Greetings forum!
My setup:
Verizon Note II running PACMAN ROM 20.1.0
I was wondering if it's possible to change the channel that the Wi-Fi hotspot uses? I've scoured the forums and found that most people say theirs works very consistently and I thought mine was not . . . I can enable the wifi tethering option and my Mac Air connects ok, but it just doesn't browse the internet consistently. I thought I was an unlucky one until I noticed that my Windows laptop and Nexus 7 work just fine!!
I instantly had flashbacks to when I used to have a Clear Wifi Hotspot that only supported channels 1 through 7 and three different Mac Air's would not connect to it, but other devices were fine. The ultimate fix for that situation was to get a different hotspot that supported up to channel 11 and set it static to that. I don't know what it is about my neighborhood, the Mac Air, or what, but it just did not like to work on anything other than channel 11. I was waiting for the Spinal Tap joke from the Clear representative, but never got it.
I recently utilized a tip from Kaleb Randleaxe (thank you kind sir!!) to add ro.agps.allow=false to my bulid.prop and it fixed my GPS not working while the Mobile Network Location option was enabled!! Now I'm one fix away from having a perfect phone again. His suggestion made me wonder if there is a similar line I could add to build.prop to force the Wifi Hotspot to a certain channel? I have already tried changing the ro.wifi.channels to 11 and 14 with no success, but thats the total number of channels, right?
I actually got grandfathered in on unlimited Mobile Hotspot through Verizon, so I pay for the service and wish I could just use the native VZ hotspot app. I actually used to set that to channel 11 for best compatibility with my devices as well. At this point, there is no way I'm going back to a stock ROM after using PAC, and I hear it is built in to the TW framework.
Hi all,
I've been trying for several days to get my tab (samsung note 10.1) to work as a 5ghz hotspot... unsuccesfully. I've tried with android 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3.
Here are my investigations:
- Connect a tab to a 5hGhz 11a AP router -> it works.
- Force 5Ghz band on the tab (through a very basic app using the setfrequency function of wifimanager), and launch the hotspot -> no change, only 2.4 GHz channels used
- Force 5 Ghz band on 2 tabs and setup "wifi direct" between 2 tabs -> tabs don't see eachother.
- Configure auto mode for the freq choice on the tabs & start wifi direct -> sometimes (roughtly 1 time out of 20) the connection used 5 Ghz.
I use wifi analyzer app to check used channel & frequency.
5 Ghz support looks ok for basic wifi. I believe that hotspot capabilitty is not hardware dependant.
Do you know if the is a way to get an android device to work as a 5ghz hospot? or to force wifi-direct to use 5GHz all the time?
This is my first post on xda. Hope this is the right place.
thanks,
refrech

I've also tried many times to do it. I've even tried to manually edit hostapd.conf but no luck - hostapd can't use 5ghz channels for some reason. Any ideas?

Take another channel, e.g. 44, that helps me with my asus memo pad
I'm interested, but I can't find a solution.
For now I connect a Galaxy S4 with a Galaxy Tab S and I see 78mbps on wifi connection details. Also with wi-fi analyzer I don't see any trasmission on 5GHz frequency
here: https motorola-global-portal custhelp com /app/answers/indevice_detail/a_id/90152/p/30,6720,8577 reports that from JB 4.1 is possible to do 5ghz hotspot...
So, don't give up hope
Hello everyone.
At my work they set the wireless with two channels. One is open to everybody with an email verification and allowed users to connect for 2 hours a day and the other is a hidden SSID that the workers can use all the time. In my iphone I have no issues. I add the network manually and it connects. But on my Sony xperia Z1 when I go to wifi and add the hidden SSID it just said not in range while the other network is in range. So far I tried the Hidden SSID enabler app with no luck. Any suggestions? My device has kitkat 4.4.2 and is rooted.
Thanks in advance

Yes, hidden networks are tough to get working with android. My experience with this is that when the hidden network won't connect and then not even recognize it's either that the psk/psk method don't match OR the network is Wireless-N only, which many newer android phones still can't connect to, while the iPhone can. -.- (the *only* thing apple is doing right I guess)

Apple has a flaw too however.
When a network requires you to log into a browser page with a password and username, the Iphone automatically opens the browser page to have you log into the new network.
This opens up drive by attacks to Iphone users connecting to open networks which can then Jailbreak the older firmwares.
I believe this is true, but don't rely on me. I don't even own an Iphone. lol
Another thing I didn't mentioned is that I cannot access routers settings. Also a friend of mine with a galaxy s4 can connect on hidden network. Anyone has the same problem?
Can you specify what router you have? Model #?
Thanks

Thank you for the response...Its a belkin but the company who set up the network can only access to the routers settings. I'm not sure about the model but the thing is that I can connect with other devices and not with my Z1. It can find the non hidden network which works for a couple of hours and when I manually add the hidden network it says not in range. a friend of mine with his samsung galaxy s4 connected earlier and what I noticed was that when he was entering the hidden networks details it had the options cancel and connect. When I was doing the same the options was cancel and save. So he could connect and I just had the hidden network saying just out of range. That's all. I don't know if it works on earlier android versions like that but I cannot connect on the hidden network.

Huh. I looked up your phone and it's compatible with all the 802.11 specifications, Wireless-N included. Personally I've had bad experiences with Belkin routers, I trashed mine cause the usb sharing wouldn't work . I say try creating another hidden network with your own router, just to test whether it's an issue with your phone or with your router.

Do you have any Aplication for hidden ssid waifai showing and connect to the device. Please reply sir please.
I can only set hotspot users to max of 8.
I used gt tools on my Samsung's to get more.
Any way to do that here?
Dear community,
please assist on how to enable the WIFI tethering option in the HOTSPOT section of my redmi NOTE9PRO.
it seems, that the wifi tethering option is not available.
I want to amplify/extent the wifi signal I am getting from my router via my phone throughout my house. I could get a wifi repeater for 20dollars but I am sure I can do this with this device already without any 3 part apps like Sharenet ( which caps your data transmission without paying for it).
In some videos I find the wifi tethering option available in the note 8 for example.
I have the MIUI version 11.0.1. and the android patch version from 2020-4-1 and I have the developer mode enabled.
Thank you very much for the help!
regards,
Genco.

Hi,
I use my Redmi Note 9s(global)/9 Pro(India), code name curtana, with an older Huawei router HG556a running openWRT. I use the hotspot to connect the devices at the LAN ports (PC & Linux box for the TV) to the internet.
1. Go to Settings/Portable hotspot turn on the hotspot and 'click' on "Set up portable hotspot".
2. In that window at the top the SSID is listed and just below the password, which you need for the setup at your router.
3. For a openWRT router: open in a browser the router page, log in, click on Network/WiFi and click on scan.
4. A new page will open listing all available WiFi networks, go to the one with the name of the SSID of step 2. and click on the button "Join Network".
5. In the next screen you have to enter the password from above, name the interface and finish that setup page.
6. In the next page you have to choose in "Interface Configuration/General Setup" the network and check in addition to the wireless interface the LAN.
Then you have the internet in your LAN ?
I don't know how to do it with the stock routerFW. Further I don't know if the Redmi Note 9 Pro (global) [joyeuse] has the same menus as the [curtana].
