Fix for Unknown Sources after mm upgrade - T-Mobile LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I was doing some research and irritated with the whole not being able to go back to LL to set up security on phone. I'm not too bothered at the fact that I can't set up pin and fingerprint, im more irritated that I can't get my previous apps that I love. I'm currently on MM but if someone who has already upgraded to MM and am currently on LL rom, can test this link then that would be great. It would be quite convenient if it is made possible.

Highest OS build for S7-303u (Tmobile branded Springboard)?

Howdy all!
What is the highest OS build rom that is availble for the Springboard/303? Is it as high as 4.4? Maybe even 5? I have looked but cant find a conclusive post on what is a good and stable build for this tablet. I am running 4.01 huewei image right now.
Thank you!
For the unbranded S7 it was 4.03.
I don't whether custom roms can be flashed, but these range up to 4.4 only. The late roms of Zyr3x, the last dev, who got banned on XDA for selling his roms, had severe issues, there wasn't anything useful since spring 2014. So check the old threads for hints and links, which still work.
Any suggestions for a 4.4 rom? I searched through the forums and didn't find any that seemed to apply.
Anything up to May 2014. I'm not sure, but didn't Kitkat start with 4.3.x? In May/June Zyr3x began releasing CM11s based on a new source, which would self-destruct after a couple of reboots. I never found any evidence that these roms were working longer than a couple of days for anyone,so it was not my fault, that this happened with any new version, and an early CM12 by the same dev. With CM11 even with the smallest possible GAPPS there was only 1 to 3 MB free mem on the tiny (350MB) system partition. This was probably the cause for instability.
But I'm not sure whether you could use any of these roms on the Springboard. The free S7 has no locked bootloader, probably you first have to unlock that on the Springboard. If possible.
I'm using the 4.4.4 released from zy3ex. Some time (not often) reboot and loses something in the data partition, usually some app config.
The bluetooth has problems.
Anyway I'm satisfied.

Flash custom ROM
Video with links to files, and other hopefully useful info. FOR A SOLUTION!
I had a really long post with useful info containing an answer maybe not "the answer" Wanted me to instead post a comment.. Below are the instructions on how to do it according to a Youtube Video I found. While I haven't tried this method, It looks sound to me, they've included all the files needed in a link to MEGA. I'll re-share without the password / decryption key if the poster agrees only.. I do highly suggest Phoenix ROM if you're on a kltevze, it come included with eveyrthing you're looking for and I've used it before In fact, I tried it last night but was unable to get into my phone past the boot password screen I think because the system ui kept crashing. while I have used this version, I may try twelve, since I prefer AOSP or LOS based roms, I want as light as possible maybe even removing google and going with MICRO G which I used fairly successfully for over a month, It isn't perfect, sometimes the location addon apps crash, but there are many, and it may just be that the ones I was using crashed, and not the ones you need yourself.. But MICRO G is worth the piece of mind to me coming from an encrypted phone, No I have nothing to hide really but Alphabet/Google already know enough about me through the use of their "FREE and Very Handy I might add, Services Ahem) By the way, Phoenix can be used with either an unlocked bootloader or safestrap if not.. Just get the right one.. I may end up going with a rooted deodexed TW rom, and add xposed to get the features I love from RR and other LOS based ROMS. With further ado, heres the link to the youtube instructional video I found, I really wish it was written out or could simple installed as a flashable zip which shouldn't be hard to make, but it is what it is for now.. And again seems correct to me if you don't want o go with a custom rom like Phoenix for kltevzw.
Well upon testing the Youtube link didn't play so here it is both Title for searching and another link. Install Galaxy S7 Touchwiz on S5! (Marshmallow) /URL]

I used Heimdal to flash to a more recent factory TW before flashing Phoenix which requires at least PB1. I think. Check their OP under user JKRUSE or near the top of the VZE dev thread.
This is Heimdal as found in synaptic from a buntu based distroand should be the same in any Debian based or any other distro for that matter as I've found it in many repos for different distro's, I think a ppa is available with newer builds, but don't hold me to that.
Heimdall <- commandline version.
Heimdall is a tool for flashing firmware (aka ROMs) onto Samsung Galaxy S
devices over a USB connection. It accomplishes this using the same
protocol as Odin, Samsung's internal Windows-only firmware updater.

And of course there's a GUI too.. heimdall-flash (1.4.1-2) unstable; urgency=medium

If I do either agian soon, I'll report back with results. Again, I know Phoenix worked fine. But I'd imagine a plain TW rooted ROM that you debloat yourself and maybe add Xposed for many features found in Phoenix and in AOSP/LOS based ROM's such as RR/CR-DROID for those who prefer additional tweaking and other enhancements. Again I trouble just last night with the latest V15 of Phoenix on boot and don't know why other than my fully ecnypted device and password on boot feature But either way again if you test before me let me know the result as well. I do need a new battery for mine since it's the one it came with but that's a story for another thread, when I bought my S5 last spring for beans, (with the unlockable BL, I had to have it since my S3 had died. and I couldn't afford a new phone) and I could easily get a day plus when service is good with about 4+ hours SOT. But lately I'm using charging by the end of the day. Haven't decided yet on a stock Sammy battery or a more expesive, Thicker, heavier, but much longer lasting extended battery.
Sorry for such a long winded post. All my posts are this way if you know me. I do apologize and need to be more brief but I'm more of a lurker and searcher for what I need to know and post very seldom especially with this much what I think could be useful to someone.
If it happens to be useful please hit the "Thankss" button, it could help here, and even when looking for a job as I am... Hahahaha.. Getting laid off work blows in my area of the country.
Thanks and Happy New Year to all those who celebrate it during this time of year, if not Happy New Year when it arrives and I wish the best for everyone on the Planet. Stay informed and don't believe everything you read/hear/watch... #NoAgenda #ITM.

Z5compact (stock out of the box) and question how to flashtool (Nougat),bloody newbie

Hi community,
as far as I read nougat has been torn back from sony. Anybody updated before and has a smooth experience? Would like to update too.
Downloading and starting flashtool does not give me the check updates tab, so is anything wrong or has the device to be prepared?
Does this way need root or unlocked bootloader or something else?
I hoped taking a virgin z5c and flashtool would fit to check for updates, find the device and firmwares according to, choose one of and flash?
Isnt it that easy? Any ideas when nougat from sony official will be provided once more?
Thank you
There were a couple of serious bugs in the Nougat release, hence the draw back by Sony.
Maybe in a month or two, we'll see a fully working Nougat ROM for Z5C.

I'd suggest to wait too. Backup TA, Root and use Xposed instead. The only thing that is a bit more handy is split screen mode. I have audio bugs and thermal issues running nougat.

Huawei device "ptrace" implementation issue

Being a no good dirty cheater, I'm a big fan of Game Guardian and I use it with great success on my HTC U11 phone. I recently discovered that it can be used without root, by using a virtualization environment such as Parallel Space or VirtualXposed. As I haven't rooted my M5 (SHT-09), I downloaded Parallel Space and GG and got it all running. However, I've found that I cannot make any edits to game memory space from within GG.
The are a number of posts on the GG forum suggesting that there is a bug (or security feature) in many Huawei device cores / firmware that relates to the implementation of the ptrace system function call. Something in the firmware seems to prevent the GG process from modifying the child process memory space using PTRACE_POKETEXT or PTRACE_POKEDATA.
The suggestion of the developer of GG is to "change the firmware so that there the ptrace system call works normally".
Anyone aware of this "feature" of Huawei device firmwares? Is there / could there be a solution to modify the firmware to "fix" this behaviour?
I saw you posted on my thread. Thanks for that. I wanted to see whether flashing a different kernel like Serenity would help. But i doubt it. Might be worth a try. Would have loved to know that beforehand. :/ Any other ideas? What I am seeing is that it needs a competent developer to recode the Kernel. I would then flash that patch. Other than that it is defined as unfixable. That we'd have to change the device. :/
It's the main reason that I haven't rooted / unlocked the bootloader, as running GG is pretty much all I use root for on other devicxes. And the fact that rooting / boot unlock kills Widevine level 1 support, which is madness on a 2k device like the M5. Wouldn't want Netflix streaming SD content only.
From what I understand, which isn't much, the issue is buried deep down in the kernel. Not sure if a custom kernel would solve the problem or not. Knowing XDA, I'm sure someone will be crazy enough to try it at some point in the future!

Yeah I get that, but some games dont have a cloud feature. Making parallel space useless. Plus I appreciate some other root features. I have a note 8 which should work GG without root, but I'll see how it goes. Oh really, I'm a big time stream fan. I havent tried Netflix with root yet . Should still work tho. I think. Hmm well, problem is all kernels are made for devices like the mate 10 or the P20. Not sure if they will work with the M5, wouldn't want to brick after all the trouble. [Edit, found the nextflix module apk. Can flash that with Magisk. Makes it work again ]

Alright guys, I found this out today (I'm also Kr1msonReaper on GG forums);
Huawei kernel prevents GG from working in Android Oreo HOWEVER-- If you downgrade to Android Nougat, I find that it works perfectly. Hope this helps!
Just a note, when you are, of course, debloating Nougat, make sure to disable Huawei system update app so you don't find yourself in Oreo the next day.

How do you downgrade to nougat? Any reason not to do it? And will I retain root ?
I actually like Nougat more than Oreo as it fixes issues such as the ptrace error and seems to have more battery optimization. It's been a long time since I downgraded to Nougat and since then I got a new phone but here's the tutorial I followed. @mrmazak has helped me out of se sticky situations and his tutorials have never failed me. https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-7x/how-to/guide-honor-7x-flash-oreo-update-t3781649/amp/
I believe you will lose root but you can easily flash magisk again after installing the downgrade package.
Hope this helped!

I am not sure this would work on the Huawei mediapad m5 tablet. As far as I can tell it never had a nougat firmware to rollback too. I looked for sht-w09 and the all the files appear to be for Android 8 and none for 7 nougat. Unless I am missing something??
Other than they locked out ptrace stuff and that it appears unlikely to get Android 9 in the US for my mode l its a pretty good tablet. Maybe I should just sell it and move on to a tab s6 that can be rooted.

Hey! You're right I couldn't seem to find a nougat downgrade. On the bright side, I did find a Pie update for your model. Who knows, maybe ptrace will be fixed in that version?

Downgrade by HiSuite - is it possible or not?

Hey everyone. I'm an owner of Honor 10. I used to have Android Pie on my device already, but for now, I'm working on the Oreo again and temporarely blocked offcial updates.
I have a question - do you also miss downgrade option in HiSuite? When I was operating on... 9.0.0.162 I guess, option was nowhere to be seen. When I received update to 179, I checked Hisuite and downgrade option was brought back. I reverted to Oreo instantly, because I was not happy with the way Pie is working.
At the moment, I'm using 8.1.0.159 with little bit late security patches. But I guess, that's the price for great running OS.
If I'm ever going to try Pie again, I need to be sure, I can easily go back to older system, in case something will be wrong. How is it with you?
Best regards
same here, call recording is a must
For now, I'll just stick to Oreo. If something will change here, please let me know.
Thanks!
