Make a full/Nandroid backup of your current ROM.
Place the kernel zip in internal/external sdcard and reboot to recovery.
Perform factory reset (format system, cache, data) after backup
Install kernel zip and reboot!

Why is the kernel size bigger?
A: This is due to the -O3 optimiztion.
It results in faster but slightly bigger code.
