Flash Stock Recovery - AT&T HTC One (M8)

I have an HTC one M8 AT&T with unloked bootloader, TWRP custom recovery, ROOT access, and S-OFF with CID changed to Developers Edition (BS_US002).
My question is: if I decide to flash a ROM RUU, do I have to flash stock recovery first, or I just have to put my device into fastboot mode and double click RUU.exe. I don't care about OTA updates.
Thanks in adnvance.

If you are already on MM firmware (hboot, radio, etc.) then just run the RUU.
If you are still on LP firmware (and "upgrading" to MM by RUU) , you need to flash MM firmware.zip before the RUU will work. Not sure where you can find firmware.zip for Dev Ed MM RUU.

I going to flash RUU with the same version that I already have "Android 5.0", but instead of AT&T now I going to flash dev edition. What I need to know is if I have to flash stock recovery before, cause now I have custom TWRP.
Does the RUU falsh the recovery to stock automatically?
In case not, does my phone brick if I try?
I want to know if there is any problem to flash RUU to my phone if I have custom Recovey TWRP instead stock recovery.
Thanks in advance

What I need to know is if I have to flash stock recovery before, cause now I have custom TWRP. No need to flash stock recovery. You will however need to change the CID to either SuperCID, or the Dev Edition CID, in order to flash the DE RUU. And s-off is required to change CID.
Does the RUU falsh the recovery to stock automatically? Yes
In case not, does my phone brick if I try? Should be safe to run Dev Ed RUU. Again, provided you change to the proper CID with s-off.

[Q] Best right way to S-Off

Hello,
i have a T-Mobile flyer 3G 32gb with original HC
Build-number 3.55.111.1
baseband 20.4803.30.0822U_3822.11.08.07M2
HBoot 1.11.0011
Radio 3822.11.08.07M2
CID T-MOB101
I want to S-off and flash a custom rom but i don't know the best, the right, way to do this. So it's possible to have S-Off with this device?
I downloaded the T-Mobile RUU but with this RUU i can't downgrade to GB.
The RUU updater say Error 140 and stopped.
So what can i do for S-Off?

Hey man...
I have the EXACT same flyer, everything the same... Did you manage to get it s-off and rooted back to Honeycomb?? I have read all the forums, but I actually can't find a clear solution! Lemme know please or if anybody can put it simple! Thanks!
custom rom for flyer with stock hc
These steps would help :
- unlock boot loader over htcdev
- flash cwm with fastboot
- with cwm you're able to flash any custom rom (zip files)
It worked at least on my htc evo 3D.
Hey,
I have somewhat of the same question - but remain puzzled... I unlocked the Flyer's bootloader yesterday through HTCdev, flashed a Revolutionary recovery (based on CWM) through fastboot and could then install SuperUser through an update.zip in the stock ROM.
I have mode some development on other devices, so I'm familiar with bootloaders and stuff. The forums are mostly talking about S-OFF and I don't really understand how that concerns me, because now that my stock ROM is rooted, I can do whatever I like (remove bloat etc.). I may not understand all implications of S-ON, but I know that my bootloader tells me my Flyer is S-ON.
Now, is there any problem to flash another ROM through CW Recovery? Will, for example, LeeDroid's ROM replace anything connected to 3G (I have the model running on AWS frequencies, which are quite unusual). Could I simply flash LeeDroid's ROM, then get back to my stock backup without any problem?
I guess the question is; since my bootloader is unlocked, does S-ON or OFF concern me in any way? Or is S-OFF only important for those who can't unlock their bootloaders through HTCdev?
Thanks!
(I do promise to write something up for the wiki if ever I understand
S-On means you can't flash a custom ROM through recovery or ROM Manager. You can only flash using fastboot.
Thanks!
So considering that I just tried to downgrade to Gingerbread in Windows and that I got Error 155 (which seems to be undocumented - the message was à la 'something went wrong - I don't know what'), can I restore CW recoveries through fastboot as well?
I wouldn't mind to plug the cable, and S-OFF seems like an unnecessary hassle to me... (I just want OpenVPN and from here I took as much time trying to figure that out than I would need to compile the module myself).
I guess what puzzles me is this (from the LeeDroid thread): "If you have acheived S-Off via HTCDev, you will need to extract the boot.img from the Kernel.zip and flash it via fastboot"
I don't have S-OFF. I have an unlocked bootloader.
Does that mean that if I want to switch to LeeDroid I first have to fastboot flash boot.img and then install the rest through CW recovery?
Similarly, if I want to get back to stock, I fastboot flash the boot.img from my backup and apply the rest through CW recovery?
Thus: S-ON actually only prevents the boot partition to be changed outside from fastboot?
Thanks again!

Hm. I just did full restore with CW recovery.
And I had already applied update.zip's with the recovery.
ADD: SOLVED. What I wrote in the post above was right. I can apply any zip file, but CW can't write boot.img. Solution: fastboot flash boot boot.img.
All the rest works. In order to get back to a backup I guess it's the same way - flash boot.img, apply the restore.
cid: TMOB010 and HBoot 1.11.0011 Please Help Soff this thing.
I have the exact same problem and I assume I need s-off to make this work like a phone. Yes? Has anybody figured this out yet?
bud.

Root for latest update?

Every rom I flash keeps screwing up and camera never opens up. I'm wanting to do the newest update but I haven't seen much about a root method for it. Is there an easier way to do it? I'm S-ON hboot 1.15.
So you want the ota?

yes, I don't care about s-off or cm10 fastboot flashing or anything to do with new hboot problems..
It's best to flash the stock rom and recovery for 1.15 and relock bootloader, then accept the ota and if you want to flash roms again just unlock and flash twrp then you can go back to flashing roms again

Subscribed to this thread because I may be wanting to unroot, update, then re-root soon.
Flash a stick rom, the 1.22 base I believe. Put the phone in fastboot and flash the original recovery image with adb
Camera doesn't work, wifi won't turn on, battery isn't charging. I'm waiting patiently till the note II is available.

Can you dumb it down a lot more? I'm really confused on what to do.
I found this -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766628 is this right?

Can I flash Global RUU while running Viper rez?

Like the question states, I'm out of the country and have no service. Would I be okay flashing the Global RUU with the latest Viper rez running?

Flashing the RUU will wipe your rom and return you back to a stock rom and recovery.
If you're s-on, make a back up first,, relock your bootloader, flash the RUU, unlock your bootloader (you'll need the unlock token you got from htcdev originally), re-install your recovery then restore your rom and reflash your kernel via fastboot to get back to where you are.
If you're s-off, you can just flash the firmware itself, there's a thread in the dev section with firmware downloads.

[Q] How to update hboot with S-ON?

I'm on hboot version 3.16 but I need to go up to 3.19 or the latest one. I don't know how to do this so I'm hoping XDA will help. I currently have an unlocked boot loader and a rooted SkyDragon GPE ROM on 4.4.4. I tried the update to 5.0.1 with the SkyDragon ROM but the WiFi doesn't work. The FAQ for the ROM said this:
"Q: Why isn't wifi working?
A: Need to flash either latest GPE L firmware in this post, or Latest Sense firmware 4.16.xxxx.x. If you are S-ON however you will have to wait until you get latest Official OTA for your device as you cannot flash a different firmware unless you are S-OFF. If you still don't have wifi after firmware flash you need to clean your system/data(Not sdcard)/cache and reflash the rom."

I am currently downloading a stock HTC Sense ROM and am going to go back to stock and try and do an official OTA update and hopefully it will update hboot or I need a way to get S-OFF.
Here is the link with the stock ROM and recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...nt/att-stock-backups-recoveries-otas-t2855966
I know how to flash the stock ROM but I do not know how to flash the stock recovery.img. Please give me directions on how to flash the recovery after I flash the stock ROM. I also will need to know how to get back to where I am now. Will going back to stock lose the unlocked boot loader? Will I lose root?
Although if there is a way to avoid that by getting S-OFF I will need to know how to do that.
My experience on this is small. I am familiar with adb and flashing ROMs but that's where it ends.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
Even if you flash the latest 4.4.4 ATT update you still may have issues,You cant flash non att device firmware unless s-off,and as there is no official lollipop version for ATT.youd need to be s-off to get it all updated, changing cid and mid for gpe device requires this to be fully converted.
Bootloader question,I think if s-on you have to relock bootloader to take the ota(could be wrong, search this answer)
Root question yes youll loose root by going back to stock
Flashing:
Flash the backup of stock ROM via twrp.
Copy stock recovery to adb/fastboot location, connect phone via fastbootusb, open command prompt run fastboot flash recovery (nameofrecovery).img
There are more in depth tutorials here on the forum that answer all your question, suggest reading before jumping in with both feet
Edit: Dottat has uploaded the signed firmware for 3.42.502.1 in General Section so go there, grab it, and flash away (don't forget to give that man a thumb up for his REAL effort)
Yes, you CAN absolutely flash firmware with S-On. If your main-version through getvar is 1.58.502.1 or below, you can run the RUU for 4.4.3, http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/general/htc-one-m8-ruu-m8ul-4-4-3-t2860423
Then run the latest RUU for 4.4.4 to get newer hboot.
Disregard ALL the claims about unable to flash firmware with S-On, those who insist so are simply too lazy to explain that their uploaded firmware packages are modified ones from the originals. If the firmware comes signed by HTC, you can flash it as long as you meet all the pre-requisites (version-main, MODELID, CID) :fingers-crossed:

htc one m7 stock rom possibility

hey, ihave a htc one m7 on 4.2.2 android ice cold project rom and ive been trying to go back to stock htc sense rom but downgrade from stock 5.0.2 and I cant seem to do it, ive tried ota update zip files, stock odexed rom but nothing seems to work, I got the stock rom on but then the touch screen didn't work so had to go back to aicp. I also cant get s-off as ive got hboot 1.61 and cant afford to buy sunshine.
any help would be much appreciated thanks.
You need the RUU then. The reason touch won't work is because the firmware is not matched to the OS. This is a common HTC thing. You have to find the RUU that corresponds to your carrier or region as well as being the same or newer than the firmware you are on now since you are S-On. You must relock your bootloader to install the RUU while being S-On as well.

could you help me find then compatible RUU please? I don't know what one id use. I was hoping to downgrade from lollipop but I don't think ill be able to.
ive went back to the os that didn't work with touch and am going to do and ota update, but how would I get my device to allow ota updates again? do I have to put the recovery back to stock as well as relock bootloader or is there more to it?
You'll need fastboot to make sure you are getting the correct version. If you do not have it, get it from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790 then boot to the bootloader and run this command:
fastboot getvar all
Post results but remove your IMEI and serial number.
You definitely can not downgrade while S-On. You won't need to worry about OTAs as the RUU will do everything for you. If you do want to enable OTAs after you get everything matched up, then yes, you would need to leave the system and the recovery stock.
would there be anyway for me to downgrade then? ive tried flashing other firmware and so far I might have got it, I just need to wait for my phone to charge till I know
You can flash an older rom, but a true downgrade with everything matched is not possible while being S-On.

How could I know without knowing which M7 you are using and what firmware is on it? I've already provided instructions for what was needed for additional info.
