2fs), revert to factory setup (e.g., ext4 filesystem - since stock kernel doesn't support f2fs).
The last command will take some time (~10 minutes). BE PATIENT !.
Some entries will appear to hang, do not interrupt or disconnect cable!
The "No space left on device" warning is NORMAL
You should see command prompt & ROM info/release date at the end !

7. Flash Download Mode Fix + Debuggable Kernel & Reboot
If you run into issues, it's because you've conflicting data from KK.
Do a factory reset in Settings to restore default LP databases!
You may use TitaniumBackup instead of factory reset > Tap batch actions on the top right > Scroll down to "Manipulate data" > Run "Wipe data for user & system apps"

You guys are the best! I know everyone has been looking forward to this day. If you wanted to flash KK back, would it work to just flash the modems/KK ROM over this?

Yep, just flash the KK ROM + proper kernel & modem
Will this method work for 23a stock? I can't get any method to work for kdz, tot, or root. I lost root when I used active launcher to push 23 a.

This method is for those coming from Stock KK 10B/11C/12B or AOSP LP with KK firmware.

You may try this at your own risk. It may work, but not tested.

This is a ROM Base of the latest LP VS985 23B for all devs who work on Stock LG system.
I can make a working installer-script, but this way is much easier & straitforward.
The installation is quite simple (much less complicated than it sounds): you just need to run installROM.sh script; the other steps are just for preparation/clarification. This method just works in all situations (coming from Stock KK 10B/11C/12B or AOSP LP) we tested to update all relevant partitions. The future updates will be in the form of a regular flashable .ZIP file.

Thanks a lot. Worked great. Is anyone having trouble with ADB after updating? My ADB worked fine before. I'm trying to find new drivers to install but can't seem to get it.
Coming from the stock KK running AOSP based LP ROMs right now should I install this to get my modem updated to the LP one? Or can I just flash the LP modem to get that updated?

You can just flash the modem, but I have no idea if the 23B modem works with AOSP/CM 12.

I'm having trouble installing the original jasmine from page 200. I go through all the steps to run the install script, and everything goes fine and it installs correctly. When I boot it up, however, it won't load and it gives me the stock verizon boot animation and it hangs there. I didn't flash the download mode fix, was going to do that after I booted up for the first time
EDIT: I reinstalled the script, again, everything goes fine and it shows the release data at the end. Then, I flash the last zip, goes fine, and I reboot just like in the instructions and it gives me a blue and green light from the notification light and it's hanging at the stock verizon boot animation and it doesn't look like it's going anywhere. Anyone can help??

True that, and let me give you a counter point: How does one extra marginal post in a different forum deteriorate your life in any way possible or imaginable? What is the cost of one more forum post, which by mathematical truth can only lead to one extra page at most?
Is it the opportunity cost of reading my post, and realizing you read the same text somewhere else? Is my ire at my cross post really just anger at re-posts in general? The concept of copying content and under valuing originality? If this is the case, I concede you have a point. I too am an effervescent searcher for good, funny, original and insightful content. My jimmies become quite rustled when I see something I've already seen before.
But here's the irony: just now, you've taken more time to read this post, than the last one!!! Isn't that funny? And it's interesting to think about, for the following reason: What is a post's ultimate value? It's a + b , where a is the value I gain from my post being answered, and b is the value you gain from reading it. Let's think about this post again; this post is literal poop. It is worthless, it's a waste of my time and yours. So really, this post is valueless for everyone involved. Yet, according to the logic of this website's forum, this post is completely fine since it's an original, non-cross post.
Yet my cross posts, which are bad as you suggest, give me immense value! Because my question is answered nearly (but not perfectly) twice as fast, so I get 2a + b return on the post. Do you see how illogical your conception of what is good posts/content, and what is bad?
Eh, but what do I know: I just go to the number 1 school in the US.

we got us a arrogant lill fellow here...haha thinks he's the only smart person in the world all that schooling and can't even correct a minor android problem kinda ironic having that attitude will not get u any help '
update:
have u ever changed ur file system from ext4 to f2fs? mind the same but it was bc i had changed my filesystem to f2fs...i reformatted it to ext4 and it booted no problem...initial boot takes quite a bit...5 mins or so
I never bothered doing Bump to get a custom recovery installed. I simply got root on 10B and then disabled automatic updates. As such, I figure this method won't work for me as it involves steps within TWRP. Would my best bet for getting stock rooted Lollipop be to enact Bump to get a custom recovery, and then follow these steps? The Bump stuff didn't make sense to me so I didn't dare venture down that road, and am hoping I can still avoid it...

It's called trolling son. Back in my day, it was an art. Now I just do it for the thrill.
I have no idea how to change file systems. The whole boot partition thing is what weirded me out, I have no idea about that stuff. I ended up flashing back to my kit kat recovery (which had a date of like january 5, lol. So I had been off stock rooted xposed for almost 4 months) and running the commands. Then instead of hanging at the verizon screen at boot, it went into the android is upgrading thing fine.
So I guess it's a directional thing, where you can go forwards in time but not backwards. Which was where I was coming from on Illusion 6.0.

[ROM][TW5.0]mostly stock N900VVRUEOF1[debloated/deodexed/wifi fixed]

I didn't think this warranted a development thread at this point, Mods may disagree and move it. Since a few people, myself included, need some TouchWiz features and want something closer to a stock rom than Jasmine but debloated, deodexed with the Verizon wifi tether provisioning disabled, I threw this together. I'll try to answer any questions and fix any issues that pop up but I cant make any promises due to work and other projects. If I do move forward with anything I may try to port the stock Verizon Note 4/5, but that's getting ahead of myself.
Now the usual warning about your warranty being voided (as if any Note 3s are under warranty and you didn't void it rooting/flashing recovery) and me not being responsible for you bricking your device because I was stoned when I packaged this.
Download the rom here.
So far the only changes to the stock OF1 are:
Deodexed
Moderatly debloated
Wifi tether provisioning disabled
Start up sound disabled
Rooted*
Busybox added*
*SuperSu and Busybox packages are installed during rom installation.
A list of debloated files can be found here.
Coming soon
Some files were left because they are too integrated into TouchWiz. I don't want people confused by orphaned menu items or get FCs. Some stuff I left because people I know use them. If you want anything back you'll have to get it yourself for now, sorry. I'm open to suggestions on stuff to keep and stuff to remove, but I'll want a good description of their functions before I remove anything. I'm funny about not deleting stuff I don't know what it does.
For those looking for Xposed, I'm using the latest Snapdragon requestConcurrentGC version from here.
Flashing instructions are pretty simple. Boot to TWRP, make a backup, wipe system/data/dalvik/cache, flash the rom and reboot system.
All thanks go to the Yemen rooters and @beaups and @ryanbg for liberating our devices.
thanks i tried it out and its working great! however one of the apps i like is S-Note and you debloated it :/ along with galaxy store. which i cannot find a download source for either, and its needed to reinstall s-note. anyway its a crucial app for the S-pen launcher and s-pen features.
if you could share the apks or upload a full but deodexed superSu/busybox version of this Rom it'd be a real winner.
also im not sure if its just me but i noticed the task manager is a little strange and is missing the ram clear button. ill take a screen shot and upload later

All of the stock apps are in the system.img files in the Stock Odin tar bundles (available from sammobile.com for instance)
The only trick to getting them out of there is that those (system.img) image files are "sparse" ext4 files. The Android development environment has a tool called "simg2img" which allows you to create an uncompressed image file, which can then be mounted as an ext4 filesytem (loopback mount), and you can browse through there and copy out anything you want.
All of this is more convenient to do in a Linux environment (get yourself VirtualBox and install Ubuntu), but there are workarounds using Windows too, and there are even tutorials here on XDA on how to do this both ways. (Use searches for "sparse image" or "simg2img")
An even easier way is to simply pull them out of TWRP backup files of your rooted-stock ROMs; those "system.ext4.win00x" are just tar files. Heck, you could probably even use 7-zip for that.
You do make backups, right?
Ask your devs to do things that are interesting for the dev and difficult for almost any anybody else to do; not the simple stuff like "go get me some freely available files".
as some people like the stock image, you should do a non-debloated version, like beans did for 4.4.2 NC2/4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2787627 Its just a minor thing, and i can add those apps back in.
How would i enable the startup sound that you disabled?
I'm running the deodexed version of NC4 (with an NC2 bootloader) that i linked above, and finally want to upgrade. I'm assuming that safestrap (which is currently installed) isn't compatible, so do have a link for a version of TWRP that is compatible?
also, can i upgrade from NC4 (with an NC2 bootloader) directly? or is there a step in between that i should do first?

How did you bootloader unlock after rooted? Were you able to install custom recovery? If so, do you mind sharing how you did that as well?
Thank you!!

Problems with data
I appreciate all of your hard work. I do have a question though. Every single 5.0 and newer rom I have tried I have problems getting my data to work reliably. I get 4G after reboot but as soon as I send/receive a SMS message it reverts to 3g until the next reboot. This was a clean install and I've also tried reinstalling sim, done factory reset, cleared all data, everything under the sun I can think of. Nobody else seems to have this problem. Any ideas? Other than that this is exactly what I'm looking for.
May I ask somebody create a .tar version to use with odin.
I has no custom recovery .
Tried peazip software to convert .zip to .tar but odin always hangs when i use file
Long time first boot. thoght i made a brick Thanks mate
Quick question. I have kit Kat 4.4.2 with safe strap on mine. How would I be able to upgrade to this?

I am also looking for advice. My Note 3 is in a similar position with NC2 and Baja ROM in the stock slot of safestrap.
