Hi,
you may try to turn the Microphone noise suppression off in the call settings.
I faced similar issue, it was cutting off silent tones of voice.

Pretty sure you need MM build 575 for that feature. It's not in 570.

@mascox14, Although the settings are somewhat related accessories, you tried to change the microphone sensitivity from there?
Settings / Sound and Notifications/ Accessory settings / Mic sensitivity
Look at what value is pre-made and test after that the microphone in the Settings / About phone / Diagnostics
Change it to High level and test again in service menu for results.
Will was surprised by the difference in the test.
Set mic equalizer to "bright" and see if that helps. I know equalizer is not supposed to be related to the voice sent but it helped for me.

I read the SGS2 has noise cancellation?
Can anybody confirm if this uses the dual microphone approach as used in the Nexus and
some noise cancelling headsets?
If it does, I'm guessing there should be an additional microphone located away from the 'proper' microphone.
Thanks
D
Yes it does have noise cancellation. The second mic looks like it's at the top next to the headphone socket.
can anyone comment on the in-call quality with the noise canellation? the nexus s has very bad call audio in noisy environments. my nexus one call quality is superb with the second mic.
is the SGS2 very good in this regard?
He talks about call quality and it sounds very good.
youtube.com/watch?v=9UhSL7yaSCI
Does it also reduce non-stationary background noise ?
Is this noise cancelling mic used as one of the stereo mic's when recording video do you know?
Does anyone else's noise cancelling mic seem to turn itself off? Every time i make a call, the screen shows noise reduction off even though its enabled,i switch it back on but when i make a call again its off.
Can anyone see if this is the case on there S2 to see if its a fault or a bug. Thanks.

When do you see that message? Is it when the other end answers?
Cant say I have noticed it.
Does it only happen on speaker phone or BT headset?
It happens when the other person answers,a squiggly icon appears on the left. If u press the menu button you can select to turn it off or on.

As I previously said, are you using speaker or a headset?
Or is this just a regular call, ie you hold the phone to the side of your head?
Oh, and where are the settings for noise cancellation?
thanks
its just a regular call mate.

When your on a call press the menu button and the option to turn noise cancellation on/off is there.
I can confirm I get the same
If you've turned it on while on a call then disconnected that call and make another call is it still on or has it turned off again? Mine always switches off..
Yep thats what I get
Do you think thats a fault, its a bit annoying that you have to turn it on every time you make a call..
Unless the icon with the line through the sound wave actually means that its cancelling noise?
Is there any way to make the incall voice louder through headphone as I notice a significant reduction in the volume in call compared to music go example.

Just for clarification, do you mean "louder" and "compared" ?
Either way I'm not sure, but replacing those makes the question make more sense to me
And if the above assumption is correct, I take it you have altered the volumes individually in settings and are still not happy (voice. media etc) ?
You got me right, I was using swype and I didn't review it.
I have checked the sound settings and it is on maximum, still incall quality is very bad.
I used swype to write this post though.

quality or volume?
I have experienced quality issues, but I put it down to network signal.
Hi
I have got exactly the same issue ; no issue to call using the handset (i do not know how to describe it in english) but as soon as I swith to headset, the volume is very low and I can not hear the caller while hearing music, app sounds,... no problem

OK, when in a call, and you push up-volume, does this alter the in-call-headset-volume?
Not tried it, just guessing
No, it says the volume is at maximum

Maybe try with NON-Microphone headset then and see if it's any different. I take it your using stock headphones?
Just a theory but maybe there is a problem with the power flow when it enables the 3rd jack socked band for using the microphone.
Is anyone else having a microphone low volume issue? A lot of people tell me that my voice is hard to hear. It's not a hardware problem, because the microphone it works just fine testing it using the service menu (*#*#7378423#*#* ) or using it with apps. And the problem it's getting worse if I use a custom firmware or kernel.
I suppose there must be a way to adjust the microphone level... There is anyone who knows where I should search? A file or something from the system folder, where a value can be changed?
Thanks.
Hmm, strange.
Can you try with a headset or hands free and use its microphone instead just to see if there's any difference?

Sony Xperia Support
or check if the noise suppression turned on/off in dial settings

I have exactly the same problem with my Xperia Active. Testing the secondary microphone in servece test it sounds better than the primary. Swithing off the noise reduction makes it a bit better, but still lacks of normal volume. I would appreciate any advise to solve it?
Any fix availible for st15i?
Any custom rom i used has the low microphone bug :/
I've now downgraded my FW to .55, and it fixed my mic issues. Problem sorted.
There's a few settings in settings/call settings that let you fiddle with voice quality

I got Noise cancellation and Speaker Voice Improvement Activated. EQ at Normal..
Disabling the Noise cancellation improves alitle bit, but i didn't have these issues until i upgraded to the newer baseband.
I just noticed something. My voice is only bad when talking like normally on the phone having it against the ear. But if i have the phone's mic directed to my mouth, my voice is hearable.
I have a really bad sound echo during call at the receiver side. No matter what I use: messenger or hangout. Is there any way to fix this somehow?
I have stock 6.01 android rom.
There is no problem with my Nexus 5 with the same android version.
Do you have a case on it? If you do, take the case off and try again.

I tried, but the problem still persist. I tried on the same network, the receiver hears himself/herself during the call and my voice quality is poor and low volume.
I had the same problem once on a different device, but that problem solved somehow. Maybe it's just a setting problem.
I think I found a fix for this. I found out this is happening if the speaker volume is quite high, if I reduce it the echo stops and there is no complaint about my voice quality.
Any advice what can cause this? Noise cancellation?

Boomsound is your answer. I noticed this when I use hangouts. When I plug my earphones in, the receiver can't hear the echo anymore. When the speakers are loud, even the microphone can hear the output.
