Hi forum,
I am running an SGP612 with root, TWRP 2.8.7 and Xposed for xprivacy. Did set this up long time ago, and forgot how exactly Just remember it took a lot of time for me, not a pro...
What is the easiest way to update To MM without loosing root and TWRP? Pre-rooted Rom? Can I make one myself? I probably have to update TWRP as well?
Would be great if somebody could point me into the right direction just briefly outlining the 2-3 steps I need to take.
Many thanks,
Eppentorf
I followed this guide and was able to build a kernel with TWRP. After that it was just flashing superSU and xposed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/development/root-automatic-repack-stock-kernel-dm-t3301605
As by this thread, yep, a pre-rooted firmware is the way to go. Since you already have all the rest, you'll only need steps 4 and 5, or even download the readymade firmware the OP provides.
Xposed is not mentioned in that thread, but I installed it on my SGP621 and can report it working just fine.
Thanks both, I will try this on the weekend!

Hi, I just updated my firmware and the version it got was the 5.1.1 OL1
I searched around and I realized that this version is quite new so i'm having some trouble finding the right information to be able to root this version.
I'd rather keep stock look/feel if possible and I do not care about knox (it's already tripped for me)
If anyone can help me out or point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

You just have to install twrp custom recovery (twrp-3.0.0-0-klte-klte.img.tar) with Odin, go into twrp and install the latest supersu zip (BETA-SuperSU-v2.67-20160121175247.zip)
it is stuck at the galaxy s5 screen and says "set warranty bit: kernal" after i insalled supersu
what do i need to do? im tripping out... :/
UPDATE:
what fixed me bootup problem was wiping the cache after i installed SuperSU in the custom recovery. it gives you the option to do it before you reboot, and it fixed mine. hope my emotional trauma serves to help future rooters save some time and self-loathing!
Good luck!
OK. I'm on stock 4.0.4 , ucll6 and I wanna directly root and install LP and mm roms. What's best method? All threads seem to be unmaintained and outdated. Thanks.
Did root via arogon method. Now what recovery do I flash? Figuring kernels are flashed with it.
My name says it all. That said I'm pretty sure that you are going to have to increase your space to be able to install MM with the appropriate gapps package. Same holds true for most LP roms on here.
You might can try this thread for a LP rom with a pico gapps package http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal.../cyanogenmod-12-unofficial-i777-call-t3211103 (note: I'm not sure it requires resizing partitions since it does not specify.) Should be able to also find a version of TWRP 2.7.1.0 or newer floating around here. I also add that though lots of these threads on here haven't been posted in in a couple of years, the information you find is still uptodate. GL

If I flash that twrp 2.7, wouldn't I need a certain kernel?
Honestly man I can't say for sure. Sorry.
I'm running a s959g and followed the guide in the help forum laid out by Mr.cook (you'd likely find more/better help in the help forum). I will say that from what I gathered the kernel and recovery are linked in the S2. That said when I flashed my 1st recovery I was on stock 2.3.6 Gingerbread and went straight to the TWRP 2.7 version. From there I flashed Rogersb11's 4.4.4 ROM that had the shift kernel (awesome kernel btw check it out) built in. GL
ETA: I'd almost say that as long as you find a i777 version of the TWRP and installed it you'd be good to go.
First, I had a rooted G3. Never updated it. Now, I have an H830 (T-Moble) variant. I've been rooted since I bought the phone and have never updated because I don't know how to do it without losing root. I'm still on software version H83010d (Android 6.0.1).
From what I've gathered, I just download the .zip in here and install via TWRP and then flash superSU afterwards?
I'm not completely sure what the talk of modifying boot.img or removing recovery-from-boot.p...
My reason for updating is because I want to try the Fulmics ROM or any optimized ROM for that matter. I had one on my G3 and it ran so much better.
But then as a follow up question, is the update process the same from a ROM? Do you just flash an update over the Rom and then re-flash the ROM?
Any links or answers are appreciated so I can finally figure out how to update while retaining root on my devices.
Hello guys.
Can someone guide me to root my V10?
Rooting this phone is pretty messed up with all the guides here. I've rooted all my androids, but this particular phone is confusing me.
My goal is > stock rooted 7.0
What I understand, I can't root 7.0, but I need to root MM 6.0 and then OTA update to 7.0 with TWRP. Is that correct?
Every guide I found had different TWRP ver and SuperSU.
Can someone point to me a simple guide to follow with tools in.
Not just "download and flash guide"
So far I've unlocked my Bootloader.
Thank you.
Never mind, figured the hard way.
And decided to stay with MM, Nougat is more like stripped version of MM.
Searching since yesterday and proceeding ahead is making me confused..
Few Procedures I understood some were confusing, here are my questions.
My Phone details: Check attached hardware details, image format too please.
Unlocked bootloader, yesterday, THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO ALL XDA USERS.
1. Should i proceed with twrp + root 1 click, its way to easy and no confusions here.
.2. Should i proceed with magisk, Since on stock rom and just unlocked bootloader, unsure how to proceed here..
Please guide on best option, after doing this bit work, I have many purchased apps (thanks to XDA TEAM and all contributors) which I shall try on phone..
If satisfied, or wanna try custom ROMs, I will make another question..
Thanks and appreciate the volutary hard work of this great community.
Regards,
Flash Twrp then Flash A Custom rom assuming you've unlocked bootloader to flash a custom rom then gapps then flash magisk
Here are some suggestions
Miui Pro Gsi Oreo
Aex Pie/Oreo
Bootleggers Pie
Los Extended Oreo
Pixel Experience Pie/Oreo

Then magisk think i will follow.
I do not require a custom rom for now, I have bought many apps from XDA which satisfys me for moment.
I am a n00b,
Unsure how to install TWRP first as cannot find right guide,
All TWRP threads (COMES WITH SUPERSU).. can i continue with same ?
