[APP REQUEST] Car Security Video Recorder Surveillance
Good Morning Everyone!
I have spent a lot of time trying to find an app that meets the following requirements and so far just havnt been able to find anything close that works. Multiple apps are fine. I am mostly concerned with someone breaking into car and stealing stuff. I had origianl post all typed then lost it so im trying to recreate this but think im forgetting a few things.
I am planing to:
- Mount phone in car and conceal it permently or semi-permanently. (Access will be available but limited and difficult.)
- Hardwire for full time power.
- Not have cellular service so scanning and connecting to any open or known (such as the secured wifi at home) for cloud uploads/monitoring/etc... ( sugestions to improve the built in android wifi utility are welcome)
- Will not pay monthly service charges for any service, app, Web site, etc...
Features:
- Everything hands off/auto start apps/recordings upon system start.
- Start video record on any of following:
- motion detected from camera(someone breaks in)
- motion detected of phone/vehicle (someone steals car)
-Any Audio is detected (not expecting to be able to cover entire car or if some hits car exterior, etc.. )
- Delete oldest files if run out of storage before upload/sync completes.
- Cloud upload capabilities (Might be able to perform via other known methods but would like ability to split files based on specified file size if no cloud integration).
- GPS/Location tracking and recording. (Google location services will probably work if not integrated).
-Record Post video when record event is triggered.
-Bonus if user adjustable, say from 1-60 mins.
- Double Bonus if capable of buffering video to save specified length of video prior to triggered event. (Say if someone keeps walking by car trying to case out but motion didnt trigger or if someonw hits car would be nice to see prior few minutes of them driving down the road before impact.)
Nice added bonus:
-Event alarms: email is fine, text even better(using free text service). Pics attached even nicer.
-Remote control of device. Only while connected to local lan is ok.
-Ability to provide Live video/audio/location information if connected to wifi as long as the recordings do not get disturbed. (So i can check if i locked doors, windows are up, etc).

Just getting started with in the world of android. For the last 5 years I have been using WinMo and loved it but don't care for the new Win Phone. So I came this direction.
Just looking to see what peoples must have apps and tools are. I don't really use my phone for games. Mostly web browsing, light social networking (but hate it being an infestation through out my phone), tools for day to day life with networking and Audio/Video presentations and entertainment.
I have read a bunch of other areas on here, just thought I would ask the people using my same device.
Also wondering about the security apps. I have read alot of different opinions on where to use them or not.
But I do like the idea of blocking some apps from getting to things like phone ID contacts and things like that where it makes sense.
I use plume for twitter. Customizable skin, keeps your place pretty well across multiple devices (phone and kindle fire for me).
I use vplayer for playing avi videos. Apparently it doesn't handle 720p videos the best, but I don't tend to download those anyways. I've heard MKV player plays those best.
I use plex media app to stream videos from my pc. With their new myplex, setup is much easier than it used to be.
Sling mobile was working well until my slingplayer died.

I've installed a couple of security apps, always uninstall them. Not doing anything that exciting on my phone and always install apps from secure sources.
Easy Profile Switcher - Setup profiles to increase battery life and automatically change settings (Ringer, WiFi, Bluetooth, ect.) based on Location or time.
Dolphin Browser-fast with lots of useful addons
Angrybirds - Good game to pass time on train to work ect.
ES File Explorer - Like Total Commander on WinMo6.5
Wol Wake on Lan Wan - Sends Magic Packets to wake a computer even over net.
Subsonic Music Streamer - Stream from PC across the web, also video, tweakable.
Zumocast - Not in VZ's Market, Stream Music and some vids from PC, easy setup.
Team Viewer for Remote Control - Client to remote control a PC with TeamViewer server, easy setup.
TITANIUM BACKUP PRO - Backup almost every aspect of your phone, needs root.

Great list I have found a few and sounds like a great few more to try out. I am running Scotts Clean rom1.2 and love it and found a few of those in there.
I'm sticking with Temp Root for the time. I've had some issues with my audio jack and may need replacement.
The Wake on Lan app is simple but it will take propper configuration of your router if you want to use it over the net. I'm using dd-wrt flashed on my router you can also use tomato or other 3rd party firmware to get the setup.
The wake on lan app lets me keep my pc asleep until I need it for streaming and such.
I not ready to put my stuff in the cloud yet, and I'm trying to cut my carbon footprint down. Subsonic can be configured to transcode audio/video to lower bitrates to make streaming from home easier. I have 5Mb upload and I had no problems streaming vids of reasonable quality.
I'm also using WiFi Tether, root required.
Hey guys,
Just bought the Tablet s and have a few things annoying me, and would like some advice on other stuff.
1. Ive read everywhere that the WiFi is an issue with these tablets. After a few hours trolling the forums, i found advice on getting 2 apps to force the WiFi to stay connected (WiFi Fixer and WiFi Lock). i have found i am still having disconnection issues when these two apps ( along with the stock settings) are set to never turn off.
2. Im using DLNA to network the tablet to my pc via WiFi, and am using the PS3 Media Server to access my drives. i have no problems using the PS3 Media Server through my PS3 or through my PSP. the issue is that whenever i wish to watch a movie on the tablet, it says " This device cannot play this content" (beit MKV AVI or MOV). also just viewing pictures it wont load the picture properly, just a blurry low quality version of it. what would be the best way to network the tab to the pc?
3. Using the Media Remote i have found that once i have programmed in the buttons (learning from a device) it drops the learning and i have to re program the buttons (not all, maybe just a few). also is there a way to get the skins of the remote your programming instead of the basic remote it gives you?
4. How can i get the first page to be the main page that shows up after unlocking the tab? as it is business use and i dont want to have them see all the apps i have loaded when i unlock the screen to show them products
Thanks for your help, and yes, ill continue to troll the forums for answers!
Okay. Here are most of your answers:
1. I use Advanced Wifi Lock. Besides that change the wifi sleep policy in advanced (of wifi settings) to Never. Havent had a single problem since!
2. Not very good in this area. I suppose you need a better video player. Try moboplayer from the play store. You would need to download the codecs after installing the app.
Note: Dont expect to play 1080/720p videos across wifi!
3. Havent heard of the stock app forgetting the ir codes. Contact einschnaehkee in this thread ( forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1324479 ) and request him for a beta of his perfect replacement to the stock sony remote app.
4. Use a more advanced launcher. Download ADWLauncher from the play store. Allows you to set the main home screen and choose which apps will appear in the drawer!
Hello,
I work for a corporate TV channel that broadcasts in hotels. We have a 1hr program that changes every month and is looped all day every day on the channel. We have our own equipment inside each hotel. Currently we distribute USB sticks with the new show on every month. It's time consuming and expensive.
We want to start updating the show more regularly - every week, maybe sometimes every day. Short of fully-fledged IPTV, we want a system whereby we can quickly and easily distribute the new version of the show over the internet... in HD. There is another complication. Each client needs a slightly unique set up; as well as the regularly updated show, they also have a unique video about their hotel. The two videos play in a loop.
Yes, we could use Focus Media to do it (I think). But we want to do it cheaper if possible...
An idea I've had:
Use Android boxes (like the Mele A2000) at the client side with Dropbox installed. This will synchronise a folder on the client machine with a centralised office machine. When we update the show in the office, it is automatically updated on the client.
But... if the client is playing a video when it is updated, the video will halt as Dropbox deletes old versions of a file and replaces them with a new one. So... We could use two playlists that alternate each day. Playlist A will play the local hotel video then the current show from Dropbox. Playlist B plays the same but from different files. As long as the playlist A show file is updated when playlist B is playing and vice-versa, the stream won't have to close. I was thinking I could schedule a task whereby the correct playlist starts at the beginning of each day (i.e. Playlist A starts running at midnight on Monday, Wed, Fri, playlist B starts at midnight on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday).
I would use webkey as a remote access system, allowing me to administer each machine individually should issues arise.
I've got as far as playing playlist files - android doesn't seem to like them. I'm playing around with .pls files but not having much luck. Does anyone know how to build a .pls file to play videos on android?
Also... Is this an overly complicated idea? If anyone has opinions/advice I'd appreciate it, and be ruthlessly honest!
Cheers guys,
Jim
I have a US SGS3, not-rooted - AT&T released an OS update yesterday, and now MirrorLink / DriveLink is functional.
Using the Sony XAV-601BT, firmware updated from UK Sony website, Samsung Drivelink APK installed via USB, from the other MirrorLink thread.
When I plug the unit into USB before I would get a message "USB device not recognized", and would then stream Pandora via Bluetooth. Now it auto-launches DriveLink, Navi works, phone works, music works, but only supports Mp3, etc. files at the moment.
Frankly, I was hoping for more app support (eg ability to launch Pandora, Waze, etc.) - right now it only works with built in Google Maps Navi, Phone book, and local files for Music. Something which is annoying, is that I cannot use Bluetooth audio streaming for Pandora at the same time as DriveLink, so the solution is imperfect - I can now use DriveLink navigation, but not Pandora, Or I can exit fully out of drivelink, and listen to Pandora; music or nav, not both - so while it now launches and works, I still cannot use it regularly.
As a bit of an aside, when I first bought my SGS3 I installed an AppRadio2, which was horrible and got exchanged for the XAV-601BT. Now, however, within the last week, there's been progress on fully unlocking control of android using the AppRadio2:
Youtube link "PFiAWrItAdE" (can't post URL)
Seems like the ultimate solution, away from the nanny limitations of DriveLink, although one would imagine, since these limitations are with Samsung's software, a 3rd party app could provide a similar experience with the MirrorLink standard. So perhaps be patient for 6 months, or switch back to AppRadio2, and hope the laggy connection issues have been fixed.
scorp, welcome to XDA!
Many of us feel the same about Samsungs app - pretty poor effort so far Please check out the last few pages of this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837847&page=15 (from about page 12 onwards)
A growing number of members here are trying to build a donation 'bounty' in the hope that we can get a developer interested in playing with the Samsung Mirrorlink app and removing the current restrictions to allow full mirroring of the whole phone (meaning all apps on the headunit).
The more support we get the more chance of making this a reality, if you'd be willing to donate something to see this happen please make a post in that thread (also stating your phone model and ROM/firmware) and I'll add you to the list.
Thanks,
Olywa
If any members have any interest at all in mirrolink/drivelink (mirroring phone display and control on supported car headunits) please do take a look at the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837847&page=15
Hey guys,
I'm not really sure if this is the right place to post this question but as I don't really know where else in the web I could find help on this I'll give it a try
TL;DR:Do you know any (and I really mean any - including writing an app or other hands on approaches) method to have a permanent (tabbed) navigation at the bottom of the screen to switch between apps or websites/PWAs?
The background of this question:
I'm coming down a long road trying to hack together a DIY - privacy focused - smart speaker - mainly to switch lights and play some music. I started off back in 2018/19 and found snips.ai one of the most promising FOSS smart speaker projects for my plans and so I got me a Raspberry Pi 3b+ and a Matrix Voice board as foundation. Then half a year I later, when I found the time to put those together, I had to find out, that Sonos just bought snips.ai and their services were to be shut down...
Since then I had a long pause on this but always followed the development of FOSS voice projects including Mycroft (to expensive HW, to bloated, to tied to their web services IMHO), Sepia (to complicated to setup) as well as attempts on hacking OTS speakers like Alexa, Google Home, Sonos et al or combinations with web controllable wifi speakers like Teufel 3sixty (which is really a gold speaker but as tons of other radios has a frontier chip set with its awkward web interface) or even the awesome Squeezelite-ESP32 project. Lately I stumbled upon Rhasspy and got myself together to give my project a new try and was even kind of successful (got a self hosted voice assistant doing what I want - even if I had to learn and write some python here and there). But I figured out that 1) a smart speaker without a display is not really what I want and 2) I'm not really that kind of maker guy to 3d-print cases, plan and build circuitry and what not - or it's just missing me the time to do and especially experimenting on this
So I ended up with the idea of the software that I need (Rhasspy server side + a satellite app, Home Assistant, Logitech Media Server, Spotify/Tidal and maybe some others) and was then looking for some hackable device to serve as interface to that (display, speakers, microphone, wifi + maybe bluetooth). The Sonoff NSPanel Pro was a candidate but I didn't trust the quality of its speakers and read some reviews that were claiming a weak performance. Then I found the Lenovo ThinkSmart View that has all this and this XDA thread and immediately got me a new one for 60 bucks. Now I have a quality device better then I could ever make it with a blank(though not rooted) android, a Rhasspy Voice Assistant running on a local server ready to receive and send audio streams, a promising app to act as a Rhasspy satellite and some quality speakers to play music on. The last opponent I'm facing now is a nice UI on android that can bring all the bits together.
What I'm looking for now is a free (and ideally OSS) panel/kiosk solution with that I can seamlessly switch between Home Assistant (web UI), Spotify (web UI or their app) and some others like a self hosted Web music player. In my imagination I could switch between them with a permanent tab bar at the screen bottom but am open to other ideas. I'm not an Android developer but I consider myself a stable Java dev open to write an own app for this - I'd just need a starting point (read of Webviews, Custom Tabs, Trusted Web Activities but found them not really a solution to what I need - maybe is there some browser which's contents I can just include in an app?). Also I can write (progressive) web apps and do stuff with them but then AFAIK the only method to embed remote sites would be iframes which likely won't work with at least spotify).
I really do not want to bloat this forum with all that stuff - I'm just writing this in the hope that 1) someone is interested in this and maybe is on the same journey and 2) to give some context on my actual question above
Thank you very much in advance!
Just came across your post. I’ve been looking for something very similar and have also been considering the NsPanel pro. I don’t have as much concern for audio quality as I’m less likely to use it for playing music, just responses or notifications from Rhasspy. I have just ordered a Lenovo device as I’m sure I’ll have fun with it.
To answer your question above, I just found this in the HA companion app that might work for you: https://companion.home-assistant.io/docs/integrations/android-webview/#links It’s not perfect but could be used with a button or voice command to launch the app on the device. I’ve also seen other posts about using a key mapping app for using the volume buttons to do other tasks.
I’d be very keen to see what you’ve done for dashboards and how you’re using the Rhasspy app on your device. Has it been as responsive and accurate as you hoped?
